Crackdown 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Out Now!

Awesome. I knew someone would figure out a glitch for it. It even looks like it would work online!

Totally gonna have to do this today

Edit: Did it, works fine in MP. Got up to level 4 Agility before I realized the timer had started at some point (started by my friend: see below).

Ironically this glitch makes the demo seem much more fun. I still don't know if I'd buy it, but it gives it a much more positive light since there's no rush to do anything or unlock something before you can have any fun.

What the guy doesn't say in the video (but says on the YouTube page) is that you CAN NOT START ANY RACES! This will start the timer! Any/everything else is kosher!
Just got back from playing the crackdown demo and have to say I am a little disappointed. The visuals don't look like leaps and bounds beyond the original and in fact I think they look worse as the color form the city looks depleted. Its a little sad to see that its set in the same location as the last game.

Dont think I will be buying this game.
the ps2 graphics didn't bring nostalgia?

Orb collecting aside, I am pretty disappointed with this game. The graphics are on par with the first one and the controls are last gen. I really hope this does not represent the final product.

The thing i didnt like was how slow the aiming is, and there is no option to make it faster. I just feel so slow trying to aim at someone. The rest seems cool.

The demo definitely is a lot better if you go past the 30 minutes. I spent 3 hours collecting orbs and it was much more fun than trying to beat the clock.

How do you get past the clock?

FYI: This is the pre-order bonus from Best Buy:

Sorry for the fuzzy image...you get 4 exclusive suits: Gold, Gunmetal, Black, and Green. Code is found inside the pre-order case.

Sadly I dont think much will change with only about 2 weeks left until release.

Man, that sucks. I want gold and gunmetal, but I'm far from finishing Crackdown 1, so I'm certainly not preordering. I'm sure they'll make those suits available on the marketplace later. Hopefully, they won't be too expensive.

yeah.. the visuals look worse and it feels like the same damn game as the first, but with zombies/mutated people (why? i never bothered to find out the story). The lock-on aiming is cool, the inability to switch targets with the right thumbstick while locked on is not cool. I picked up Transformers instead. I'll probably give this one a rent, but it's literally a copy and paste job, just in a new city.

I saw on GAF that Ruffian (the developer) claimed they finished the dev cycle on Crackdown 2 in 8 months... it shows.

I'd say this demo is a clear representation of the final product.

Honestly, Scorch, that doesn't bother me much since the first game is really, really fun. Before I owned it, I played the demo a lot more than I did some of the retail games I owned. But since I haven't finished the first and there are a bunch of new games coming out that I want, there's no sense in getting it now when I wouldn't be dedicating much time to it, and I can get it cheaper later.

Of course, the demo may make me not want the game at all, but I'm doubting (and hoping) that is not the case.

i only played 5 hours of the first one. it felt like assassination missions was the only real missions. nothing else. or maybe it become more missions but it didn't feel that way.

im going to try the tick to play the demo, but its going to b hard becuase im using a cord and it doesn't pop out as fast/easily as the usb

Just put the $5 down to get the code, then take your receipt back to Best Buy a day or so later to get your refund, you keep the code and whenever you decide to buy the game you'll be good to go.

Played the demo without the time limit and it was pretty fun. I like that the main means of progression in the game has been changed up from entering the large lairs of the bosses to take them out and turned that into numerous, smaller encounters. The zombies only seem to be there to make leveling up your driving skills easier than it was in the first game. Driving still mostly sucks.

The guns you unlock by upgrading your guns and explosives skills are amazing, though they weren't great for the demo since I had driven away most of the zombies and cell so there wasn't much to shoot but agents or civilians.

Oh, cool. I didn't know I could do that. Thanks for letting me know.

I really don't see where all the hate for the graphics is coming from. Granted, it's been a long time since I played the first, but they seemed fine to me. Nothing mind blowing, but I certainly wouldn't say they are terrible or PS2-esque. New suit of armor is bad ass

The lock on does take a bit of getting used to, but after playing the demo a couple times, I rarely have the problem. I still get the same giddy feeling running around, jumping huge heights and blowing shit up that I got in the first one. I have a pre-order on Amazon for under $50, and I doubt I'm going to cancel it. I had a ton of fun running through the demo with a buddy and getting all the demo achievements.

That's exactly my point - the first was really, really, fun and I put many, many, many hours into it getting all of the agility orbs and everything.. and playing this feels like I'm playing the same game over again. That's not a terrible thing, but that's not a "must-have-at-launch" thing either.

This probably sums up how I feel exactly, other than hating the new parts of the game like the freaks and the ever constant annoying narrator. To me, it's like they took the first game and now made it slightly worse.

Yikes. I'm not hearing much love for this demo. I will try it tonight. I, like most others who played the first game, loved it. But, I will probably wait for a price drop on this new one, depending on how the demo looks.

Played for a few hours (w/out the timer) and maxed out all the skills. I couldn't really see what the benefit of the glide suit was. It speeds up your descent and reduces your jumping distance. If you fly over a fan it pushes you way up into the air, but mostly vertically so you can't really get anywhere. There will probably be uses in some linear cases, but as a general use it seems pointless. I was expecting it to be like the glide in Prototype or the hover in inFAMOUS.

Add me to the list of the less-than-impressed with the demo. Just didn't feel like enough has been added to the game. I had it on pre-order, but I'm probably going to cancel and wait for sub-$20 prices.

i thought people would have wanted zombies? people complained that theres to many pedestrians and you kill them a lot, then they give us these zombies that we can destroy and we complain about them.

i tried the trick 5 times and just couldn't time them right.

im not fond of the shooting

Same thing I felt after playing this for about an hour. I might rent it, but definitely not a day one purchase for me.

I absolutely loved the first game but I'm really on the fence about the demo. The aiming seems kind of clunky now that you can't aim between multiple targets with the right stick. I still had fun with the demo but for some reason it just doesn't feel as fluid as the original. I might hold off on this for a price break.

Ok, I was gonna do the time glitch just now and as I boot it up there's a title update/patch. WTF? I hope they didn't patch the timer exploit..that would be really retarded.

EDIT: Yep, confirmed. They patched it. I wonder what kind of company actually has the time to patch a demo. Makes me wonder if they're sitting on their thumbs right now instead of polishing the final release or working on DLC.

Just played the new demo/ I really liked the first Crackdown. This one has similar graphics and guess that was what there were aiming for. Game does seem the same just with extra zombies, kind of cool. Probably get it on sale later on.

I'll be very interested when/if there are problems with the full game if it gets patched that quickly.

I have yet to play the demo, but if its basically similar to the first one (which i really liked) i would be a bit disappointed. My only complaints about the first one was the co-op multiplayer was kind of useless, i expected more online game modes. There was no storyline, other than taking out a bunch of gangs. if its similar, i'll probably wait till a price drop

MS farmed out the DLC to another developer, so they have plenty of time to put out an update.

If its done then they should release the damn thing to those of us that are salivating in anticipation. From what I've read on various boards, the demo didn't win over any new fans. If they didn't play the first one or didn't like it, then they're pretty much hating on 2 and the demo. But those of use that relished every single orb in the first one are waiting patiently while they patch the demo?

I have a feeling that this game will drop in price very fast but I don't think I can wait. After gift card and promos I'll be getting it for $30. Fair price, right?

Downloaded it and played. You can only play co-op with people on your friends list, how do you set one up w/ random people online? This zombie/freak addition seems like a useless gimmick. Otherwise this seems very similar to the first one. 3 years since the original, i wouldve expected better.

I'm really on the fence after that demo, graphically about the same or worse and aiming took a turn for the worst. Not really what i was expecting here, can't say i'm thrilled that it is in the same city too.

I played the demo and loved it, shame it only lets you play for 30 minutes but I went and traded a bunch of games in towards it and paid it off, cant wait for the 6th.

So do you only get 30 min total or just 30 min at a time. I know its a dumb questions but it popped into my mind.
So do you only get 30 min total or just 30 min at a time. I know its a dumb questions but it popped into my mind.
30 minutes at a time. Once the clock hits zero, you have to reload it and start from the beginning again

Gotcha. I just finished my 30 min just now.

This demo kinda pisses me off. Its clear that they didnt really do that much (maybe retail will be different but I doubt it) to improve upon the first one. The graphics do look worse for some odd reason and the aiming is horrid now. I couldnt figur out how to simply which targets...I spent a lot time shooting at cars inches away from a freak with a shotgun blasting my face in.

BUT. I had a amazing time with the first one and the first time I jumped to get a orb I was hooked. I will wind up getting this but only for a good price. I rarely spend more than 40 bucks for any game and I will be damned to spend even that for this seemingly copy and paste job.

I also dislike the fact that its in the same city. Now I dont know if it has the exact same layout as before....I dont remember ever being in a harbor like that but it seems like this game doesnt have enough new elements. I can only hope that the retail has something more to offer.....although like I said I will most likely pick this up.

Established Orb-collecting/Mayhem superhero/cop sim formula + Zombies + Co-Op (probably why the graphics are worse, to account for up to 4 players simultaneously/drop-in drop-out)= Crackdown 2. Not necessarily a bad thing. Depends on what you want in a sequel. Uncharted 2 this is not, but I will devour it nonetheless.

Just got back from KMart and they had it in stock. Only 3 copies. Decided to roll the dice and try to buy it and was shut down by the POS system
Anyone know where we can get the Green Armor? I don't see that in the pre order bonus.
Best Buy

Have any walmarts in your area? I bought a copy on June 28th :hot:

Then how does the game compare to the demo?

The game feels just like the demo with the exception of leveling up your skills. It feels like it goes slower. So far I've collected 175/500 Agility orbs and I can jump to a height of 25 feet. I'm not a fan of all the zombies in the game, some areas are just swamped with them. Although it makes for a lot of fun when you have a vehicle nearby.
