Burnout Paradise - General Discussion & Info / TROPHY HUNTERS WELCOME!
Is your shock is good or bad one? :whistle2:o
Good. I was expecting the cool calendar/news feed thing to be the first thing you see when the game boots up.

It takes a while to download patches on PS3 games. Despite my fast internet, it took time to download the update for me.

I should be on, just gotta plug in the PS Eye.

Yeah, 10pm EST is fine.

No fair! I couldn't take anyone out no matter how hard I tried in that airfield! :'(

Other than that, fun games y'all! Marked Man is becoming one of my favorite modes! :D

You took me out 5-6 times but they weren't added to your tally. Boo...your PS3 must be broken or something. ;)

Marked Man = awesome.

All the talk of patches and all the posting in here (for some reason I'm still subscribed) is making me want this game again... but I've got too much other stuff to play right now! :whee: Have they said how much they'll be charging for motorcycles and/or planes?

Marked man officially rules!

Gotta work up ma car collection again as it sucks right now. Next time I'll be more of a match.

J-pop should be banned. :applause:

I turned up my music at one point since Burnout was playing Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend

The good news was that at one point we couldn't hear the J-pop anymore, the bad news is, it was because it was drowned out by your humming. Probably a good time to take the headset off.

WOOT!
Finally got my copy from Webrides...
Now I gotta get some practice in, though I doubt I'll be able to make most CAG nights.
I guess VOIP kind of died at the end?
As soon as Brit left the VOIP got kinda wonky.
Have they said how much they'll be charging for motorcycles and/or planes?
Not in anything I've read.

The Criterion dudes have made a point of saying that the motorcycles and planes will be the only updates that aren't free, however.

Are you dense?

Your music sucks and it was too fucking loud.

Anyway, I'm going to probably play online this weekend completing more challenges and such.

That's fine, but there's no reason why the rest of us should have to listen to it.

I might not even plug my headset in since Burnout really "burns out" the battery in my bluetooth headset. ;)

They're adding motorcycles... and planes?

Planes aren't definitely going to be added, the developers are playing around with them and may be adding them. Bikes should be in the next update, but not free.
So guys, are we going to get a regular BP night going again?
I'm game for it. :)

Thursday seems to work for most of us. Thursday is Test Drive day or whatever, so if we ever do races we'll have a limited car selection. I don't think this would bother anyone though.

When they start doing some good weekend events, we might want to get some road rages going.

I dusted out my copy of paradise last night and remembered just how awesome it is. Still about 60 events from the elite license. What do you get for completing the online challenges?
If you complete 2 groups of challenges you get the Carbon Uberschall something. It's pretty nice.
Yeah I love that car.. I use it most of the time :)

We're now ready to unleash the Rai-jin on the rest of the world - it's now finally available to everyone in Paradise City.

It may be the fastest car in Burnout Paradise, but it's not for the faint-hearted. it's a thoroughbred race machine - a true test of your driving skills!

To access this online-only car, join or host any online game and head for the nearest Junkyard. It's located at the far right of your vehicle collection. Don't forget, when you leave the online session, you leave the car.
Have we committed to a permanent schedule for this yet?
The hype seems to have died down a little. I'd really like to get this going again.

Some new info from the psblog.

A load of blah, but in the comments he does say that the Motorbike pack is coming at the end of August and that further information on trophies would be available then too (my guess would be they roll out alongside the pack).

Ok...lets' get something going for tonight!

10pm EST. Anyone who's interested is invited. I'll host.

Headsets are appreciated; j-pop played at full volume is not.

If I haven't played with you in the past send me a friend request before the big event.

Thomas96: could you please update the headline for this thread to reflect tonight's info?

Update on the bikes here.

Last night in NYC, EA showed some upcoming DLC for Burnout Paradise. Planned for early fall, the DLC will add motorcycles, a day/night cycle and weather effects to the open-world racing game.

And, most incredibly, it’ll be free!

In keeping with their “Year of Paradise” initiative, EA and Critierion will be updating Burnout Paradise with new content throughout the year. Most recently, they released another free addition to the game, which added new online challenges and new vehicles (including a beast of an SUV), but that’s nothing compared to what’s coming.

I went hands-on with one of the bikes that’ll be in the “Davis” update, and was pretty impressed with the results. Visually it was definitely on par with the other vehicles in Burnout Paradise, looking solid and powerful. It’s also got an actual rider on the back of it, which is contrary to the driverless cars in the rest of Burnout (as a means of keeping its “E” rating). The rider does force them to tone down the crashes, though, as you won’t see him tumbling off the bike when you run into anything. Generally the rider just disappears and you’ll see the bike skidding across the ground, but it’s much faster than any of the crash cutscenes in the cars.

As a rule, the bikes are about speed, and less about stunts. They’ve got no boost meter but are faster than most of the cars in the game (even when boosting). It makes for some pretty intense races, and you’ll definitely be able to demolish your old Road Rules times...which is why Criterion added specific time trials to bikes.

Handling on the bikes is suprisingly easy to get ahold of. The bike I was given is apparently the fastest in the game, and within less than a minute I was making hairpin turns and flying down side streets without too much difficulty. Leaning into turns is important, and holding forward allows you to tuck your body in for extra speed. You can also lean back and pull off a wheelie. Not terribly useful, except in some of the challenges, but it’s still neat!

They’ve also added time trials for both day and night. At night there are considerably fewer cars on the road, so the game becomes less about dodging and more about just barreling down at full speed. You have complete control of the clock, though, so if you’d rather just focus on night races, you can set it to permanently stay at night for as long as you want.

After the release of the “Davis” update, Burnout Paradise will be adding a brand new island to race on (planned for later in the year). There are also hints of planes being added to Paradise City. No pricing has been announced for those add-ons yet, but we sure wouldn’t mind EA sticking with the “free” model of the motorcycle add-on! Keep checking back, as we should be getting a look at more of the add-ons in the coming weeks.

Also, an article on criteriongames.com about the 360 cagney patch reveals :whistle2:

We hope you enjoy the new gameplay we're introducing with our Cagney update. The next update will be the Burnout Paradise Bikes Pack next month.

Article is dated 8/1/08 so that would mean that Davis has slipped into September, along with trophies.

Hitting right on the D-pad brings up a menu, you navigate it with the d-pad, you can select Road Rules and which you want to turn on. I thought I heard these were on all the time post-patch, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
