Crackdown - Gen. Discussion & Info

I'm sorry... "news"?

I think we all fucking knew this since the day they announced Crackdown purchasers would get in on the beta. Unless you're a fucking moron and have absolutley no reading comprehension skills, this was made clear as black-and-white since day one.

Um, I think it's more "you need the actual Crackdown disc to download/play the beta - it isn't coming with a code" thing more then anything else Mr. Cranky Pants.

I am a fucking moron with absolutely no reading comprehension skills.

Thanks for the confirmation OP. I wasn't sure how it was going to work as obviously the people who "won" the Beta would not have to have Crackdown.

ill prob buy the game from gamefly... they rock and have awesome prices on new releases..

i would be pissed though if they get a "special" version of the disc

When did anyone ever say anything about a code? Since day one they said you would "use the disk as your key to the Halo 3 beta" and "load the disk to download".

Any wild speculation about some sort of numerical "code" is an overdose in wild imagination, and a lack of basic reading comprehension and intelligence.

The question had been brought up on this site if you'd need to keep the disc in order to run the download. People were considering buying Crackdown, downloading the Halo beta, and selling the disc.

Flame on, little buddy.

What the hell? So what about the folks who got accepted by Bungie? I'm one of them. I don't wana pay 60 bucks for Crackdown if I don't need to. This is just a cheap ploy to sell more copies of Crackdown. GRRRRRRRRRRR.

If you were already accepted by Bungie don't worry, you're in. I expect they will be sending out different disks for you folks. I was a beta tester for XBL and they mailed out disks.

Yeah. That post was nonsensical. If the question had been brought up, it was not for lack of clarity on the part of Bungie or MS. And I certainly hope a forum member was kind enough to answer properly.

And you can still buy Crackdown, download the beta, and sell the disk... why wouldn't you be able to?

The fact that you posted this makes me worry that you are still unable to understand this simple concept.

The thread starter doesn't know how to write. He's also to stupid to be able to comprehend anything he reads.

Crackdown is NOT required for the Halo 3 beta. A copy of the Crackdown DISK (an edition with the beta download key burnt in) is required to take advantage of the third phase of the Halo 3 beta.

pretty sure if you were accepted into the beta by other means, you're still good. This just means that for those planning to go the crackdown route, you will need to keep the disc.

My big question is how long will this beta be available? If its a few months, okay.. if it's a few weeks, i may reconsider my purchase of crackdown.

It was my understanding that you wouldn't be able to play the beta that you downloaded with the disc without having the disc in the drive. I thought that was the whole point of this thread. But again, I might be a fucking moron with poor reading comprehension skills.

Because according to the picture posted above, in order to run the downloaded beta, you need the disk - the "launch Halo 3 beta" option is located ON the Crackdown disk. It won't run by itself - the Halo 3 beta requires the Crackdown disk for startup.

There's the answer. You CAN'T use the Halo 3 beta without the Crackdown disk. One without the other is worthless.

I don't think anyone in this thread hasn't been able to figure out what I meant. It seems to me that the only person having trouble comprehending anything would be yourself - no one mentioned any of the other phases for the beta. The majority of gamers on this site that didn't get in on the beta were going to do so by buying Crackdown, and this thread only applies to them. If you're going to call me stupid for informing people about how the Crackdown Halo 3 beta will work, so be it. I'm a fucking moron. At least I didn't call people out for having "poor reading comprehension" without being able to compose something made up decent sentences and proper grammar.

My big question is how long will this beta be available?

If I had to guess, I'd say that it will run for 6-8 weeks. 12, tops.

That's just one beta period-tendency-ignorant gamer's guess, but to me, it feels about right.

Yes, I understand that.

I guess your thread title just confused me (as well as a few other people).

Wow. That is absolutely fantastic that you posted this in the middle of a flame about reading comprehension. Really.

how about if i rent the game?

Very bad idea.

I also recommend against pre-ordering it.

Only SPECIALY MARKED boxes of Crackdown will include the beta launch option in the main menu.

Your best bet is to go to a B&M store like Best Buy and look for a specially marked box.

Though I do expect EB/GS will be stocking the specially marked boxes.

Okay, seriously, this is getting ridiculous. EVERY copy of Crackdown comes with the Beta. This was announced awhile back.

Well, EBGamestop.com and Amazon both are heavily promoting the included beta, and have been for quite some time. If you have a bought copy on the day it hits stores--by any means necessary--then you're virtually guaranteed the beta. Actually, preordering is probably the safest bet you can make, as the "sweaty heathens" are sure to ambush retail the day it ships, as well as eBay hoarders trying to make up for those PS3s that they had to hire a stripper to pose with so they could lose fifty dollars for their efforts and hypothermia.*

*--Yes, I still enjoy kicking that party while they're down.

+1
Seeing as I didn't look through a whole thread devoted to the demo for news on the actual game, "old news" is hardly appropriate when it's less than 24 hours old.

But yeah, thanks for posting the same thing as the guy four posts up from you. Pot, meet kettle.
Less than 24 hours old? I posted this earlier this week, and it has been said all along that the key is the cd. However, you already noted that you didn't look through the thread devoted to Crackdown, you just assumed that no one knew and that you had hot off the press news.

Point being, this topic has already been talked about/debated/confirmed in the other thread, and this picture has already been in circulation (clearly showing the menu screen from Crackdown, another way we already knew this) . No reason for "Crackdown thread #2" or a flame thread, which is the only two things this has become. Lock it up.

All you confirmed is that you could download the demo from the disc. The picture I posted proves that you need the disc to RUN the demo after it's been downloaded. I'm sorry I stole your message board thunder.

Ok the real question here should be, " Who is JJSP?".

Like I said this was already posted yesterday in the crackdown thread an dposted by Tha Xecutioner a bit back. Why all the fighting?
Okay, seriously, this is getting ridiculous. EVERY copy of Crackdown comes with the Beta. This was announced awhile back.
That was a misunderstanding. It's only specially marked copies, although I'm sure there will be plenty of them.

It's only specially marked copies, although I'm sure there will be plenty of them.

I could be wrong, and I'm not about to excavate the Gamespots and the 1ups for linkage, but I seem to recall someone important from Microsoft (Peter?) very recently allaying fears by explicitly stating that the beta would be included on the entire first-run of the game...and not completely ruling out the subsequent/second one, although I'm a little shakier about the latter part.

Bottom line: if you preorder it now, be it B&M walk-in preorder or online, you should have no reason to fear getting a beta-free version. Wait for retail, and you run the risk of having copies snatched up at store open by the aforementioned "sweaty heathens" and hoarders.

P.S. This isn't directed to Trakan at all, but why must threads like these invariably devolve into "I'm right, you're not" pissing fests?
That was a misunderstanding. It's only specially marked copies, although I'm sure there will be plenty of them.
Blogs you have failed me!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's going to be easier to find a specially marked Crackdown than it is to find a confused person in this thread.

I'm sorry I stole your message board thunder.
Since you're obviously as confused as your avatar makes you appear to be, let me spell it out for you:
Although the other CAGs and I appreciate you posting a picture that is already across all of the internets and that has already been cleared up prior to today (we're talking a lot more than just 24 hours), it is not necessary to:

A) Make another thread for Crackdown when there is already a popular thread usually within the top 5 hottest threads on this side of the forum,

B) Get upset when others correct you by saying it is a repost,

C) Continue the flame war that's already been started.

You're not stealing my - or anyone else's for that matter - "message board thunder," you're just wasting message board time and space creating a thread that is just a small piece to an already established puzzle (aka the main/official thread).

Woah, I should have known better than to look for information about Crackdown in this thread.

N-E-waiz... Has anyone heard of a way to bypass the 30 minute timer? It'd probably be real simple on the PC...

Another thread was moved here, fyi (that's where all the arguing/flaming came from). Anyways..
N-E-waiz... Has anyone heard of a way to bypass the 30 minute timer? It'd probably be real simple on the PC...
No, the only way to bypass the timer is just wait 2 weeks for the full version ;)

I keep finding little things in Crackdown that are still amusing. I threw a grenade at someone today, no big deal normally. Well it hit him in the head and he fell down and took damage. Was great fun.

LMAO, now I have to play the demo.

EDIT: JESUS, what the hell happened to this thread?! All I see is random flameage (also, signs of merging).

I was told the entire first printing of Crackdown will have the beta, preorders and everything. I've also been told that the disc is needed at all times in order to play the H3 beta. No renting, no borrowing, no work around. Buy Crackdown, try to win a spot on the beta, or buy either one on ebay (which might not work with the latter).

I've known both these tidbits since the demo dropped, but that's to be expected.
I was just about to post that.
 I will back down.

Any who, got this game preordered, not sure if im gonna rush to circuitcity though and see if I can get it there with the face plate and then go to ebgames and switch the preorder to something else.

There's a faceplate at CC? Anyone got any pics of what it looks like?

Target and Circuit City both have it listed on sale for next week and they didnt do preorders and it states it will include the Halo 3 beta.

I played the demo and was not that impressed. It is ok , i bet they are thanking god that the halo beta is included because that is going to seriously help the sales of this average game. maybe the final game will be better.
