There are some of us out there who are saddened by the loss of Linux on the PS3, though it was not unexpected with the lack of support on the Slim. The Cell is not the greatest processor on the planet to work with, and RSX access was limited, but the system was inexpensive, and was a nice complete unit (CPU, Memory, Network) that could be clustered together to perform computational tasks. The firmware update doesn't really matter for us since we aren't on the PSN anyway, but this is the final nail in the coffin for these inexpensive computing nodes.
