CAG Arcade Stick Thread

I've had one since I was about 14 or 15.. later I found out it was illegal to give people under 16 credit so.. maybe it was some kind of fluke. If you're responsible, you can get your parents to co-sign for you.
I'll tell you how you go about getting a CC when you're 16.

You don't, you'll be a much happier person later!
I'm actually pretty responsible with money. I never impulse by anything over like 10 bucks, I never buy anything I can't afford, and I don't buy piddly shit very often.

Uh......Sanwas and such.

Seems like they caught on, since I just got an email about some sort of inability to process the order now. Totally expected though!
I figured as much, I felt pretty guilty clicking the order button!
Well, it'd only be Gamestop or Barnes and Noble losing the money. Markman and Madcatz have no part in price mistakes.

I jus posted these on the cag blog:

how long have I been working on this? 2 months already??

lol I'm awful...

I'll repost, this since a few pages have gone by now... do you think these "Yenox" buttons should work fine as an alternative to Happ Competitions? http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/images/for_sale/pushbuttons/yenox_yellow.jpg

I was worried that the Happ plungers would be too long to fit in the bottom row of my stick (it has a sloping surface so there is less clearance on the lower end of the control panel)... Lizard Lick's description says "Fits standard 1.125' hole, includes Yenox microswitch with .187' terminals." So if a Happ button would have fit in my mod, then these should fit too right?

yeah that's looking good, Jekki!

Does anyone else get annoyed when the ball top gets a little unscrewed during a match and you feel like you need to re-tighten it?

I'm thinking about just throwing some glue in there and screwing it tight, because I'm probably never going to change it out.

Jer, tighten it properly from the bottom, it will ensure you won't have that problem anymore.

:)

Use a flathead to hold the bottom of the stick in place (you can see the groove) and then manually twist the balltop on as tight as you can.
So I just got about 100 new arcade sticks...

those SFIV sticks looks nice and all, and i don't really know that much about sticks and parts, but wouldn't most people want to buy a RAP 3, for either the ps3 or the 360 instead of the SFIV sticks?

this is, of course, from a functionality standpoint rather than aesthetic, because those SFIV sticks look nice.

Got my HRAP3 in today.

First impressions:
Love the size and weight.
It feels really nice, nothing cheap about it.

When I mod it with sanwas in the near future I might plug L1 and L2. Has anyone done that? I might try to dual mod it with 360, because it doesn't look that hard.

How do I remove the film that's on it? It's come up around the top right bolt but I can't get a grip on it.

Yeah, plenty of people plug up the extra holes, lizardlick sells the plugs too if that's where you're going to order your buttons. As for the film, not sure but I'd try sliding a knife under the part that's coming up and pressing the film between the knife and your thumb for a better grip.

Thanks markman!

If flipping allows I might get one of your sf4 sticks too.. That box looks so sexy!

Thanks, I'll try that on the film.

For some reason having the extra two buttons just bugs me for a reason.

I need to get to a lamestop and see if I can get a cheap 360 PCB.

yea ill be getting rid of the extra buttons when i mod the hrap3 i just got. i have no need for 8 buttons.

is there a guide to dual modding these somewhere? is there one for adding custom art as well?

Uh, was I not supposed to remove that film?

It doesn't matter since I'm putting art on, but I'd be kind of pissed if you weren't supposed to take it off and mine came fucked up.

OMG.

I am SO happy.

I just COMPLETED my Hori Real Arcade Pro collection.

I got the almost impossible to find (limited to 400 made) Hori Real Arcade PRO SE.

WORD!

That's a really nice looking stick for something retail. Still, your TE stick is nicer. It's actually my favorite one aesthetics-wise. My favorite part is the black/white contrast.

Dood. Did you just get that one off eBay? I was tempted but I'm happy enough with my current sticks.

Also, did you get one of those Capcom Fighting Jam ones? Game is crappy but I really wanted that stick when it came out.
What's gonna happen when you get one of every kind?
he will join them all together to form a giant joystick robot to save the world from the coming alien invasion.

MarkMan,

Whats the difference between the SE you just got, and the SA 'Special Addition' stick? Is it just the blue start/select buttons and the black trim around the buttons?

MarkMan, we gonna get some info on those Street Fighter IV Tournament Sticks?
My Barnes and Noble order got canceled (lame), and now I'm thinking about just ordering one from Amazon. I'm hoping you can customize the artwork, since I was having RelentlessRolento do some for me on a custom stick I was thinking of doing.

Adding up how much it'd cost me though, I might as well go the safe route and purchase one of these instead.

Also, I'm curious as to whether the 360 stick will work on PC. Plan on getting both the 360 and PC versions of Street Fighter IV :D

Off topic but congrats on your itouch prize.

Thanks to controlcommerce for the inspiration, and all of you for the help, I now play Super Turbo with this!

IMG_0013.jpg

It's not the prettiest stick ever, but it's awesome to use. It needs art on the panel, finishing, and paint yet. Then I'll be satisfied. Oh and a speaker wire adapter to plug through the headset into the PCB.

The dirt and such on the wood will be covered up eventually. Considering it was mostly done in about a week of evenings, and for a first timer, it's not bad, I'd say. I wrote a blog post where you can see the other pics, including my wiring job.

Hey MarkMan,

I hope this isn't disgraceful, but is it possible to change out the ball top to a bat top on the SF4 Tourny Stick?

For some reason I've never been able to get fully comfortable with the ball tops.

Thanks-

I'll take a stab...not that I've seen or touched one of the SFIV Sticks yet, but based on the knowledge that it's a Sanwa stick, you should just be able to unscrew the Ball and pop a Bat right on it. Which you can order from Lizard Lick or one of the other parts vendors.

Thanks-
"Disgraceful" my ass!!!! Nothing wrong with reppin' the bat-top love! Don't feel pressured by any tourney snobs!

And I'm not saying that I think ball-top users are snobs... I'm just saying that the ones who would make bat-top users feel MARGINALIZED are snobs!

Hahah, thanks for the answers guys!

I use Zangief a lot, and for some reason I've never been able to reliably do 360 (esp 720) as well on a ball top. It must be the size of my hands, how I hold the stick or something that doesn't give me a good angle or leverage.

I'll sound like a total noob here, but what are quick disconnects? I was just asked if I want those in my stick, or if I would prefer to have everything soldered. I've heard the term thrown around a million times but I don't really know what they are.

quick disconnects are like plugs

they're really useful if you want to replace things because they're easily removable, you just unplug it, replace buttons, and replace the plug.

as opposed to solder where you have to desolder and resolder wires. i don't know nothing about soldering but since buttons don't need to be replaced fairly often i wouldn't know if it's worth the money

Aha, thanks. I see "Solderless Quick Connect" listed on Lizard Lick... is that different from a "Quick DISconnect" or are the terms interchangeable?
