CAG Lose It weight loss challenge.

this is my first time on here but the only thing I do to stay fit is run 2-3 miles every other day and hit the weights on my non running days for 30-40 minutes. I'm 5'11 195lbs 34 years old. I only eat fast food twice a month but I do love ice cream so I eat that every other day. My key to staying thin is to just keep my routine and not over eat. I stay in the 195-200lbs range which is a perfect weight for being in the military.

I have egg whites cooked with 2 slices of fat free ham and about 10 grapes for breakfast. I have ham, lettuce, tomato, light vinegar and oil on a roll with a small bag of baked lays for lunch and then whatever for dinner but like you I do turkey meat only, lots of chicken and vegetables (no starch) and I limit myself to one portion. Snacking is tough for me - I usually have a granola bar or two in addition to the apple and bag of grapes and bag of carrots I bring to work. I drink water all day and absolutely no alcohol.
Are you getting enough healthy fat in your diet? Perhaps a handful of nuts (almonds, yum!) or so PB on whole wheat will get you through the mid-day slump.

WOW, all of the progress you guys are making...very impressive. Keep up the good work!
___

I had to raid my 18 year olds closet again today for clothes to wear for my company picnic. I look like that 39 year old who is trying to look 18 again...in other words, ridiculous.

I've been pretty much hovering between 184-188 the past week. Looks like my remaining fat is being readjusted from just my belly to, well I'm not really sure. I just know that I could probably fit into 32's, but 34 is still the sweet spot.

Still running 3.5 miles every other day, playing basketball 2 days a week and mowing the lawn on the weekends.

The diet is just eating whatever I want, just not the mass quantities I used to. I'm also making better choices...like a chicken sandwich instead of a Cheeseburger or Pizza. I'm totally ignoring the fast food. And all I drink is water.

Feels good to be in the spot where I feel like I'm not dieting anymore.
Hmmm... I guess my next question is how old are you? I follow pretty much the same sort of routine but I probably get a few extra calories at lunch (but less in the morning). Your results in such a short time are much better than mine over a much longer period (I'm 37 though).

I have egg whites cooked with 2 slices of fat free ham and about 10 grapes for breakfast. Weekends are where I go off the rails (I still eat OK but I just eat more and I usually sneak a cookie or two - not horrible but could be much better). The "easy" solution is to stick to my strict weekday diet but it is so hard being home and surrounded by all that crap.

I'm OK on exercise... I think.

I'm 24, so I got that on you ;) . If I was you, one thing I would do is eliminate any white bread that you have, it’ll do wonders. I'd focus less on just egg whites, I don't personally think that is worth it. Your body needs fats too. Replace the granola bars with a banana(s) depending on how big they are (even if you hate them, you'll learn to love them). The only other thing I will suggest is walking (especially now that you have a newborn). Walk a mile or two with your wife, I truly think it is key to losing weight (and having very nice legs). One thing I like to do is walk to the store if we need something. The more things you can do the better.

Eww, pig (ham). ;) Crunchy lettuce sounds good. Depending on the lettuce I'll opt for spinach or kale as there is more nutritional value. :)

I send this to the lady.

Me: "My superpower is being a bobblehead."
Her: "At least I won't ever need an umbrella."

I never knew I could simultaneously laugh and cry.

And I have Mike Pierce abs and I'm okay with that. For now. Give me another four weeks and we'll see. COMING FOR YA TROY. YA DICK. ... ;)
LOL love the response. Now that you mention it you do have a similar body to Pierce. I personally just got some ab workouts from my younger brothers (they gladly gave big bro some advice and rubbed in how much stronger their abs/core is). Always have to rub in your bigger arms don't ya :(

Routine is key, you got that right. I don't eat fast food, ever. The last time I did I got a plain grilled snack wrap from McDonalds, just about the only thing I'd touch on their menu lol. I'm glad you found something that works well for you

Hopefully you're feeling much better since the accident, be sure not to over do it today. The only thing that will set you back more is pushing too hard and getting what becomes a nagging always present injury.

Number83, that is exactly the point in our lives that everyone in here should be trying to get to. The day where it becomes routine to make the healthy choice, to eat less, and exercise while not going overboard is the day that we officially passed the challenge. Also, I hope the clothes you stole have name brand BS pasted all over it

I used to snack on almonds but I know I was eating too much. For the longest time I was "stuck" at 195lbs. and I used to tell myself that it was just my natural weight. Then my sister tells me to eat an apple instead of almonds (keeping everything else exactly the same) so I try that and 15lbs. melted off in like 2 months - it was shocking. PB on whole wheat is a good idea - and easy since that is all my son eats so we have it in the house (soy PB though).

Awesome - you have basically won. There is no better feeling than "figuring it out" and getting to your goal weight and easily maintaining it. That is what we all strive for.

Damn whipper-snappers. Get off my lawn! I'll try the bananas - I love them so it shouldn't be a problem. Walking everywhere is also a good idea but I'm afraid that would be limited to weekends only because of my work schedule. Every little bit helps though.

What do you have against egg whites? I've always heard that they are a great source of protein and they have basically no calories. I do agree on needing a certain amount of fats though - the trick is picking the right ones.

I started exercising routinely last fall (stationary bike and walking). When I started, I weighed in around 310 lbs. Today I weighed in at 259. My goal is to get down to 230, then see what I feel like from there. It's been a tough path to stick to, but well worth it.

Javery, the yolk has half the protein :)

Gym wasn't bad tonight.

Squatted 135 2x5, 145 1x5, 165 1x5, 175 1x5

Bent over row 135 3x5

Bench 135 3x5

Dip 190 3x8

Bicep dumbbell curl 40 3x8

Gracias, senor. I've grown to understand why some women ponder breast implants. I've pondered having the fat layer surgically removed. I know I have bad-ass abs under it and it drives me nuts. I've worked years in refining my body but that darn layer stays put. And I've been on T for months and it still survives! What the heck. It's probably nuke-proof. This is what happens when I spend the senior year of high school eating entire cakes and pizzas, and stuffing my face with cheesy Quiznos subs. Grr.

I didn't expect it, but, surprisingly, you have helped push me to work even harder. You all have. I had no such expectation when I first dived into this group. So...Thanks guys.

And nice to see you back in action, Sean. I hope all is well with your health. :)

EDIT: And damn you for being three years younger, Troy! That's cheating! ... ;)

Thanks chase!

Weighed myself today. I started my cut at 183 4 weeks ago. Today I was 177. Now I didn't go to the gym for 2 of those weeks, but still I'm pretty happy and I've adjusted to less calories. Like yesterday I had 3 eggs to pieces of bacon for breakfast, 5oz of chicken and 2 eggs for lunch, 5oz chicken and greenbeans for dinner and two scoops of whey after the gym. That's it and I was fine.

Isn't the yolk the bad part though? Cholesterol, etc? I'd much rather just have a normal scrambled egg for breakfast!

Looks like you are right back into it at the gym - those are some solid numbers. I bet it felt good. I've been lifting more but super-light weights. I did some straight bar curls this morning with 2.5lbs. on each side! I'm really trying hard to not balloon out and when I lift heavy I can get too big too quick - I have a pretty wide frame/broad shoulders, etc.

I feel the exact same way about my midsection. I just can't get rid of that layer which is why I think people who are all ripped up have to be doing it unnaturally (not necessarily steroids or anything but at least some supplements). I'm at the point where I'd entertain a good recipe. When I was in my early 20s and ephedra was still sold everywhere it was much easier to maintain a six-pack - it was almost impossible to gain any weight.

He's got 13 on me! Getting old sucks, believe me.
It's not the years, it's the mileage. ;)
True. I've taken pretty good care of myself over the years and most everyone I meet is surprised when they learn my age (probably because I still act like I'm in my 20s) but I have noticed the effects of age starting to creep in more and more. Mainly my eyesight, which was 20/10 all my life, has been noticeably worse. I don't need glasses or anything but I can't read things in the distance as easily anymore. Recovering after a good workout takes longer too. I won't even get into the gray hair or not being able to get through the night without taking a leak. Ugh.

This is why losing/maintaining weight and exercising is so important. I look at some of my friends who are slowing down due to not taking care of themselves and I don't know how they have the energy to get through the day.

Nice job scragman! And you guys are making me feel guilty for being young :(

I forgot to post my weigh in Wednesday, I was at 181 pounds. I'm anticipating being under 180 by this coming Wednesday, I'm debating between staying relatively cut for summer or upping my calories a bit and putting on some more muscle.

Didn't ride my bike this morning (though I did ride the motorcycle, so I kind of rode a bike) and feel like I'm bouncing off the walls. I'm actually sad I didn't do a ride here this morning. Regardless, commuting on the bike is an amazing feeling. Fresh air for 30 minutes, the ride is only a few minutes longer than driving, and it feels like it puts more distance between me and work. Plus its phenomenal for my body LoL.

Welcome to the 50 lbs. lost club Scragman. It was a great feeling when I got there myself. Keep up the great work man.

Progress:
Starting weight in Semtember 2011: 300 lbs.
First attempt at weight loss - November 2011: 280 lbs.
Post Holiday failure: 305 lbs.

On January first I started over.
First goal: 250lbs reached on 5/24/12
Next goal: 220 lbs.
Current Weight: 246 lbs.

I haven't taken a progress pic since I hit 250, but here is me and my dad at a recent event. He went from 260 down to 200 last year at 76 years old and was a big motivator for m starting my weight loss.

Also Troy you may be the youngest posting in this thread, but I'm 27 so we could have been in highschool together :D

Not to minimize your progress, but your dad deserves mad props especially at 76. Just goes to show you that you're never too old to think about fitness if you have the means.

Yeah for sure Dohdough. We always had little lap dogs growing up and last year my dad decided he was going to buy a yellow lab. He walks that dog every day and they probably go close to 3 miles. Walking really is where it's at.

At least someone is near my age range in here Habbler. You can definitely see your weightloss, and I'm glad you guys were able to do it together.

Guys just keep at it. I am in the same boat. I have pretty flat stomach with just enough fat to cover my abs. I'm going to try to diet with absolutely no cheat days for awhile and see how that works out for me

Ugh. So I'm on lockdown again this week. My wife wants me home in the mornings until school is out (so middle of next week). This sucks.

Weeks like this, I'm glad I kept my Wii Fit. Just stay away from the junk food to counter balance the lack of gym time. Good Luck!

Saturday was depressing.

Overhead press 95lbs 3x5

Deadlift 225 1x5

Some chin ups till failure 3x

During I felt ok. An hour later? Major back spasm. Had to take a tramadol.

My fiances a nurse. She said since I didnt feel pain during its most likely not an injury. I'll have to talk to my doctor when I see her next week. It's just depressing because lifting and games are my only outlet. And the beach is in a month i wanted to have better results by now.
Just took my before picture. Not amazing.

My brother had success with the 17-day-diet so I'm gonna give it a whirl. I'm very active and go to the gym 4-5 days a week but I've slipped with eating well. This plan is really good for me.

I'm 5'10" - Scale today: 208
After one week I'm down to 200 lbs.

Better yet is just how good I feel. Especially at the gym, just feel so much stronger since I'm eating the right things.

Honestly, the only hard part is not being able to drink alcohol for a few more weeks. definitely hard in the summertime.

Might start a hardcore core exercise plan this week but I would need to join a second gym for a couple of months as my current gym, which I love, just doesn't have a big room for body weight exercising.

I'm not a regular reader of this thread, but I started a calorie counting/exercise program about three weeks ago and I'm down 12.5 pounds to this point (to 202). I'm looking to hit pre-law school weight (about 190) by sometime in July, and then I'll worry about getting to 180 or below (probably my natural weight).

I'm around 5'10" as well. I've been sticking to a 1,300 calorie base and cut out all sweets and sodas, drinking water, crystal light, and lightly sweetened tea, and eating very little cheese, mayonaise, bread... mostly lean proteins and a lot of wedge salad lunches. Exercise is mostly an exercise bike.

1,300 calories a day? That sounds extremely low. Is that calculation based on your BMI? Hopefully you're not taking your body into starvation mode.

I'm 5'10" at around 175, and I don't think I could function on 1,300 calories a day.

Oh you can, if you don't do a whole lot of lifting / hard exercise. You could squeeze 6 eggs, a piece of toast, a peanut butter sandwich, a banana, and a bowl of cereal and milk into 1300 calories, it isn't that tough. Now to actually enjoy only 1300 calories is another story.

Yeah, I suppose I could, but in that range, I'd have zero energy and would definitely be tired.

And, I couldn't give up my lifts and exercise. ;)

That set is pretty good for a guy who was sneak-attacked by a car. Keep your eyes on the prize, Sean. :) The road to recovery can be a bastard.

Do you have any equipment at home, Javery? Could be a good excuse to get some. ;)

Keep up the good work, everyone.

Found out last night that my mom has ovarian cancer, the tumor is 4x6 and 2-3 inches thick (if anyone wants to I'm sure she'd appreciate any prayers you send her way). I tend to eat like crap when things get rough, so this is the part where the rubber meets the road in terms of sticking to eating healthy (I did have a bowl of ice cream and m&m's last night lol). I biked to work this morning and am glad I did that, it gave me an opportunity to just sit back and think about everything.

Dad just got his 10 year "cancer free" tests 3 weeks ago and we all were just relieved to be done with it...just fuckin sucks.

I just gotta make sure I don't fall off the wagon.

Man, I haven't visited this page in a while... I'm maintaining a steady 208-210 these past couple of months. I'm sad I went up from 196 in December, so I need to pick it back up. I ended up passing my PE exam that I had been studying since January and worrying about so now I can concentrate on exercising again. It's tough with a desk job where you want to snack all day so I have to get back on myfitnesspal.

I went back a couple of pages to read what I had been missing. Damn seanr!! That looks pretty serious. Glad you're ok though and good to hear you're getting some exercise in.

Troy, awesome progress man! Sorry to hear about your mother though. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Javery, when my son was a couple of months old, I would exercise in the nursery while he lay in his crib. I used to watch the Insanity videos on a laptop and since there's no equipment, it was easy to get into. I'm not sure if you have neighbors who would complain about the jumping around though.

Troy, so sorry to hear about your mother. She's way too young for that. fuck cancer. A really good friend of mine just got through chemo, etc. and he's barely 40. Exercise can be a good way to take out some anger/aggression so don't stop.

I'm pretty sure I can't exercise even at home guys. I think this is more of an irrational "I'm not able to do anything so neither can you" thing with the wife. I don't get it at all but it makes her even more angry when I try to talk about it so I'll just suck it up I guess.

Troy, sorry for the news. My mom had ovarian cancer. I wish her the best with it. Good news about your dad.

And find the energy to exercise since it will take away some of the stress.

My prayers will be with your mom Troy. Maybe take up punching bag for awhile if your normal routine doesn't feel worth it. Like others have said an outlet for stress is never a bad thing.
fuck cancer.
This accurately sums up my sentiments. I helped take care of my grandpa and watched cancer cripple then kill him. My grandma (that grandpa's wife) fought breast cancer a few years before he was diagnosed and won that war. Troy, my prayers go out to your mom, yourself, and your family. Stay strong, sir.

Regarding fitness, I'm gonna echo the thought that perhaps your workouts can be used to vent your possible frustrations or anger. If you do buy a heavy bag, be sure to wrap your hands and wear gloves. The bag will eat up your hands and wrists. I don't wear gloves for heavy lifting but I do wrap my hands and wear gloves when I strike my bag. (The heavy bag.) And Javery, that is unfortunate. I guess the only way to pass that area of the warzone is to wait. Or, hey, sneak in as many pushups and crunches as possible when she's in the bathroom. ;)

Seriously, man. I keep thread-lurking around here picking up tips, but I just had to chime in to say that you guys will be in my thoughts. That shit has messed with my family on a few occasions too, man. Hang in there.

Was just getting back into things at the gym but for a month now my digestive system has been completely haywire. Honestly hoping it's parasites since those can be killed, because I'd hate to live with something like IBS or Crohn's disease for the rest of my life. I'd have to give up milk which is super important to me. And coffee =[

Haven't died of malnutrition yet so I figure my body is at least getting what it needs. Hope to gain the weight I promised I would like a year ago in this thread, and do it all this summer. Didn't have the budget to complete my goals during the school year, was living on coffee, eggs, and beer.

I ran six miles last night (without stopping). Was pretty pleased, especially since it's probably been a good eight or so years since I did that!

A friend of mine is a big, big runner...and she and I are now commited to running three nights a week. Definitely what I needed; before running with her last night, I could barely get four miles in alone.

I guess we're gonna work up to my first 10K...then half-marathon.
Pretty excited, as long as I'm able to do it all without losing too much muscle.

I did my weekly weigh in today and had a bigger loss than expected.

Height: 6'2"
Starting Weight: 300lbs
First goal: 250lbs reached on 5/24/12
Next goal: 220 lbs.
Last week's weigh in: 246 lbs.
Current Weight: 241 lbs.

I've been losing a steady 2lbs a week ever since I got down to 260, but this week I had a good 5 lb difference. Got in my 1 mile walk on my lunch 4 days this week and walked another 3.5 miles when I got home on all of those days. Didn't really switch anything up just got in a couple more walks than I would have on other weeks.

I found out I can get a gym membership through my health insurance for only $25 a month and there's a gym that participates in this program only 1.5 miles from my house. I've been thinking about doing some weights or something else to switch it up and I would still be getting my 3 mile walk just going there and back. I think I will sign up when I get paid next.

There aren't any gyms around you that do $10/month? Just about every single gym in my area is that cheap.

Surgery went as planned, cancer was worse than expected. It spread quickly. They said if she would have waited a week and a half they would have been watermelon sized tumors (apparently there were two) instead of 4x6 and about 3 inches thick. On a happy front, I told her she looked like she lost a few pounds, too bad she doesn't have a prior weigh in for the weekly weightloss challenge.

I road 30 miles Tuesday, 25 miles Wednesday, and another 25 today. Lifted heavy Wednesday and used an old mattress as a bag the past couple days. Trying to stay eating healthy, but I've ate more ice cream in the past 4 days than the past month lol.

Wednesday weigh in was 180. I saw there were a bunch of good losses by you guys the past few days, props on that. Thank you guys for the prayers and support.

Glad to hear that you've continued your fitness, Troy. :) And good to hear that your mom had a successful surgery. She sounds super tough. I shall continue to keep her in my prayers.

I have been playing The Universe in the background of my workouts. This is semi-big in my head as I usually need earbuds pumping in sound to focus. I guess that's my update. And I guess I'm keeping Netflix. Woohoo! Hahaha

Hope everyone is doing well and reaching goals. And what does your diet look like, Habbler? Somewhat interested.

For breakfast I will make a smoothie using diet cranberry or another low calorie juice as the base. I also throw in a scoop of whey protein because when I started this diet and quit eating fast food I realized I was getting no where near what I needed.
Breakfast smoothie
1 cup diet cranberry
1 cup frozen mixed fruit from walmart(strawberry, mango, pinapple, peach)
1/2 a cup of light yogurt(strawberry banana or raspberry)
1 scoop of whey.

Lunch I will make myself a sandwich. I like to buy a few different lunch meats to switch it up, and I also have a few different mustards because mustard tends to be much lower in calorie compared to other condiments. I got the ultra thin cheese thats only 40 calories a slice. Its enough to add flavor. I will also bring some baby carrots and a tablespoon of hummus.

I pack those orange crackers with the peanut butter, a nutri-grain bar, unsweetened applesauce, or other things I have around to snack on during the day too.

Dinner I will make a chicken breast. Sometimes I cut it up and grab a tortilla and lettuce and honey mustard and make my own snack wrap. I always include a salad with my dinner. Nothing fancy just the garden salad bag.

If I get hungry after dinner I will usually have a few more carrots and some hummus.

I give myself a cheat day on 1 of my 2 days off of work. I don't really go over the calories that Lose It suggested to me though. I've been to the Chinese buffet with my brother who isn't on a diet while on this diet on a cheat day. Just have to know whats bad for you and use portion control.
I'm 5'6 and I tried this once. I dropped weight (only muscle), was tired all the time and kinda moody. I think anything below 1800 for a guy is pretty extreme unless you really know what you are doing. Also once you go back to the normal intake your body starts filling in the gaps again and might gain undesired weight (depends on nutrition).

I eat a high protein, normal carb, low fat diet for years now and I feel great. I'm not a big guy but I do think I am in decent shape :bouncy:
