CAG GTAIV Night: Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel[ 9/2 @ 10pm EST ]
Take a side trip and pick me up, I'll bring my knife in case he gives you any trouble.

Also, isn't everyone buying SOCOM for the headset?
I played the original SOCOM on the PS2 and that was it. I should've kept the headset when I returned the game many, many years ago, but instead I traded it into EB(back when EB was a seperate entity)for $5 or so.

Ever since then though, I have zero or close to zero interest in the games and I have less than zero interest(if that's even possible) in a headset.

So, I guess we're getting another stupid patch for this thing, huh? For the achievement whores, it'll be a plus. But for me, it means shit. That means I should start my PS3 up in about 20 minutes if I want it to be done downloading/installing for the 10 pm start time, huh?

I don't think the patch will be out for a while (at least not tonight), so don't worry about it.

I doubt I'll be getting any of the trophies unless they're retroactive. I'll get a few of the multiplayer ones I guess, but I won't be starting a new game of this any time soon.
Or will I??????

imo it would be very easy for GTA IV to be retroactive, because the game (at least in the past) keeps stats of everything that you do... now I'm not certain if GTA IV still gives the scrolling list of how many cars you've stolen, and how many people you've killed, however if it does, then that's the stats that should be the trigger for if you get a trophy or not.

I willingly played through GTA III and Vice City numerous times, but only since I traded my original non-GH copies and my one gf got me the two pack of the games when she got me a new PS2 in 2002 or 2003.

Plus, those games had a reasonable reward system for finding packages. Whereas in this game, you have to find ALL 200 pigeons before you get your big reward(an Annihilator, which I've used in online multi innumerable times). The driving was better in those games(and San Andreas as well)as well, which is another reason why I won't replay this game anytime soon.

I went through only the number of races you HAD to with Brucie to get to the point where you would go fetching cars for him. Beyond that, I had zero interest in the racing part of the game as well.

Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City did a number of things well, while San Andreas added alot of extraneous garbage that was a bit annoying at times(CJ needs to eat or the time you spent doing the stupid weightlifting is for naught).

My one buddy started Uncharted last night when I went up his families' house with my copy and he was a bit pissed off that he had to update for the trophies system. But, he spent more time searching on the levels in the game to look for the hidden treasures because I think he liked the trophy system after bitching about having to update.

However, I look at them as wasted time, but if that's your thing so be it.

Got home a bit late so I'll be a little late in getting started.

In the meantime: Every PS2 GTA was more fun than GTA4. DISCUSS.
The GTA 'stories' games are not that great... therefore, metaly fails and I win! :D;)
:whee:

That C&C where Cheapest took a boat from the starting point was freaking cool.

You know what else was cool? All the car explosions near the finish of the Cannonball Run.

Forgot about that... I just started spectating you and *boom* *boom* *boom* *boom* :applause:

Also, my plan of launching rockets down the stairs in Happiness Island... That was pretty awesome, I think you were also helping. ;)

The Stories games obviously don't count!
!!!!!!!!!!
Pssfftt. Come on. :nottalking:

Extra props to Cheapest for taking the boat in that one game. I was really wishing I left auto-aim on when you sailed by me at the airport.

And yeah... freaky just seems to cause explosions wherever he goes. :hot:

Well, you have to give GTAIV credit for at least having online play. ;)

and we learned tonite that Freaky can never drive during C&C, as he gets stuck J/k. It was fun we got slaughtered on the rockets match...

It took forever for me to get a damn boat, since apparently they made it tougher to take over boats in this game versus the older ones.

That's all I used to do when I got bored in Vice City, was take a smaller boat and crash into other ones, then take out the occupants and take their boat.

I must've swam for a good couple of miles in that C&C game before I finally got into a speedboat(which kept hitting the wakes of the other boats and seemed like it was moving really slow).

By the way, did we run out of time in that C&C game or did we actually win that one, since I swear the end point was still to the north of where I switched boats.

EDIT: As far as games go, I preferred the helicopter controls in Vice City over San Andreas or this game and I would've liked the ability to swim in Vice City(or even GTA III), since there were a couple of areas I'd have wanted to explore in VC or III. Plus the fact that the choppers in VC and San An at least had friggin' rockets. Hitting anything with the chain guns in IV is a pita.

I wish you could actually dive down in the water in IV though, since those half sunken ships on the far northern shore of I think Alderney would be nice to explore.

We won that C&C game (well, that round anyways, I don't know if we won the whole thing)... The "end point" was north of where I picked you up, but I already got the getaway vehicle and just needed to pick you up to win. I figured it'd be quicker to meet you half way.

I was going to bail out of the boat and see if the helicopters spawned at the airport, but I opted to keep going with the boat instead. I'm glad I did, since from what I remember from the last C&C, the helis don't spawn at the airport during those games.

By the way, what the hell was with having the cops on during that first deathmatch mode we played? That made it infinitely more difficult to score any kills during that game without being busted or killed by the cops. Auto aim being on didn't help matters much either.

If anything, the DM mode games should be restricted to one section of LC, since I tend to run off and grab a chopper when it's a city wide DM.
EDIT: As far as games go, I preferred the helicopter controls in Vice City over San Andreas or this game
YES. I loved the dual-stick controls and couldn't believe (well, I could) that they took them out in SA, likely because they started using the right stick for the camera. But I don't remember the helicopter camera being bad at all in VC. If anything, it's gotten way worse to the point where it takes forever to make a sharp turn in GTA4, since the camera takes ages to swing around. I'd love to get VC controls back in the next GTA, but I doubt it'll happen.

I turned cops on during that first DM because I'm capricious.

Hey guys. I've decided to bow out of hosting GTA on Sundays because of my schedule lately. I'll still be doing the Wednesday game for people who want to play during the week.
I'd love to get VC controls back in the next GTA, but I doubt it'll happen.
That probably won't even happen, especially if EA gets their mitts on Take-Two as a whole before the next GTA comes out. If they do, I predict lots of real world ads and paying for every little thing that is normally included in the typical Rockstar GTA game.

As for tonight, I may be around at 9 pm. I'm going out in a bit to put down an almost last minute pre-order on Little Big Planet at Blockbuster with some of my credit I've amassed.

Unfortunately, that will add to my PS3 backlog I already have, which includes Conan, Godfather, Mercenaries 2, Uncharted and my most recent purchases(today). Those include: Resistance, Dark Sector and Assassin's Creed.

I'm in the middle of something else online, so I'm doubting I'm going to make it right now. But if any of you are online later on and want to set up some games, let me know via message or whatever.

BTW Metaly, when you're in a chopper and want the camera to at least seem to spin around faster, click the right stick down to do the rear view, then let up off the stick and it should have the camera facing forward in that split second.

That's how I usually turn and get moving in the opposite direction so quickly with a chopper.

so i take it last night didn't happen? should we switch to wednesday nights only from here out since the last two sundays had poor showings?

What the heck is going on here.
Monday Night Football

I got more kicks than martin gramatica
if you get near me, a grenade will splatter ya

I'm available most nights, but my connection is wireless and it's usually only around 60-70%, so I'd prefer if someone else hosted.

I actually had a hell of a day yesterday in the game, as I finally found 3-4 other people who didn't treat free mode like deathmatch. We spent a couple good hours just cruising around near the airport and doing stunt jumps.

I had an idea for a game in free mode again, though since there's no real way to 'score' someone in that mode, it may not work too well.

If we managed to get enough people for a FM game some night, I had an idea about doing stunt jumps using the two ramps nearest the northern end of the airport. We could have other CAG's grab trucks and park them between the two ramps and take turns seeing who could jump the gap without smashing into the trucks.

BTW, I figured out(finally) how to keep total strangers from invading and taking over our CAG GTA nights. When we go to set up a game, you have to set it to custom game, then set the private slots to MAX. That way no one but us can get in on the games, as it takes an invite to join then.

Yep, there's a game tonight. Remember that it starts an hour later than the old Sunday time.

And Cheapest, I've been setting it to max private slots every time.

I personally like doing flips with the bike over the airplanes taking off.
I almost pulled one off over a helicopter yesterday but it was a little to the right of my bike manslaughtering another player.
I was getting disconnected alot yesterday too.

I guess that's another glitch then, with the non-CAG's making it into the game, unless the invite only type games allow for players other than the one making the game to invite their friends too?

Either way, I had the game hang during the 'start a new multiplayer game' screen that pops up after being booted from a multiplayer game and just a bit earlier I had it completely freeze during a pretty intense Team Deathmatch game.

That, if you ask me, personally sucked since my team had about $3200 and the game wasn't even half over.

I really wish Rockstar would fix the damn issues with multiplayer, since I can't even count how many times I got the 'connection lost' message.

The few times random people got in, it was because we had just played a co-op game and that causes the game to forget the private slot settings. People other than the host can invite people into a private game, though.

Well, we were down to three so I closed it down early. Maybe we'll have a better turnout next week.

And man, if I knew the Annihilator had such a speed advantage over the other helicopters, I would have had eeryone use the same one. ;

Sorry that I had to cut out early last night. Had to take the dog out and get to the corner store before it closed up. By the time I got back, everyone was gone! :(

Sorry about no-showing last night, but I've been going to bed earlier the last couple nights and I found myself falling asleep in front of the tv while watching Mythbusters last night.

I woke up around 11:30 and figured that CAG night had already ended, then went back to bed.

Truth be told, there's usually a better turnout later at night(after 11pm-midnight) when I'm usually playing Team Deathmatch against some other CAG's.

I think the poor showing the last couple of weeks has been due to the LBP beta though and I don't see the attendance jumping back up once the actual game releases on the 21st.

If anyone is around, I'm up for a game or three tonight. Although, I do have to get up early tomorrow to go get my car inspected, so I probably won't be on for too long tonight.

Anyone up for some Team Deathmatch or just hanging out at the airport doing stunts in a private Free Mode?

I don't have GTA4 anymore, so I removed many of you from my friends list, in case you needed to free up some slots. I did have a lot of fun the times I played though. Hope to see some of you on the Mercs 2 board or the Saints Row 2 board, once I pick that up.

I just sent out PSN reminders to a few people, but then freaky reminded me about the debate tomorrow. So, the game will probably get postponed for at least half an hour. Would people still be willing to play then?

Unrelated, but the new 2.50 firmware seems to fix the mic issue in Warhawk, so I'm optimistic that it'll be fixed in GTA as well.

I'm going to a concert in Boston tonight so I won't be able to join you guys, unfortunately.

I forgot that the last debate is tonight! I better set the Tivo before I leave...thanks for the reminder.
