CAG Socom Thread-SONY SHUTTING DOWN SERVERS AUGUST 31 for S1-CA Tue&Sun10pmEST
Damn condor get back soon! We havent had the whole crew on in almost a month now
I know man, I've been itching to play too. At least I got those 15 minutes last Friday to hold me over.

First it was this exam I was studying for, so all my free time was spent on that. I passed it though, so it was worth it. We also had family stay with us for a while, so we spent time going out and watching movies. And this weekend I'm heading down to NYC to visit my family. After I get back on Sunday though, I should be back to joining you guys.

Patch 1.42 Update Posted by SOCOM: Confrontation Online Team

Patch 1.42 is in final QA. We are targeting a release late next week, but this may change if any issues arise. Patch 1.42 addresses the following issues:

 • Fixed an issue where players were spawning in incorrect locations.
 • Fixed an issue where players who were voted out of a game were not removed from the game until the end of the round.
 • Addressed an issue where the ragdoll would sometimes receive extreme values.
 • Added some bandwidth optimizations to improve the overall on-line experience, especially under less than ideal network conditions. More bandwidth optimizations to come in future updates.
Patch 1.42 is an incremental patch which will be about 17MB for people who already have patch 1.41 installed.

We've been working in parallel on patch 1.50. We'll have some exciting new information about patch 1.50 next week.

You can comment on this post here.

Clan ladders in 1.50?????

The ragdoll comment reminds me that one of the VIPs in that Escort game yesterday swam out of the river and just kept swimming straight through the air. He made it about halfway up the hill. It was pretty amazing.
Option what button enables your motion sensor?
It's default "Six Shooter". L2 is the motion sensor enable button.

How I use it is I have my controller usually tilted down most of the time. So whenever I hold L2 I go into the ducking position as opposed to normal crouching.

I really prefer this method because when I have motion sensor on all the time, I tend to be in ducking position many times, and it just so happens you can't fire while in this position. This has led me to many a death.

I find it weird though it's only in the Six Shooter controller preset.

And excellent news about the patch, I also will try to play tonight. Obviously I don't have anything better to do than to play Socom on a Friday night.

ya i got stiffed and my ps3 is still in transit hasnt departed Ct oh well. ill be on monday night i guess really lame so much for 3 day select shipping boo

You're in Brooklyn, right MD? You're only about 2 hours or so from Windsor Locks...go pick it up!

The UPS depot at Bradley Airport has a customer pickup window...not sure if they work weekends, though.

Has there been an update on whether we will see a 'map pack' anytime soon? I'm surprised we haven't heard of anything yet...

mdamore, I feel for you man.

Ah, good few games last night with you guys. Also, why do all the bad glitches happen to me in this game.
1) Yet again, when I went to shoot my gun at one point when I was the final survivor on the team my gun disappeared and did nothing when I pulled the trigger.
2) CAG v CAG match with Smog vs Me I could not jump over the 1 inch ledge in front of me to get Smog before he fled the plant site cutting crucial time and leaving me with like 2 seconds to defuse.

Argh!

I've gotten used to having my good and bad days in this... and then there's days where you run into team FAMAS. :hot:

Also I think this game messes up my mic after a while. Gotta remember to reboot afterward.

Who knew the M87ELR doubled as a shotgun lol, if only there was a way to make that game not count, that was insane. We have been having really good turnout this week, hopefully that keeps up for tonight, and then md's triumphant return on monday and tuesday.

what about thursday night too

Just finished a little warmup round of respawns, the last two rounds going 12-5 and 12-4. Too bad that will mean next to nothing when its time to move into ranked rooms.

wish i could be there tonight but alas i need to get some sleep I start working again tomorrow then im doin a travel job for a few days so im gonna get in as much as i can.
I hope this ps3 lasts longer than the other one i had. im thinking it should since i wont have as much time on my hands and since i have the Psn version now i wont burn the laser out with Socom like the last one.
i would like to play 2nite
Check back aroound 10 to find the room or if you have a clan member or Cag on your friends list just follow them
I'll be on, but not till after 10, when family guy and american dad are over.
Fun games, too bad there weren't many on. I guess everyone got burned out over the last few days?

Nice plant that one round, starmask. I think I was spectating flesh for a while and switched over to you when he got killed and you're already across the whole map and planting the bomb. That was a nice surprise.

That round may have been my worst round I have ever played in Socom. I was literally standing on the roof of the building where you guys plant. For some reason I thought gold had the bomb, so when it said bomb planted I ran to the other side of the map, only to have gold see me and tell me that I was going the wrong direction...

I should be on tonight, looking forward to playing some more. I wasn't able to make it Sunday since I just switched to cable over the weekend. Had to wait for my new wireless router from Amazon on Monday since my old router crapped out on me.

I love this game because good strategy can over come both skill and player number difference. The last game I was in last night was a perfect example. My team, got two plants in the first two rounds (thank you md for the gift plant). We then lost the next two rounds after smog lagged out, but only one was by a plant. For the last four rounds we were down 2 people, 7v5. After we got our two plants, the other team stayed back and played conservative. So our team learned and we drew rounds 5&6. The last round the other team needed a plant, I knew that, so when I was the last person alive, I ran and stood on the bomb plant. Killed one, and then ate a grenade. Victory for our team because of good strategy.

P.S. Is there anything more satisfying then getting behind a team and knifing their snipers? I don't think there is.
P.S. Is there anything more satisfying then getting behind a team and knifing their snipers? I don't think there is.
I would find it satisfying if I didn't get killed by them in the first place, lol.

The best game for me last night was an extract mission on Fallen. It was 7 people on our side, 8 on theirs. We started out on the Commando side and pretty much got our butts handed to us the first 4 games. We thought we were done, and so did the 3 people that dropped out from our team. MD had the brilliant idea of taking the VIP's down under the small bridge in the water while Smog and I held the middle bridge. Smog and I picked them off one by one until somebody came by and knifed us both in the back. With about 2 minutes to go, the other team finally realized the VIP's were in the water and tried to go retrieve them. I was cracking up the whole time hearing the Commandos say "follow me" followed by MD's "(follow me in Merc language)". Needless to say, we came back and tied it. Though they gave the other team the win even though they had killed 2 VIP's, oh well... I think this one and the one with "Randy's spot" on Frostfire are on my top 5 matches played.

Thats in my top 5 too. That was so much fun watching that after we died.

Got the strategy guide in the mail today. So I will finally know which building is the real "Red Room"

Looking forward to hearing how the guide is. I'd love to finally get all the location names down so I can actually start calling out targets. I was looking at the maps on that Silo site and they aren't labeled too well.

Also no, there is nothing better than knifing a sniper in the back. :)

fun games indeed fellas. I kinda felt bad doin that water gimmick because of the wait, but it worked. I wanted them to blow the Stone bridge that second time to see if the rubble would kill the hostages .

Kniving is always Satisfying the 206th gives the same smile as the first .
I love this game because good strategy can over come both skill and player number difference.
I don't think any amount of strategy could overcome my horrid aim, which was even worse on Sunday night than normal. The game that you and I had (not the one that you ran by me on the way to the wrong plant site) where I watched Metaly run right in front of me. Missed him with 30+ bullets only to have him turn around and take me out was absolutely sad.

The rounds that I got in last night were a blast. Especially the first round in the 16x16 Breech in which Smog and I spawned at the top of a building by the crossroads big map street. They just kept running down the street right at us for three of the easiest kills I've ever had. That was way fun.

I hope to get some time on tonight. My bride is going to Texas tomorrow morning for five days, so I'm not sure. (This most likely will be equal to md's absence last night)

Thanks for the invite guys. I'm super happy I actually got an mvp on that 32 player map.

Sorry I had to leave early. I was toying around with different ps3 sound setups, and i screwed one up and had to restart during the quick match.

I think I can play a little better since I just got Dolby Headphone on my side. I could actually tell where people were coming from during the first couple games.

Definitely look forward to more matches.

Which headphones did you get? I've been looking for a good pair and ended up just getting some cheap Sennheisser ones to hold me over.

I'm actually running this setup.

Sony MDR-7506 -> Astro A40 Mixamp -> TOSlink/Optical Cable -> PS3

As for the headset, it's just the included Socom headset in microphone mode. Surprisingly it picks up every little sound. Right now I'm waiting for Sony to patch the headset so I can finally use the HQ at a higher volume.

I was told you sent me a message last night Goldbug. Sorry I couldn't make it. Cousins were over, they wanted to try out some PS3 games last night.
I love this game because good strategy can over come both skill and player number difference.
Wish I could have played with you guys last night but after waiting 40 minutes I went ahead and just started a quick match. I then proceeded to almost get voted out when I was the last commando because I was hanging back at our base waiting for them to try and plant. I prevented them from planting and ended up killing more mercenaries than the other 14 people combined on my team but we still lost since my teammates had only killed 2 of them and I got swamped. Next round the jackasses kept walking in front of me while I was trying to snipe so that I picked 1 enemy off and then got counter-sniped. So, yes, teamwork is crucial......
I finally got off when for the umpteenth time I had to shut down my PS3 because it froze with the darkened screen when I tried to pull up my in-game XMB. Anyone know how to get out of that?

Sounds cool. I have X4's for my 360 that I can use for the PS3 as well but the headset is not compatible so I don't use them when I play SOCOM. BTW, does SOCOM have directional audio because I know it makes a big difference for COD.

You know, I'm not exactly quite sure. I had DH turned on during one of the matches and I could've sworn I could tell exactly what direction someone was coming/shooting from. But then again, I'm new to Dolby Surround and I'm not exactly sure if it's the headphones or my ears playing tricks on me. If I could test this out with someone that would be great.

edit: I'm looking at several reviews online and some say there's 5.1 specifically Dolby Digital. Anyone with an actual 5.1 setup care to chime in about this?

No worries. I saw you were on and the more CAGs the better.

Patch 1.42 has made it through the QA process and is ready to be released. It will be deployed after 2 a.m. (Pacific Time) on April 2nd.

As we announced last week, the patch will address the following issues:

 • Fixed an issue where players were spawning in incorrect locations.
 • Fixed an issue where players who were voted out of a game were not removed from the game until the end of the round.
 • Addressed an issue where the ragdoll would sometimes receive extreme values.

As we also mentioned last week, we have already been working on Patch 1.5. We will give you more details on that later this week.

Did they say somewhere this was incremental? I was hoping to play tonight and don't want another 90-minute megapatch.

Patch 1.5 adding cross-team mandatory text chat and spectator x-ray vision. CONFIRMED.

I'm doing my part to shield you guys from the first grenade the other team throws across the map 10 seconds into the round. If I may say so I think I did an exceptional job yesterday.
We need to start using some teamwork or something. We got raped yesterday
i think the strat guide is getting to you Rambo

Im stoked!

Best patch yet? As far as general usability goes, at least.

I can't believe they're finally adding sorting to the channel list. I cannot think of literally a single reason why it seemingly does not sort at all. I would think that would actually be harder to set up when coding the menus. Although that's all sort of moot now that they have game joining from the friends list. Woo!
