Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

I just got this game for the PC based on all the great reviews and tried it out..

I can't get into it at all, its like I'm just getting killed in 1 hit by people I don't even see before it's too late. How the heck do you play this game? I'm missing something.

You can't take much damage before dying, it isn't Halo. This is a twitch shooter. Aim for the head, lay down the shots. Your perks alter how you approach the situation, but ultimately you're trying to get the first hit, and kill, in.

Well i dont know how different it is on the PC, But if your trying to get used to the game, Your best bet is to try out Team Deathmatch, Domination, or Headquarters. This isnt Halo or any other games, it only takes a few shots to take you down so watch yourself and be careful around corners and watch your head (DAMN SNIPERS!)

Grenades are your friend and creating a good weapon class is key, I prefer M16 + Red Dot Sight + Smoke +Frag + C4/RPG + Stopping Power + Deep Penetration. gets me at least 20 kills in the first couple rounds.

Another plus is try using silencers if you got em, You wont show up on the enemy radar as a red dot when you shoot, combined with UAV jammer and Dead silence you'll be practically Invisible unless they see you right in front of you.

Switching Classes In-game is a nice way to gain an advantage, having trouble with a Camping sniper? Snipe em back by switching. got a dude cowering in a corner shooting everyone that moves? Smoke em out or hit em with a Hot Potato.

Its all about Class and Strategy

Just thought I should clear one thing up. Silencers and UAV Jammer do the same thing, so don't use them both. The difference is that a silencer makes the guns range weaker and the uav jammer uses up a perk. Also, Dead silence is the biggest waste of a perk ever.

In response to dezuria: I still run and gun quite a bit in this game, it can really be played with any strategy possible. HQ is the best to run and gun because everyone is going to the same spot on the map. I use stopping power so that if I'm in a one on one situation where we are both hitting eachother, they die first. I use martyrdom and get a lot of kills in that because people are stupid and run over your body, or are crowded around a HQ. I also use 3 frags once I got them and racked up kills with those. I don't know how the PC controls are but really it is all about a fast finger and learning the maps.

Wow, I just played last night and I was impressed at how good I did. I am currently level 37 and I was making the Prestige guys look like novices. I got a 17 kill streak to start out a team deathmatch level on Downpour...it was crazy. I was in some part of the grass where I kept gunning down guys, diving into the grass to reload, go back up, and repeat. I was then just running, hiding, then gunning all around the middle of the map, where I eventually holed up in that barn in the middle, netting my a few more kills. I called in a helicopter, and all hell broke loose. :D

And after that, all the rest of the games I played in I came in either first or second. One match I joined halfway through (about 340-290), and I still ended with the most kills/points! I love this game.

No, UAV jammer only keeps you from showing up when a UAV flies overhead. You still show up when you fire your weapon. The silencer keeps you from showing up when you fire your weapon, but you still show up when the UAV flies overhead.

I joined the CAG group, hope to see you guys on there. Sometimes I don't have my mic on because I do have a 2 year old in the house and I have to be quiet during naptime!

I'm really tempted to stop by a Target on my way home and pick this up for 37.
I'll make a pro and con list right now:

Pros:
1. I love the game
2. Get to keep playin online with friends
3. Can reach level 55 and unlock more stuff
4. Can try to finally get my Kill/Death ratio up to 1.

Cons:
1. I suck pretty bad at this game and it can get EXTREMELY frustrating for me. I say fuck! alot while playing.
2. I already beat the single player campaign
3. Money is tight right now
4. I already put in about 1 day and 14 hours of multiplayer play time, and beat the campaign so purchasing it wouldnt make much sense.
5. I have a backlog of games that needs tending to.

I dunno, seems like the cons outweigh the pros. I doubt I'll buy it when I've already expereinced so much the game has to offer for free.

OTOH, I am just now getting to the point where I am good enough that I can hold my own, finish in the top half regualrly, and my embarassing K/D ratio is rising (.84).

What is your K/D ratio and be honest.

The only game that even compares to the quality of COD4 is Bioshock, and that has no mp. Wouldn't you rather play the best game out there instead of the crappier games in your backlog? Thats how I feel. I will be playing COD4 for a long time!!!

My KD ratio is (.98) up from (.85) and I am a level 14 on first prestige. I feel like I a ton of replayability left.

My advise is to make your decision soon and stick to it. If you don't buy it now you can always pick it up later when money is less tight.

Good points, thanks for the input.

Oh I left out a Con:

6. If I buy it, the fiance will be really pissed off.

She was so happy when my bro-in-law asked for it back. I've had it three weeks exactly and have 1 day 14 hrs in. Pretty bad eh? She was def. missing some of the attention COD4 was gettin. Ces la vie.
I want to join the CAG group..where do I go?
Add CAGCOD4 to your Friend's List and use the new friend of a friend feature to play with other CAGs.

Just started it last night and im a steep level 3 after playing for 20 whole minutes. i can see how this will become addicting I'll have to add the account to the friends list when I get home.

If thats the case then you should buy it and play less. It's called self control. If you buy it you will have it forever so there will be no rush to play constantly.
What level are/were you pitt?

Still not +1 on K/D?
This is totally embarassing, and a large reason I don't have that much intersest in buying it: I SUCK! BAD, like really bad. At least I did when I started.

I am a level 48 (IIRC) and my K/D ratio is around .85.

Yeah, I got past my initial suck ratio of .67.
I think I passed 1.00 at level 30-something.

Once I went LMG, I never looked back.
Pleny of double digit kills vs single digit death matches after that.

I beat the game today. Then ending was very cool, and the after credits thing caught me off guard...I like that.

One of the few games I've played recently that was well worth the full MSRP. Bravo.
I am too lazy to look it up:

What is Prestige Mode?
when you hit level 55 you have the option to start all over with unlocking your guns and completing challenges, but you get a special emblem instead of the standard old ones.

First time getting to level 55. I'm not doing prestige though. I would rather get all the challenges done. I've gotten quite a lot of them done so far. My K/D ratio is 1.82. It isn't going down anytime soon, maybe even up. I started using the Sniper a lot and I'm managing to get a K/D ratio of 5:1 or better everytime I get a sniper... I went 44 and 8 in Team Deathmatch on countdown yesterday :). Gotta love the 3x Frag perk. I got 3-5 kills everytime I spawned with just grenades. THAT + a silenced M4 Carbine owned them.

Just picked this up today, and wow is it ever addicting. I should of already known that since I played in the beta but it's even more so in the retail version.

And paying $40.00 for it is even better. :D

I have a question, do the UAVs stack?

Just got it today too. Played a couple hours of single player, and will play some more shortly. Will try out online after finishing the first playthough of the campaign.

Definitely awesome so far. Outstanding graphics and atmosphere.

I love how I have a .75 k/d ratio and Level 3 Prestige at Rank 44. I would be higher in prestige if I would stop letting my friends suck me into Search & Destroy every time I play with them and they take all the kills before I even get started good.

When did they put in the new maps? I REALLY like the rainy tanker map, it really cuts down on the camping and whatnot, since it's not very vertical. I whooped ass on it the one time I played it, Team Deathmatch, led my team with something like 29 and 11.

Well, I got tons of cool Christmas presents and, yet, I find myself going back to COD4. I've been playing Domination more than anything else lately and it's painfully fun.

COD 4 is too much fun to not go back and play it.

Just ordered this off Amazon with my Christmas gift card. Great price for a (hopefully) great game. Can't wait to play with you guys when it comes in!

Okay, I give.

Uncle.

You all suck.

I will be stopping by a Target tonight to buy COD4 for $37. Yes, I will do this even though I (1) already beat it on hardened, and (2) already logged 1day 14hrs play time.

Last night I was playing Gears, (yes, gears of war) and just about everybody on my friends list was playing COD4. I felt so left out.

In a day or two I'll hit level 55 and have a big decision to make. Do I want to start going into the prestiges and lose EVERYTHING (cept stats) all for a stupid symbol!? Or OTOH, do I keep knockin those challenges off and kickin ass w/ my cool perks/weapons etc. and probably spare my k/d ratio some damage? Hmm.....what to do.....what to do.
This game is my favorite game this console generation, and in my top 5 of all time
I almost agree, and would if it weren't for Bioshock but it is pretty apples and oranges, calling Bioshock a FPS in the sense that COD4 is is misleading.

I love it and will play it much more, but only time will tell if I log as many online MP hours as I did on gears. Surely the campaign is one of the best Iv'e ever played. I am looking forward to pulling my hair out dealign with vet difficulty.

this game is amazing. the mp is outstanding, its just so much fun.
foley odenat and sasukekun are pretty damn good. i completely suck and it made no difference to the team as they destroyed everybody.

sorry i left last night, my internet was being a douche and kept resetting my connection, i have a tech coming out today to fix it. i start my vacation tomorrow and ill be playing this often.

anybody that not on the cagcod4 send me a request if youre not a jerk on live and want to play with a cag.

The only reason I am doing presitge is because I want that symbol that somewhat looks like the Umbrella Corp. (Resident Evil games) symbol >_>. But it is a PITA to lose all your weapons, so I might just stick with prestige 1.

Yeah teh Foley's Troy and Jim where rippin it up when I played with em. Kuga wasnt bad either. We were definitely doing well.

Mile High Club.

I hate you.
GOTTTT ITTT!

It took me 6 hours of trys, but I finally got it. I found a strategy that worked for me that got me to the VIP about 1/4 of the time, from there it was just a matter of figuring out the terrorist's moves to pistol him.

I watched about 10 different strategies on YouTube, and figured out that the only way you can beat Mile High Club is to utilize your strengths. For example, one video had a guy pistol headshotting nearly everyone. I suck with the pistol, so obviously this won't work.

So here's my strategy:

- Sprint, Shoot the guy in the bathroom.
- Headshot (or at least hit) the guy on the left.
- Flashbang (#1) room where guys are running out. It should stun the entire room.
- Run past everyone, shoot ONLY if someone is blocking your path.
- You MUST shoot anyone who is standing on the right at the end of the first room.
- Sprint to the right, and run up against the bulkhead (not the chairs). Flashbang directly to your left (so don't flashbang (#2) the guys behind the wood, just turn 90 degrees to the left and flashbang yourself) - This is because the guys ahead of you are going to get sucked out of the plane, and you need to flashbang anyone who is in chase of you so your teammates can kill them.
- Reload here.
- Crouch towards the middle chairs, watch the right for that one guy, and kill the terrorists that run down the stairs. You will probably need to reload again before going up the stairs. (I usually hit the middle of the stairs around 0:25).
- Flashbang (#3) the left, all the way down the hall if possible. Shoot up those guys. Shoot through the wood to kill a few guys hiding back there.
- Reload
- Enter room (I liked to have :10 to do this part), flashbang down hallway and do a full sprint. I didn't have to kill anyone generally until the hallway turned.
- When you take the turn pray and spray, you should have a full clip to unload on these guys.
- Sprint to the end. I usually hit it with :04 or :03, depending on how quickly the two guys got out of my way.
- For the pistol part, I waited until around :02, when the hostage ducks down, and then the terrorist lifts his head up slowly. Aim high and pray.

My first 1000/1000 :)

Way to go man.

This seriously is one of the few video game accomplishments where you can really brag and be sure you earned the right. It is very very very difficult and takes a certain amount of luck in combination with a great deal of skill.

Mazel tov on the 1000/1000 ach pts too. The only game I've done this with is bioshock.

I got a 360 for Christmas, and my sister got me CoD4. My friend and I usually hate FPS but this game has us both addicted to multiplayer. A couple questions though.

I am not set up with Xbox Live yet so I have been playing split screen multiplayer with my friend, but find it a little limited. I have three controllers so far, but the best we can do is only FFA. So does anyone know if you can somehow get some computer AI in the death matches and team FFA in multiplayer? Also I heard rumors about making single player (story mode) into a co-op as well thanks to a Xbox live download.

And last is the lvl, and custom soldiers an Xbox live thing only?

Thanks for any help.
