CAGbag: Get your questions answered on CAGcast

Hey, Cheapy & Wombat.

Cheapy, since Shipwreck has been writing up reviews on a regular basis, have you ever thought about trying to get CAG listed on Metacritic?

Hey guys, love the show. quick question for you both. What are your opinions or hopes for Fable 3? Plus what are your reactions towards the confrimation it will be using project natal. Thanks for doing this amazing show, two thumbs way up!

Cheapy and Wombat, love the show and site. What do you think of these ideas to improve the game playing experience:

1. Ad-hoc invincibility in all games (to get past difficult areas)

2. A "what do I do now" hint mode (to get you past areas where you don't know what to do next to advance).

3. A system that can hold more than one disc (like a 5 disc changer)

4. Better pricing and syncing ability if you own the same game on multiple systems. So, if you own a PS3 and buy madden, you can get a discount on the PSP version and be able to sync stats and progress between the two. Imagine being able to play a season on your PS3 and PSP in sync!

Hey Cheapy, are you looking into running a promotion with Netflix again? With the PS3 announcement I can see a lot more CAGs willing to sign up. I am one of those people and would wait to sign up via CAG to help support the site.

Thanks!

Dear CheapyD and Wombat,
If you two weren't doing the CAGcast, what would you two being doing instead? A different podcast or something else?
Keep up the great work!
P.S Please give the UK a bit more love.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

Are you doing anything special for Halloween this year? I don't know if the kids are old enough yet, then again, really what is the right age to go Trick or Treating? And do they even celebrate Halloween in Japan?

Love the CAGcast, you guys are great.

By the way, I just read an article on joystiq...Wombat you wouldn't have dropped a generous donation for World of Goo, would you?

I was wondering Wombat. I am about to come to new york and was wondering. what is the best pizza there I mean Pizza so good it will make me WANT to live there?

Cheapy D and Wombat. Is there any game that you would like to try on the old gaming systems(Ps2,Xbox,Gamecube,Etc..) that you would want to go back to and try. Or one that you would want to finish?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat if you could remove one game series from EVER existing what would it be? It would not affect other game series that were inspired by it, so it's okay to say Mario.. it's Mario isn't it?

Hey cheapy and wombat, Mainly for cheapy this question since its about Japan, But. After watching a recent an episode of top gear (a car program over here in the UK, I think its on in america but not sure) In one episode the 3 presenters have a race across Japan one presenter being in a nissan GTR and the other two being in a bullet train, One presenter takes out his mobile phone and starts talking and according to the show the Japanese find it rude that you use you phone on public transport so I just wonder if it was true?

Also did you know on the UK xbox dashboard show "the insiders" they used wombats quote of stay classy xbox live as an outro?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat (and hopefully Shipwreck),

Have you heard of Gamestop's new "deals" that guarantee you $40 in trade-in value if you pre-order a game and trade it back within 1 month of release?

Personally I think this is a terrible idea, but I would like to hear your input.

Hey guys -

I wanted to you two to weigh in on the onslaught of incredible gaming deals (Amazon, Toys R Us, Best Buy's Buy 2 get 1 free promotions) that have been upon this "holiday" season before Black Friday.

All of these deals suggest that retails are having a hard time selling recently released games and that they are begging people to preorder games so they have gamers' business locked up.

So that's the core of my question - with retailers slashing new game prices, is it time that publishers get rid of the $60 price point? Every other market is collapsing yet gaming prices continue to rise - thoughts?

By the way that Windows 7 Whopper made my heart hurt.

OK, here are a few ideas for the CAG Market:

CAGporuim

CAGMart

Or you could always just name it "Free Porn". That might increase your traffic.

Hey Cheapy -

Have you tried the Azuki Pepsi yet? One of my favorite things to do when I was on exchange in Nagoya a few years ago was try all the ridiculous soda flavors.

I have been playing a lot of GTA Episodes from Liberty City (which is great by the way, any GTAIV fan owes it to themselves to pick it up) and it made me wonder, I know you guys never played much of GTAIV, but what are your thoughts on the other games in the series? Were you ever a fan?

And I second that amazing box moving story, it's about time you told us.

Hi CheapyD (and Wombat). It was good to hear you talk about Forza 3 on the last show, but I would like to hear more of your thoughts on the multiplayer side of it. There is quite a controversy raging on Turn 10's official forums, with most there seeing it as a big step backwards from Forza 2. As far as I know this hasn't been picked up by any main-stream games journalists, and the limitations of the new system weren't made clear in any of the reviews or pre-release publicity.

In case you don't know, the issue is this: Turn 10 took out custom public lobbies and replaced them with Halo-like matchmaking. You can still set up games the way you could in Forza 2, but only in private. This means if you don't have many friends playing Forza you will have to use the matchmaking system, which is currently limited to very few options (also you better learn to like destruction derby).

Fly-by-night casual players may be happy with matchmaking but the more serious ones will probably be hidden away in private matches - ironic for a game that is supposedly all about "the community". Even if the matchmaking system improves it will never be able to provide the level of customization people want in a game with many thousands of possible configurations (cars, classes, tracks, no. of laps, damage, assists, etc). Forza 2 had a very long online shelf-life but I'm not sure Forza 3 will have the same. What do you think?

Good show guys.

Cheapy you mentioned that you had zero dates in high school and I'm in the same situation. But you and wombat said that it all gets better in college. Well I'm 19 and I got accepted to University of California when I was a senior last year. Finacial aid gave me the maximum student loan for freshmen - $5,000. This left a $20,000 loan for my parents. They refused to pay for it, so now I'm still living at home going to the junior college down the street. This has left me extremely depressed. What should I do?

Platinum games, kinda put SEGA back on the map.... w/ Bayonetta, do you guys think that SEGA should do more with this studio... (i.e. having them remake some SEGA IPs, maybe expanding on the 4-game deal that they presently have..., or just expanding and/or purchasing the studio)

Also, do you think Bayonetta should be the new mascot for SEGA? [if possible]

additional question: I wanted to know if you guys think that the 360 Modern Warefare 2 [Holiday Bundle] will be more or less successful than the 2008 Family Pack 360 bundle which included lego indiana Jones, and kung fu panda?
[Basically I'm testing Wombat's theory of bundles with Mature rated games in them]

and for more fun... Does the 299 PS3 sell well against the 360s Holiday Bundle in 2009, and what type of PS3 Holiday Bundle do you think that Sony needs to put together this year to stay competitive for the Holidays?

Hey guys! Got a question for you. Do you think the RPGs are too long for their own good?

I love Persona 3 FES & Persona 4, but I can't see myself completing either one of those for at least a year or more because both are 70+ hour epics. Sticking with one game for 70-something hours before moving on to something else is practically impossible because of all of the great new games that have been released this year and all of the deals on CAG. I've already forgotten where I am in P4's story, which is pretty much the entire point of playing an RPG to begin with.

Phantasy Star Universe may have had its issues, but the episodic way that it handled the game's offline story(complete with opening & closing credits between stages) was just plain smart. It allows you to pick up and put back down the game with relative ease compared to other games in the genre. Should all RPGs handle their epic-length stories in this manner?

I have been a listener since episode 75th, I´m from Ecuador ( South America ) I´ve been wondering since all conversation regarding Duck Tales, what are Wombat´s memories from Chip ´n Dale Rescue Rangers? And... besides me.. do you have any Southamerican listeners?

I'm wondering if you guys experience better in game voice chat on the Xbox 360 compared to the PS3? I only have a PS3 so I can't compare the two.

Hey guys, I know Halloween is over, but I am curious:

Have you ever dressed up for anything gaming related on Halloween?
What are the best and worst Halloween costumes you've ever worn?
Did you do anything fun this year (since you both have kids now)?

These questions are for Wombat, You mentioned a long time ago that you were thinking of doing a comic section for the CAGast, have you given up on that idea or is just on hiatus? Also, are you going to try and get your daughter into gaming?

Gentleman,
It is easy to get lost in the sea of stupid video game peripherals. However, there is no doubt that some have stood out.

So my question is...What are some of your favorite video game peripherals?

Some ideas :
Did you love the "Sega Dreamcast fishing rod", or possibly "NES zapper"? Or maybe you preferred to shake your ass on a cheap plastic dance mat?

Cheapy you look pretty hairless, Wombat maybe this is more of a question for you. I'm a really hairy guy, chest, back, shoulders mainly. I can't figure out what to do with my unsightly amount of body hair. Should I shave it? If so what products should I use? Should I go get waxed? If so, what sort of place should I look for..

Hey Cheapy and wombat, cheapy I had this idea of having some lucky CAG member on the Cagcast, that way everyone in the CAG community can have a chance to be featured in the Cagcast. Have you ever had an idea such as that and what do you think about doing a live show on justin.tv and you can broadcast yourself playing video games live for viewers towatch and chat. the reason i say this is becuase frankly things with cagcast are getting a bit boring and having a live show once a week would bring in more listeners and make things more interactive. thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey good fellas,
recently I have been thinking about buying an xbox 360. I already have a ps3, but with modern warfare 2 coming out the need to get xbox has really hit me. Almost all of my high school friends have an xbox and play call of duty 4 together in a clan while I just play online by myself. I don't really feel left out at this point, but I know I would enjoy modern warfare 2 much more if I played with friends. Do you believe it is worth buying an xbox 360 for this reason?
I have already been on the hunt for a 360 looking for the best deals. Unfortunately I missed the walmart and amazon deal for the arcade edition with the 100$ giftcard. But I also have though on waiting until Black Friday. Do you think there will be any deals on black friday forthe xbox worth waiting for?

Thanks for the help.

Hey Cheapy Family, could you please mention this on the next podcast & see if there is a big enough response to where you guys would bring it back?

Hey guys,
Just wondering what your thoughts are on this issue. I never out grew the classic "Legacy" controls (think goldeneye for N64). I still use this control set up for games these days and cannot seem to get used to default controls. This makes games like Left for Dead, Battlefield 1942 and other great FPS games unplayable for me. Gears of War has the option, but I cannot use run, and turn at the same time, making multiplayer a poor experience. Halo and Call of Duty make the customization of controls so easy, can't anyone else make a game with good custom controls? I won't buy a game until I know the contorl set up, maybe I just need to learn new controls, is it my fault?
-Turdy

Thinking about the success of Modern Warfare 2: What do you think the Developers of SOCOM could do to help their product regain that mainstream success that it once had?

[my idea is that they should turn it into a FPS; and also retain the 3rd person view as well] I think that without the "perks" system that MW2 has, it can come across as a more realistic shooter where instead of picking the right weapon and perks options, you have to pick the right weapon and arm combination.

Hey Cheapy. I recently listened to the Mega64 podcast, and they were talking about those crazy milk bars in Japan with the girls who dress up as french maids. I already knew how weird those places were, but Mega64 was explaining that if you pay extra at some of these places, you can drink milk right out of the girls' breasts (if they are lactating). I figured if something this depraved was true, Mr. CheapyD would have heard about it. Have you heard of this? Would you partake?

Keep up the good work guys, been listening since episode 1.

Nevermind.

This was supposed to be a post that the godaddy coupon wouldn't work on renewals. But it did!

I was stupidly putting it in the giftcard field.

Yes. That is retarded.

CAG4LIFE even though I don't post due to never being able to get on at work. (RSS feeds + podcasts + twitter = awesome sauce)

Just wanted to put my 2 cents into the Rhythm game DLC piggy bank. When the developers pick music to put on the disc, they pick songs that will be fun for all 4 instruments. When you get DLC, they pick some great songs that might not necessarily be so balanced.

I do think that the the way they handled Abbey Road was ridiculous, but complaining that you are playing piano in a queen song that doesn't have any guitar is pretty lame too. You knew it didn't have much guitar in it before you bought it.

Hey Cheapy, I have a question. With all the demand to keep Shipwreck on the show, you finally caved in. But whatever happened to your excuse that three people on Skype causes too much lag? Did they fix that, are you guys just plowing through it, or were you just bitchin because you hate Shipwreck and wanted a good excuse to keep him out of the limelight?

Cheapy/Wombat/Shipwreck? - What would be your reaction to a developer requiring a DLC download in order to access the online multiplayer portion of their game, provided that a code was included with each copy of the game. People who buy the game used and wanted to play online multiplayer would be forced to buy the DLC in order to access matchmaking, etc. I see something like this being done in the future and wonder what your guys take on it will be.
Love the show, keep them coming.

cheapyd and wombat: How come Microsoft is trying hard this generation and didn't the last one? They do all these deals and made a diverse library while last gen they didn't seem to try nearly as hard and this one.

So I just celebrated my 32nd birthday and was thinking...

When are you considered too old to game?

Mainstream gaming was before my parent's time, so I'm going to the best first "old dude" in my family that grew up with games. I still love gaming, but what about when I'm 50 or 60? That's messed up to think about. What about you guys? Is there going to be a time when you call it quits, or are you going to be playing Halo 10 on your death bed?

Teach your children (if any) how to play.

I'll be playing it on my death bed also.:D

Cheapy and Wombat,

What are your thoughts on release dates and when a game is sold before it is supposed to do you think it is a big deal? I think that if the game is available then it should be sold the minute the store receives it.

Hey cheapy d and wombat i'm big fans and ship wreck if your on right now but all of you if you had to pick what would your favorite anime game is if you dont it's cool.

What do you guys think Microsoft needs to do to get some momentum back for Xbox?

It seems like this gen they have focused less on in-house development and more on "exclusive" 3rd party games. In contrast, Sony has focused heavily on first-party games from all of their studios. I don't know how successful that has been for Sony(they have yet to have a game that sells like Halo or Gears), but it seems like it has convinced many gamers to buy PS3s.

Do you think Microsoft is going to buy one or more game developers within the next year to give the Xbox more exclusive titles, or do they even need to do that? Will Natal be enough for them?

hey cheapy.

i've been in the mood to play a train sim. i've got a mac and no hd systems. but i was hoping you'd still have a good recomendation.

thanks

Hey Wombat and CheapyD, Have you guys considered writing a book about your lives. I think between the both of you, there are some great stories to tell. Maybe even a movie. Please discuss.

Cheapy,

This has nothing to do with video games, but I just read something about Obama bowing to the Japanese Emperor - what is your take on it. I don't know what bowing means, but thought you or your wife would.

CheapyD isnt it pretty obvious at this point, being a howard stern fan like you wombat's news and stuff is perhaps inspired by The News with Robin from howard stern. so why not let listeners make dirty songs about wombat's taint!?? if you catch my drift..

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

With the release of the new dashboard update that adds more superfluous features and apps that seem to have been shoved into an already full interface, I really started to hope that Microsoft and Sony could take a page out of Nintendo's book in offering a customizable interface. The Wii offers its channels system that lets you put any app on a seperate page so you can organize it however you wish, but on the PS3 and Xbox 360, you have to deal with whatever Sony and Microsoft wants to add whether you think it should be there or not.

The 360's dashboard only has three or four essential tabs (My Xbox, My Friends, Games Marketplace, and maybe Video Marketplace) while the other four tabs should be optional or at the very least you should be able to rearrange things within whatever boundaries MS would want to set since they'd still want to have ads and all that. The new apps are just spread out across the dashboard while adding a new tab or two, but I'd love to ask the people that are in charge of this stuff why they this was the best solution they could come up with. To add to this, you're actually paying for access to most of the features on the dashboard (most of the apps, 1 vs 100, early demos, etc.), so shouldn't you get a say in what your interface looks like outside of the few free premium themes you can get?

With the XMB, it's not so much of a cluttered interface, but the additions of PlayStation Store icons to the Game and Video tabs, the news ticker than runs even when you're offline, the What's New icon, and those kinds of things should be able to be toggled off since they were added for new or ignorant users and everyone else that's fully aware of what is on PSN should have the option to turn them off. The Facebook integration in firmware 3.10 seems to be done well as you go into the options to turn them on and the effects can be seen in the browser, which makes full use of mostly anything that site really has to offer, unlike Twitter on the Xbox 360.

I'm sorry for ranting a bit there, but it seems odd that the system that most gamers probably turn on the least offers a much more flexible interface that you probably use 99% of the time. It seems that as our systems get more complex, feature-filled dashboards, we should have more control over what do and don't want to see so that these systems can fulfill whatever uses you have for them.

Also, for a light question, could you imagine how crowded this holiday season would be if even half of the games that were delayed actually came out when they were originally supposed to?

Hi Cheapy and Wombat.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on Pandemic getting shut down. It's sad enough that EA had to lay off all of those people but now there is no more Pandemic. Yes, some of the people were kept but Pandemic is still gone. Even though its sad that people lost their jobs, from a gaming point of view, do you even care? I for one would of really liked a Star Wars Battlefront 3. But I could care less about the Saboteur, Destroy All Humans, and Mercenaries. Whatda you think?

Also what's your thoughts on the Mass Effect 2 cover art fiasco. The official cover makes me want to tear a Space Bitches head off.
