CAG Niche Backloggers Anonymous (Monster Hunter World!) [February]

Started using the Tonitrus, with the electricity buff in it's transformed state, that weapon is crazy good.

So I've mainly been holding a torch as my secondary, and using the flamesprayer for bosses. Sometimes I use the regular pistol if it's against slow enemies for a visceral attack. What left hand weapons do you guys use?

I know Gershomcz uses Ludwig's Holy Blade, so in it's transformed state, it takes two hands so he probably doesn't use one much. I've been thinking of switching to the repeater pistol for a bit more damage.

I've had better luck with the blunderbuss than the repeater pistol. I also mostly use a 2-handed weapon, so I don't use guns as much. Knockdown or one-shotting is working fine for me for the moment, outside of bosses.

I use the regular pistol but rarely unless agaisnt big enemies. For PvP pistols are essential though.

The chalices are really worth it once you get to depth 4 and 5. I was getting anywhere between 1-2 mil blood per chalice. Never knew I can get that much. Even at depth 3 I was getting like half a mil. They really weren't as hard as I thought they would be. Then again I always summoned someone.

Congrats to Gershomcz for getting the Bloodborne Plat!

Beat the Forbidden Woods boss, one try again. However, just as I thought I was starting to get good at this game, the Bloodlickers in the Castle humbled me back down. Those things are so hard to fight against.

Happy Holidays guys!

Haven't updated in a while, but I have been hard at work on Bloodborne. Managed to beat Logarius, Rom, The One Reborn, Amyglada, and Ebreitas. All first try except Logarius. Gonna hopefully finish before the month ends.

Congratulations,

Do you think we will move on to a new game?

Thanks!

It's up to you guys though, I thought this would be a more active month seeing as how many people suggested and voted it before hand. I also thought it would be a really though and long game, but it didn't seem to take too much work. So I'll probably finish it soon, and I know Gershomcz already plated it. So I have no problem moving on, just wanted to know if anyone else was still working on it and wanted more time. I know LNK and Elessar was pretty far through the last they mentioned.

I'm really bad at this whole back log thing. I was excited to play bloodborne like everyone else but I haven't even slapped the disc in the console. I've been to occupied with the winter event for Overwatch and Dishonored 2.

Wow, just won a pvp invasion battle, barely too, was all out of blood vials. It was really intense, way better than my first fight where I thought it was just an enemy and killed him in 2 seconds while all he did was back dash away.

Turns out I am way closer to finishing the game than I thought, only 3 boss fights left. Although I still have to do some dungeons and I'm gonna guess the boss fights will be the hardest yet. Looking at the trophy list, it doesn't seem too bad, but I've had my fill of Bloodborne already, so I don't want to run through the game 2 more times so soon. Have no idea how Gershomcz did it so fast.

Also, not too many big games are releasing in January, the big ones like Horizon and Persona 5 come later. A lot of the events like the Overwatch Winter one also ends, as well as Winter Break starting for students, so it might be the first free month in a while. Anyone want to pick a new game, or stick with Bloodborne so you finally have time to play it? I was also thinking of Final Fantasy 15 and God Eater 2 since Whoknows have been asking me to play it. I might skip the idea of a poll this time, and move straight to picking from the suggestions.

Oh I kind of cheated for the plat. I just kept reloading my save before the final boss and made different choices for the different endings.

I didn't buy it honestly, figured I'd wait the month out... and play so much more overwatch... and open so many boxes and not get any of the new skins...

so.. how about this, who wants to extend the month?

Do you play Overwatch on PS4? We have a community going and play often at nights, so come join us!

Honestly, I just read through the trophy guide, and Gershomcz's tip, and I think I could probably plat the game. I just have to get through the dungeon part, which is really tough. But with some coop with people here, it's possible. So I do want to extend it just so I can continue playing next month and not worry about another game. But it's up to the majority though.

I beat Rom after several tries. Shadows and Witch were both one try each.

Died way too many times to that stupid cannon to admit. I don't think I was level 40 by the time I reached the Witch. Somehow I'm 71 now.

As for extending, I don't mind. I don't know how much more I have to go, but I know I will need the chalice dungeons. My other short list atm are Grand Kingdom, Ray Gigant, and FF15.

Rom was pretty hard for me as well, but one of my main weapons is the Tonritus, and Rom was weak to bolt so it was a bit easier. As for where you are right now, you have approximately one third of the game's story left, since the last phase, blood moon has begun. But this is also the hardest, so take that into consideration.

Yeah, I still have to do the Chalice Dungeons, and they seem like another half of the game.

___

I feel like maybe having 3 choices isn't the best way to do it, since some games that we wouldn't really play may coincide, and that is why some games win out without having much support. And if a game is having a clear majority, then most people just pick it anyway without wanting to play it.

So I have a new idea I want to try out for this month. List the one game that you are most likely to play for January (or will spend the most time on), and if that game is not a JRPG, then list an additional JRPG you are most likely to play if you had to choose.

For example, mine would be:

Watch Dogs 2 (Main game)

Bloodborne (Main JRPG)

I can help out in any chalice since I did them all and they get really tough once you get to depth 3 or 4.

I been playing Fallout 4 so I'll continue that as main game.

I guess Pokémon Sun as Japanese game?

I'm also planning on playing watch dogs 2 after I get the plat for Dishonored 2. I'm almost half way through Pokemon Sun so I'll probably keep playing that next month as well. I'm trying to keep pace with my younger sister though who can't seem to comprehend type match ups and figuring out where you're supposed to go without the objective marker being 100% accurate though =_= so naturally I'm sure I won't have that game beaten until like March...

I play overwatch on Xbox one, that's where all my IRL friends are. Not that any of them are still playing =-/.

Oh pokemon.. My brother got it for Christmas as he's on the last island. I got it at launch... I'm at the third trial. Adulting sucks.

I've slowly been working my way thru Final Fantasy XV, but I know it'll take me more than a month to get thru it at my current pace. Hopefully I'll have more time this month. I think I played less than 20 hours of gaming in the whole month of December.

As for a JRPG, I'm also playing a little bit of Suikoden IV.

I didn't play Bloodborne that much. The lure of limited-time content in Overwatch was too great for me.

I'd vote for Final Fantasy XV for next month. I picked it up a week ago, and I'm only two hours into it. And leading up to Resident Evil 7 it would be a much different game.

I feel like I've done a lot, but still have a ways to go with this game.

Beat a boss in a snowy castle area, at a lower level 30s or low 40s, with the help of a guy. Joined the nearby covenant for the Chikage and picked up the Evelyn gun. So now I have 45 points in Bloodtinge.

I've played through a bunch of chalice dungeons (3 or 4) and beat a giant wolf boss. Most recently I've beaten the boss (felt overpowered against them) of the festering woods, after all the snake monsters.

Happy New Years guys!

I've been doing the Chalice Dungeons in Bloodborne, got through 4 now. Would be more than happy to coop with you guys to finish it together, since the lower depth ones I read are insanely hard.

If you see me on, I'm most likely doing a dungeon, I'll probably stream it too, so send me message and we can work together!

5 dungeons left. And they are all depth 4 and 5, so I know better than to do these on my own.

I wanted to ask, for coop in the dungeons, do I just use the beckoning bell as usual, or do I use that makeshift altar thing to make my dungeon into a coop dungeon?

Also, if anyone needs help with bosses, just tell me. I'm still working on the game so I'll be glad to assist in any of the previous bosses/parts that you have trouble with.

If you shoot me a message I can help. I have the app so get them directly to my cell even if I'm not on. Also yes, just ring the bell like usual.

I might ask for help when I get there.

Those bloodlickers gave me very little trouble. After my one death by them, I cleared the map of them. I hit 70ish now. I thought I was 71 before, but I was not.

I really need to beat Gravity Rush before number 2 comes out. So my gaming will hopefully look like this next month.

Mass Effect 1
Gravity Rush

Beat a depth 4 dungeon by myself, had to summon an NPC for the last boss. Wow, that was insanely hard, but it got me into the game again just as I was starting to feel bored with it.

I'm gonna make an announcement tonight on our next month's game, and it's going to be an entirely different approach to what we've done so far. So be on the look out!

So it seems like the main picks for the month are FFXV, Bloodborne, and Pokemon.

We're actually going to do a free month this time. How this works is simple. You can play any game that you choose, even one that is not niche. At the end of every week, you have to write a sentence or two describing what you did/accomplished in the game that you played most that week.

However, here's the catch, since we already have a Backlog Support group, and we specialize in Niche games, if you did not play a Niche game the most for the week, you must write an additional one to two sentences describing what you got through in that niche game. BUT, if you did not play ANY niche game at all, you must write why you did not get to playing a niche game for the week. And I expect good excuses!

If your most played game was a niche game, then you only have to write the first bit.

For Example:

BlackRockWaifu

Most played game: Overwatch

Got from level 120 to level 130, opened up 13 loot boxes and got the holiday Zarya emote. Also felt very salty about losing a bunch of competitive games.

Most played niche game: Final Fantasy XV

Made it through chapter 3, the scenery is really nice, and the gameplay is very fun and frantic. Cindy washing my car was my favorite moment.

Why I did not play any niche games this week (Only if you did not play any Niche games for the week!)

I had a lot of work this week, and did not feel in the mood. Also, the dog got sick and I had to take him to the vet. (Don't actually have a dog btw.)

So there's a little bit of an assignment to spice things up. Of course, when I say "must", everything is up to you whether or not to participate. I decided to do a little bit of operant conditioning, with some punishment thrown in to encourage niche gaming. The more you play, the less and less painful the writing you have to do. Of course, it's just a sentence or two, and more if you want to write more. We'll most likely go back to the normal routine of voting next month, unless this works out really well.

I'm also going to stream tonight. Going to try to solo a depth 4 dungeon, so you can see me get my ass clobbered. Also join in if you want once I reach a boss.

I might pause a lot since I use a guide to see a map of the dungeon first.

Edit: Broadcast ended, thanks for watching!

And here I was, about to ask what was wrong with your dog....

Also I would just like to say I appreciate and think it's really cool how much you do to try to bring people out and get them talking and playing more games together! Now to just force myself away from Overwatch and FFXIV for some backlog gaming.

I just picked up Final Fantasy 15 for the ps4 and probably playing a little pokem on the 3ds as my "take to work game" so hopefully I'll participate

Got to 2nd boss of depth 5 dungeon and got ripped apart. I'll be trying again tomorrow night, so if anyone can help, I really appreciate it!

Also, if anyone didn't understand this month's game pick, I'll paraphrase it.

Pretty much, play whatever game you want. If the game you play most in a week is a niche game, then write a little summary of what you've accomplished that week. If it isn't a niche game, write about that, but also write about what you did manage to play of the niche game, or if you didn't play any, why you didn't get to it.

Streaming Bloodborne again tonight, click the link since the embedded player does not work.

Edit: Done for the night! Thanks to all for watching! Got through a lot tonight!

Playing Castlevania Circle of the Moon as my portable game until I beat it.
Been a while since I have played this style of game and man did I really miss it.
There have been a few parts that made me rage quit because I got stuck but after passing them the game became easier for a bit.
Fought Camilla too early probably because when I beat her I leveled up 3 times lol.

Also am about for or 5 hours into final Fantasy 15, just went fishing for the first time.

Is it on the DS? I only remember playing a Castlevania game on the DS, and I think there were a few. I remember really liking it too, since you could level up and choose different weapons.

This one was the first one released in the GBA.
There are 3 for the GBA AND 3 FOR THE DS (I think) that are all old school castlevania, not the lords of Shadows stuff they have been doing the last few years

Oh! And titanfall 2. Which I started Monday and it's a lot shorter than I thought..cause I'm done. That's one down. I'm going to rip the recent backlog to threads :)

I'm going to play and finish, mafia 3, the talos principle, and dragonquest builders this month :)
Mafia 3 is a great game, my personal GOTY for 2016. I sold it a while back, but I always wanted to rebuy it to plat it.

Yeah, Titanfall 2 was short, but the campaign was excellent. The MP is great too, but I can't really play it for long periods of time without getting tired. But that's the good thing about recent games, short campaigns make for an easier backlog.

Re: Bloodborne:

Wet Nurse and Gehrman were ridiculously easy.

I set aside an hour or so for just Wet Nurse and she went down first try. She had nothing that seemed damaging except for her launcher slash.

And Gehrman was easy as hell to avoid, and fairly easy to stun. I went ahead and reloaded and killed him 4 more times.

I thought I was going to have a really hard time since I had a really hard time with Ebrietas.

So how long will the Chalice Dungeons take?

If you're going for just the trophy then the Chalice shouldn't take that long. I did 6 dungeons and each took about .5-1 hour.

Re: Bloodborne:

So how long will the Chalice Dungeons take?
Nice! I'll probably try to stream and finish the game tonight.

But yeah, the Chalice Dungeons don't take too long. I think there are like 9 or 10 dungeons total for the trophy, and it took me 3 nights or so. I also explored every little bit, and if you just go for the lever and boss, it should be really quick, but you might miss out on the ritual materials. The latter dungeons do get considerably harder though. The hardest one for me was the cursed dungeon, which halves your health. If you need any help with it, feel free to ask!

You actually don't need to do the cursed ones for the trophy. That's why I was surprised when BRW was much higher level than me.

I have been playing Fallout 4 this week. Currently on Winter break and trying to plat it before school starts again. So I'll be playing mostly that for the next few weeks this month.

For Japanese game, I just found my 3DS charger again so I'll be playing Sun whenever I'm just watching TV.

Stream is live, gonna try and finish up and plat Bloodborne tonight. Then it's time to learn Guilty Gear.

Stream over.

After getting to Hugh and realizing that I am way too low level to fight him I went exploring elsewhere and found a 2 headed dragon that, it turns out, I needed to beat so that I could get passed the final objects in the game.
Now to level grind while getting myself to 100% explored so that I can take on Hugh.

Once I beat this I'll start up pokemon moon on my 3ds as my take along game (but really 90%) of my gaming is on hand helds any more.

Finally, I platinumed Bloodborne! Was not very hard after all, especially seeing a 7% completion rate. I remember complaining about how hard the game was a month ago, and now I want to go and play more, might try the expansion soon. Also the first Backloggers Anonymous game I completed.

I also helped with some coop afterwards and beat the last chalice dungeon boss. I got rewarded with a Blood Rock, which was a major surprise seeing as how you were only supposed to obtain one per every new game. So if anyone needs help with the dungeons please tell me! I want to get more to upgrade and try a few more weapons out.
