Burnout Paradise - General Discussion & Info / TROPHY HUNTERS WELCOME!
PSN updates are Thursdays, so the Party Pack should be up tomorrow, and I guess the Time Savers Pack as well.

The patch should go up in the morning, however.
I think the TSP is Friday.
PSN doesn't have Friday updates for store items. Thursdays and rarely Mondays.
TSP (if you're talking about the patch that adds the restart, tweaks, the Burnout store, etc) is a patch to download, not something that would be in the store.

TSP is a piece of DLC which gives you all the cars, and I believe an Elite License. Not sureon that last one, though.

The PATCH comes out today, and is already out in Europe.

Ok, I could've sworn they said the patch was coming the 6th.
That's the first I heard of the TSP then.

Hmmm not really digging this. I dunno why, I just don't like the lack of direction really I guess. Oh well, was $5, beggers can't be choosers :p

If you look at the last Crash TV podcast, it shows TSP in the Burnout store. The patch is out in Europe, but not here. When it comes out here, I'll make a post.

But it seems like they've slowed the cars down. I don't know if this means they've raised the times for Burning Routes, though, as nothing was ever mentioned.

Ehh... I don't usually watch the podcasts. When I saw "Time Saver's Pack" I thought it was named that for the "Restart".

And here's where I saw the patch was coming the 6th.

Also, it says
We’ve tweaked the handling on the first available cars, like the Hunter Cavalry, to make the game easier and more accessible.
These cars are now slower, harder to crash and less likely to spin out at low speeds. This’ll help any newcomers get into the game, but it also delivers greater variety between the early cars to the faster, more challenging later ones.
The speeds of the rival cars and Burning Route times have been changed to accommodate new car speeds.

I hope they didn't make all the cars slower.

I wish they'd make the Burning Route times a little more lenient. It really seems that, at least near the end game, they want you to be perfect with each Burning Route.

Thanks for the heads up... I'll go download it now. :)

EDIT: I just read what this patch will do... and NOOO! my Hunter Calvary is now going to be slower!
It's the beginners car, I know... but it's my favorite car, and my vehicle of choice online. :(

Well, from what I can see, nothing is slower. If they are, it's not really noticeable. The dots in the Junk Yard are less now, but I'm guessing that's because the upcoming DLC cars are faster.

Trust me when I say you'll be shocked by the new look.

EDIT: They have INCREASED Burning route times. Maybe the cars are slower.

EDIT #2: The Party Pack is also available, despite the in-game store saying it's not. $9.99.

I would have happily paid for the bike pack, not so much for the party pack. How many people are actually going to play in party mode after their first time and after getting those trophies?

I might be wrong on this, but I remember there being an option to change the time of day in the Easy Drive menu before the patch. That isn't there anymore.

I don't remember that, but I've always changed it from the pause menu somewhere.

There's an option to change it through the "Under the Hood" set of items (I think it's pause menu then R1 once, it's with the option to change soundtrack and such). However whenever I am playing there's always a circle with a line through it and I can't get to it.

Is there a custom soundtrack option? I thought there was, but when I try to use the XMB to play music it's not agreeing with me.

You have to go through the easy drive menu to do custom soundtrack. (press right on the d-pad, then all the way down).

Well, I got the patch installed and party pack purchased, but can't play it b/c I'm leaving for work. oh well.

I found out something about the Restart option that really pisses me off. Basically, all conditions, except for time of day and fog duplicate. All cars spawn at the same position. How do I know this? Well, let's just say I ran into the same green 4 times in a row while doing a Burning Route.

Hitting restart, then as soon as the race restarts hold the brakes to end the challenge, then wait a few seconds and manually start the race again should fix that I would imagine.

In short, I'd avoid the party pack unless you have friends you'd like to play with, pass-the-controller style and/or are a complete trophy whore.

I really think this add on should have been more like $5, considering what you get. I don't see any way to pick a particular event; you only choose what *type* of event to do (skill, stunt, speed) and then it just gives you a random one of that type (or you can pick random type). This should increase variety and make it feel kinda fresh, but some fine-grain control over what specific event to play would have been nice too.

I already had money in my "wallet", wanted the trophies (which are ridiculously easy), and figured I'd throw them a bone since they have done such an amazing job supporting the game with patches and free content thus far.

To those of you hunting for trophies: obviously you need a camera for one of them.... it took me a couple tries to unlock it; I think you might have to actually edit each player name AND take a pic. I may be wrong, but it didn't seem to work if I just left 'player 1', etc. and then took a photo.

Also, I apparently need to working on my reading skills, because I played a couple of single-round 8-player games and didn't understand why the 'massive party' trophy didn't unlock. It requires playing an *8-round* 8-player game, which is clearly stated in the trophy description, but I overlooked that. I got all the Party Pack trophies (except massive party) within about 15-20 minutes.

Also, just FYI.... this is one of those 'not-really-a-download' kind of downloads. All the game data is included in the new patch, the $9.99 download is only 100 KB and thus obviously only unlocks the new content. Not that it really matters, but just FYI, you won't have to wait for a big download if you choose to purchase it.

I noticed the Burnout billboards are now a bright neon and really stand out at night. Not sure how much they stand out during the day - but they are super bright at night. Also the smash gates appear to be brighter also.

Yep, that was all part of the patch. Super Jumps are also brighter now.

Vibrant Visuals

Paradise City is filled with a whole world of objects waiting to be discovered. We wanted to make it a little easier to spot them, so we’ve modified the colours of the Billboards (red) and Smashes (yellow) and Super Jumps (blue). They also now pulse for added visibility.

We’ve also overhauled the lighting to bring you more vibrant visuals. We wanted to make it easier to see at night and give everything a more vibrant feel with brighter, more saturated Burnout color.

The neon signs are a nice touch, I don't know if I've been playing too much Midnight Club but driving my Nakamura Ikusa seems really slow. I'll probably get used to it.

I really like all the new colors that they put it. Everything is brighter and the visuals really pop and it's much easier to see things at night. I didn't need a restart button because I finished everything but I'm sure it's appreciated by those who do. I won't be buying this dlc and I hope we don't have to wait a month until legendary cars.

90% sure this was the case before restart was implemented. Going around a certain bend, I'd see the same car every time no matter how many times I failed the event.

They rebalanced the cars, so the earlier ones are going to be slower.

never been much of a fan of the burnout series but this game is awesome. i especially like being able to play my own music in it definelty adds that extra bit to the races. so can you only use certain cars for certain mission types?

The only car restrictions are the Burning Routes (where you have to use a certain car in a "Race against the clock" to unlock a "better" version of the car). Otherwise you can use any kinda car for any event.
If the release of the Party Pack wasn't enough for you, we've got more!

Today, we're proud to announce a brand new pack for 2009.

But, you'll have to head for the pages of the all new Criterion Games Network in Burnout Paradise on PS3 or PC to find out about this one.

See you there!

I guess the in-game browser has some info regarding this pack?

Yeah, it's just screenshots though. It just seems like Marked Man to me, but with sirens. I'm beginning to think that the Legendary or Toy cars and Boost cars will be bundled together. There are only 2 boost cars, and charging $10 for just those 2 would be sort of ridiculous. Either way, we're getting 3 car packs before Big Surf Island, at least if the Trophies are deemed to be the order of their releases. I've also heard the possibility that by the end of the year, Burnout will get a 2nd Platinum Trophy. I doubt it's true, though.

So, people are wondering about the Party Pack. Well, because I'm a weak, feeble minded fool, I bought it. Is it worth $10? Uh...maybe. I played it for an hour, seemed pretty fun. Could've been streamlined a little better. It doesn't tell you which round of a party you are on, which is sort of annoying. Pretty easy Trophies, too. It seems like a Challenge Mode to me more than a Pass the Pad sort of thing. Sure, it can be used for multiple people on the couch, but you can, I believe, do a 1 person party.

If you have at least 2 people who could play it in the same place, probably a good buy, even though it'd be short. But like I said, it's basically a Challenge Mode. And yes, some of them are kind of difficult.
The friends glitch still isn't fixed.
What is the friends glitch?
What is the friends glitch?
Having more than, I think, 97 friends freezes the game.

well i finally caved. I stopped by my local electronics store with a $11 gift card i had and there wasn't any excuse left to not buy Burnout so I picked it up. I even played for a few hours unpatched so I could get a feel for how much changed. I don't think i need to tell most of you that it changed a lot. I'm not 100% on how the flow of the game works yet but I'm getting there and on the whole. I dig it. I guess I'll be reading this thread now that i can get a feel for what's going on.

The one thing I wish that this game had that Midnight Club LA had was that even if you didn't come in first you didn't feel like you wasted your time.

Also the soundtrack is far better in LA.

So... How does the restart thing work? Is it only on "races"? I failed a marked man and a stunt run and didn't see a "Restart" option.
I only have about 6 friends and my game freezes.. I can play with bikes but not Cars. Anyone else have the same problem?
I "had" a similar problem, before the patch, right after I unlocked the "Gamestop" car. Right after choosing my car the game would lock up. I fixed it by choosing the "Gamestop" car.

If you can choose the car, but it locks up after you choose one, I'd say try picking the one you most recently unlocked. If it locks up right after picking "Play with cars", or whatever it says now, I'd try playing with bikes, then going into a junkyard to see if you can choose cars that way (I don't know how it works since the patch, since I haven't done that.)

2nd place is 1st loser in Paradise City. Go fast or go home. Though in my case, it's usually go straight into a wall.

Also the soundtrack is far better in LA.

You can use your own custom music now in Burnout.

The restart works on all events. Just push right on the d-pad and select current event/last event then select restart.

So, I'm trying to figure out the difference between the upcoming Cops and Robbers mode and something like Marked Man. Any ideas?

This has flashing lights! :bouncy: But I was trying to figure it out myself also.

I finally got the platinum trophy last night. Big thansk to Tenchi for that tip he gave me and these two sites helped me find the lat 2 places I needed to find:
http://www.senocular.com/burnout/?load=http://www.windedhero.com/burnoutevents.xml
and
http://www.burnoutteamrocks.com/
They have been posted a few pages back, but they are good to post again.

I was going to go for the elite liense... but I need 109 wins for it so I will pass on that LOL. I will prob go for a few burning routes to get some more cas... but other than that I do nto se myself going for 109 wins. The other trophies... maybe in a bit, but not now.

Nice... My first thought was that it would pop up and be like "Would you like to retry?"
But that way is better.

My advice for getting the Elite License is to use the Inferno Van, or its' Special model. Why? The opponents rubber band to you if they're in front of you, mostly. Also it's very hard for you to crash from cars they take out. Races aren't the hard part. The hard part becomes the Road Rage events.

Oh, and for Stunt Runs, take it very slow. Really easy once you do it that way.

Don't feel bad, I thought the same thing, tried looking for it on the start menu and it wasn't until I clicked right to do some online freeburning that I saw the "restart event" option.

For the PCPD, I don't see how it could be much different than the online freeburn marked man game. Maybe it's more like the offline Marked Man event where the target has access to boost and has to escape to a certain location? It'd also be nice if the PCPD pack gave us some more siren choices, a few more from other European countries, old fashioned hand-cranked, etc. Maybe the PCPD pack adds cops patroling for speeding/wanton destruction in between events in Paradise city?

Fpr some reason I can not find where to ener codes.. I wanted tot enter the code for the CC car lol. I knew where the code entry was before the update but now I am lost. Any help?
Fpr some reason I can not find where to ener codes.. I wanted tot enter the code for the CC car lol. I knew where the code entry was before the update but now I am lost. Any help?
They took out the codes with the update. If you already have the cars, you can keep them but there is nowhere to enter the codes after you've updated with the latest patch. According to one forum, to get those cars, you'd have to delete your game data, don't delete your save files, and reinstall the game without having your ps3 connected to the internet. You can then enter the codes for the cars and then go online for the update patches.

Dang, I'm glad I already entered those codes, I wonder why they took that out?

Also one other thing about the restart, you can use that even if you successfully complete that event. I've found that highly useful when I've completed all the events in the NW corner of the map and all the rest of the events keep sending me from downtown all the way up there. Once you complete the event to the NW corner, restart, hold the brakes to stop the event, then you're in prime position to do another event from the eastern side of the map to the NW corner.
