CAG Star Trek Online Fleet/game discussion thread

Thanks for getting me linked, I had PM'ed you the charname@userid I thought but in any case I'm good now. Not sure how much I will be on this weekend, as I have 2 characters I'm working through now. Does anybody know what times they might be on? I will probably be on late tonight, and maybe tomorrow night as well.

The over 3 feet of snow owned my net connection, so my iPhone is all I got. Wish I could jack it's net connection. Hopefully I will be back tomorrow or if I'm lucky late tonight. I do still have electricity tho!

jp, Thanks for trying to invite me. I saw Eastx last night and he invited me to the fleet. It's definitely a blast to play especially with others and the mini-community within a community. Can you tell this is my first MMO? Anyhow, hope to see more CAGs online and delve a little deeper into the interesting missions.

BTW, Eastx, I got my constitution ship to work thanks for the tips. Can't wait to use it tonight instead of that generic Reliant cruiser.

Is your iPhone not jailbroken? I used mine all night last night, with the tethering option enabled through a hack. Loaded pretty well.

Nah it's not jailbroken. I thought the 3GS has tethering enabled? I just don't know how to use that stuff.

AT&T keeps pushing back the official option availability for the iPhone. The device can actually do it, it's just being delayed by AT&T. Probably because they fear their network can't take the traffic if people use the option. This means they will probably charge for the option so they can account for "upgrades to the network" which wont happen. The option is there, but the updates that are pushed out through Apple for AT&T have disabled the option. Don't have to have the 3GS either, the 3G can do it as well.

Yup, I bet that's exactly their fear. Afterall, if all you do is email, you cam cancel your net provider and rape the AT&T network. It's all good. I'm working thru ME1 now, so not all is lost. I do miss STO badly tho. An entire weekend lost really sucks. Would've made admiral :(

edit: of course by admiral I mean Khan's take on the word

I'm going to try and hit captain this weekend. Doubt it will happen but I'm going to try. It'd be easier if my Uverse connection didn't keep crapping out.

I was hoping the Constitution Class would hold me over until level 21, but it seems the Tier 2 ships are better in general. Too bad, 'cause the original's the prettiest in my eyes.

Anyone know of any guides to skills and what they mean? I've only played for a couple of hours but I find it really confusing. I feel like I'm just flipping a coin when it comes to skill selection.

I hate learning new MMO stuff....:(

How much are the del taco codes going for? I gave my last batch away but have a few more that I can maybe give away as a contest or something. Or for drink money?

I love the Exchange. I've been throwing so much junk I don't want onto there and it's so exciting to see "you got paid!" pop up. It's the eBay of the future.

Anyone know if you get spent skill points back when you discharge a bridge officer? I decided I have too many Andorians on my crew, but I've already leveled some of their skills. It would be nice if I could transfer the points over to their replacement.

There was one guy selling them on ebay for $3.50.

There are quite a few good threads on the offical forums. I found some good links in the main STO thread at Gamers with Jobs.

Metaly: You don't get spent skill points back. I would wait until you start hoarding them (it happens naturally) before disposing of crew. Also "purple" crew have better ground skills (i.e. superior peak health, superior telepathy) and crap like that. You can replace them later with those guys.

PM for codes from deltaco. Only have 2 so first ones get em. Will update this post when they are gone.

*edit: all gone.

Good to know, thanks. I guess I should look forward to swapping crew around a bunch. I think I already have a couple on deck.

Is it possible to transfer leveled up abilities from old crewmembers to new, or will I have to level them up again?

Just some quick ideas...

uniformideas.jpg

See how at first it looks like a typical uniform, but the green trim ties them all together? It doesn't shout, "hey, we're a fleet!" as much as using the main shirt color, but I think it works.

Also yeah, it's only got the green, not orange. I realized after took these that I should have used the bright orange comm badge/rank insignia. :)

Anyway, I didn't mean to crash your uniform meeting. You just got me thinking.

Well, that does sort of show how multiple uniform designs could be used for the fleet without losing the overall look. IMO your idea to use standard Star Trek colors as the main uniform colors doesn't match well with the CAG Fleet concept, but we'll see what everyone thinks.

Here's my current uniform design for all to see:

This would be the leader's uniform, with officers looking the same except for having long pants that cover the boot tops. Opinions everybody?

My thought on the uniforms is the following (if just to spur discussion):

1) The primary color should be the color of your profession (science, engy, tactical). This is to more easily identify and coordinate ground combat. A lot of abilities require you to be near someone and it's a lot easier to identify by the profession color than a name tag in an intense battle.

2) Ancillary colors should be the "uniform" colors. I would propose using some of the more stylish uniforms to achieve this effect. If you want, I can do some iterations to give a visual to my idea.

3) While it may be nice to promote form over function, ultimately we would want something that doesn't harm our ability to vaporize our enemies in an intense ground campaign. So we should focus on that.

There you go, my 3 cents.

I haven't tried a uniform yet that didn't have my profession color, but does the armor you're wearing default to your profession color?

In a ground campaign, I would think everybody would be wearing armor, and if the armor defaults to your profession color, it would make the uniform color moot.

Yes, I believe the armor does default to your profession color, but I'm not 100%. I suspect we will be hiding armor from our characters so only uniforms show, in which case the profession color becomes relevant.

Is there an option to hide armor? I looked for it the other day and couldn't find one at all, which leads me to think that:

I suspect they don't allow you to hide your armor, so in PVP instances, you'll be able to tell your opponent's profession (assuming there's ground PVP, I haven't PVP'd at all yet).

If you right click the Armor itself, you should have an option to hide it.

Cool. I've been wanting to hide the armor anyway. All the stuff I've found looks like bad 80's jazzercise spandex.

In that case, maybe we do need profession-specific fleet uniforms, as starkillr suggested...

Cool, I like my star fleet uniforms way more then the armor I've found. Also I made a trip to Del Taco and picked up a shuttle code. So score for me.

If anyone has a code from deltaco, can they PM me one please? I am not sure what I can offer back. I have a lot of wow codes and such, which aren't really in demand. *shrug*

Yea, my buddie and I are looking for a couple of Del Taco codes too.
We went there to get some and we got "normal" cups.
We asked them about it and they said that some guy came in the day before and bought the last 8 sleeves thay had.
Yes.... They said he bought the last 8 SLEEVES!
Why are all you Del Taco code beggars not joining the CAG Fleet?
I would, if I had a code to try it out. I don't have a deltaco here :p

Long time wow player who is currently bored - I just want to test before I buy. I am really close to buying, though.

This damn game is making my backlog worse. I'm still trying to gun for that Tier 3 ship (my co-workers already got 'em--one has T4 ship), but haven't had as much time to game lately, so whatever time I do spend goes into STO. :p

There are people selling them on ebay for twice what you'd pay for them at a del taco. Probably one of those guys bought them :joystick:

Science vessels change everything! :whee:

It's half because I have all the target subsystems abilities now and half because I've been neglecting leveling up my bridge officers (didn't have a whole lot of options as LC anyway), but now I'm totally overwhelmed and loving it.

Seems like it works much better in a support role, though. I still sort of want to maintain a cruiser for soloing. Because cruisers are awesome. \\:D/

cruisers are awesome. Its just epic to see a huge cruiser flying around. Right now I'm Captain 1 and have cruiser...these thing are durable!!! Science vessel will be for my next toon.

It's true, cruisers are so iconic and it never gets old seeing one zoom by. Also it's great feeling like you're flying around an indestructible space battleship.

I'm really looking forward to putting in some more time with my science vessel, though. I'll probably spend my next few in-game hours just figuring out shuffling around/retraining my bridge officers... being able to use multiple abilities per officer opens up so many new options.

I wish I could get this excited about ground combat. :) Maybe soon.

Science here. And Itdefx, you should join the fleet. :)

The OP has been updated at long last!
Opinions and suggestions are welcome.
