[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

If they give out Oracle of Ages & Seasons, then I'll grab one and my friend will grab the other. We've both been waiting til we had time to play them together and there was a sale, but if they're free we'll do it that way.

An amiibo would be cool. I missed out on redeeming the playing cards by one day. I called up nintendo ... sorry... your a day late.

I have since made the decision within the first day they get announced.

Grrrrrr Only 120 Coins away from Day 1 Platinum Status like I wanted ......oh well, guess its a good thing with Smash Bros, Toad, Pokemon, Lego Batman 3 and Bayonetta 2 all this year............NINTENDO IS BACK BABY!!!!!

Only 25 coins to Platinum status for this coming year, mainly because I have no idea where my Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, and Zelda: Link Between Worlds codes are.

Hooray, already hit Platinum for this year!

But here's something troubling - my To-Do list shows the registration deadline for Sin & Punishment: Star Successor as being June 27th of 2015.  However, when I went to register it just now, it gave me the following message:

"Sorry! Registration for this game has expired. Thank you for your interest in Nintendo products."

When I went to investigate matters in the FAQ, I then found this, which oddly enough, specifically mentions the game I was trying to register:

  • Current software has a registration timeframe of four years from the game's initial release date. So, for example, all PINs included with Sin & Punishment: Star Successor (released 6/27/10) will expire on 6/27/14.

If this is true, then the entirety of my To-Do list deadlines are off by one year, and this will be a giant problem for some people.  HOWEVER, I also registered The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box today, both of which my To-Do list said were expiring this year.  Looking back at their release dates, it will have been five years from their release date this year, and not four, and I was able to register those just fine without any problem.  So, is the FAQ wrong and Sin & Punishment is an anomaly, or do we really have four years and are the DS games I just registered the anomaly?  If it's the latter, then I assume that *everyone's* To-Do list deadlines are actually off by a year, and mass chaos will ensue.  What's going on?

Would it really have ANY effect on the market? You figure, the average platinum status Club Nintendo member is a "hardcore" gamer who most likely already owns a Wii U and doesn't need to be swayed to support your products. Naturally giving them a special Amiibo would increase morale / give people that special happy feeling that Nintendo cares or thinks they're special, but it would not move Wii U systems in any real sense.
I don't imagine it would move many systems either, of course not. However, I do believe it would get people exited about the Amiibo system. Are you sold on them? I know I'm not, & I know plenty of people who could care less about them.
Although I plan to buy them, I'm still pretty much waiting on more information on how they will work & their price. Getting one in my hands would potentially change that. And although that doesn't help the selling of Wii U system sales directly, this move might at least help their sales in general.

Anyway, like I said I may be hoping for it but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh, man. I still had a ton of Wii games to register. So lame.

If my Wii U survey doesn't have an expiration, I am curious if I can hold onto that for when I need the coins

That does indeed sound troubling, Kirin. Gotta look into that.

Anyway, for those who haven't already gone crazy registering all their codes, a bit of advice to keep in mind: any eshop purchases you make are automatically registered. So if you reach 600 coins now, anything you get from the eshop for the next year will have no value (as far as reaching Golg/Platinum goes). Your physical codes can be registered at any time, so maybe hold your cards until the chips are down, so to speak.

Okay, so I plan on getting Pikmin 3 as my download game. I already registered the retail copy under my main account, so how would I go about still getting points for the download version if my main Club Nintendo account is linked up with the eShop?

I think someone mentioned you can get points for both a retail and downloadable version of the same game, but can someone confirm this? My Pikmin 3 survey just showed up in my account as a to do item, but I didn't have the retail version.

I don't imagine it would move many systems either, of course not.
Yet your quote implies otherwise "I thought of the Amiibo simply because Nintendo is actually trying to sell the Wii U finally." If you don't think it would move systems, then how would it help Nintendo "sell the Wii U?" It might help move Amiibo, but thats not what you said, nor is that something I am going to bicker about.

Are you sold on them? I know I'm not, & I know plenty of people who could care less about them
Don't you pretty much answer your own question here?

I'm still pretty much waiting on more information on how they will work & their price.
How can you be excited about something you know very little about? Sure you could assume a lot, but I have no reason to be excited, thus I am not excited. It's a very logical response to this situation. Furthermore, you pretty much confirm what I said about Nintendo not having to sell to you, since you yourself admitted you're planning "to buy them" even though you know nothing about them.

Getting one in my hands would potentially change that. And although that doesn't help the selling of Wii U system sales directly, this move might at least help their sales in general.
For this to matter on any level, we would have to figure the figure prior to Amiibo releasing. If not, then we will already know what to expect and giving out an indeterminate amount of figures won't change that.

I think someone mentioned you can get points for both a retail and downloadable version of the same game, but can someone confirm this? My Pikmin 3 survey just showed up in my account as a to do item, but I didn't have the retail version.
You can have both and it will happen automatically.

Now that you mention it, that sounds right. For the games you intend to buy, it shows a download option and retail option for the same games. Thanks. :D

Yikes,

If that is the case, then I'm losing out on a lot of codes I've been saving up. After I give the site a day or two to stabilize (it is usually wonky around the first day of the new club year) I will do my Mario Kart codes, then see what else is on my To-Dos. I think I still have stuff like Mario Kart DS on my To-Do and that is well over 4 years old.

I'm pretty sure I never registered Sin & Punishment either - and I probably have several of the codes from various trade-in deals and such.

Edit: Just checked my account. I had a post-play survey for Dragon Quest IX that expired in a few days so I'm glad I checked.

I tried a few of my To-Dos:

Wii Fit Plus expires Oct 4th, and was released Oct 4th, 2009 (so that would be 5 years). It registered just fine. I got 110 coins for it in fact - I think this was a code I got from a used copy at Gamesotp and it must have been for the full set and not just the game itself, even though that's all I bought ;).

NSMB Wii: expires Nov. 15th (and came out 5 years ago from that date). Registered just fine - got 60 points.

I do have Sin & Punishment on my list but I can't seem to find the code. I'll keep looking for it. I'm also tempted to try some really old game like NSMB DS which came out in 2006 to see if they really make them expire. I've never seen that before and wonder if it is a new thing. I know the ones on my To-Do list are just ones I did Intend to Buy for, so I thought it was just the Intend to Buy that was expiring by that date. I didn't think the whole code became invalid.

Could be that it used to be more than 4 years and now it's only 4 years. If so, they might not have retroactively applied the new date to everything.

A CD would be fine with me. Missed out on the MM & OOT soundtracks, so wouldn't mind being able to get a different soundtrack.
I wouldn't mind a Super Mario 3D World OST.
Seriously, a CD is way better than a set of pins. I can actually use and enjoy a CD but here's to hoping for an exclusive amiibo, right? I mean, it'll never happen but they did that statue one year, maybe they'll do it to get people excited for wii and the amiibos.
I wouldn't mind a CD again as long as it's not a re-release of a 13 year old album this time.
I've said it before, if they do offer another CD soundtrack as a reward, go with DKCTF and I'd be ecstatic.

No wait, that's too much enthusiasm to make it possible, I'll tone it down to not hating it if it was...
:puke:

Yet your quote implies otherwise "I thought of the Amiibo simply because Nintendo is actually trying to sell the Wii U finally." If you don't think it would move systems, then how would it help Nintendo "sell the Wii U finally?" It might help move Amiibo, but thats not what you said, nor is that something I am going to bicker about.

Don't you pretty much answer your own question here?

How can you be excited about something you know very little about? Sure you could assume a lot, but I have no reason to be excited, thus I am not excited. It's a very logical response to a very logical situation. Furthermore, you pretty much confirm what I said about Nintendo not having to sell to you, since you yourself admitted you're planning "to buy them" even though you know nothing about them.

For this to matter on any level, we would have to figure the figure prior to Amiibo releasing. If not, then we will already know what to expect and giving out an indeterminate amount of figures won't change that.
The number one complaint I read about the system is there not being enough good games to buy a wii u, yet people who don't own Wii Us are not the only ones saying this. People who own it say it too. While there are a few games for the Wii U I want still, I only have about 5 or 6 games for it. Having an Amiibo as a reward could potentially bring more game/pre-order sales for games that take advantage of the figures. More wii u game sales=more Wii U sales. Talking about selling the Wii U doesn't always have to mean selling the system. You still have to sell your game products to your Wii U customers.

I didn't want to assume your answer.

I'm not sold. I said I was waiting on more info. I have the desire to buy them, but am not sold (in hindsight, I could have made that clearer but I figured saying I was waiting on more info was enough).

I don't agree with that, since I personally don't always like to take others opinions at face value. In this case, I would rather have the item in my hand & try it out that way than read about it if the figure were to come after we received it. That is a personal taste, but I imagine I am not alone in that thinking. Which is why we have demos for both Disney infinity & Skylanders in stores.

But again, this argument is useless. Since we both are aware this will more than likely not happen. I just choose to be less pessimistic about it.

Could be that it used to be more than 4 years and now it's only 4 years. If so, they might not have retroactively applied the new date to everything.
But it isn't *everything*, because like I said, I just registered Spirit Tracks and Layton and the Diabolical Box, and both of those are over four years old. All three games showed up in my to-do list, and had a deadline within this next Club Nintendo year, but only Sin & Punishment didn't work anymore.

Edit: Ah, sorry, I misread the "might not have applied the new date to everything" part. Entirely possible. What a mess, I may have to register everything set to expire next year during THIS year, just to be safe. Lame.

not enough good games hmmmm i would argue that as a core gamer and a gamer that p[lays ALL games and doesnt judge i will say as far as systems the wii u has the most games at the money from the next gen systems

I had a similiar problem earlier I'm the year. Some games I registered that were older worked, others were expired. Perhaps this holds true only for games that came out around or after Sin & Punishment? Who knows...it's confusing.

OK, I just registered a NSMB DS (a game that came out in 2006) and got 40 coins for it. It had not expired. So I don't know what it is with the 4 or 5 year thing and why S&P seems to have expired (I haven't found my code yet).

And in all this messing around I'm nearly at Gold for the next year already and I haven't even entered my 2 Mario Kart 8 codes and their accompanying free digital games!

Ah, apparently I still have New Super Mario Bros DS on my To-Do list (I registered the other on a sub-account) and it is good until May 15th, 2016. So that one got 10 years I guess. It seems like everything else is 5 years, including newer things (like Bravely Default and such). The 4 years on S&P seems like a glitch now.

Looking at my To-Do History it seems like I have lost several games because I didn't know the years they expired (they used to not show that). For example, both of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness games. I am going to try one of these now to be sure...

OK, this is freaking bizarre. So I had my To-Do registrations for both Time/Darkness (which came out in 2008 - so it has been 6 years now) expire on my main account. When I try to enter the codes, it doesn't even acknowledge that I am entering an expired code. It just resets to the code entry screen like I put in a string of random letters.

HOWEVER, when I register it on my daughter's sub-account, I am able to register and get the points for this expired game. So apparently I guess the games expire for you if you did the Intend to Buy all those years ago. If you did not mark them as "Intend to Buy" then you can still register these older games. How bizarre. I could see the 10 point bonus expiring, but it seems ridiculous of them to exclude them entirely.

As an aside: Crap - apparently I've let lots of post-play and even product registrations for digital games expire. I guess that happens when you only log in to Club Nintendo once every few months

I'm going to do everyone a favor and just walk away from the argument. However, I do want to point out that you were the more pessimistic one.

This is how I feel about it as well, the Wii U has the most good exclusive games of any next gen system right now, and for at least the next year. So many games for Ps4/XB1 have been delayed, and currently both systems have little to offer. With backwards compatibility offering a chance to play Wii games as well (of which I have found many on the cheap at GameStop) and right now it offers far and away the best value of any consoles. I am no Nintendo fanboy either, just some one who has been very pleasantly surprised by the Wii U, and disappointed by the output for the other consoles.

I guess hoping for an Amiibo figure or an SNES classic controller, & not telling everyone to lower their expectations or they'll be dissapointed is now considered pessimistic.
I must be reading the wrong dictionary.

I didn't say I share the same complaint. :p
I still prefer my wii u over the other systems, which is why I bought it first. :)

I'm not entirely sure where to do this, but I don't need the free game that came with my Mario Kart 8. You can choose which one you want between the 4 games available. I'm asking $20 paypal.

I don't have time (i wish I had) to read all of those arguments you people have here, but I say the Wii U is the best current gen console right now. Reasons?

Here:

- Best exclusives (3d world, MK8, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Zelda, W101, etc, etc)

- It's more cheaper than PS4 & XBOX one

- Free online services

- Gamepad (off tv play is very useful, also makes some games better)

- Multiple controller options

- Backwards Compatibility

- Upcoming games (Splatoon, Smash, Zelda, bayonetta, Star Fox, etc)

Pretty sure that's overly optimistic still for CN. If they don't sneak into your house at night and take your kidney you should consider yourself lucky.

Oh, man, I'd be thrilled with an exclusive Amiibo figure. That would actually be perfect for CN. Thus it won't happen...

Any Amiibo figures CN produces will most likely not be a reward for this year's platinum status. IT'll either be on par with the Luigi statue, or maybe a reward for next year depending on how well the Amiibo figures do.

Nobody said the Amiibo figures will do well. For all we know they might be the tipping point in oversaturating the market between Skylanders, Infinity, and the lesser known ones like I see for tablets.

I'd like to see more games offered. I've got both of the Game & Watch DS games still sealed. I'd like more exclusive games released. Or more digital....there's no reason they can't do more than 4 (although, their definition of expiration dates in CN needs work). There's no reason they couldn't offer full retail game downloads via CN, or the GBA games given to Ambassadors. Those would make CN a very attractive idea.

Despite what the internet may seem like, most people have not even heard of Club Nintendo, and don't know what to do with it anyways. Almost every time I buy a used game, if it has a CN code, the code is valid. Almost every time.

So this is weird. New year so I went about registering the games I'd been holding off on since I hit Platinum. One of those was a used copy of Pokemon Y. I entered the code and it told me it was used. Thought that was that. Then I started going through my To Do History list and hidden in the middle of the page was the registration survey for Pokemon Y, filled it out and got the points.

It probably went through twice or something.

More likely the cause was by you, but who cares, at least you got the points. :)

Your first code or post play survey may show  "- - coins earned", but when you click on the main page it should reflect the proper amount of coins were added. I just did a post play survey and I thought WTF?, but after I clicked on the home page the 10 coins showed.

So annoyed with myself. Forgot to put in enough codes for Platinum. With my luck, there will be something I actually want this year.

May the luck of those who have fallen short of platinum by accident yield something glorious for those who have not.

Take one for the team.

Heads up - a bunch of Club Nintendo codes are expiring this year (4 years from release - it is on the fine print of the code sheets and something I never noticed before). If you have Intend To Buy's on them, it will show you have 5 years on your To-Do's, but that is a lie. The codes will expire a year before that.

Next up is Dragon Quest IX DS on July 11th (9 days!).

I made a list just out of codes that I own and put it in the other thread:
