CAGFC (UFC 2009 League) - HW's Only! New Site! Details Inside!

Nice to see the new additions to CAGFC. AK, you really saved the day by joining the lightweights. Now, every division has at least two fighters, meaning we WILL be starting the tournament on Saturday. The matchups will be chosen at random and the brackets will be posted by Saturday morning.

Registration for the tournament will continue until the bracket has been posted. At this point, some weight classes have an odd number of fighters. If that is still true when the bracket is made, the highest ranked fighter will receive a bye in the first round. The tournament will be single elimination and the results of each fight should be posted in this thread by both the winner and the loser (to maintain accuracy) in the following format:

Winner | Loser | Decision (ie. KO, TKO, submission, unanimous decision, split decision) | Time/Round

After the tournament, fighter rankings will be assigned based on performance and/or overall rating, and used as a means for setting up matches in the future. Any fighter who registers for CAGFC after the tournament will be added to the roster as the lowest ranked fighter in their weight class. Moving up in the rankings will be up to them.

The start is almost here guys. I hope you're all ready! :)

I am so ready. :D

Do we get like a little picture (created by homever) to put in our sig if we win the title? lol. I know, I guess I'm just way into it now lol.

Also since we all respect each other...maybe make it mandatory to touch gloves before the fight? I don't know, just spitballing here lol.

I was wondering about the whole touching gloves thing as well. I think it would be great for this to be done as a sign of respect in the first round of the fight.

I'm probably going to have to pull out guys. I'm pretty sure my 360 is crapping out on me. I thought it was a week or so ago but then it seemed fine but now it's screwing up again.

Hey, if you're not getting rid of it altogether, I'm sure the guys in charge wouldn't mind at all if you joined us after the system is fixed.

Nate, what's your overall rating? Mine's in the upper 40's after a 14-0 start to my career. I've barely gotten to play today, and I'm not sure how much time I'll have tomorrow or Saturday. fuck my CAGFC career. :(

But I will somehow overcome the odds to meet you in the finals of the middleweight title tournament, and KO you with a head kick- the first shot of the fight. I had a dream about it which included an anthropomorphic porcupine telling me, "What thou hast seen shall come to pass." Seriously.

P.S. Be a middleweight, Devin. Or not, since you always beat me on Smackdown.

Well, here's the thing, for this kind of "league", I don't really think pulling out is neccessary. It sucks that your 360 is screwing up, but are you planning on getting it fixed/buying a new one? If so, then just come back when you're ready. If you don't think you'll be able to participate in the tournament, that's fine. I can remove you from that, but you could always rejoin us down the road. Remember, there's no timetables here. Just let me know what you want to do.

I think I'm in the low 40s now. I haven't been playing the game as heavily as Gary, because I had to finish up my NHL season and I'm trying to catch up with MLB 09 as well. I'm not too worried about winning the tournament. I think I'm more concerned with just getting this thing off the ground, haha. I want to make sure everything works out ok and everybody has a good time. Tournaments are always chaotic. I look forward to your head kick. :)

I won't be able to start playing until Saturday morning, so it looks like I won't make it into this tourny. But I will be involved in everything after that.

Ha, That's the new go to when somebody has no life now, Just say my name :p. I think I might be getting a pass for this weekend as per what the rules I been reading. I played a little Ranked online last night and I will say this, If I'm going up guys the same level as my self, I have a great time. But a level 47, It's just sad. It's also nice to know that some people on live do do the fist bump thing as well. Some just ignore it completely when I do it and then that's when I just unload the shit out of them lol. But yah, like I said. I might be too excitied for the league to start. I also have a Peter Miller Middleweight I'm working on right now, that is if we can have two fighters in the league.

Tourny doesnt start till saturday bro, you can play!

Definitely down for the terrorist fist bump at the beginning. Didn't even crack open the manual so had no idea that you could do that. I thought the Cpu was just doing a weak jap at the start of the match. ha.

I think he means he doesn't have his fighter created yet or anything. There's still time to get in, but we have to have some kind of cutoff so there's time to have the brackets ready so people know who they're facing. I want to have the brackets posted late tonight/early tomorrow, so if Nightfall can't start till tomorrow, it's probably safe to say he'll miss the tourney. No big deal though. After the tournament, it will be much easier, considering we'll only be dealing with individual matches.

Yeah, I think it looks like a cat pawing at a ball of yarn, haha. But it is very sportsmanlike. :) For anybody who doesn't know, it's just the dpad toward your opponent.

Okay I definitely want in and would like to be a part of any tournaments coming up. I don't have a fighter designed yet, but he'll be a Heavy Weight once I create him. Figure I'll try to do a realistic looking version of me first.

Oh, I'll try to start my fighter tonight too.

Also, n8rocker have you considered a league using the actual UFC guys and not created fighters in addition to this? Just wondered cause maybe doing that separately would stop any concerns with CAF that have unrealistic stats.

we can have more than 1 CAF in the league at 1 time correct? Specifically I'm almost down with my light heavy weight and was looking to make another fighter in one of the lighter weight classes.

I won't be able to play my tournament match until Sunday. My Saturday is stuffed full with work. I should be able to play anytime on Sunday though.

I don't want to jump into the tourny with a fighter that's had no chance to develop in career mode. And I'll be out of town Sunday and Monday (Giants/Braves!), so it will be a week or so before my fighter is ready.

We've discussed it, but personally, I'd rather not do it in league format. The reason being, the range of talent in the actual fighters is too wide. We've got almost 30 guys here already, so allowing 5-6 people to have really awesome fighters while the other 25 are just decent wouldn't be very fun for very long. I'm totally open to real fighter tournaments though...where we pick new fighters every time. I just think one guy having Anderson Silva for months on end isn't really fair.

At this point, I don't see why not. If you're creating multiple careers with guys in different weight classes, you might as well be able to compete with all of them. The only stipulation with this would be that it's twice the responsibility. Both fighters would be held to the same standard as though they were handled by two separate people. But if anybody started to dominate and basically monopolized the belts with their multiple fighters, we'd have to reconsider though, haha. But for now, it should be fine.

If the guy from the other thread doesn't take Peter "Mayhem" Miller I might just put him into it as well lol. I could probably get him up there like the same I did with my Heavyweight. :D

Gary, you keep calling him Peter Miller, but his first name is Jason. I think Peter Miller does porn, haha. Also, sorry to tell you there's no Santa Claus, but I found this on the web earlier:

http://www.mmatko.com/bully-beatdown-using-pro-stuntmen-to-act-part-of-bully/
I knew from the beginning that the show advertised for tough guys to apply and they would be chosen based on some sort of bully mentality towards their friends. I did not find out until a few days ago that not one of the bullies had in fact, ever bullied the actors that have played the part of the victims.

I spoke with a friend that helped with the production of the show and was told that most of the bully/victim combo had never even met prior to the taping of each episode.
Take bully Jon from the last episode with Jake Shields. Last year he was on the Fox TV show Battle of the Bods where Jonathan proclaimed to be a professional stuntman as he judged the bodies of young women. jon-bods

Even though Bully Beatdown is filled with actors the fights are mostly real. The stuntmen do try to fight back against the Pro MMA fighters but their payday comes not from the 10,000 prize money offered up but from the money guaranteed on the contract they signed going into the fight.

I knew that the show was a little fake but I am disappointed in just how fake it really is.

Update: I have been asked for proof that any of these guys are actors. Well hear you go.
Ryan Adam Kessman : one of the fighters IMDb Resume. Lists his background Performance Skills: Martial Arts, Stunts. He was even on My name is Earl.
Also, this was allegedly posted by Mayhem himself. I haven't been able to confirm he actually posted it though.

http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/?go=forum.posts&thread=1446796&forum=1&page=1&pc=18
I have a confession to make.

Bully Beatdown is completely fake. Everyone on it is actors. Everyone involved with the show knows that it is fake and we script pretty much everything that comes out of their mouth. I have not yet got an executive producer credit, or a writer's credit- but I write the bully's dialouge myself. I will be E.P. on season two. That's right, our scripted fake show is suppossedly doing so well done that we will be getting a season two. Makes my stomach hurt that I'm selling this slop. I'm sorry.

The fights are the most complicated portion of the show. The real trick is, hiring stuntmen that are so skilled that they can make it look like we are putting them in 16 oz gloves, headgear and convincingly get beat up by mixed martial artists. We looked high and low, but we found them, and made the show really convincing. Unfortunately, the people on the internet are much too bright to be fooled by this trickery, and have exposed us. This doesn't really affect us too much, because no one cares what a few back alley websites say about our hit MTV show, but I couldn't bear to read the forum with all this shame that I'm carrying around. I'm actually considering turning down the contract to host the next season because of the ridicule that I'm recieving on this board and others.

Again. I'm sorry interwebz. I apologize, sincerely.
I can't believe John McCarthy would take part in something like that if it's true. He helped build the sport as much as anybody. I guess money talks. I knew the overacting on the show was horrible, but I just figured it was MTV's terrible directing ("Act like the biggest arrogant prick you possibly can. Make people hate you! That's what America wants!")...just like all their other "reality shows": My Super Sweet 16, Date My Daughter, Whores on Parade (ok, I made that last one up...but it really isn't much of a stretch). MTV should go straight to hell for selling its soul in the mid 90s.

I suggested the idea and would be willing to run it. It might be 3 weeks before it kicks into gear, though, because I want to let this one get off the ground first, plus I have finals in a few weeks.

Nate, someone at another board linked to a site that has a great tournament/seeding/stat tracking set up. Check it out: http://xboxmma.com

Just wanted to let everybody know that the seeding for the tournament will be based on current overall ratings, so try to post the most recent rating for your fighter, otherwise, we'll have to just go based on what we have. Thanks!

That site seems pretty cool. It seems like it needs some time to grow though because right now it's very barebones. For example, I started to set up our tournament, and discovered that they only offer 4, 8, 12, and 16 man formats...nothing to account for an odd number. Also, it was limited to actual fighters only. It's a cool idea, but doesn't really fit our needs. Thanks for posting it though.

By when?

I am creating another fighter in addition to RJJ(OVR 42).

Name: Manny "The Headhunter" Pacquiao (They really need more nicknames and more locations to be from.)
Height: 5-7
Weight: 155
Fighting Styles: Boxing, BJJ
Overall: Will post shortly
Finished career. My updates stats are 93.
Uh oh, my LH guy is in trouble.

I wonder if i was LW If I could get up there. I guess you did alot of Sparring lol. I should do my JASON Miller and see how high I could get him just sparring and losing matches non stop lol.

I don't think losing would help. Even with a loss, time passes. So, if the career is limited to 7 years, it should be the same either way. Plus, winning fights earns cred, which gets you better equipment, which makes training easier. Sparring even seems easier. I'm pulling in about 60 points per sparring session now. Unfortunately, I've restarted my career like 3 times, because I did things wrong, or didn't like the way my guy looked, haha.

I'm struggling now to not restart because I didn't realize your fighter never ages. (how dumb is that?) I made my guy 18 because I figured it would allow him to have a longer career and earn more points. It's retarded that he's in his 4th year of fighting...and is still 18. OCD much? You betcha! :D
I wonder if i was LW If I could get up there. I guess you did alot of Sparring lol. I should do my JASON Miller and see how high I could get him just sparring and losing matches non stop lol.
Yep, sparring, training and camps. None of that autograph crap does much so I skipped it all, same with taking fights on short notice. Short notice fights just cuts into the training time and all it does if you win is advance your fighter up the ranks, which at the beginning part of the career just means tougher opponents.

Would've been higher if I didn't mess up some of my sparring :)

Losing earns less cred which hurts equipment. I went 33-1, missing that achievement by just one f'n fight. Tried to takedown Griffin and he lifted a knee, d'oh.

Did a player match online today and the lag made everything feel like one step behind what I was inputting.

Okay my guy will be a light heavyweight, but I think I gotta sit out the first tournament because I suck shit in my career right now. I'll work on getting a decent character (this one or a new one) soon. Definitely want to do some matches in the meantime and maybe we could get a little mini tourney going with a party of whoever is on sometime soon.

Oh and if we did a real fighter league/tournament I'd think everyone could just take their top guy and have an alternate for when you gotta fight yourself. I suppose there would have to be some kind of system to determine who would get stuck with their back up. Like with heavy weights I always take Brock, but when I do ranked matches against him I always have another guy ready to deal with him.

I just might have to sit the first tourney out. Haven't been able to play as much as I would like, and my rating is crap (34 at the moment). It doesn't help that I didn't know how to train with the trainer until like 5 matches in >_

I won't be able to play on Saturday. I'm going to be busy working throughout the day. I could play my tournament match on Sunday though.

Forgot to mention that my fighter is now a 59 overall rating.

Posting this again so it's on this page:

The tournament isn't really any big deal. I mean, I honestly have no idea what to expect. My guy is sitting at 44 right now, but I might get tapped out in the first 10 seconds of the first fight. The worst that could happen is you take a loss and you get a low ranked opponent for your next fight. It's not like you're going to get voted off the island here, haha ;)

I do need to know if anybody is FOR SURE out though. The only registered fighter that I'm counting out as of now is BoSoxFan, who mentioned he was having trouble with his 360. Anyone else who doesn't confirm that they are 100% out will be in the bracket, and will be expected to fight or take a loss by forfeit.

Also, fighting on Saturday is not a requirement. Since it's going to take time to report results and progress to the next round, I figure we should have the tournament done in about a week. That's the only timeframe I'm putting on it.

I'm in year 4 right now and have my guy up to a 54. I'm afraid that I won't even be able to get him to 80 by the time I'm done.

Well, calling it a night at 51. Will probably have to start a new career because I screwed so many things up early on that my max ranking will be low.

I think my MW Caw will be good. If I do decide to do a MW career. I'm not that bad online actually a couple 94 guys went up against me and WHAT do you know, Right BEFORE they tapp'd out they quit. This game is all about skill, timing, and reading your opponent honestly. I will say this, I ALWAYS Send them a message that says "Next time take your loss like a man." Then of course I always get either one of two messages "Stop fighting like a bitch asshole" or "Your a pussy, Eat these nutz" I guess people just don't understand that NO STAMINA = TAPOUT, Morons.
My guy is at 47 now and I am for sure in tomorrow, what time is the tournament starting.
The brackets will be posted sometime Saturday morning. After that, it's on you to contact your opponent and fight. Just remember to post your results here, so the brackets can be updated as soon as possible. As previously stated, we'd like the tournament to be finished within a week.

EDIT - And actually, pimpster, since you're in the WW division, there's currently only one other fighter, so you basically know who your opponent is, haha. Feel free to contact cgarb84 (the linked names in the OP are to send PMs...great way to get in touch) and set up a time for you two to fight. One of you will be our first CAGFC Welterweight Champion! :)

FYI, my overall is 85 (Yes I finished and lamely didn't get into the HoF even though I defended my belt 10 times w/o losing). I know I contacted you N8 regarding my upcoming two weeks. Anyways I still can fight this week and would like to do so!
