CAG/PS3 Red Faction: Guerrilla Night [Thursdays @ 10pm EST]
In case I didn't let you guys know I sent my ps3 in this weekend to get it fixed, should be back something this week
Hope to see you in game soon kube!

Here's how the handicapping works, according to Volition:

First up, there is some handicapping, but not in every mode, and it’s not as prevalent as many of you are making it out to be. There is also one major rule to our handicapping. We never handicap a great player to be worse; we only attempt to help out the weaker players to be on a more competitive playing field.

Siege = No handicapping
CTF = Low handicapping
All other modes = Medium handicapping

In order for handicapping to kick in, you have to be pretty far ahead. At that point, a percentage of handicapping will start, which means that when the score is close, handicapping does much less. For example, if we set handicapping to kick in when one team is winning by 40 points, it starts to ramp up from 20% of the full handicapping values, and continue moving all the way up to 100% if the losing team continues to do poorly (they would have to be doing VERY poorly for 100%).

The main reason for this is to keep the game fun and exciting. Just like how most racing games have rubberbanding, or respawn time changes, handicapping is a norm within gaming. Think of how many times you were coming down to the final kills in a Team Anarchy game, or the last few points are adding up in Damage Control, and your team barely squeaks by for a win? Those situations drive your adrenaline and in turn, you enjoy the game much more.

The stats affected by handicapping are the following, and they are all extremely minimal. Remember that this is only given to a weaker player, since we do not touch the stats of the winning players.

- Total HP
- Time before Health Regeneration starts
- Movement Speed
- Reload Speed

The goal of handicapping is not to change the outcome of the game, but to make it fun to both win and lose, as stated above. A close match that comes down to the wire is always more exciting than a pure blowout. Also, it will rarely ever affect the actual Win/Loss outcome, because two close players/teams will never feel the effects of handicapping.

We are also planning on eventually adding a “Pro” or “Hardcore” playlist (Still trying to come up with a good name) specifically with rules drawn from one (or a combination) of the MP competitive ladder tournaments. This will of course have handicapping turned off. As always, you can also play a Custom Match and turn handicapping off as well, and still gain XP.

Is that from Clue? I loved that movie and it needs to come out on Blu-ray.
Good games guys, but why the sudden silence?
I'm feeling a little meh today.

Because we went off script. We were doing fine until Randy flubbed that line and went with and before I knew it, all our chatter was pure improv. Look, I work damn hard all week getting into character and working with the scripts I get sent each week. To just go off script like that is dis-respectable to those of us who work real hard to make our performance seem natural.

Uh... I guess I got so quiet because... I've got no clue. Maybe I ran out of things to say. Also we got surrounded by a cloud of meh around the middle of the game night.
The pre-made/pre-baked pizza crusts are usually disappointing (and filled with creepy ingredients) but I'm a big fan of good, pre-made pizza dough. I've made some really freakin' tasty pizzas with the refrigerated multigrain dough from Whole Foods: all natural, bakes up perfectly and crispy on the outside, and holds up to toppings really nicely. Whatever you do, you've got to bake that shit on a pizza stone, though; save the cookie sheet for cookies.
I'm going to have to pick up some of that dough for this week. I'm still feeling pretty lazy after this weekend.

fuck it! We'll do it live!
it also feels a bit meh to lose all night X_X
Team balance is definitely something we need to work on more actively but I did notice you weren't in top form tonight either.

Yes, pick up your dough..... I will still defeat you in our PIZZA DUEL 2010!!!! :bomb:

Ya this usually happens when I play a lot of mw2 all week, then try to rfg. doesn't work well. :p

The clip is... "I was so full of rage tonight" was just my explanation of why I turned off the mic.

Were you full of rage because Metaly and I complained about your Duke Nuke'em soundboard thing?

A quiet RF:G night, what the hell? Glad I didn't show up ;). Did the developers show? If he/she did I'm sure you guys had some gameplay suggestions if there ever is a RF:G2.

No, I didn't even know you guys did that.

No, though we should totally write out suggestions to email them from a group of hardcore RFG fans.

Is anyone (not Randy since its Japanese ;)) interested in White Knight Chronicles? Giant Bomb has a long interview where they show off the 4 player coop quests, its looks pretty cool. The game doesn't have the greatest reputation based on the Japanese release, but anything 4p coop can't be completely terrible.

I was really interested in it... 2 years ago when it was announced. I'm kinda off RPGs, but who knows. Definitely won't be a day one for me though, I know that.

Also, my mom wants to know why she isn't a tag for the thread anymore.

White Knight Chronicles looks sort of interesting. From what I saw, the online reminds me of Diablo or FF12 (if that were online). I thought this was going to be a pretty story-heavy, FF-style single player RPG, though. Is there a relationship between the single player and multiplayer modes?

I'm very interested. Our version should be better than the Japanese release, since they've been improving it since then.

You create a character and use him online, and he's also a side-character in the main story that you can use if you want.

4-player co-op sounds like fun (and insanely difficult to schedule) but it's definitely not my cup of tea. I barely made it through the trailer.

Unrelated, but on my mind because I'm stuck in a hotel room and bored: does anyone still use AIM or Google Talk? I just installed the new version of Pidgin and I'm updating my buddy lists.

I added Allah, Freaky, Kube, Metaly, Creid, Stranded, and XXX based on the info in your CAG profiles. Anyone else wanna be my buddy?

My aim is my user name here, though I rarely turn it on. And I swear you added me (or something) on google talk before, at least someone with your email wanted to chat with me (or it told me something like that) when I logged into my gmail account... :/

Also, you have a d message if you haven't seen it already... hint, it's about singstar at newegg.

I'm on AIM/YIM/Google constantly so take your pick. My Gmail is pretty easy to figure out; you don't even have to be a cyberterrorist like Randy.
Seriously, the last time my computer crashed, it said "0wn3d by r4nDy_wr3kk3d"

But only IM me if you're sharing your buddy system partner for Thursday! NO CLONES. :nottalking:

Yeah, if I'm home, I'm on AIM. Added you.

I no longer use any chat clients except for irc, sorry. But as a consolation prize here is some food.

Blueberry Strudel

Cherry Almond Twist

Almond biscotti w/ chocolate drizzle

I reformatted my PC recently, and I have yet to reinstall AIM. I knew something didn't feel right with my computer... I'll install it then add you guys. :)

I have pidgin installed, but I think the only time I have used it in the last year is when I was trying to figure out why my friend could not connect to my Command & Conquer game.

We should totally get someone with a shell account to host a bot so we can have a QFB channel on some irc channel!
Soooooooooo Excitebots tonight?
I believe there is a clan match at 10, but after that I'll be up for it. I even unlocked all the tracks .

EDIT: I won't be around either.

I'm in PA again tonight so I'm out. Sorry.

Yes, please.

With all the talk about IMs... if any of the regulars (if you have to ask yourself if you are one... you aren't ) want a google wave invite let me know and I'll send you one.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a PSP next month but with all the fucking nonsense surrounding all the types of PSPs available I thought I'd ask you guys what you recommend I buy. Any suggestions?

Seeing as mine just got in to day I would recommend a 3000. None of the mentioned screen problems have been noticeable and think that the screen looks great so far. I have been rather enjoying it for the 5 hours that I have had it.

Half-Minute Hero is an awesome game. Even you are not much into RPGs it should still appeal because of how well made and humorous it is. The game has a great style, is very fun to play and makes fun of many an RPG trope.

Ha, I am considering getting the system (almost) just to play Final Fantasy Tactics again for the 1000000th time but with the proper translation for once, so yes I am into rpgs.

I think I know what you are implying XXX but I don't know much about the system except that I refuse to get the GO. So I wouldn't even know where to begin if I wanted to be a RENEGADE.

I've had a PSP-1000 since launch day and it's always worked flawlessly.

I toyed with upgrading to a 2000-model for the Skype support but ultimately decided to pass. I had a GO on pre-order, as well, but elected to cancel after the UMD conversion rumors didn't pan out.

I don't steal videogames so custom firmware was never really a selling point for me.

The PSP-2000 is lighter than the 1000, supports Skype with an external headset, and has more RAM so you get some quicker loading times. The 3000 has the same RAM (I'm almost certain), the aforementioned brighter screen, and has an integrated Skype microphone.

This crazy chart spells out the differences between all of the models.

The PSP 2000 & 3000 aren't all that different, except for the aforementioned integrated mic for the latter. The 1000 is crazy heavy in comparison to both the slimmer model PSPs, and won't cramp your hands like the fatty does, so you can't go wrong with either the 2/3-000. Just don't get that abortion of a PSP called GO ;)
