Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

Yeah, the aim assist in the game really messes me up more often than it helps me. I can't even begin to describe how many times I'll be lining up a headshot on someone and someone else on their team will run by them causing the reticule to follow them like a magnet.

It is nice to be aiming waiting for a smoke grenade to clear and seeing your reticule move on its own and then killing them through smoke cover without ever actually seeing them. That hardly outweighs the frustrating parts though.

I never had a problem with the auto-aim thing. The times that it didn't work right, I just sighted the guy manually.

Anyway, I beat the game last night, but I only have 330 Gamerscore. I'm going to try to make this the first game that I beat 100%.

A tough task as the AI is so cheap and poorly designed (infinitely respawning enemies until you hit a magic checkpoint etc.).

I couldn't even get through it on Hardened, much less have the patience to try Veteran. But I also don't give two shits about gamerscore so i really had no motivation.
I really do wish there had been some achievements for the multiplayer.
I don't. The challenges, weapon and perk unlocking and ranking system are more than enough.

Achievements lead to many random games with people just wanting to boost to get achievements, or playing stupidly to get some random achievement etc.

same thing happens with cage matches for challenges though, so it isn't too much different. 3/4 of the people with gold weapons are terrible and couldn't get a headshot if the person was in prone on the ground, not moving 2 feet in front of them, much less someone that is actually moving and shooting back.

Definitely true. But at least a bit more worth it since the perks, weapon unlocking etc. are worthwhile.

Where as in Halo you're putting up with the boosters, and not getting anything out of it yoruself if you don't care about nerd score.

Any advice would be great. Ive started playing the MP tonight and im okay. I still need to rank up my guns. Which is my question. Which gun is the best to use. I suck at sniping, so any of the others would be perfered.

You can't go wrong with an M16 w/ red dot sights. If you're actually trying to level up all the guns there's basically two ways you can go about it, either put steady aim on and spray away as that can be fairly effective at close to medium range or fire in short 3-5 shot bursts to make sure you're on target. Stopping power is a good perk that will benefit nearly every gun.

the overall best weapon in the game is the m16 in my opinion. it is perfect for almost any situation around basically. once you get a red dot for the weapon, it basically becomes a mobile sniper rifle if you can become good enough. it has next to no recoil when you aim the sights down and can easily beat snipers (snipers take 1-2 shots on average), the m16 takes 1-3 burst depending on if they use juggernaut or not. it is great mid to long range with sights and is almost just as accurate hip firing for short range. i have personally taken on multiple p90/mp5 users in CQC with the m16.

if you want my picks for each class, i will list my overall best weapons.

Assault: M16- already explained why or the G36C if you need a full auto (not as powerful, but extremely accurate).

Sub: P90 (has next to no recoil, good range, and a pretty good amount of ammo) or the mp5 (with a silencer has short range, but very effective and shares ammo with the m9 pistol if needed).

LMG: RPD (basically the same effect as a m16, the the sights aren't quite as good) or the M60 with a red dot (iron sights are terrible and has a lot of recoil, but very powerful and with the red dot can be used on the same level as a sniper).

Shotgun: either one is fine really, the 1st one does a ton of damage, but the semi-auto can easily take on multiple opponents at once.

Sniper: the M40 is by far the most accurate and powerful bolt action sniper, but if you need a semi auto sniper, you will have to wait for the barrett. the barrett is fairly accurate and deals a ton of damage at the same time with a fair amount of ammo. the m21 is amazing on accuracy for a sniper, you really don't even need to hold your breath half the time, but it lacks in the damage department which can be bad for a long range sniper battle.

edit: as for the perks like xcoax said, stopping power is good, but lately to me at least it seems like it is having no effect at all.

perk 1: i always use RPG's as my first tier when i first start (i prestige a lot), but once i unlock bandolier, i put that on every class but one. i basically have one class set up for taking down a helicopter quickly (LMG, RPG, stopping power, steady aim).

perk 2: i use stopping power for most classes still, even if its effect is minimal, it may help when i run into a juggernaut. once i unlock later perks, i make a "ghost class" which is always a SMG with a silencer and UAV jammer. if you tend to reload a lot, sleight of hand becomes a great perk, especially for the SMG's and LMG's since the SMG's will almost always be a CQC situation and the LMG's just take a long time to reload.

perk 3: with my m16 class i always use deep impact so that i can take out snipers hiding against walls when i am not sniping. for my SMG class and Assault 2 class i use extreme conditioning since i am constantly moving. for my LMG class i always use steady aim, if by some chance someone gets close to me, the sights are a bad idea and hip firing a LMG without steady aim it is almost impossible to hit someone. for my sniper i originally use either deep impact or extreme conditioning depending on the map, but once i unlock iron lungs, i always switch to that.

I suggest the M4. You can fully utilize it's maximum range if your accurate enough, which is pretty far, and have a fast rate of fire close range. Or the M16, like others have suggested, which fires more accurately but of course the rate of fire is much lower. Both are great for any type of player.

If you're fast and would prefer more close combat, the MP5 or the P90 is great for close encounters. Just refrain from using your sights in close situations and shoot from the hip instead.

I find that the perks steady aim, stopping power, and extreme conditioning to be most helpful. UAV jammer too if you're a fast runner. ;)

Of course I'm not as experienced as xcoax and IAmTheBiggestInuyashaFan so it's best to listen to their tips first.

the m4 is alright for short to mid range, but because it bounces around while you hold the sights down (at least with the red dot), it makes it a little bit inaccurate in comparison to the m16 or g36c. of course, the g36c is one of the guns you unlock later unlike the m4, so that was a pretty good suggestion. if you are a very good shot, the ak-47 is probably on the same level as the m16 since it is a little better for CQC and great mid range, but lacks with the long range.

i can easily take on most m16 users with an ak-47, but i use it for mid-range maps like strike or crossfire when i dont snipe. it is also great for vacant, i was mowing down groups of 3-5 on vacant with just one clip.

edit: sometimes listening to people like myself or xcoax can be bad for someone with less experience actually. assuming that xcoax is the same way as me, we have probably maxed out the marksman challenges on every weapon at least one time, more than likely we have each done it multiple times. i use the marksman challenges to help me rank up faster, so i always max out the assaults, the smgs, the lmgs, and 3-4 of the snipers (i always max out the m40, r700, and barrett).

i personally don't go for maxing out the shotguns anymore since those tend to only work well on maps like vacant or showdown (up top). i don't like to get in CQC too often myself, though i am good at it, it tends to move spawns and cause teammates to die and i would be annoyed if someone did that to me. by the time i finish maxing out all of the other weapons anyways, most of my other challenges (boot camp, operations, etc) are getting close to if not maxed out as well, so it really doesn't take enough time to finish all of the weapons anyways.

Can someone tell me what Prestige does? I know it takes away your guns. Does it reset the challenges like Shoot 15 people while crouching if you already completed them? Do you get an astrick by your name or special medal in game? Is it worth anything other than showing off?

It resets everything. Pretty much all your challenges, guns, perks, attachments. Everything. The only thing you get is a new Prestige rank. Once you prestige, your rank symbol no longer changes as you progress through levels. Instead you stay with your Prestige symbol. The symbol won't change until you prestige again.

Everyone has their different opinions about Prestige. Many refuse to prestige and would rather keep all their guns and attachments. Others Prestige just for the heck of it, or to get to the Gold Cross symbol. I found myself getting real bored after reaching Lvl 55, so I decided to Prestige.

It resets challenges and guns, basically everything but your clan tag and playlists are reset. Its really up to you if its worth it or not. I know for me it kept the game fresh and made me want to use all the different guns to try and level up quicker. If you make it to 55 and are still content with playing the game then I don't see any reason to do it. I know chasemurata never prestiged and he's still on 3-5 nights a week.

Yep, thats pretty much exactly what I did too. I'd max out marksmen on all the Assault, SMG, LMG, and the M40, Dragonov, R700 and .50 Cal snipers every time, and then usually go for a blue tiger on whatever gun was closest to it on that particular prestige and by that time I was usually close enough to hit 55. Shotguns were always just for dicking around, though I have much respect for anyone who can use them seriously.

Now that I'm done with prestige I'm just going for the golden guns and so far I've got the M16, G36c, M40, and .50 Cal all red tigered and I'm currently working on the M4. The one thing I've learned from going for the 150 headshots is if you use any particular gun long enough you can become great with it. I went for like three days exclusively using the .50 Cal and the G36 and got incredibly good with them.

7th, to answer your question from the PM.

Mile High Club is the bonus mission after you finish the single player campaign. It has no point in the main storyline other than it's a really different kind of mission. (rescuing harrison ford The president from being hijacked by terrorists)

On Veteran this mission is a motherfucking pain in the anus to the 10th degree. but it's worth it.

shotguns actually aren't too bad, but they aren't great either. i am a lot better with every weapon than i used to be, i can use any weapon in any situation now. on my other name i already have the golden ak-47 and the golden dragunov and only needed headshots for the mini-uzi to get the golden mini-uzi. i ended up getting bored after a while and switched over to my dummy account (anarchydummy) and started using that name legit.

Yeah i remember getting that and beating it on easy. Does beating it give you anything?
Yeah i remember getting that and beating it on easy. Does beating it give you anything?
it gives you an achievement if you beat it on veteran, but it is a real pain. after watching a youtube video about that mission, i tried it again and it still took me another 30-45 mins. to perfect it.

20 Achievement points on Veteran. damn near broke my controller.
I beat it on Easy, Normal, and Hardened. It's just a bitch on Veteran. No tutorial could help me.
i beat it on all of them, but i will agree with the veteran statement, it was almost impossible. i think i had about 4 seconds left when i made it to the end on veteran, but it was extremely satisfying to finally beat it.

One thing that i noticed about MP was that its not very fluid when moving around. What i mean is that i often get hung up on something instead of going right past it, or into a building. Wither it being a wall, stairs, doorway, steps, stuff like that. Seems like i cant move around as well as you do in Halo 3.

I also wonder if its my internet connection, or if this is normal. But sometimes when i die, when i see it first person it seems so quick. But in the replay its like they have more time shooting at me than i suspected. Like there is a 1 second delay in my connection, and i dont really see it till the replay.

So far it seems like less bullshit compared to halo 3. But i am starting to think its not as fun as helo 3.

Yeah, sometimes the hardest part about the multiplayer is making it through doorways. Its frustrating to say the least. The other thing I hate is when two people try to go through the same door at once and both get stuck, or just in general when someone just pushes me out of the way. Like the other day I was sniping on the second story of the lobby in Broadcast and I backed up to reload and the second I moved someone else crouched right in front of me and proceded to take my spot.

When I play Ambush, and someone blocks a doorway, and I die, if I am given an opportunity and respawn in front of that person at a specific point, I'll block his way out, and force him to kill himself.

I only do this during non-CAG games, though, and infrequently to boot. But it is satisfying if it's deserved.
Like the other day I was sniping on the second story of the lobby in Broadcast and I backed up to reload and the second I moved someone else crouched right in front of me and proceded to take my spot.
That bastard!

I think it may have been me, if memory serves. True, you could say that I took your spot, but I prefer to think that I was providing cover while giving you the precious seconds that you needed to reload. ;)

Oh, and I hate the door thing. That and getting hung up on a trashcan while trying to avoid incoming fire.

Yeah ive had that happen. I was trying to go upstairs and someone was in front of me not allowing me to do so. I ended up dying. Another time someone was crawling on the ground and i couldnt walk over him.

One thing that really pisses me off is the knife. So many times ive shot at a guy and he would run up to me and kill me with one slice. If i started shooting them they should stop walking. Not be able to be invincible to my bullets because he can slice me with his blade faster than it would take for me to kill him with a few rounds of bullets.

the knife will annoy you more than you could ever imagine. someone that is like 8 feet away from you will end up knifing you with no problem, but if you were to try to knife someone 2 feet away from you and you know it should hit, you will miss. same things goes for running and doing it while being shot, it seems almost impossible to kill someone just going for the knife when they run at you, but if it were you doing it the other way around, you would be killed in no time.

When you prestige, is it the same as before? Like get points for 25/75/150 kills using a weapon? Or does each new prestige level make it that much more longer to rank up?
When you prestige, is it the same as before? Like get points for 25/75/150 kills using a weapon? Or does each new prestige level make it that much more longer to rank up?
It's the same. Thank god it doesn't get harder.

well i think i just had 2 of my best back-to-back rounds in a long time. just prestiged again and made it to level 5 in 2 rounds on this one. i ended up with 28-4 for the first round and 27-3 in the next round in a normal deathmatch. it has been a long time since i had 6 helicopters in only 2 rounds for a deathmatch to 750 instead of 1,000.

Have you guys ever had what I call a "Team Thief"?

Here is what happened, not once but three times in the same match.

I had a personal battle going on with a level 8 prestige from the other team.
He was using a Gold AK-47.
well as you all know, one of the most fulfilling ways to kill someone is with their own
dropped weapon.
Ok, so I kill the guy with a few ranged G36c rounds, and as I run up to his body to snatch up the
gold AK, a team mate comes up and takes it.
So im like "ok, no biggie"..

well, same situation a few minutes later, I get the guy with a nice 'nade and as im going for the
Gold AK, the SAME GUY runs up and grabs it....
now im getting pissed....

while later

me and mr gold ak get in close range and I outgun him.
Guess who runs up from behind me and grabs the dropped weapon???
yup....... the same fuckin guy

and to make it worse, he did the same thing every time, grabbed the AK and Ran off...
:censored:

he didnt have a Mic connected so telling him something was pointless

wow, that had to be extremely annoying, especially since he obviously kept losing the golden ak over and over to have to pick it up that many times. i would have shot a few rounds at that team mate and probably knifed him a few times (assuming this was a non-hardcore match) to let him know that he was bothering me.

edit: that seems to be about the only form of communication you can do with them and usually they get it and stay away from you. otherwise you can follow them around shooting your gun if you are worried about dying.

Th guy was something like a level 26 (Non-Prestige) so I figured this was the ONLY

Complete all of the weapon challenges in that weapon class category.
(All Assault rifles, sniper, LMG, etc).

for example, To unlock the golden AK-47, you have to complete all of the challenges for every assault rifle. Including the headshot challenges.

Oh thanks, i have another question. When making a custom class, it shows the ratings for each primary weapon. But it doesnt show the ratings when you are picking the 2nd weapon. Is there a way to see the ratings?

If you're just talking pistols then no, nothing other than the brief text descriptions. This site sums it up pretty well though. http://www.cod4central.com/cod4-weapons-pistols.php Theres actually descriptions and techniques for pretty much every weapon that are quite helpful, so I'd recommend browsing around for awhile.

no there isn't, but the only two decent pistols are the usp.45 and the desert eagle (which you unlock later). the only class i carry the m9 with is with my mp5 while i don't have bandolier since the two weapons share ammo. i acutally prefer the usp.45 over the desert eagle since it takes maybe one extra shot from the usp.45 to kill them and it has a lot less kick to it.

i was told, that the desert eagle, the recoil does not affect the direction of the bullet.

i heard this from a guy that used a modded controller. he said it didn't make a difference, the bullets would still go straight.

if you fire it rapidly it doesn't affect it, but if you are trying to shoot someone at a distance and slowly shooting it does. the usp.45 basically has no recoil in any situation which makes it basically the perfect pistol since it does almost just as much damage as the desert eagle.
