good stuff. almost exactly like the PC version and no changes that are making me want to drop $60, but they made some very nice graphical updates...the two new characters are awesome as well.

my only complaint is that it's slower.

It's slower? Crap. When I played Re-ACT, I didn't like it too much, but then I tried Final Tuned and I was hooked.

How fast is this game compared to Final Tuned?

on second thought, I think my perception was thrown off by the bigger screen. I did a side by side comparison, it's the same speed, but the resolution on my laptop makes it look like it's running smoother/faster.

Well... my copy ships tomorrow.

Should be getting my new TV in a couple days it should be interesting to see how MB looks on that.
wow... basiclly no fighting games for me for a bit... Dead Rising is too damn good for me to do anything else.
Same here man. Although I'll check out Melty Blood in a few days, when I get the chance. Never played a single game in the series.

I too am in Dead Rising land. X_X

How are you guys enjoying it so far?

And to keep it fighting game related. I really hope there are some Street Fighter things in here lol... I loved ALL the MM stuff so far.

Dammit, everyone's playing Dead Rising. I didn't buy it yet, but that'll change today. I got the Fry's ad and it's only $50 there so I'll PM at BB or CC.

how about some street fighter skills books? :D like...throw Hadokens with a book in your possession. That would rule, but something tells me it ain't in there.

Dead Rising is pretty good so far. I even like the way it's laid out with the save points. you actually have to survive. it isn't one of those take 3 steps *AUTO-SAVE* games

on a side note, lets pour one out for my saturn ps2 pad :( sending it out today as part of my game collection genocide to get money for the semester. got the right price for it though!

For those of us that didn't import it, KOF 2K6 comes out by the end of this month. But besides going on SFAC on X-Box Live a couple times a week, I haven't played any fighting games. I'm kinda in my RPG mode. Plus I'm considering the Naruto Ultimate Ninja game for PS2. I haven't played the series at all, and after looking at some videos it looks better that the GC version. But maybe I'll wait for the second one. I hear it's a big step up.

I really want Tekken DR, but I'm not a portible guy. I have a DS and I don't play it alot. I'm afriad I'd drop around $250 bucks and have it just sit their.

How much did that crazy sonuvabitch give you again? Like $50?

Anyway, I'm getting the new TV tomorrow... it stood up to my Melty Blood and GG match video torture test so I'm definitely gonna buy it... should be spending a lot more time playing DOA 4 then just for the HD Kasumi factor.

yeah. that's about how much they go for, though. probably even more after shipping on ebay. fighter fans pay a lot for quality controllers :)

congrats on the new tv...DoA4 looks great in 1080i and widescreen. but still, it's gonna get stolen at your ghetto ass college :p

Hehe, yeah. My school's like the mofckin' Bronx.

On a side note, I got Dead Rising today so I won't feel so left out of all the conversations now.

Is Melty supposed to look good in HD? It looks all pixilated on mine.

Not necessarily. I used the match vids in order to see how well the TV could perform when there's a ton of fast motion on screen. Since Melty Blood is also pretty dark, it's good for seeing if the TV can handle blacks well and if there's any loss in detail in dark scenes.

You won't regret it. it gets better each time you play it. Don't listen to the people complaining about the save system. :)

on the non-fighting gaming front, Dead Rising is awesome. I'm getting frustrated with one of the bosses, but I'm going to give it another go after work tonight.

on the fighting game front, I just won Naruto: Narutimett Hero 2 for PS2 for $16. I guess this means I need to finish unlocking Nine Tails Naruto in the first game :)

I still need to get Melty Blood, KOF XI and Guilty Gear XX Slash. After those I might stop on imports for a teeny bit.

When buying TVs, I highly suggest bringing your PS2 with you and asking to plug in and try it out before you buy it. Lots of the newer HD TVs have lag(Esp. LCD/Plasma/DLP) due to the upscan lag.

I'd be mad as heck if I had to play fighting games on a laggy TV. :( !

videos don't display lag, really.

i guess if you don't want to bring your ps2, you can always do your research on the internet, since lag on tvs is being profiled by a lot of gamers.

i played beatmania on a laggy tv. it was kinda funny and infuriating at the same time =P getting an "F" and passing the song is such a weird feeling.

Oops, I was thinking of something else when you said input lag. Yeah, I suppose I would need to check that out since input lag would absolutely kill things for me, but I doubt that the store would be alright with that since it would look sorta like I was stealing a PS2 when I'm leaving the store. Well, I'll pick the TV up tomorrow and if it turns out that it doesn't suit my needs, then I'll take it back... BB apparently doesn't charge a restocking fee on TVs.

For anyone wondering, the TV is the 26" Sony XBR (might go with the regular Bravia instead, but it's down to those two for me.)

I don't think they make a big deal out of it, it would be pretty stupid of them to.

Most stores will be glad to let you do that as long as you go during a slow time. Go around 1pm to 3pm and you should find a couple guys that would be glad to throw down I mean show you what a fighting game will look like on big beautiful HDTV. Costco is really good about things like that. I even had a guy take a TV off the regular feed and put it by itself so I could see what it was really capable of.

I still think widescreen is the ideal choice for fighters, since it adds alot more playing feild to fight on... it sure works great for Tekken DR really.

almost completed dead rising (waiting for chopper).

I'm going to try and finish my DOA4 stuff since I stopped midway in unlocking everything this weekend, but that may not happen if my Rumble Roses XX comes in this weekend (scored it on the cheap end so I couldn't pass it up even if it's horrible).

Chacrana, I can't play you anymore in DoA. I suck fighting anyone but Kasumi now. I lost to a D- with me as Kokoro! (of course, my button config on my stick was fucked for some reason.) I'm ahead by .3%, so it's a good time to stop. :p
almost completed dead rising (waiting for chopper).
You mean...

Almost completed the FIRST run-through of Dead Rising. ;)

Unless you've already unlocked OVERTIME modes for the ture ending.

Dead Rising was fun times. Back to Tekken :) !

Oh and, the XBR should be fine. I have a 42 inch XBR CRT and it has no problems at all. Games look beautiful on it, esp ones with progressive scan(Tekken 4, Tekken 5). :) And the 360 looks awesome on it too.

Good to know. If the XBR's having problems, then I have no idea what would work for me. Thankfully, I can buy the 26" with no regrets since new models and 1080p aren't even a factor right now.

Edit: I talked to Stuka who also has an XBR (40" LCD) and he hasn't had any problems either... I think I should be safe with the input lag thing since this is clearly not a Wal-Mart generic brand TV.

Oh, and Possum. I would play against you in DOA 4, but my internet's down again. Yeah. It was down a week ago... but now it's down again. The asshole's coming to fix it today though. We've still got SFII to settle the score in.

(Raises hand)

Yeah, I've been to Tokyo once. It's kinda amazing. The arcades are far nicer than what we have anywhere in the US... everything from the atmosphere to the screens (LCD screens in cabinets FTW.) I didn't spend too much time there, but I noticed that they like their Guilty Gear and Virtua Fighter A LOT and they have some bizarre games that made no sense to me.

^^^^ lol.

A few months ago a few friends came over and we just played like every fighting game I had. Rival Schools, Garou, Last Blade... Even Battle Arena Toshinden, Tobal No. 1, and some other games hahaha.

Nostalgia is the shit.
^^ It's not the same because everything will look fine, but the input lag is something you need to experience.
I actually notice lag when playing act candeza and slash in hd. Will putting in regular component cables fix that? if not i'm screwed:bomb:

yep, just an hour ago I unlocked the true ending in overtime mode... now i've got infinite mode to screw around in :)

Use component cables and enable the progressive scan mode for Slash. I'm not sure if there is pro scan for Melty Blood though...

Agreed. I think I am going to go through my fighter collection and play some stuff.

Got back with my TV... fucking awesome. Prior to this, I'd seen a game running in 480p maybe once (though it was on a shitty TV) and I thought it looked good... but my God, this TV made me shit myself. It's just so damn pretty. My eyes are pretty sensitive and I find problems with a LOT of LCDs in terms of ghosting and black levels but after playing a lotta KOF XI and Guilty Gear on it... no problems. I couldn't be happier and I have a feeling I won't get much sleep today.

So my only question is this: How do I enable progressive scan for PS2 games? I know you have to hold down some buttons at startup or some shit.... also, should I enable the widescreen option on the PS2's menu or will it stretch out the picture unnaturally?

God damn, I'm happy.

For certain games. Like KOF XI that have widescreen modes. It will proportion correctly. But from ppl that play the game competitively(a few friends of mine), they complained that playing it in WS mode messes up the timing. There should be an option on your TV that will let you play the game in 4:3, you'll just have black bars on the sides. But it'll still look good.

Oh yea, Tekken 5's widescreen mode is super budget mode and kinda sucks when played on a WS TV. I wish they did the true widescreen like on the arcade version of the game.

Most fighting games that have progressive scan can have it accessed from the menus, there are a few though that you have to hold down some buttons in order to enable it at startup. Not sure which games need the special sequence other than Tekken 4.

Okay, thanks for the info. First thing I did with the TV is I turned off the widescreen mode and chose normal mode (so that it only displays something in widescreen if it was designed to be 16:9.)

Yeah, VF is always big their. The first time I went VF4 just came out and it was everywhere. Most arcades had like 10-15 machines. The second time I went VF4 Final Tuned just came out, and again it was huge.

But everyone is a good player, I was the crappiest player there. And I went to 4 or 5 big arcades around the city. I mainly played SNK fighters, and I was getting better near the end of my trips, but I's lose about 90% of the time.

They have alot a of bizarre games. I was with my wife and I saw an arcade and said. "Let me take a quick look." We walked in and it was filled with a bunch of sex games. Kinda creepy. I don't know what the games were about, we left about 3 seconds later.

Haha, yeah, most people have to be careful when shopping for games... if you end up in a store that sells PC games, you might be a little grossed out since the Japanese PC market is almost exclusively Bishoujou/Hentai games.

Since we are talking about TV's/cables and such, I have a question.

I have been thinking about getting those Sony Component cables for my PS2. When I connect them to my LCD TV, will they make all games look better? Or will it only make the games that support progressive scan look better? (holding down whatever buttons before the game starts up)

It will make all games look better, but games with progressive scan will benefit greatly.

Well, having seen a PS2 running through composite, then S-Video, then component, I can say that yes, it does make a difference. If you're going to component from composite, then the difference is insanely big even without progressive scan. If you're going from S-video to component, then there's still a very noticable difference, but it's definitely less dramatic than moving up from composite.

Thanks for the responses guys. I might have to go find some component cables now.

Also is there a system selector that has component inputs? My TV only have 2 inputs and both are taken (DVD player and Xbox 360). How is the quality?
