No mic.
Best Buy has the Rocketfish mic for $20... trust me, it's worth it to have a mic. Makes a huge difference. It's easy to feel left out if you can't talk back.

Nah, I managed to get all 500 online freeburn challenges in Burnout Paradise done with no mic:cool:

My only personal request if you want to run without a mic is that you drive a little more carefully. It's more a common courtesy thing, we usually warn each other when we're driving like maniacs close to each other. Oh and that you don't turn down/off the voice volume. We structure our pick up races verbally.

:headache: There are no online challenges/trophies in GT5.

You are missing the point. BP online it really doesn't matter too much unless you are going for a specific trophy or challenge....and half the time you were trying to take out the other people....this is not the case in GT5 and having a mic does make a difference while racing online. No one is going to read a message during racing...to illustrate my point - it was far easier for Mad to say he was an sorry for shaking his @ss and shoving me off the road in a race than to type it in.

Without communication you are an island and no one will know what you think or why you did something stupid (and we ALL do it). That and you may be left out of a race because we may use a car / mod that you cannot support and no one will be the wiser nor should they care if you do not care if you are mic-less.

Honestly, race with or without one, I do not care. Just make sure you do not come back and complain about the race when you have no voice.

Remember, perception is reality. Without a mic people are left to solidify their own perception as to why you did or did not do something. It is far better to over communicate than under communicate....even if I am just picking on Mad's muscle car driving habits. ;)

So you tried to torpedo me and missed, water under the bridge and all that. While it's hilarious to look back on it, I should have let you get in front of me again, even if only to knock you back into the sand the next lap.

Had that been done without a mic, it would not have been so full of lulz and more like evil getting his cookie monster voice and roaring at me. But yes, mics are gewd.

I call Mad in the first corner!!! In all seriousness, we all tend to brake late into the turns, but having the mic helps when you have that lapse in concentration and brake way too late.

Maybe we need a NASCAR race. A little "rubbin' is racing". Nothing extreme, but a little bit of fun. Is there a car available online for that / for those without one?

If all else fails I can set up the pseye as a mic but it might allow too much background noise.

If I really screwed people up I'd probably pull over and let them pass. When I play NASCAR online(which is all I've really done) I've helped people out that have been screwed over by drafting them around the track and catching back up to the people who can't drive.

There is a Jeff Gordon NASCAR available in arcade mode, so it might be available online as well.
I can't beat that gran turismo all-stars race to save my life! I think I need a better race car.
If you have them, use the Mazda Furai or the Toyota Minolta. If you don't, you buy a Corvette ZR1 (C6) and race mod it. It's not easy, but any of those three can win that series.

I'll have the race list posted tonight but two cars you'll have to have are a Kei car and an MR car, maxed and modded out on the kei car with no PP limit. 425PP for the MR car. There will be no substitutions for the kei car race. Find a Japanese piece of crap that can race in the Beginnner Lightweight race and buy it. I'm at a loss for a third car, I'll come up with something.

Sports Soft will be the tires for the night.

Smthng - sorry but no dice on the NSX concept.

Mad - you sure you do not want a PP limit on the boxes? I have one that I believe is over the PP limit for the MR race. Ugh on the MR race BTW. Fair warning if I am able to make it - I WILL be all over the road.

Is it safe to assume that this race list is for next weeked, not tonight?

It's safe to say that now considering I got distracted between my dog, my car and errands today. I got my car up and running today which is somewhat of a miracle considering I let the battery sit dead for like 6 months in a car that is just a battery hog. Got to try a new white tea with pomegranate which tastes like candy and I just have to touch up the markings on my tools with nail polish.

Dog has been sick since Thursday, 'nuff sed. Picked up new satellite speakers to replace my rear surrounds, hit up Walmart for dog stuffs and pizza, Strauss for a battery charger/tender/reconditioner, Dollar Tree for Nail Polish(yellow and orange if you were wondering) and finally went back home to figure out wtf to do with it all.

Set up my speakers, shot off an email at Mirage about their speaker mounting bracket being stupidly designed because I can't use banana plugs and their bracket because the plugs hit the bracket. Stripped down the wires and ran them to the binding posts, mounted the other speaker(both are upside down for now but may go right side up).

Hooked up the battery thingamajig to the battery, it immediately went into FLOAT mode which made me think I had a completely dead battery, left it in FLOAT for a spell then hit the Recondition button for a couple hours. Switched it back to Charge and instead of going to FLOAT it actually started charging the battery. Got car running but stereo doesn't work, need to figure that one out. Put 25 miles on it going up and down the highway, with no radio so nothing but road noise. Car needs brakes, an inspection and I'd kill for my radio working again so when I roll up on some Mexicans I can blast Rammstein's "Te Quiero Puta" like a complete jerk.

Tested out speakers some, got stuck walking the dog for like 2 hours. Got a fair amount of things accomplished and none of them really related to gaming. Somebody gifted me $50 in Gamestop giftcards, so that's going towards Socom's Full Deployment bundle. I'm pretty much coming out of my funk and I'm fairly happy about it. Hopefully the momentum just keeps going and I'll be able to enjoy this coming weekend's races fully.

Don't go changing the rules. I just built it! ;)

...I just have to touch up the markings on my tools with nail polish.
Umm... WTF?

...mounted the other speaker(both are upside down for now but may go right side up).
Had a middle set mounted upside down on mine at the last place. Worked just fine. Made me happier when I figured out the faceplates with the logo could be flipped over making them look right way up again. :)

I've got a motorcycle sitting outstide my front door right now that stranded me 70 miles from home and has been giving me electrical problems since day one. Gonna drop it like a bad habbit as soon as a job justifies the next one. I hate batteries.

I mark my tools with nail polish. Makes them easier to distinguish from other non-marked tools. I've used the markings to reclaim MANY of my tools that have ended up in other trucks, tool bags and in tool piles where everything is mixed in. I like to "stealth" mark my tools to make it look as unmarked as possible, so I can have a reason to light somebody up for being a thief if they insist my tool is theirs.

My Klein screwdrivers/nutdrivers/anything with a handle I mark along the plastic with a grey that looks like it comes from the manufacturer, cheap screwdrivers have the bottom of their handles marked to tell me if they're flathead or philips(they go tip down in the tool bag). Klein markings on the handle tend to wear off easy, red for 1/4", yellow for 5/16", blue for 3/8" and so on fades away, so those get touched up. Marked my tape measure with the same color black as it's rubber trimmed out in, stealth marked my drill inside the battery slot, marked the battery sliders themselves from the stock white with blue and black. All of my adjustable wrenches are marked along the eyelet hole, looks like it comes that way. Tubing cutters need to be painted, they disappear so f'ing quickly.

As for my upside down speakers, they're Mirage OS3 SAT speakers. They can mount right side up or upside down, the manual says if they're mounted above 6 feet high to mount them upside down but I sit considerably lower than where they're mounted(62" high vs me sitting like 2 feet below them).
I've used the markings to reclaim MANY of my tools that have ended up in other trucks, tool bags and in tool piles where everything is mixed in.
Got it... forgot you worked with others with tools. I was thinking you were color coordinating your garage set or smthng. ;)

As for my upside down speakers, they're Mirage OS3 SAT speakers.

I'd think you can't really fault the bracket manufacturer for that... I'm guessing it's kind of like the VESA standard mounts on TVs. I think it says the screws have to hold a certain wieght and be a certain distance apart, but it's up to the manufacturer of the speaker to determine where to put the bracket screws. I know my Difinitives have the mount holes at the top simply because the tweeter is smaller and there's more room in the case for them.

Back on topic... be glad you didn't go for the 450 points for the MR... I can just barely get my Lotus Elise under 450, but there's no way it's going to run worth squat at 425. Still browsing the collection for a suitable MR, but may eventually settle on the Autozam just because it's got a certain "ugly cool" that I'm digging right now. ;)

I can confirm the Jeff Gordon car is available to everyone online. It was in my garage when I looked, and I do not own it. I only own the Kyle Busch and Earnhardt Jr cars.

Just wanted to post a heads up... there's a GT5 patch you'll be required to install next time you start it. I think it's about 50 megs, so prepare to let your connection chew on it for a bit before being ready to race. According to the notice, it's just a track fix. There's also a new time and drift trial under the seasonals.

Did the online dealer update as well? I saw most of the tracks except for the Lambo seasonals had a due date up to last Tuesday and that's usually when the dealer changes.

Didn't occur to me to check. :S. I'm currently patching something else tthat will take a while, but will check when done.

It didn't change last week IIRC, but there are a bunch of Muscle Cars in there now.
I don't see why not. I'm falling a little short on the third race.
Mascara on Deep Forest. :whistle2:#

Wow. I have to leave that massive auto correct failure in there. Mascara, really? How do you get that from NASCARs?

Yes, let's all go purchase mascara and run around Deep Forest.

Stock Z4's on SS5? CR-Z's on Autum Ring?

How about a 500 pp truck race on Cape Ring Periphery?

or...

Kart race on Eiger Norwand Short? That should be entertaining. ;)
Laguna Seca would be far more entertaining with trucks, plus I can get my revenge on Mad as well. :D
Karts on Daytona? You could even let your kid drive. LOL.

It's a bit of an inside joke.

Actually watching him play MarioKart right now.

Update - depending upon what time we start, I may not make it or only for a race or two. Sometime between 830 & 900 CDT I will be hoping off to play Borderlands with a friend who just got it. Since we do not hook up online that much it will take precedence.

Syn, this is the last official word we have so far, so you can start with teh kei and MR. I think Mad's still deciding on tracks and the third car.

bearhawk79, if you don't have the others on your friend list, just check me in the community and join when I'm in.

Time is still TBD, I think.
Yes, EST.

OK, so where can I get the Kei and MR? PP limits?
Kei is anything that can enter the lightweight Cup in beginner level and has no PP limit.

MR is 425PP. Lotus has a lot of MR cars.

Lotus is hard to make competitive in that PP range... go for a Toyota MR2 or an Autozam or smthng.

Updating (1.09). Only 48 MB. Have a HUGE scare as a disc got stuck in my console. It was a previous rental with that sticker they put around the center. Turned the console upside down and back upright and it came out. So far so good...
Good racing, I had a good view from last place:bow:
I highly suggest getting a mic if at all possible.
