Sounds about right to me. Now playing the role of WCW in this crazy wrestling love triangle, I present to you TNA.
I wouldn't mind the "Monday Night Wars" again. The only difference is that back then, Vince was a silent partner. With Heyman and Dreamer at the helm, I think that the arenas, entrances, etc will be taken care of.. just have to wonder if Vince will pony up for the themes.
But then again, if he was indeed the backer back then, he also paid for them then. The key factor is how much Vince wants to get involved. I know he'll deliver - he sure as hell did with ONS. But you have to wonder where he'll draw the line. At this point, ECW is set to be the #1 organization. Do you think Vince would let ECW come to the spotlight and put WWE on the backburner? No. But that's what throws me off. He's setting this up to be an absolutely phenomenal(sp?) return for ECW. Looking at the cast alone, I have no reason to continue watching WWE.
I wouldn't mind an "outsider" angle. It'd be fun to actually have believable wrestling angles again. Back in 1996, when I was like 10 or 11 and Hall and Nash came in from the outside, I actually believed that these guys were just going from arena to arena, beating the shit out of people. I got upset when Randy Anderson was fired and he brought his wife and kids onto Nitro to plea for his job. Those were the fun days.
Another thing that I'm worried about is the censoring. Blood probably won't be a problem on PPV, but what about language? I remember reading something about the guy who made ONS TV-14 catching serious hell for censoring them. And what of WWE stars? Foley said something about a barbed wire match coming this Monday, didn't he? Will WWE stars be forced to up their product to try to compete with ECW? Their own "civil war", if you will.. almost like WCW vs. nWo.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but damnit, I can't wait.
