[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here.

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!
Just got a new 3DS and my club nintendo code did not work. I have never redeemed one for a 3DS before. Is there anything I can do about this? I am not going to take it back to the retailer as that kinda seems ridiculous. But it is kinda bumming me out because it would have sent me into platinum staus and been enough for me to get Mario RPG.
You talking about the registration code for the 3DS itself? Try to register the serial on the back of the 3DS. MY code did not work as well but then I put the serial in and it was fine.
Do games bought with coins come in the form of a key, or do they add it to the console you have linked to your account?
You're given a code which you have to redeem on the eShop or Wii Shop.
Try contacting Nintendo and if you don't want to then returning it. Just tell the retailer when you registered it it was denied and Nintendo told you to return it. You shouldn't get screwed out of a 160 coins. You didn't have any broken seals on either side of the box?

When I first went to buy a 3DS XL at Frys I got to my car and noticed the seals were broken. I wasn't going to risk that the code was used cause it looked like a return. They told me the system was new but a return and didn't have another Mario Kart 7 bundle so I got refunded. Lesson learned Frys loves to sell opened box items with no orange sticker.
Seconding this. When I registered Kirby's Dream Collection, it added the game to my collection but didn't give me any coins. Later on I noticed that it was on the list of games that are supposed to give you coins. I emailed Nintendo about it and the registration survey popped up, even though it was supposed to be expired at that point. They are pretty good with customer service.

Thanks for the tips guys. I am thinking it probably was a return. I was able to register the console serial # on club nintendo but it still asked for the pin to recieve coins. It says the pin has been redeemed. I shot nintendo an email but I am doubting anything comes of it. Kind of sucks, don't really feel like returning it as I already have it out of the box with a screen protector on and bought links awakening on it.

OK just bought a 3DS XL as my first Nintendo system since DS Lite a few years ago. Registered, etc.

After my Fire Emblem comes in I should have over 200 coins. Super Mario RPG looks tempting to get for free even though I have no Wii or WiiU. How do rewards for Wii downloads work? Is it just a code to put in or do I have to download immediately after redemption?

I never owned a Wii and might buy a Wii U someday but given how Nintendo's online policies don't make sense, don't want to waste 200 coins. Thanks in advance.

Redeeming through the Wii, you get a download code. Then, you go to the Wii Shop Channel and I believe go to settings. Then there should be an option called "Redeem Ticket Code" then just enter the code you received from Club Nintendo. Then it'll download, and as far as I know you don't have to redeem immediately.

Just know that if you'd like to play it on the Wii U VC, rather than through the Wii VC, you're going to have to pay a $1.50 or so transfer fee. Your coins are good for two years, so if you're not in a hurry to play the game you might just want to wait until they start offering Wii U VC titles for redemption so you don't have to bother with the transfer fee.

You don't have to use it immediately. I had codes from last year that I just redeemed on my Wii. You can redeem them on the Wii U, you just have to go to the Wii U VC. As for clarification, you don't have to pay the $1.50 transfer fee, you can still play it normally but the Wii U VC adds some extras like being able to play it on the game pad rather than your tv. It's completely optional and not required.

I think you meant you have to go to the "Wii VC" to redeem them. You also have to play them through the Wii menu which means you have to have a Wii Classic Controller or Wii-Mote to play them. You can't access the Wii menu with the Wii U gamepad controls.

OK but I don't own a Wii or WiiU currently. If I redeem the coins for Mario RPG how long is the download code good for and can I even redeem the coins for that if I don't own a 3DS?

I may just save the coins and see if a different game for 3DS shows up. How often is the coin reward list updated?

Downloads don't expire to my knowledge, but as someone else said, you should be good for at least a year. You can definitely redeem the coins for any reward, since for the games you just get a download code, so no system required. New games are added the day after the listed expiration date, and you can see both that, and a full list of past games in this thread's OP:)

Please know that Mario RPG is a SNES game on Wii Virtual Console, and not a 3DS title, so 3DS has nothing to do with it (except maybe that's where your coins came from?). I just didn't want you to get it thinking it was a different title. You may want to check the list, because I'm not sure if they ever offer the same titles on Club Ninty, so this may be the only chance to trade coins for this title for a while. The code I got from Amazon when World of Goo came out (a few years back) was good when I redeemed it recently, so you won't have to worry about expiration if you plan to use within a few years.

Also, this title says it requires the classic controller, so the Wiimote won't work on Wii or Wii U (unless someone can confirm otherwise, contrary to the website).

is there a forum or somewhere i can trade to get some codes? im 80 shy of snagging mario rpg, but id rather not have to buy a bunch more wii games.
Also, this title says it requires the classic controller, so the Wiimote won't work on Wii or Wii U (unless someone can confirm otherwise, contrary to the website).
Wii U Gamepad & Wii U Pro Controller will not work on the Wii Menu app or anything accessed within the app, such as Wii games, VC games, etc. You'll have to use a Wiimote or Classic Controller in order to control and select things/games in the app.

Most SNES and newer VC games require a classic controller because the Wiimote doesn't have enough buttons.

Odd question, but when Nintendo ran the register the XL and one of two games promo, what was the registration date of the XL as compared to when the promo started? Was the registration date prior to the promo starting or at the same time? I bought a 3DS Xl but I'm debating whether to wait a bit to open it to see if they run something similar with Donkey Kong and/or Animal Crossing.

Can you transfer wii games to wii u now? I got SM64, SMRPG, and Mario Kart 64. Would rather have them look a little shaper and ability to play on the pad.

AFAIK only titles available on the Wii U Virtual Console can be transfered, which is a woefully low number at the moment. Then there is the $1-$1.50 fee, so you can weigh the pros vs cons. Here is a list of Wii U virtual console titles:
Odd question, but when Nintendo ran the register the XL and one of two games promo, what was the registration date of the XL as compared to when the promo started? It was only for systems registered on or after the promotion date. If you don't need the coins you can open the system and just don't register the pin/serial number until you want to.

I just went by a closing blockbuster today and bought a stack of ds cases for 5/$1 . I got 14 valid club codes in them!

is the animal crossing deck of cards worth it? debating if i should use my coins for them or wait for new rewards. the cards are like 3 years old now right?

I have a question regarding the Intend-to-Buy surveys and Product Registration. How soon after the release of the game do we have to register the game by? I just received my copy of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D from Kmart, but I wanted to hold off on registration until next month's Club Nintendo Rewards are announced or possibly in July to count towards Gold / Platinum Status for next year's Reward (I reached Platinum for this year).

The site says 4 weeks, but I've done some WAY later than that, and it still counted the extra 10 coins. So, at minimum, 4 weeks.
man i want SMRPG so bad. i might have to go see if i can find some not used codes anywhere.
Ditto that, except I used up any spare codes already and I'm still short.

I somehow managed to get enough for RPG, my next concern is somehow finding 60pts for plat. I love Nintendo, but I don't feel the love back sometimes when it gets back

Considering there's about a month left until the reward year ends (June 31st), maybe wait to see if they'll announce the prize for reaching Platinum (Gold will most likely be a calendar again, it's ALWAYS been a calendar) in a couple of weeks.

Are the Platinum rewards usually worth while? First time I've owned a Nintendo system since they started this here and I guess I'm only 70 points short. Should I be watching for killer sales or clearance hunting to make sure I get there?

there is a list of them in the OP. As of late they have been getting progressively less amazing, though if you are a big nintendo fan it might be worth it just for a collector's item regardless. This has to be the millionth time I've said it, but if you are short on points, it's worth a shot at gamestop with used Wii Fit copies. 100 points a piece, and for only $1 it's a low risk if it's already been redeemed. If nothing else you've gotten a spare box;)

Read the OP. previous years platinum and gold rewards are mentioned there. If your only 70 points short theres no reason not to aim for platinum.

Well the last couple of years we've gotten lame stuff, but Japan has gotten some decent things, so you might as well. Worse case you sell the item and probably break even.

especially since you can go for the gold prize anyways

My bad, I read that and even looked at the links and somehow it just didn't click. Can see what you mean about the quality going downhill.
