Crackdown - Gen. Discussion & Info

Great news on the demo Sporadic. I updated OP to reflect that date.

I also managed to create another gamertag sig for any Crackdown fans:

LinkinPrime.png

Code:

Replace LinkinPrime with your gamertag and add
tags around link.

Four days till Crackdown goodness.

Tight.

Really really really too bad that they couldn't get this demo out earlier. If the game is any good, the demo could have pushed alot of copies.

At least it will be out there 20 days before the game ships.

Oh, and I just learned Crackdown has co-op. TIGHTNESS!

Yeah. The fact that the site has other user submitted gamercards is pretty good evidence that he didn't make them... or whatever you were getting at, or trying to get at.

I guess I could start putting my name on them but I dont really like to. I've made cards for Richlough, shipwreck, sweetooth9, Ma12kez, the official Hostile CAG and CAG cards, you can ask them and CheapyD. You can check the livecard forums, and see who started the thread, I'm a member there and I post my sigs there as well so you can check what threads i started:

1ups things to do in crackdown

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3156581

17 years ago, someone playing River City Ransom threw a rock at his pipe-wielding friend and suddenly the world was new. It may not have been the first instance of user-ingenuity in creating an entertaining distraction, but it's a concept that thrives to this very day -- particularly in the sandbox genre, and Microsoft's latest offering, Crackdown.

After spending time with a close-to-final build of the game, it has become clear that in order to get the most out of this super-cop powered adventure, you're going to have to make your own fun. So what is there to do in Pacific City? Other than kill lots of people, you ask?
#1 - Partake in Parkour: You've seen it on television. You've seen it on YouTube. And now, you too can jump around like a maniac in the bombed-out streets of Pacific City. It's not the Russian slums, but it all looks the same from a few hundred feet up. Half the fun of Crackdown (no, really) comes from getting a good running start and bounding from rooftop to rooftop, scaring the living bojangles out of every citizen in your vicinity. For extra style points, be sure to throw in one of those awesome Six Million Dollar Man "Cha-na-na-na-na" sounds while you're at it.
#2 - Shooting People: If Virtua Cop taught us anything, it was that nobody actually knew how to properly play Virtua Cop. It also taught us that blowing off some poor thug's hand was more badass than exploding their face. Crackdown brings back the justice-shot in style, with a targeting system that allows you to aim for whichever body part you choose. So, you can show a bit of compassion and merely force them into a world of left-handedness, or you can make it so they never walk again. Let's see you play with your children now, misanthrope! Being a cop is fun. http://www.1up.com/media?id=3163838
[URL="http://www.1up.com/media?id=3170272"]http://www.1up.com/media?id=3170272[/URL]SCREENS: Car bowling is always fun, but tricky to do without killing people at the same time. Click the image above to check out all Crackdown screens.http://www.1up.com/media?id=3163839

#3 - Drive Recklessly: Since we're probably never going to get a decent sequel to San Francisco Rush 2049, Crackdown may be your best option. While there are your standard Grand Theft Auto style races to take part in, Crackdown's unique vehicles are entertaining all on their own. Powering up your vehicle skill (done by...you guessed it: killing people) not only results in some Transformers action, but more importantly new techniques and add-ons. The Agency SUV in particular gains the ability to not only jump, but to grab hold to any vertical surface, opening up entirely new routes around the city. It may not be practical, but bouncing off the walls of skyscrapers in a huge, transforming, gas guzzler is rad.

#4 - Body By Schwarzenegger: Being as supercharged as the Incredible Hulk has its advantages. One detail regarding Crackdown we've seen over and over again is that you can pick up cars. Yes, we get it! Cars! Picked up and thrown! What about when a car comes barreling at you? Once powered up enough, you'll be able to stop speeding vehicles with a simple judo chop. And you know what? Picking up a car and throwing it is so very ape. Why not be slick and just kick a parked car directly into your victims? And, you know, killing them, which is probably all you'll ever be doing in this game. (You know, besides the things on this list...)
#5 - Work Them Physics: In River City Ransom, it was always fun to build a human tower of miscellaneous and dangerous objects. Be it a few trash cans or a couple of random goons, making a Jenga tower and chucking it at someone was always a riot. You can relive those days on your 360 as co-op mode holds some serious, carnage inducing, potential. Like having a friend jump on a car while holding a set of industrial-steel pipes, and then throwing said car while your buddy rides it majestically through the air and, finally, chucks the pipes. The world of Crackdown isn't as interactive as we'd like, but the addition of a second player and super powers make it a hell of a lot more interesting. What do all these things have in common? Someone is going to die in the process. Which really goes to prove that this list is a sham, and everything good about Crackdown is in some way tied back to killing people. Crackdown doesn't have time for sensitivity. It doesn't even really have time for a story. If you want a game where you eat hamburgers, get fat, and then work it off by busting a drive-by on your homies, go play Grand Theft Auto. If you want to just do the drive-by part, you've found your game.

[quote name='MillerTime2523']REALLY Excited for this demo.. Hopefully it dosen't suck.[/quote]

One hour timed is a pretty good amount of time to get a feel for it. Letting you access 1/4 of the game world is very impressive.

I feel a bit more confident they are putting out a demo. MS could have easily not done this, and had the game sell on the Halo 3 beta alone.

I suppose the demo will prove all, but my fear for this game is that it will be very boring before that hour is up...

Whenever I see someone say "very repetitive" I immediately stop listening. I find everything to a degree, repetitive. Mario jumps, Link swings his sword, Master Chief repetitively doesn't show his face and NASCAR turns left. But I like most of them just fine.

I am actually very undecided at this point about this one I really thought I wanted it but now I dunno as their is no multiplayer besides the co-op.

The co-op is also a very primitive deathmatch.

:applause:

I just realized the demo comes out on the day I finish my midterms. YES!!!!

Actually, it seems only half of the demo is "timed", which makes me pretty excited for the amount of permutations involved.

[quote name='Agent G']It’s really up to you. Once you get to two stars in any attribute, you’ll have 30 minutes to play before the demo times out. Once it times out, it’s game over. But don’t fret there is plenty of gameplay here. We ran a pre-release version of this demo at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in early January and we were seeing people play for a couple of hours before the game timed out on them.[/QUOTE]

5 AM (EST) Tuesday Can't come soon enough!

I will be down for some co-op when I get home from school. I will be home around 3ish EST. Good thing this is a 9 day course and I have a couple days to R&R a hydraulic pump.

The achievements for this game look nuts:

Use explosives to keep a body up in the air for 10 seconds - 20 points

Use explosives to keep a car up in the air for seven seconds - 20 points

Throw any object (other than a grenade) 205 feet or more - 10 points

Fun things to do with a buddy:

[quote name='Spuz from Teamxbox Forums']
Recon missions
One player climbs an extremely tall building, chooses a vehicle, and tells the other player information (location, colour, type of vehicle, etc.) about it. The other player, of course, has to track down the vehicle and take/destroy/kill the driver, etc. To further extend this, if it is a 'take' mission, the goal may be to take it back to the Agent HQ. Meanwhile, the 'recon player' comes down from the building and must STOP the retrieval of that vehicle at all costs!

Good cop, bad cop
One player causes as much mayhem and destruction as possible, while the other player's duty is to stop him at all costs.

Ramp it up
One player drives around with the ramp truck, while the other continues to ramp off of it; sillyness naturally ensues!

Fireworks!
Setup a line of satchel charges across the wall of a building, and watch the display! (This will be even better if/when they come out with the additional video editor! Send your best displays to your friends on Xbox Live!)

Sniper Evasion
As you may have guessed, one player is the sniper, and the other one is the victim.

Foot Vs. Ferrari (by ManBeast)
Both players race to a point on the map, but one person goes on foot, using rooftop transportation, and the other takes a vehicle, fighting through rush hour traffic.

Speedzone Drop (by i-candy)
One player speeds by in his vehicle, and the other player attempts to drop onto the vehicle as it speeds by. Increase difficulty by choosing faster cars, or higher buildings to jump off of.

Death/Defying Jumps
Both players jump off the same building and shoot each other on the way down. Whoever lives when he hits the ground, wins.

Roullette
Cars are lined up along the street, and satchel charges placed under one of them by one player. When the other player chooses a car, the satch is exploded, and then the remaining cars are left. Take alternating turns until one player or the other is in pieces, or until there is only one car left (which, I suppose, would be a tie)

Car Flipping
By strategically placing satchel charges, try to get a vehicle to do the most spectacular flips in the air. This can be modified further by allowing each player to have to use a certain number of satchel charges, etc. Also useful when determing "heads or tails"; tails if the car lands upside down!

Tag! (by TAPOUT)
Flip a car (see above) and call heads or tails to determine who is IT, and then chase the other player down! It only changes sides when the other play is touched physically by the other player.

Hot Potato
A modified version of tag. Get the cops to attack both players at once, and then during being attacked by the cops, play a game of Tag. If you die when you are IT, you lose!

Rooftop Tag
Another version of tag. This time it's limited to rooftops only! If your feet touch the ground, you lose! (Hint: Kick the other player off the roof.)

Catch Me if You Can (by Dangerous)
One player is in a car, the other is on foot. He must stop the car at all costs. This can be modified by restricting it to a certain area, or restricting certain weapons (picking up and throwing, or kicking the car to destroy it?)

Hide and Seek (by Monster Tard)
As the name implies, you hide and seek! Could be modified with a time limit, and when the time limit runs out, the hider will gain a point. (Hopefully you can disable the view of the other person in the radar as well!)

Pictionairy (by Silentstriderm)
Using bullet holes, bodies, vehicles (could be done looking down from the top of a building), or any other in-game item, one player creates a picture while the other player tries to guess it.

Stacker
Each player tries to stack his pile of cars higher than the other player.[/QUOTE]

There are some interesting ideas for extended gameplay fun.

Here's what to expect from the demo:

[quote name='Agent G (Crackdown Forums)'] Hey Guys - I figured I should give you an update on what you are going to get with the demo.

First off, Crackdown is controlled by three gangs – Los Muertos, The Volk and Shai-Gen Corporation. I pretty sure most of you know that by now. Anyhow, each gang controls a district within Pacific City. For the demo we are going to let you dish out justice in about half of the Los Muertos district. You’ll also have access to the Agency headquarters too, which is where you’ll actually start the game. These two areas combined will give you a huge area to play in and explore, without of course giving the whole game away.
emotion-1.gif
You’ll also be able to see the rest of the world, including the Volk and Shai-Gen controlled areas - you just won’t be able to get there during the demo as there is a blueish/clear wall that prevents you from traveling into these areas. There are definitely some killer buildings and areas that I know you are going to want to explore over there, but you’ll have to wait until the full game is out to do that. ;)

Furthermore, we’ve accelerated skills progression in the game. That means it won’t take as long as it does in the full game to get your Agent to higher levels in any of the five core skills. We did this so that you guys could experience what it’s like to ‘level up’ an Agent and thus see the difference between what it’s like to be a rookie Agent vs. a veteran Agent. We also do this because the demo will likely be used at retail kiosks (those stations you see in game shops), where generally people have less time to play the game than they do at home, so we of course want them to ‘get it’ even during a quick, walk-up gameplay session. As you play you’ll be able to level up any of your Agent’s core skills in any fashion you want. So you might decide to go after your driving skill first or perhaps you might try to level them all up evenly. It’s really up to you. Once you get to two stars in any attribute, you’ll have 30 minutes to play before the demo times out. Once it times out, it’s game over. But don’t fret there is plenty of gameplay here. We ran a pre-release version of this demo at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in early January and we were seeing people play for a couple of hours before the game timed out on them. We also saw people max out skills. They had to work hard to do it once the timer kicked in, but it can be done!! Trust me there is a lot of fun to be had here. The length of any given session will of course vary depending on your personal play style. You can never save your game in demos (that’s Microsoft’s policy) so when you restart the demo you’ll start with a rookie Agent again. What’s cool about that is that you can try working on new skills, skills that you might not have gotten to in a previous play session.

As you’ve no doubt heard you can also play this in Singleplayer Mode or in Online Cooperative Mode. One thing you should know - in the full game you’ll be able to join games in progress (meaning you could be playing for a while and then have a friend join you at any time during the game), but for the demo this has been turned this off so if you want to play co-op with a friend you’ll want to send them an invite when you fire up the demo.

There is of course still a huge variety of weapons and vehicles to try out too. The gang boss battles we’ve included are some of our personal favorites as well. Undoubtedly you are in for some good fun. Tuesday is right around the corner…!

If you have any questions, post them here and I’ll try to do my best to answer them.

Since leveling up will be accelerated in the Demo, don't assume that the final game will be this easy. It seems that they are just trying to give everyone a general idea of what can be achived in the full game. Sound great! I'm dying to play this one.
