the bad news
it isn't RADICALLY different from GTA. Controls are a bit awkward at first, targeting especially needs some work. I'm hoping there is more of a story to it than killing the next higher guy in the gang. This game also screams mmo community, like a real PVP type of thing where you are fighting for turf with your own clan vs other clans on a server. Co op sounds cool though.
the good news
seems like more of an evolution of GTA than a knock-off. It was pretty straightforward as far as telling you what you need to do next, and gives you more than a few options about how to tackle things. Wasn't able to do online co op because the one jerk hosting a game kept kicking me off. Damn good looking game, though I see it getting heat for going for a more comic-book cartoony look than photorealism.
Anyone else had thier controller freak out on them while playing the demo? The ring of light on my controller lit 1 and 4 then swapped to 2 and 3 going back and forth a few times. Did it again right before I shut down my 360 remotely, then decided I needed to reconnect my controller.

Never had it do that before.
how long have you had your console? it spins the ring of lights to tell you the wireless controller is running low on juice.
Wow...just wow! Didn't expect this title to be that good. Thought it was just another mindless free-roaming romp game like GTA3 or Saints Row. There's a lot of substance here.

Good to know people still do their research.
I wonder how many morons are going to download this thinking that the demo will somehow get them a beta invite.
That doesnt exactly make someone a moron. Depending on if i like the demo, ill buy the game to get into the halo 3 beta as well, but otherwise i wont. So my chances of getting a beta invite all depends on how good this demo is
IT took me an hour and 10 minutes to download last night, ten minutes after two. I enjoyed going on the freeway and exploding cars to create a pileup. Shooting out the tires is wicked, and sometimes the physics seem over the top because it has cars going 5 miles an hour, and there tire gets shot out, and they fly huge distances as if they had been going 40 miles an hour.

It's weird... I mean, I like it, but something tells me it'll get old pretty fast, and it's not going to have alot of staying power.
I just can't quite shake that feeling that is saying "price drop! price drop!" and one of the reasons I got my 360 awhile ago was because Crackdown was looking so good, so it's not like I'm coming into the demo not knowing anything.
The demo was pretty fun. I'm just wondering if the full game will give you the choice to pick a female agent. Does anyone know?
Hmm... every screenshot and ad that I've seen has just shown the muscular black guy with the cornrows, so maybe if you squint you could imagine him as a WNBA player?
It's all right, I wasn't TOO impressed, but i sort of liked it.
I wished, that for 1 the graphics looked more realistic instead of the art style they decided to use. Also, I wish they didn't put a time limit on the game.. That kind of sucks.
Other than that, I enjoyed it, and I think it will be worth a rent, and possibly a buy when it hits $20.

In the demo they have multiple guys to choose from. So I figured if they give us a variety of males, and the loading screen shows female agents, then I don't see why not. But I want to make sure.
I'm on the fence about buying the game, and being able to pick a female character would be a good nudge over to the buy side of the yard.

No there isn't any female characters. All the available characters are pictured in the OP. I also found this article yesterday:

All of the interviews I have read, and some things on the official crackdown forums have stated that there are no female agents in the release version of the game. The devs did say they are considering it for DLC though.
I have to say I am a bit dissapointed in the agent customization. I realize as your agent grows their images change, and perhaps maybe the demo is just missing some of the customization features. I would have liked to choose hair style and facial accessories a bit more.
Overall the gameplay is fun, but I wish there was a main story arc along with all the kill missions. The driving races are insanely long too. I hit one by mistake and realized it was 62 checkpoints.
edit: Linkin beat me too it while i was multitasking

There are plans for downloadable content in the future, who knows maybe they will have lady Agents in the near future.
Oh well. Guess I'll wait for a price drop/DLC with female agents.
If you're going to have such limited options for character selection, don't even bother letting me choose anything.
For those of you who are also wondering, and I know this was a hot subject during the Saints Row demo / game, there is screen tearing in this game, which means the developers turned V-Sync off in order to achieve a steady framerate.
It dosen't bother me, but I know some people got very bothered by it in Saints Row. I'm sure many people didn't notice, but I have an eye for these things.
