[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I just hope its fresh games. Tired of waiting only to see stuff thats been given before.

I'm sitting on about 700 coins, unredeemed copies of X/Y and 2 3DS XL's and nothing to spend them on. (In retrospect I wish I had gotten a green XL cradle)

I've got 700 too. :) I also thought about the green cradle, but I spent too much time wondering if I wanted/needed it, and then it sold out. :p

not a coin or club nintendo deal but Europe just got a link to the past on the Wii u virtual console so hopefully we get it soon and upgrade it for a buck!

Wazzup, you probably have only a few minutes to decide since the story is about to update.

To anyone who is getting Sakura Samurai for their reward, I'd love to trade for it. I have CN codes/points if you need them.

Oh well. 1.50 then! that's if it launches this week :(wish they released it right before ALBW
Yeah, I was hoping they were going to release the game a week or two before ALBW as well. I wanted to play through the game before playing the 3DS game, but if they decide to release it on the NA eShop this Thursday, I'm okay with that. I did get the game via Club Nintendo so at least it'll only cost me $1.50 to have it on the Wii U.

Alright I pulled the trigger. LTTP is the only main console game I haven't played and so I feel I should before playing Link Between Worlds

Also: The Wii Shop Channel is undergoing maintenance... I thought it was just the eShop?

Yeah, it says Dec 9 on the page now.  Annoying.

Have you guys played A Link to the Past recently?  Yes, awesome game, but my nostalgia filtered out how tediously frustrating it can be at specific points.  I sure don't remember that from when I was a kid.  And that battle with Ganon made me want to punch a hole in the wall.  Glad I replayed it, would like to play it again, but frankly do not see me playing it again anytime soon.  I had to use a walkthrough to get through the last couple dungeons, despite the fact that I'd beaten it as a kid (without a walkthrough somehow??).

I play games for fun, not to be taxed to the point of needing a walkthrough or frustrated to the point of wanting to destroy physical objects.

Anyway, my only point, for me at least: great game, but my nostalgia definitely made me forget about certain aspects of it and just remember the good bits.

All puzzles were unclear back then cause of graphics but we were used to them.  Also it's very likely you might have used a strategy guide or just never beat it.  I had the same experience w/ OoS & OoA, the difference between game puzzles now and back then is the fact that there are no real puzzles in most AAA modern games.

Games didn't hold your hand for your while you played back then. People are now used to games just telling you where to go.
Pretty much, which is why A Link Between Worlds is such a breath of fresh air. The Wii U Zelda needs to take some major cues from its 3DS counterpart.

I think it's more than just that, personally.

A Link Between Worlds doesn't really hold your hand.  I don't think it's as difficult, either, though.

But it's not really the puzzles that game me problems in LInk to the Past; it's the dungeon layouts, the vast amounts of enemies, and once you get to Death Mountain, there are absurd riding platform bits that are tedious and just require trial and error. And, again, the last battle with Ganon made me feel like I was being told to pick up rice with chopsticks with a time limit.

I definitely beat it back in the day.  I even beat the first Zelda as a kid.  I have no idea how.  It certainly gave me a challenge recently (again, needed to use a walkthrough and map).  (Zelda 2, I certainly never beat as a kid, and I think it's a miracle I beat it recently.)

I don't enjoy frustration at all.  I do remember getting super pissed off as a kid, just never at Zelda 3.  Link's Awakening has some absurd dungeons near the end, too, but, again that's just the dungeon layout.

Yeah, it says Dec 9 on the page now. Annoying.
All four shops (WiiU, 3DS, Wii, DSi) are down for maintenance until 11 PM EST, so even if the games updated today you wouldn't be able to redeem any of them until then. That's why the update got pushed back a day.

Sorry, I was replying to the posts prior to this one. I agree that A Link Between Worlds is a breath of fresh air. I haven't finished it yet, but I don't think it's as difficult as Zelda 3. However, I think that is also partly due to excellent design in A Link Between Worlds. It doesn't rely on anything tedious or outright hard for the sake of being hard. I'm not saying it's better than A Link to the Past, just saying A Link to the Past has, I think, some design elements that I found exceedingly, life-alteringly frustrating.

I'm still waiting for an account that will let me use my eShop games on both my 3DS and XL....I have a feeling I'll be waiting a loooong time with Nintendo. Ugh...

Anyone know what the Club Nintendo games will be next?

I don't quite remember being too frustrated playing Link to the Past, but it has been 10 years since I last played it. Even when I played it on emulator in college though, I didn't find it too frustrating, and I never used any walkthroughs except the one time I wanted to collect all heart pieces. I think the only dungeon I ever remember being a bit annoyed with was the ice dungeon, but I can't recall why.

I do recall being VERY frustrated with Link's Awakening though. As a kid without much access to internet (and even if I did, pre-gamefaqs), I had to struggle with some extremely annoying dungeon and design choices without any assistance. I remember being frustrated trying to find the 4 bowling balls to knock down the tower dungeon, or figuring out that I needed to throw certain deck of card items or horse heads to make them match. There were so many great things about playing such a deep game on handheld, but man was LA obtuse. The trading game was pretty annoying as well...

I agree that overall design for Link Between Worlds is better than either of these aforementioned games. The dungeons were not always simple, but they never frustrated me either. I was able to figure out each puzzle without spending too much time, so the flow was perfect for me without holding my hand or being overly simple.

Totally agreed. And if you ever play A Link to the Past again, think of me. :) And shoot me a PM letting me know how it goes. For me, the Ice Dungeon is where it all went to heck. I think the thieves' dungeon is before that, and that gets a little confusing and even hard, but then the ice dungeon is really annoying. And then it progressively goes beyond annoying to just plain mean.

The Link's Awakening tower dungeon is the one where I finally gave up and started using not just a map but also a walk-through. There were other things I disliked about that game, too, like when you'd accidentally walk into a certain thing (like something you couldn't lift) and have to read the screen of text telling you it's heavy, read the text every single time you got the map/key/compass... I know we can't be too harsh, and it is an amazing game in so many ways.

Anyway, for me, A Link Between Worlds removes the niggles I disliked about the previous 2D Zeldas (haven't played the DS ones). I miss the sprite-based graphics, though. :)

I don't know, maybe it's me, but I still feel A Link to the Past holds up to this day. I never found it frustrating when I was young, and still don't to this day.

But I do agree with you that A Link Between Worlds isn't as difficult as A Link to the Past and that's okay. I don't think the game had to be difficult to be enjoyable and if you want a higher difficulty level, at least they give the option to replay the game in Hero Mode (even though that should of been available from the start).

I hope this maintenance really is to unify the accounts.  That would be nice.  I don't suppose they're going to surprise us with cross-play or an actual, honest to gosh account system, but that would be nice too.

Anyway I'd imagine new games will be tomorrow, which is lucky for folks who still want to get the old games today!

I don't think the game had to be difficult to be enjoyable and if you want a higher difficulty level, at least they give the option to replay the game in Hero Mode (even though that should of been available from the start).
No, it definitely holds up, no doubt about that. It's a fantastic game. Maybe that's what makes the parts I dislike all the more upsetting. The battle with Ganon is deliberately annoying, as are the platforming puzzles in the volcano. I just don't think that's fun, and never have. I didn't remember any of it, though, except the battle with Ganon. I do remember being immensely frustrated with that as a kid. And that third temple in the light world, where you fight the worm that keeps knocking you off--that is sort of notorious (but not quite as rage-inducing as Ganon).

where did you hear it isn't miiverse D:
I misread @jesse_dylan's post as confirmation that it wasn't coming. Sorry! I've been frantically scouring the internet trying to find some confirmation, but haven't seen any. Hopefully it is, though.

Miiverse lacks friend requests and messaging on the 3DS, so I don't see the hype for it.
Hmmmmmm. @Admirial Don't falsely rain on the parade. Is this true? Doing away with the friends code bullshit is what I'm most looking forward to.

A while back (month or two) I did an article about this message I saw someone post. I guess they noticed screens of the Miiverse lacked the social functionality found on the Wii U version and asked NoA about it. A rep from NoA said that the Miiverse would not include these features and they had no plans to implement them.

This falls in line with them removing/limiting SwapNote over child predators (or something along these lines) and might be their justification for removing it from Miiverse. Since that comment came out, it has pretty much been assumed the 3DS version of the Miiverse would lack said features, if only for the foreseeable future.

So, it's one of those situations where, things COULD have changed, but they probably haven't.

I think all this update is going to do is unify people's 3DS and Wii U eShops (unified "wallet") via the addition of Nintendo Network ID to the 3DS.

And frankly, I haven't seen any proof that the downtime is even going to implement that much!

I blame those teenagers for sending photos of their genitals to each other.  It's all their fault.  And Tetsuya Nomura no doubt had a part in it as well.

So wait a damn second, my kids are both getting a 3ds xl for Christmas and I'm going to register them to my account for the points and warranty extension, how the hell does this work? I don't want them sharing their points. Is this Club Nintendo based or some other account?

It will just make accounts work like they do on PSN / XBL like they should have already done.

I think you can still do that. They'll all need their own Nintendo ID things for each system anyway. It just unifies the eShops based on the Nintendo Network ID. So I'm Jesse_Dylan (or something), and I sign in that way to both my 3DS and Wii U, and then my $$ balance is the same on both, and when I spent on one, my balance goes down on both, etc.

Should pave the way to a "real" account system, I hope. But I don't know if Club Nintendo is affected really or how if it is.

It sure is taking them a long time to get the rewards out this year.  I guess when they say "by the end of 2013" they really mean THE END of 2013.  I'm very anxious to get my Zelda CD and stick it on the shelf next to the pin set I have and never open it.

Yeah, I don't even remember picking my reward, if I did in fact pick anything at all.

A Link Between Worlds has one of the best soundtracks in video game history. I wouldn't mind a Club Nintendo digital MP3 download of the complete soundtrack.
