Hahah, I remember that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 picture... it came out like a year after MvC2 came out.

Some guy doctored that along with an "in-game" picture with Dante, Zero, and some others...

Those are always amusing. I especially like the TTT2 ones.

Man, if MvC3 happens, it would also open the door for a Capcom rerelease of all the old Marvel fighting games. Perhaps I can finally get arcade perfect versions of X-men COTA and Marvel Superheroes at home.
Play-Asia has Arcana Heart marked down to 29.99 for the next 7 days.
Is it worth it for $30?

Are there any 360 joysticks that have a 4x2 button layout? I see it on PS3 sticks and even that Wii stick, but all the 360 sticks I've seen only have a 3x2 layout.

I ask because the 4x2 layout can do a decent job of accomodating the UMK3 controls... something like this:

xx HP BL HK
RN LP xx LK

Aaaaand never mind, I just remembered that this entire issue is moot because you can't configure the controls in UMK3 :( I guess there's no way around that without going for an expensive custom job. They sell nice UMK360 sticks at arcadeinabox.com, but then I'd still need a whole other stick to play Capcom fighters (which is why the 4x2 layout theoretically would be best for me).

Not being able to customize the controls in UMK360 kind of kills the game for me. As much as I love it, having to use a goddamn 360 pad blows.

I would like that better too, but:

Joe Bestbuy walks by SSF2HD in store: "Oh, I remember that game, cool!" *walks away, buys Madden instead along with 2 intercoolers and a faceplate*

Joe Bestbuy sees SSF2HD on XBL: "Oh I remember that game, I gotta play that shit!" *downloads demo or game*

Joe Bestbuy doesn't deserve to play the game, but regardless, I think that even online, he would download something Madden related instead or, if Capcom's lucky, he'll download the demo, but never buy the actual game coz it's $10 for a Nintendo game!
My dear 360 has come back to me... :D
So I'll be playing it all day. Going on to get me some sweet VF5.
So that's why you've never been online. I was wondering if you died or something.

FWIW, I would've gone to your funeral or at least thought about it if that was the case.

I'm honoured.

Also, I tried to get on VF5, then the power went out. It came back on, so I played Madden (cuz I like FOOTBALLZ). Then more Rez. I love rez very much.

My hats off to Atlus for having the balls to bring that game here.

I've waited this long to get Arcana, I'll probably just wait until the U.S release in April.

Be forewarned... The US release of AH will be like the Japanese one... aka TERRIBLE fuckING LOAD TIMES!

I was so annoyed by it I HAD to stick it on my PS2 HDD, I couldn't stand it.

Some people can wait 10-15 seconds, but not me, esp when I can wait 2-3.

Obviously I'm spoiled by fighting games that make those seemingly seamless transitions from VS screen to gameplay.

CAG's finally back, so I can talk about some fighters.

I played some more VF5 online over the weekend. After getting all 1000 gamerpoints, I now have max money for new characters, so I can pimp them out however I want. I played some Street Fighter today. God, that game is HORRID. I got to Adon before I quit. If you can reliably throw a fireball, you can beat almost anybody in that game. I then played some Super Turbo and got demolished by CPU Guile on the easiest difficulty. I suck.
no wavedashing. =(
feels slow. =(
Really? Wow

A friend of mine who plays a lot of Smash was sort of hoping they'd take that out in Brawl.

SF1 is pretty unplayable. Though I give it credit for being one of the first fighting games I ever played as a kid, it stinks now. I remember that cab being gigantic at my local arcade.
New SFIV Images:

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_5862_en.html
hmmm.... basically just ten different shots of an hadoken. At least it's something, though! But I'm still waiting for that SFIV screenshot/footage that really screams "NEW." Everything I've seen so far just seems like Super Turbo with a different coat of paint, and if that's the case then I'd rather just have HD Remix already!

What do you think about the costumes for SFIV? Personally I hope they change them up a bit. Seems like they're deciding to stick with the iconic look of the SFII outfits, but I'd rather have them take a risk and do something different with the designs. They could always just throw in the old costumes as alternates. That's something that Mortal Kombat did right IMO. Other than the radical change of Sub Zero in MK3, they would always keep the basic costume design the same, but add enough new elements to keep them looking fresh and new in a sequel.

I also think it would be great if they'd change up the costumes in SFIV. Keep the originals, and try something new. Best of both worlds. And throw in customization if it's not already planned. I like changing the look of characters, even if it's only colors.
Really? Wow

I dunno. I was pretty good at wavedashing and could do it constantly but it's not like if you had it you were heads and tails above everyone. I wasn't that great at all.

Kinda sucks that I have to unlearn it though. I'm used to dashing / running and using a wavedash to stop and do a non-dashing move. I'm used to wavedashing twice to get out of the way when someone is falling on top of you. I'm used to wavedash-dancing instead of dash-dancing. I'm used to wavedashing into a throw instead of dash throws.

All that, and I was usually one of the only people that knew how to wavedash, and I was usually not close to being the best whenever I played.

But it's still too early to really form an opinion on it. It's not 'till maybe 3 months that the game begins to show its depth.

The only headache would be finding the right people to actually talk about the game, 'cause I'm more of the type to figure out game mechanics which doesn't seem to actually happen with your atypical smash players...

I noticed that there is still short-hopping in Brawl, fortunate for me. What of crouch-canceling and jump-cancelled grabs, kain?

I'm not familiar with wave-dashing myself, or any high-level Smash tactics for that matter. But I was wondering, is wave-dashing generally considered to be an "accidental" game mechanic? "Accidental" as in, a technique that was discovered by the players and probably not put in the game intentionally?

I think that sort of thing happens a lot. And then it's always interesting to see if the unintended game mechanic is incorporated into the sequel or not. The combos in SFII: World Warrior are a good example, because they were pretty much discovered by the players, and then very deliberately incorporated into later versions of the game.

UMK3 is a funny example - there are many mechanics that help to balance the game, but most high-level players suspect that they were completely accidental. A series of happy accidents that just happened to produced the most balanced MK game in the series (the game has a very large top tier, percentage-wise).
I noticed that there is still short-hopping in Brawl, fortunate for me. What of crouch-canceling and jump-cancelled grabs, kain?
I only played 3 matches, as we played it during halftime of the Super Bowl, and I had to leave after =P

Crouch-cancelling... my friend said it was in the game, but then I read that it wasn't. Maybe crouching in the game still lets you move not as far back, but retains normal hit recovery.

I had no idea what a jump-cancelled grab is until you posted it. After looking it up, I realized it was because I always used wavedash-cancelled grabs. =) So I wasn't able to really look it up.

L-cancels may or may not be in the game, I have friends that say it is but it's no longer done with L, and online they say it's out and each move has a set recovery time. I think I managed to chain two Marth Fairs though, although that was it because I wasn't really good at doing that in Melee anyway =P

Same with dash-dancing, I heard it's out... or it's in but you have to do it a lot faster.

I used Marth / Peach / Toon Link.

Marth changed a lot, he still has tippers but connecting with a smash at not-quite-tip range was nowhere near as effective as it was in melee. Up+B comes out a lot faster, not sure if he still has the meteor smash because I never learned it, and since I was utterly confused on the level I was on that was all I learned about him.

Peach's vegetables don't bounce on block, to float you simply press down (instead of down+jump, which completely threw me off), and her dsmash went from broken to awful, but her dash attack is much better and if you can pull off the float combos from melee you're pretty much good to go. A friend said that her butt smash was much better but I never liked that move except to cheat and recover from falls when playing in a crappy stage like Fourside.

Toon Link seems a ton crappier than Young Link. It's like his hitbox got a lot bigger but his range got a lot smaller. He lost fire arrows and gets the regular arrows back, which sucks because that was one of the only reasons to use him over regular Link. The boomerang seemed mega slow, up+b had no range. On the upside, his FSmash comes out a lot faster. The Dair is different and makes him drop down mega fast when you use it but with the lack of L-cancels I don't know how useful it'll be, but it seems like the recovery is bit faster than SSB and SSBM.

Wish I could play more and figure it out though. It comes out in March? Man...

"Accidental" as in, a technique that was discovered by the players and probably not put in the game intentionally?
Yep. I think a lot of techniques in most competitive games are like that, and there were a LOT in Melee. I wouldn't really call it a glitch or a bug or an exploit though. You can say it wasn't in the original design "intentions" but I'd just think it was something that was overlooked and never really considered. =P

JC grabs were probably my favorite technique in Melee. It just helped so many characters.

That's a shame to hear about Toon Link, however. I had some hopes for him (not high hopes, but some hopes), and it'd be saddening to hear that he's a shell of what Y. Link used to be.

Hey, do you guys have any recommendations for arcade sticks? Or rather, could you tell me if the Hori Xbox 360 Fighting Stick EX2 (UHX3-07) is any good? I can get that for around $45-$55 shipped. Please let me know if there are any other deals too.

I'm not the hugest fighting game fan but SCIV, SFIV, and SFHD all look great.

Unless you are a joystick otaku it should suit you fine.

Ooh. Interesting stuff there... particularly the release dates. the SNK arcade compilation and the Real Bout compilation are definitely worth picking up, though personally, I'm gonna wait on the Real Bout one and see if the US release is in progressive scan or not... since I can just stick with the Jap version if it isn't.

Pretty much the biggest question on my mind for Brawl right now involves Kirby. Does he get all his jumps back when he inhales someone and leaps off the edge, like in Melee?

Hm, SNK Arcade Comp is in my gold box...decisions, decisions.

Envious of those of you who are getting to try SSBB....
Also, you can turn off Final Smash's in Brawl right? I'm fairly certain that I'll turn them off after checking them out a few times each.
Yeah, they're items.

It'd be nice if they were activated more like a conventional super so that it's not so random...
