wow! thx for the link MM.

also I say go do the arcade stick site. You know your stuff plus there has yet to be a site dedicated to stick news and happenings so it'd be nice.
Seconded. I read about your stick site on SRK. Sounds like a great idea. :)

Thirded, bounce up on that shit son!

I'll get a stick site up and running before new years (hopefully), I'm going to be so busy with travel it'll have to start slowly.

Still assembling a team of people to work on the site.

Hope all goes smoothly, thanks for the support guys!

MM, when those sticks come out, would you recommend getting the cheap one and modding, or just getting the expensive one?

Still on the fence about going ahead and gettting a SC4 ps3 stick. I don't know if I can wait till next year.
Depends on the size you want, that's the bottom line.

Small, go small, big, go big!
Lol, I don't know what size I want. Never had a stick.

Guess that means I'll just HAVE to get that SC4 stick so I'll know.
Hori Real Arcade PRO 3 SA, Really?!

Remember the old Hori Real Arcade PRO 3 SA that Hori cancelled well over a year ago? Looks like it is BACK, but this time with a new look. Hori is planning on releasing this special Sanwa edition of their Real Arcade PRO line on December 18th in Japan. Available Exclusively HORISTORE for 10,000 Yen ($103.11 USD). Click below for more details on the product.

I cant find it on the hori store site because I cant read japanese but if I can find this someplace that doesnt charge an arm and a leg for shipping Id be all over it.

Very sexy but I'm happy enough with my Pelican converters and PS2 sticks. Plus I need to make sure I can get the fancy SF IV sticks.

The dimensions of the SC4/Fighting Stick 3 are 12.4 x 9.3 x 4.3 inches ; 6.6 pounds. Compared to most of the other sticks out there, it runs very small. I think the only stick that's smaller is the Hori Mini, though I've never seen it in real life. MM, could you verify this?

Anyways, it's a decent stick and I'd say more than good enough as a starter. In addition to the analog left stick and regular buttons, it has L3, R3 and Home buttons. Also has a turbo mode which I think is nice for checking if certain moves link, otherwise, I don't use it. However, the stick is strictly USB, so no go on the PS2. Though you can play PS2 games on the PS3 (I hear BC isn't perfect on any of the PS3 versions).

It feels very light and just sturdy enough to handle my playing style. However, I can definitely see for other players who whale on the controls harder wearing it out over time. Its biggest plus I think is it's cheap price. I believe it can be gotten for around $39 or less.

I'm more of a lap player, though I find myself playing with the FS3 on a table. This is most likely due to how the button rows are angled, and the fact it is 12" wide. I personally think it's a good buy and definitely worth $40.

The Hori mini is VERY small, smallest stick out there for sure. Base is about the size of a DVD case, height a lil over 2 DVD cases.
any suggestions on a good xbox 1 stick or 2? preferably on the cheaper side.

xarcade sticks look sweet but too rich for my blood.
xarcade sucks, so you're in luck!

Original Xbox stick, sadly I would only recommend two sticks. The American styled Nubytech Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Arcade Stick or the Hori Fighting Stick EX.

That's about it.

I might pick up the standard one in edition to the premium, because I've been meaning to get my feet wet in modding for awhile and this seems like a great opportunity.

Anymore details on the pads you can divulge? Don't know if you wanna keep that discussion on SRK or not. If so, my apologies.

I have two FS3(fighting stick 3) for the ps3 and want to mod it to better buttons and a better stick. Can anyone direct me to a site for the button and sticks and which one will work best. I want to get it done before street fighter hd comes out.

I spent $36 yesterday...

one sheet of 24x12 lexan,

a miter box and saw,

two light duty 12'' clamps.

practice cuts begin today
Has anyone heard of this stick?

I'm thinking of buying it for it's guts. I really want to know how easy it is to solder on the PCB. Here is a pic of my wood box so far.

I previously put a picture of my Mayflash mod in this thread. I really like the pcb. The stock parts are utter crap. Basically, it's a giant pad, aside from the stick. The buttons apply pressure onto the pad inputs, they don't complete circuits. Soldering wires to it is slightly difficult, because the places to solder are so close together, but it's definitely doable. Use the thinner solder, or the existing solder.

I decided to keep the turbo, clear, select and start buttons default (also pad buttons), so I didn't try to find where to solder on the PCB, or if there were even places to solder those. Though I'm sure there are. I believe other people replaced those buttons with arcade buttons.

So far after playing with it for 2 weeks or so, I haven't noticed any performance issues, there really isn't any lag. At least when connected to a ps2 or pc. I believe any lag someone experiences with it is when they are playing ps2 games on a ps3 (the BC isn't perfect).

The software that comes with the stick is pretty nifty when connecting it to a PC. The main feature is the ability to assign macros. Though, I havent used these features yet, it's there.

Honestly, I thought the deal on play-asia is horrible solely because of the shipping. If you just want the pcb, maybe you should ask around for a good pad to hack into instead. Though the ps2 and usb capabilities of the Mayflash PCB coupled with the software is nice.

One more note, the button layout goes different for some reason when hooked up to a ps3. Instead of the usual layout, the square, circle, x, and triangle are mapped to the bottom row of buttons. I don't use a ps3 at all, so this doesn't affect my decision, but I'm throwing this out for ya.

Overall, I think this stick is nice for modding, with the existing enclosure. But since you already have a box, I say, steer clear. You can save more money by getting a madcatz controller or Sony 1st party PSone controller and getting a USB adapter if needed.

I actually still have a few "A" type PSone controllers sitting around. I bought five of them years ago when they got clearanced at used game stores. I used them for the solderless technique. It's been a while since I hacked a controller, but I'm sure it's like riding a bike. I've seen the Cthulu in sticks but never read that thread before. Thanks for the info. I'll probably go that rout.

I have two of those boxes, one is glued together already and is in the painting stage. I want one to be a x360 stick. I haven't even dabbled in hacking 360 controllers. I hope it's not that hard.

o yah btw javeryh knows what's up!

TMO is SKILLZ when it comes to stick building, I bet him and javeryh are like in the carpenter's guild together or something...

guild wars.

anyway, yesterday I made sum rough measurements on paper thinking about a new stick... today I cut those measurements:

a4vblv.jpg

the front and back are 13.5'', the side panels are 8'' (9.5'' if you add the .75 thickness of the top n bottom)

and 3'' high.

I dont like it... it's a lot bigger than I thought... I think I'll at least cut it down to 2'' high, but I donno about altering the other dimensions since I dont really have any spare parts to play around and eyeball with

Has there ever been a mod with 3 joysticks, or like a joystick case that can house the two playstation controller analog sticks? It would totally get rid of having to switch between arcade stick and controller for certain games.

I have a few custom arcade sticks with the analog nubs on still... It's a pretty weird mod.

The A series dual shock is a good option too. I have a gang of them still.

And yes TMO is the shit.

I'm in the middle of painting box #1. It's on the third coat. Just some more sanding, a few coats of lacquer and a wet sand to go. I'm going to start to assemble box #2. I order seimitsu parts from lizardlick's new stock before Chad went on vacation. I want this stick to be a X360 controller. My question is whats the best pad (easiest/cheapest) to hack? An official controller, 3rd party, maybe Madcatz's joystick or something else? Please shoot me some ideas and links.

The Madcatz controllers at GS and the Madcatz Atari joystick looking controller are good since they are common ground. You can do a dual PCB method(with a Cthulhu board) later on, if you want a PS3/360 stick.

If you have a Fry's nearby the Mad Catz XBLA sticks are $5.99.

I have a bunch of 360 PCBs all over the place, maybe I should sell prewired/hacked ones !

Yeah I saw the dual mod with the cthulhu, it's genius. I have two boxes though, so I might as well make one PS3 and the other X360. The common ground is a good selling point on the Madcatz. I've been looking on ebay for XBLA stick since I don't have Fry's in my town. I might post in the trading forums to have a CAG help out. Are they hands down better than a normal Madcatz controller? Also can someone post a pic of the PCB mapped out? Thanks guys.

whaaaaat??

I jus paid $30 for a wired xbox controller from amazon...

hey markman hold onto a PCB or 2 for me!!! :cancels amazon order:

please forgive what is most likely a repeat question (it's a long thread!):

Can you use PS2 sticks directly with a PS3? Or do you run them through some sort of converter?
I'm wondering if I should commission a dual-mod setup with 360 and PS2 PCBs, and while I have no immediate intentions of getting a PS3, I'm just wondering if the thing would be future-proofed by default.

Also, it's my understanding that PS2 sticks are the easiest to use with other consoles, since it would have the best selection of readily-available adapters. I assume that a new custom PS2 stick, with a PS2->Dreamcast Adapter, would give me much better results then my current X-Arcade->Dreamcast Adapter setup.

I had a bunch of people over the other night, and the X-arcade was actually a huge hit. For a casual crowd, the stick is amazing. But then it randomly stopped working with their stock PS2 adapter. At that point, not even the casual crowd was impressed :( So yeah this is a very immediate concern for me! Thoughts??

There is no way you can get a PS2 arcade stick to work on PS3 without some sort of converter. Obviously there is no plug for legacy PS2/PS1 controllers.

To be honest. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. X-Arcade sucks. But I won't get into that debate again.

A dual mod PS2/360 stick would be nice. If you get a converter for 'future' use with PS3, that'd be even better. There are some damn good converters out there.

Hey guys, I have a noob question. Sorry for asking but I just spent an hour looking for a mapping of the 5-pin for the JLF sanwa (which I did find) and I'm done spending time looking up simple questions. So simple that no one really answers them in their how-to-guides. With the Sanwa and Seimitsu buttons, does it matter which prong I use for the ground and which I use for the button feed? Stupid question, I'm just use to work with happs parts.

lol, I keep flip-flopping over whether I wanna go for a modded 2-player setup or two brand new single sticks. Every time I think I've made up my mind, something happens to make me reconsider the other option!

I would like to build a stick but idk how lol.

i have this idea for a stick. It's just a regular old arcade stick, but it has a special box stand thing. Like, you put the stick flush into this other box. This other box has a wooden arch superglued (or something) to the bottom of it. The arch is padded on the inside and designed to sit around your legs when you're playing with it in your lap. The stick can be taken out of the box arch thing for when you want to play on a table or something.

I'll get a ghetto paint drawing up later.

Just look at the circuit on the sanwa stick and follow the circuit paths when you get it. You should be able to see where all 5 pins originate from.

dood stay tuned to my CAG blog, I've already made one post about it but I'll be chronicling my whole process of building a new stick.

and while on that topic, I got these today
