CAG Lord of the Rings Online Kinship

Update: Looks like they are having a few more rounds of lotteries and they've re-opened the Anniversary Token lotteries to Lvl 5+ again. Might be a chance to get your Anniversary mount, but you'll need to get hopping because you need 3 Horse Tokens and you have to deal with the cool down timer on those (you can get 1 at the Horse fields and 1 at Michael Delving right away. The cool down timer if you lose the race varies, but is usually less than 2 hours (sometimes less than an hour). The cool down timer when you win a race varies between a couple of hours and 24 hours, and can be different at each race track.

Even if you don't want the horse, you can buy the maps or other event-exclusive house decorations or cosmetic clothes.
Kaltic: I was thinking of putting these maps in the Kinship House chest for others to use and we can collect the whole set there. What do you think? Do we have space?
That sounds fine to me and I have no idea how much space there is, I know Buvo (redline) said that he may go through the chests and sell the common recipes (because there are sooooooo many recipes in the kin chests), but I am not sure if he did or not.

Now if you haven't noticed my LOTRO playing has almost completely died (Yeah I know it says I logged into Kalorin like 2 days ago, but it was for about 30 seconds). I am also getting really slow at updating the deals, there has been a new one since what the 28th? So if anyone would like to post deals, then be my guest. At least that way people would get the news sooner.

So I am not really being much of a kinship leader right now, but will hopefully get back to the game after finals (which are next week). School has just been way too crazy lately to put time into the game (I had 6 tests, a programming assignment, and two papers due over the last 3 weeks... 2 tests a week for 3 weeks with only 4 classes is just stupid).

As for the anniversary event. I did win some tokens through the lottery, but they are just sitting on my characters.

Apparently I was wrong, the sale started on the 29th. Anyway, from the 4/29/11 through 5/5/11 you can get your stew on!

I am positive that people will not want the majority of this stuff, but here it is anyway.

Ingredient Packs 10-Stacks - (140) or 20% off
Guild Access - or (236) or 20% off
Crafting Tools - (40-240) or 20% off
Crafting Recipes - 70-210 or 30% off (w8swej8b (up to 25 per account))

A new sale hits us. 100 points off all stats tomes (so 195 each), which includes might, vitality, agility, will, and fate.

Hmm...I usually pass on things like this that you can earn in-game.

I did get lucky this last weekend when I was buying the riding skill because it just happened to be on sale for 50% off when I bought it for four of my alts which were only at lvl 6 or 7 and I wasn't willing to wait to level them up to Lvl 20 when they could get it for free.

BTW: The Kinship chests were too full for me to put the 8 maps in them, but unless there is an objection I can remove some of the spell books and lower-level scholar items and use them for my secondary Historian.

I also noticed that the kinship house is only paid up for another 2 weeks, so we should keep that up to date if we want to keep the house from being foreclosed ;-). I'd try making a payment but I need to do some questing because I gave nearly all my spare coin to my alts so they could buy a mount, but I'll try to chip in after I get my coffers filled up a bit. I'm also not sure if I have rights to make the payments for the kinship house, but I'll let you know if I don't.

Now that I think about it, I guess I should be talking about this in the kinship forum you setup on that other site. Just need to find the link again.

I want to join when school is done! I played beta it was fun! I played hide and seek with a rooster! I'll be back when I have an account and such!

EDIT: so apparently its too much to let me link my DDO account to my LOTRO account. I had to email them, I think im supposed to get a code to unlock LOTRO. Awkward. . .

Yeah I noticed when I logged back in a couple days ago the kinship house was low. To be honest I think someone else did already pay for it because it was either on the same schedule as my house or close to and my house had been foreclosed. I would say don't worry about that because I can log on and I have plenty of money to pay for the rent.

I am also perfectly fine with you removing some of those low level scholar recipes and spell books.

Also so you don't have to look you can use this link http://cag.guildlaunch.com/. Also it is in the OP now. And to be honest you wouldn't need to post anything in there. We got 1 member that doesn't belong to CAG that joined that site and it hasn't been updated for a long time (unless it has and I just don't know because I don't log onto it).

Yeah it is weird they won't let you do that easily. I wanted to link my LOTRO account to DDO, but then figured it is way easier to just make a new account and not deal with the hassle. Anyway, definitely join up even if you need to make a new account or not. We would love to have you... or those that are still playing would.

I'm double posting cause I'm too pissed off to edit!

Made a Guardian on the server. I don't recall his name Ill have to post it later.

I just was looking around for addons for the game to make things a bit more comfortable to me. Turns out it's really limiting on that sort of thing.

Why am I pissed of about that?

NO MOTHER fuckING GOD DAMN AGGRO fuckING METERS ALLOWED!?

What the fuck kind of bullshit is that. As a DPS or a Tank I don't want to have 70 fucking whipes before the fight is learned that's fucking dumb. God damn it! UGH!

Not sure what you mean by aggro meters, what do they do exactly? Whenever I play my guardian I just use my taunt and threat building skills to keep aggro off the minstrel or anyone else, don't know why a meter would be necessary.

Aggro meters aren't really needed in any game really. They're just something that shows you how much the targeted enemy likes you versus everyone else engaged in the fight.

The chest on the second floor should have plenty of free space, I went ahead and cleaned out some of the common recipes and put them on the AH to help pay a few weeks of rent on the kin house. I think we're paid up for another 4-5 weeks or so now. That would be awesome if you could put the maps in there to share for the deed, I was really busy over the past few weeks (went camping too) and pretty much missed out on all the anniversary stuff.

Like Draekon said, not needed but they show where you and others are at on the hate scale. It's just been my experience that if Im DPSing and get high I know to chill and if Im tanking i know who to get read to cover. LOTRO could/probably is a much different experience.

My Gardian's name is Lenlad. I made a hunter I haven't started yet but I'll be playing it with a friend and no other time most likely. Her name is Strodo.

Both or Hobbits. One day I'll have a Warden. It will be a Hobbit too.

Sorry for the rage. End of the school year stress.
Sorry for the rage. End of the school year stress.
Trust me I understand that completely. And LOTRO is a different experience. Compared to many other MMOs it is considerably slower paced and at least to me doesn't seem like it would need a DPS meter as much as say WoW or Warhammer Online

It turns out Update 3 is already here. Of course it is a minor update in comparison to Update 2. Still, it does add two new instances and skirmishes, which are free (only free early access for the instances) for those lucky VIP users. And then there is new stuff in the store, and the usual changes to classes and the game.

I played both skirmishes today. I have to say they were both a good bit more challenging than the other skirmishes. There are some cool environmental elements in both of them, and the boss fights are more interesting and frantic.

I would love to join the CAG kinship. How active is this kinship?

edit: I'm so lost in this game. I just started and I don't see anyone. Ever.

In this last week about 3 or 4 (Not sure if those are alts or not) people have been online. I know that Redline (Buvo) gets one very regularly. It isn't the most active so you would probably still end up being alone for a decent amount of time.

And you said you don't see anyone. Where are you and are you on Riddermark? Because the beginner instances have always had a bunch of people in it.

You can add me to your friends list (Buvo) and send me a tell when you see me online. My play times are a bit irregular - sometimes at night, sometimes during the day. I'd be happy to help you out with anything you are lost on, and answer any questions.

Like Kaltic said, the kinship isn't too active at the moment. Not sure if people are busy with school or just went elsewhere. Regardless, I think Riddermark is a good server selection. I saw some login statistics for all the servers recently, and Riddermark was highest. The population is definitely healthy on the server.

And I don't really play anymore (Sorcha) since I got my new job half a year ago or so. Too little time and too many other things that need playing too.

I would've posted this weeks deal a tad sooner, but alas my car decided it wanted to overheat and then once I got back after getting it towed a took a nap.

Anyway, for LOTRO you can Begin a New Adventure with 20% off character slots and classes.

Today only Evendim is available for 25% off if anyone wants to pick it up. This was announced in the store section of the forums and isn't listed on the normal store sales page.

It's typical that the quest packs only go on sale (or I only notice the sales) when I'm VIP and when I revert back to Premium....I never see a sale.

However, I'm finally up to Lvl 47 and since I have both expansions (MoM and SoM), I'm not sure if it will be a problem anymore (at least for my main toon).

Moria can take you up to 60, but I grew tired of it before then, it's normally to leave around 57-58 but the Lothlorien deeds won't complete until you are 58. Then you'll have Mirkwood to take you from 60-65. For your main toon you might need to purchase Lothlorien since it isn't included with Moria anymore if you drop VIP. Also if you want more to do after you hit 65 then Enedwaith which is 65+ content would be another zone you might want to pickup for your main.

Thanks for the info. I think I may have access to Lothlorien since I think they gave it to people that had added Moria (retail) prior to the change (but I don't think you get it now if you add a retail Moria license).

I was lucky enough to pick up 5 x 60-day time cards for $10 each, so I've been using those recently for VIP access and trying to save the 500 TP I get each month. I also had 3 months of VIP when I started due to the D2D promo and then adding a retail license for SoA and MoM (each of which gave me a free month). Plus I bought the 6,900 pts for $49.99 when I first started, though I've used some of that to upgrade shared storage and buy some extra character slots.

Since you know more about the higher-level content than I do, what are your thoughts on buying the quest packs/skirmishes/etc. vs. paying for VIP?

Other than Monster Play, is there any content that you are missing by not having VIP?

I think all of the per-character caps (storage bags, gold) are removed as long as you played the toon while VIP, so that shouldn't be a problem since I already created all the toons I'll need. The rest experience bonus you get while VIP is nice, but not really that important.

Just wondering if I should bother buying the quest packs if I'm going to keep paying for VIP. After all, while I started playing LOTRO because it went F2P, I'm continuing to play because I'm enjoying the game, in which case I don't mind paying to play if there are extra benefits to being VIP. But if I can pay once and get (nearly) everything by buying the quest packs, that makes more sense to me in the long run since I can start or stop whenever I want w/o feeling I have to play because I already paid for VIP access for a certain period of time.

I'm fairly certain all of those benefits go away when you are no longer VIP, so you have to buy them or go VIP again.

No, I'm about 99% positive that gold cap and 5 storage backs are character unlocks that are unlocked by purchasing if non-VIP or by going VIP. Once unlocked, they are permanent for the character even if you drop down to Premium from VIP.

Of course, the unlocks only apply to characters that were played while you were at VIP. If you didn't play the character while VIP, the caps don't get unlocked. And any characters you create after dropping back to Premium will still have the caps.

I think there may be a limit on # of items you can sell at Auction, but I'm not sure if that's an account or character cap. You can pay TP to increase the Auction cap if you aren't VIP, but I don't think VIP permanently unlocks it.

If you continue playing characters made during your VIP time then you would end up losing quest packs, skirmishes, monster play, auction house slots, and possibly mount traits (unless you got them during your VIP) time, and some character slots per server.

I would say the biggest loses are the skirmishes and monster play. Each skirmish costs 395 tp points and there are a shit ton.

But I can't think of much else other than that. Of course if you own the quest packs and skirmishes and mount traits then you really aren't losing all that much.

EDIT: My computer decided to delete the other quote and response I made... Characters made and played during VIP keep their gold, trait, and inventory bag slots. Their is no cap for them. Plus if you got the riding trait during that time then you keep that too. Also if you go back down to premium you still get all of fast travel (I forgot what they are called) stuff. Which is great because it wasn't always like that.

Ah, I forgot about fast travel. I remembered hearing that it was only for VIP, but if that also became an VIP unlock, even better.

All of my toons got the mount trait (bought it when it was on sale for 50 TP or something like that) and they all have the Anniversary mount (they all won enough Anniversary tokens from the lotteries so I just needed to have my main send them enough silver to buy the mount).

Now that my main is just about Lvl 50, I figure I'll be in the MoM and SoA content (which I already bought), so I may let my account drop back down to Premium to see what I'm not able to access. That will also let me take advantage of any sales they have on quest packs.

I haven't spent any time doing the skirmishes yet and was thinking I'd just do them after I hit max level. Are they fun? Worth doing? Do they all need a fellowship or can you do them solo?

If i'm not mistaken all the skirmishes have a solo option, but I've only done the two free ones since I don't own any of the others.
Ah, I forgot about fast travel. I remembered hearing that it was only for VIP, but if that also became an VIP unlock, even better.
The only way to get fast travel is by having a character be VIP, but fast travel is a per character unlock that once you have it remains unlocked regardless to you having the fast travel of a certain area unlocked or not when your VIP expires.

As for what locks after being premium, all your character traits, bags, and gold caps stay unlocked on characters you played while VIP. If you start a new character outside of VIP those things will be locked. You will go from 30 AH slots to 5 unless you purchased more. Since you have Moria you have 7 character slots while VIP, this will become 5 when VIP ends. You will be given the choice for choose which five characters you want to unlock the first time you login as premium. You will also lose your wardrobe storage space.

Any quest packs, skirmishes and the two new instances if you haven't purchased them will become locked. All of these are purchasable in store.

The only thing you miss out on that from being VIP that you can't buy instore is unlocking Swift Travel if you don't already have it unlocked on a character, and monster play. Everything else can be unlocked in the store and will stay unlocked for as long as you play.

The new expansion has received a release date and they have also announced some special editions that give you different bonuses. You can compare the three different versions of the expansion here.

To be honest the Legendary is extremely nice if you don't own the quest packs. Of course it doesn't give you the Moria expansion content, but you do get the Moria quest pack. Plus the mounts and cosmetic outfits look phenomenal.

But if you intend to buy it then pre-purchasing might not be a bad idea since you do get a 25% xp boost on all monster kills for all your characters up to lvl 65. Of course that would sort of shorten the experience so maybe you wouldn't want to do that depending on your play style.

I ended up buying the Legendary bundle even tough I already had the Moria and Mirkwood expansions (bought Moria retail and Mirkwood with TP soon after they went F2P). I figured the 3 extra quest packs and 1,000 TP justified the extra cost, plus I got the bonus items.

I'm thinking the +25% exp pocket item will come in handy when leveling up my alts, and i like the option of being able to enable/disable it at will.

Getting a free mount with all new alts is also a nice perk, though I don't really need it since I already have mounts for my alts (though this one has 200 morale from what I understand (though I heard it the pop-up attributes incorrectly say 100 morale), so it's a pretty nice "starter mount"). Of course you still need to obtain the riding skill, but that's not a big deal.

The cosmetics are pretty cool, though they weren't the deal-closer for me. I really saw the Legendary pack as a less expensive way to work towards buying the quest packs for my account so I have access to the content I need when I drop back to Premium level.

Here's a good FAQ on the RoI Expansion pre-order pulled from the forum postings:
http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?400013-Consolidated-Q-amp-A

And a list of related topics in the LOTRO forums on RoI:
http://forums.lotro.com/forumdisplay.php?596-Rise-of-Isengard

I'm still looking for a definitive list of what you get in the Moria and Mirkwood "Expansions" vs. the "Quest Packs".

From what I can see, there's no difference for Mirkwood (both are the same price in the LOTRO store).

However, for Moria, the expansion includes the Moria Quest Pack plus the following:
- 2 extra character slots
- Rune Keep and Lore Master character classes
- Some high limits on traits (I think)
- Maybe something else (can't check right now)

What I don't know is which (if any) skirmishes, instances or other stuff is included. I also recall that there are differences in what you got with the Moria expansion (retail or TP version) before and after a certain point in time last year (or maybe earlier this year?). I just heard about it after the fact but wasn't able to track down exactly what you lost by not activating a retail Moria expansion prior to that date.

Given that you can't get the Moria at retail for a great price anymore, I'm not sure there's a big difference between buying the Moria expansion with TP vs. buying the quest pack and extras separately, and you have the option of just buying the pieces you want.

Overall I think the expansion looks promising and I think they did a pretty good job of putting together attractive pre-order options.

I was actually considering starting up another account (using the referral option in case I buy TP for that account) and buying the RoI Legendary pack for it so I could entice my friends to play along with me. I'm trying to get my wife to give it a shot, but she really isn't interested. Still, $50 on top of the free account gives you a good amount of content to play at a reasonable price.

Also, to be clear with the bonus content, you get the 3 quest packs that are part of the Fellowship of the Ring bundle (which includes Trollshaws, Eregion, Lothlórien) PLUS the Moria and Mirkwood quest packs (not normally part of the FotR bundle). I'm pretty sure all of those would cost at least 3,000 - 4,000+ TP in the LOTRO store on their own ($25 - $40, depending on which TP bundle you buy and when you buy it).

It really is a good bundle even if you already have one or two of those quest packs.

Plus, I think it's pretty cool that you get all of the pre-order bonuses immediately and don't have to wait for the RoI release in September to benefit from pre-ordering now. Very smart move on their part to pull in money now.

I forgot Turbine does things differently than my other games... now I remember keeping some VIP stuff on DDO... I can't keep track of all my MMOs anymore, I have around 3 paid and 4 free that I play. LOTRO I've had a lifetime on since it came out of beta, so yea... for me it's just log on and do stuff >.>

Is anyone looking to get into LOTRO? I've still got a 30 day VIP code for new accounts only that I would love to sell. I say this because I would love to pre-order RoI, but $30 and $40 are a bit more than I like to spend on full games. Selling that off to help pay for RoI would make me feel not as bad for doing it though.

I believe if you activated the retail Moria expansion by a certain date you got the Lothlorien quest pack. After that date, the Moria expansion does not come with Lothlorien. Since you got the Legendary bundle that comes with Lothlorien, you won't have to worry about it.

From 6/10 to 6/16 you can Share Your Style! You can save 20% on shared wardrobe space, a 3rd cosmetic slot, and cosmetic wears and dyes.

They also added the Complete Ceremonial Ajokoira Outfit to the store and guess what it costs an outrageous 1695 turbine points, which if I'm not mistaken is actually more than that Steed of the Night.

I'm a level 27 captain but I feel like my character is pretty weak...

Any suggestions on how to build it better? One big problem is I die pretty fast cause I have no potions or foods really. I just changed my hobby or whatever it is to cook, so maybe that'll help me with getting food? Also, my armor is fugly. I want epic looking armor hahah. Or at least something good for a level 27...

Also I heard somewhere (maybe here..) that skirmishes are fastest way to level up? Is soloing okay? Or is it better to skirmish with others?

Well Captains aren't necessarily the best class for taking hits so there is that. But if you need good gear and you can't craft any then check the auction house.

Skirmishes are an easy way to lvl and they have a daily bonus the first time you do then each day, so doing them at least once a day would be worth it. But I will say that I find skirmishes very boring after awhile. I can only do the skirmishes for a couple days before finding myself bored. And yeah you can totally do them solo.

Use the best (highest DPS) two-handed weapon you can find. If you are soloing, use your herald all the time! You can send him into a group of mobs first to get aggro. He's your own personal tank. Plus he has some useful skills to stun enemies and even heal you. Wear heavy armor and use defensive strike frequently to buff your armor. Use your marks before battle to deal extra damage or return morale to you. Use Rallying Cry whenever you defeat an enemy if your morale is low. I found Captain to be one of the most survivable classes and easiest to solo, it sounds like you might just need better gear.

I think part of the reason is cause I have no clue what traits to use. I'm trying to build a balanced captain (buff/dps/heal) and don't know which combination would work best...
