CAG Star Trek Online Fleet/game discussion thread

So I got back in this morning and hope to take advantage of this weekend xp. I'm still only a lieutenant or something so it'll be awhile. I'm also still sporting the ship from the GS preorder with the original series design. Is there a good ship in the c-store that might be worth purchasing to help me level up?

You probably won't see much of an XP increase just from changing your ship since they're all really minor improvements over the default light cruiser. In fact, the TOS Constitution is arguably the best of the three since it comes with the scaling phasers, so you're already ahead of the curve there.

Actually, now that I think more about it, can the NX Enterprise equip dual cannons? Because that might help kill stuff faster.

Still, before you know it you'll be promoted and the tier 1 ships will be obsolete anyway, so I'd say just save your money.

I'm so rusty that I just kept hitting the "all weapons" button in an engagement. I forgot whatever I had and the buttons to use. I'll try to check when I log in later tonight.

But, all the patching has improving things quite a bit since I was last on which was at least 6-8mos ago.

I am such a fuckING idiot..........deleted the S-Weapons from my runabout. thinking S meant STANDARD/SIMPLE/SHUTTLE.

:_(

I think Metaly I think I will go ahead and get the refit defiant ..but I was so use to my extra engineers getting me out of a jam. :(

I was so lost last nite. I was trying to do the trade mission on Starbase 39 between the Ferengi and 2 other races and it failed on me twice right after I review the trade law and confronted the Ferengi. I also got manhandled whenever I fought in the space sector battles. I loaded out with Mark 2 Quantum torpedoes and I think Type IV phasers but still had to respawn a lot. Maybe because there was only a handful of others at that late hr.

Is there an easier way to find where people are that you need to contact on different systems? I have a bunch of in progress missions that I can't remember where some people are. Also is there a way to set navigation for different sectors or some way to pick a farther destination than just within your sector?

Well last night I took my refit Defiant out for a spin. The cloak hit and run tactic defiantly gives me the advantage. I took on some Jem'hedar warships with no problems at all. I need to test the ship against the borg and romulans next.

As it is, you have to rough it a bit with the navigation. The only way to figure out where to go is to consult your mission journal "J" and looking at the mission description. It will say where the mission is in bright text at the end of the description (something like Drozana System in Eta Eridani Sector Block, for example). Remember this info. Second, consult your galaxy map "M" and look for the proper sector block. Third, navigate to the appropriate sector block one adjoining sector at a time (e.g. to get to Zeta Andromedae from Sirius you need to go to Beta Ursae first and then navigate to Zeta And.). Finally, you can navigate to the system once you arrive at the correct sector.

Sorry if that sounded really basic, I'm just trying to be thorough. Hope it helps.

On a separate note, I think I might buy myself the USS Andy Dick for my sci since I'm not feeling any of the t5 sci ships. I think I might run Tachyon Beam 3 and DBBs. Use my sci abilities to aid my pew pew. I've done the whole cannon thing, thinking the DBB setup might be fun.

On yet another separate note, I'm post number 1000 on this thread. Wooo! *Throws a dance party*

That made perfect sense and it jogged my memory back to how it had to be done. There are a certain "talk to this admiral" or stuff like like that that I can't remember where they are located. That kinda bugs me.

Breen featured episodes are in "reruns" starting later this week, meaning you can get the Breen BOff if you missed it before, along with a brand new set of rewards. Check it out here unless you want to be surprised.

Spoiler: It's not SNB-proof hull plating. :cry::cold:

one of the rewards somewhere in there is also a rapid fire transphasic torpedo launcher (I'm guess free high yield or perhaps a really low cooldown timer).

Tonight's the last night to pick up a Breen bridge officer. You can stock up on extras (for future toons or sales) if you don't commission him and either send him to yourself or post him on the exchange. You can only have 1 on your candidate/commissioned officers list which is why you have to mail it to get more. Devidians rerun starts tomorrow.

I take it I have to play the entire season all over again just to get the breen officer right? Kinda of dumb that it's only for a certain time frame then you have to wait til it comes back on a rerun to get it. I finish the reman season and never got my reman officer :(

No, you only have to play the final mission "Cold Storage" in order the get the breen. Simply accept the mission in mission replay and complete it.

They also released a little info on the devidians rerun, including a non-unique (meaning you can own more than 1) phase-shifted personal shield. Of course, the pimp cane will make its return as well.

Shields, huh... I guess I'll check it out.

From the Tribble patch notes:

The mission “A Difficult[y] Decision” will autocomplete for anyone that has had it stuck in their mission journal.

OMG... I've had that glitched in my mission log since Season 1 or whenever. Best patch ever.

Tons of great info in May's engineering report. There's too much to quote all of it here, but I'll just say Season 4 keeps sounding better and better. It also has a tentative release date of July 7.

Also, last week I discovered sort of a hidden gem (at least for me) for science officers: the Borg Medical Analyzer kit. It's the standard Medic kit but instead of Triage III you have the ridiculously good Tachyon Harmonic III, which is probably the best ground ability. In case you're not familiar with it, it's AoE knockdown/expose and does a decent amount of shield damage. With this kit you can expose the crap out of entire squads (usually 2-3 exposes per use) and still be an effective healer.

They're a bit pricey on the exchange but they also drop from one of the bosses in The Cure. I highly recommend it.

Dstahl wrote a sort of follow-up post to the latest engineering report, explaining how the team spends a lot of time working on behind-the-scenes stuff that's not as exciting as new content but nevertheless helps improve the game. It's always nice to hear that they're constantly optimizing the game as well as adding new features, but there's also this little reassuring note at the end:

Don't let the news or other worries get you down. STO is doing very well as a game and I'm not going anywhere and the team is rock solid behind making this game more awesome every day.

The last I heard, STO was turning a profit and enjoying a healthy playerbase, so I'm optimistic about its future. I'm actually less worred now than I was when the original EP left (and we all know how that worked out). Hopefully this sale and any eventual acquisition won't disturb their workflow too much. And honestly, I think getting away from Atari might be a good thing.

A friendly reminder to everyone that this is the last night for the devidian replay. The pimp canes are NOT unique so you can outfit your BOFFs with them. Reman reruns starts tomorrow morning and there are a couple of bonus rewards (in addition to the Reman BOFF limited reward). You can only have 1 of those and you can't sell/mail that.

Weeeell look who I ran into last night at the Deferi patrol.

Just 1-2 to go! Probably 2. I think I killed this one before.

That's one of the ultra-rare capital ships that sometimes hang out in the Breen daily missions. I think I've only seen them twice ever, and we used to do those dailies pretty religiously.

It's for an accolade. They all just drop standard stuff. You can force spawns if you enter, fly around to see if it's there, leave if it's not, and repeat. Here are the ships maps, just click on the ship name to see their flight paths: http://www.stowiki.org/Breen_Capital_Ship . Just look at those areas and leave and come back if you don't see them.

STO is 3.75 on steam for the next 24 hrs. They may have ran out of CD keys but are still selling it. Folks on the STO board got 500 ($6.25) Cstore points with their CD keys. So buying this is if you don't already own it is a kinda no brainer.

You also get the Steam phaser turret that is exclusive to Steam as well.

Oh and the Del Taco shuttle is avilable if you buy a ship this weekend. But the guys on the STO forums say you can decomissions a Cstore ship then reclaim it and you'll get the shuttle pet.

Well I tried the "remastered" Doomsday Machine mission. It was ok. It's a bit glitchy though trying to get them to remote control your character. Got that torpedo and it's ok I guess.

Except it's a chinese company who bought them out. Asian free-to-play tend to have terrible stores that makes the game lopsided. The few that don't still have shitty stores as they care more about money than the actual game.

Stores? ;)

anyone have something that can make my retrofitted defiant turn a hell of a lot faster?
oh btw, I dumped a lot of stuff all over the place because I didn't have access to dump resources :( sorry guild leader!
Yeah, stores you can buy stuff for your in game characters. Like LOTRO Store where you can buy experience tomes and such.
Well hopefully it will be exactly where you can earn the stuff in game without having to drop a dime.

I think I still have the retrofitted defiant as one of my ships. Not sure what kind of gear I have in it though. Been so long since I've played with that ship that I barely remember what I had for it.

Never mind, apparently I gave all my kit for that ship to my brother. Who no longer plays the game.

If you haven't already, make sure you max the Retrofit Escort Captain skill, along with all the other Escort Captain skills and Starship Combat Maneuvers. There's also an engineering console that increases turn rate but the name escapes me right now.

I recently switched my sci captain to an advanced escort without respec'ing and it definitely feels sluggish compared to when I fly one using my tactical captain, who is fully spec'ed for it. So hopefully it's just a matter of reallocating some skill points for you.

My Def-R turns great and I run engines at the minimum power setting. As metaly said, make sure you're spec'ed into escorts all the way to retro escorts, along with combat manuevers. Putting skill points in engine efficiency and engine performance will raise your engine power levels without having to raise the engine power setting, which ups your turnrate as well. Finally, the console you're referring to is the RCS Accelerator. I highly recommend against using one of these on your Def-R as there are much more important consoles to use on an escort's engineering slots.

Crazzzyyyyyy Season 4 patch notes for Tribble. They had to roll back the update because of a database problem, but you can still read the notes. There's a lot of stuff explaining ability changes and how the new ground combat will work.

In particular, this sounds cool:

 • Borg now adapt to your weapons on a per-player, by energy type basis.
 • Use a new Frequency Remodulator to clear Borg adaptation to your ground weapons (or fight hand-to-hand).
 • The Frequency Modulator is available in your ship replicator
Also this... amazing!

 • Vascular Regenerator will now properly extinguish a plasma fire DoT on you or your allies.
 • Fire Extinguisher and Breen CRM 2000 will now extinguish plasma fires from plasma grenades.
:hot::hot::hot:

Hey guys the first build of season 4 hit tribble. I only had time to play it a bit but the ground combat is much more fun. It should make ground portions of missions go by in a flash.

If it's a fairly opened planet, I usually make a rush for it around all the mobs on the main road and head towards where I am suppose to be.

I downloaded the Tribble patch and have been debating trying it out. I'm really eager to see the shooter mode but part of me just wants to wait for the official launch.

Season 4 is going to take like a month to hit holodeck. But if you can wait that long more power to you.

I'll just leave this here:
