You can easily turn a Mayflash from a 3/10 into a 8 or 9 out of 10 if you mod it with good parts. The case is pretty good IMO. Nice size to it.

A friend of mine has a modded Mayflash and it plays very well.
 
Here's what I got today...

Adding two new arcade sticks to my collection... Brings me to a grand total of 65 arcade sticks.

The ones I got today were especially notable because they are almost impossible to find mint in box nowadays. Heck, some people probably haven't even seen or heard of them. Another special thing about these two stick lever is an optical stick which is pretty much identical in construction to the Sanwa Flash arcade stick that is so sought after... An optical stick is much like the Happ Perfect 360 arcade sticks, it uses an optical sensor and has no click when registering inputs.

Who made the first one? I know the 2nd one is a Finkle... Good shit. He makes some nice sticks. I got one from him long ago.
 
I'm so jealous! I dream of having an arcade stick with custom art myself. I'm just not really sure how to do it nor have the courage.
 
Well, here's my recently modded Mayflash. May not be a looker, but definitely more than functional. Definitely my new favorite.

I have finally realized the difference between Sanwa and stock Hori parts, and it feels gooood.
 
What do you guys think about the new Street Fighter pads? I think they're made by Mad Catz? I play SF best on keyboard but I doubt I can do that with the 360 so I need a good pad.

lol, I was gonna send my X-Arcade to a stickmaker to have it modded for the 360... but he got back to me and explained that, after modding an X-arcade once, he had vowed to never do it again! Apparently the interior of the stick is way too cramped to work with.

Now if the X-arcade mod is intimidating even for an experienced stickmaker, I'm not even gonna bother trying that one myself! So I might just go ahead and order a brand new stick. Any recommendations on where I could get a 2-player setup for the 360? I want it to look like I just ripped the top right off of a UMK3 machine (except for the system buttons and a 7-button "Capcom + Run" layout). I saw a "Hot Rod" dual stick but it was only for PC. I'm waiting to hear back from Arcade In A Box again to see if they could do a 2-player model from scratch.

Try hitting up Akuma001 on these boards/SRK. He's a very talented modder but I'm not sure if he's done X-Arcade before.

Dreaded Fist. Got that one quite a while back, right around when SFAC was released. It actually has a db15 connection that plugs into the back of a modified xbox pad. So I could potentially use it with other systems if I could find someone to do the same mod on say a 360 or ps3 pad.

I almost want to have another one made using the same artwork (love the ssf2x art) but with sanwa parts and the japanese button setup.

Finkle is indeed the man.

if you do that mod with db15 i think it would be cool if you went with a project box with a toodles ps3 board/madcatz 360 dual pcb setup. you could even add an extra button to the project box itself to act as a menu button for guide/home instead of adding a new button to the stick itself.

thanks for the referrals markman. haha, people are usually pretty excited to see they can possibly get their sticks modded until i give them a price. :p

Can anyone reccomend me a good stick for 360 under $80? I have Virtua Fighter, SSF2T on XBLA and Guilty Gear 2 for Xbox. I plan to get Soul Calibur 4 when I find a good deal, and Street Fighter 4 when it comes out.

The only stick I've really ever used is the Agetec one for DC, so something comparable to that in terms of quality would be great.
 
There is only one arcade stick for 360 under $80. The DOA4/EX2/SC4 stick. So you're pretty much stuck using that one unless you want to spend more.

Personally, I think it's mediocre.

But my point of view is a bit skewed. I know a lot of people are fine with it/enjoy using it, and have no problems with it.

Literally NO stick options through normal retail channels, due to UMK3's unconfigurable buttons. Any 360 stick must be a custom job!

MM is right on the money. It's not that good. The buttons don't click when you press them, leading to you pressing a button accidentally by resting your finger on them too hard. The stick itself clicks too loudly to the point of becoming a distraction. It's also not easy to use while resting it on your lap. Unless you need a stick now, I'd say wait for Mad Catz' Street Fighter IV stick that MarkMan has been helping them with.

That's what I'm waiting for, but since details are so scarce regarding the Non-premium stick (I don't know if I can justify to myself to spend that much on a stick, they're just not important enough to me) it's got me wondering what kind of parts will go into it. Obviously the premium stick will be amazing, but will his little brother have a fraction of the quality? Will the difference be big between this and the current Hori? I have no real interest in modding sticks, so the modability of the new SF4 stick will be irrelevant to me.

My best guess is that a stick would be at least $100 in supplies to make and god knows how many hours although if I built a bunch I could probably cut down the build time with some fancy jigs...
 
The only reason the info/details are scarce on the SF4 sticks is because, we're controlling the info. But once we let the floodgates open, I will give ANY/all info available.

I do not believe much is to be made from making a stick. I think most of them go for somewhere within the $100-200 range. The buttons and sticks alone cost 50ish something dollars. This doesn't factor shipping and materials for making the case and wiring. I'm sure none of those people selling customs on the SRK forum are doing it as their main source of income. It seems like they're more like side jobs purely for enjoyment.

The 360 Hori stick is fine, I'd say start out small before you delve into making your own stick/investing in customs. It perfectly does what it is built for. The only reason to pay more is basically on quality of the inputs. A big plus for it is that it is light. Though others seem to prefer heavier sticks.

The jump between stock and arcade parts varies between people. To some it may definitely be worth it, to others, they could care less as long as it works.

The joystick doesn't make the player... though an exception would have to be the Mayflash (I was forced to mod it because the stock parts were horrible)
 
Well, I was going to wait for MM's SF stick, but I'm gonna have to break down and pick up the PS3 fighting stick if Street fighter really is dropping next week.
 
I'm thinking of making a website dedicated to arcade sticks, focusing on arcade stick tech database, news, gallery, reviews... etc.

Not just arcade sticks though... converters... controllers, etc.

arcade-stick.com URL is available and I'm thinking of biting onto it. I don't want to handle the webmaster side of things, but I want to handle content. What do you guys think?
 
Hey guys, first time poster in this thread. I don't know why I haven't talked to any of you before. Here is a little pic of my collection:

I've modded the Mass and Street Fighter sticks with competitive push buttons and joysitcks. Those two black sticks are from that Red Octane deal from way back in the day (like 5 years ago) that was 2 crappy but easily moddable sticks for dirt cheap. The original parts were junk but the wood box itself is top shape. I sold my Dreamcast and DOA X360 sticks to ebay, not the smartest things I've done.

I've had these Sanwa parts for 4 years now. I'll make something cool by the next 4 years. But I'll probably buy that new Street Fighter 4 white stick and call it a day.
 
Thanks. Stick modding has come a long way in 5 years. Everything today is small, sleek and sexy. Not like it big and bulky ones I'm use to. ;)

Those TvC sticks look different, which I like. You have to let me know how that compare to Hori's stuff.

Does Dreaded Fist do 360 sticks? I've seen this link to his site, but it doesn't seem to work: http://home.comcast.net/~dreadedfist/ I'm stuck in joystick limbo because I'm trying to decide if I wanna mod (via Akuma001) or go fresh, but I haven't heard back from Arcade In A Box in a while. I'm gettin' antsy here! :D

EDIT: ha, and just as I type this I get an email back from AIAB. Seems they aren't doing 2-player sticks :whistle2:(. So I guess my options now are:

1) X-arcade mod from Akuma001. Cheaper overall but I lose my PS2/Dreamcast/O.G.-xbox adapter functionality (may be worth it since it'll still get a lot more use on the 360)
2) search elsewhere for someone who makes 2-player sticks
3) just go ahead and order 2 individual sticks. Theoretically I could drop the sticks into some sort of wood console later on if I really wanted to simulate the arcade-style 2-player setup, but it would require more work.

I can't stand X-Arcades because if both players are of different body size, it becomes real awkward unless having the stick on a flat table.

I'd say wait. But if you really want it, go for it. Another option is, make a big ass wooden case panel for the sticks, have someone prewire the pcbs for you with QDs. And just plug and play that shit when it comes in.

OR if you want to wait for the SF4 sticks. You can do 'something' with those. But those are Japanese styled.

QD is a quick disconnect you'd either crimp or solder onto a wire. It makes swapping parts easier because you can just plug it into the prongs on the microswitches and take them off as needed rather than soldering and desoldering the wires from the microswitches.

i'm not sure what the pcb looks like in an x arcade but if you can snap some clear pics of it i can see if it can be dual modded so you don't lose the old functionality.

you can go to www.shoryuken.com trading forums to see who can build you a custom 2 player stick or 2 individual sticks as well.

haha, if you want to simulate a true arcade style 2 player setup you should just buy a cab and have it wired to take consoles. :p

but like i said earlier in the emails i'd personally go with 2 sticks or somebody on the 2 player side might do a yoga flame motion and elbow you in the gut. :p

also I say go do the arcade stick site. You know your stuff plus there has yet to be a site dedicated to stick news and happenings so it'd be nice.
