Dark Souls (Project Dark) - October 4, 2011
Ok, so I went back down to where Havel was, and went to that area out that door at the bottom to the Darkroot Garden. I got killed by the black knight down there, and when I went back, a crystal zombie attacked me. Long story short, I think the black knight fell off the cliff or something b/c he's gone and I got 2,000 souls for nothing. The problem is that I didn't get his drop :( Anyone know what he drops?
That Black Knight dropped the Black Knight Halberd when I beat him. I also beat him with a second character & got a Blue Titanite Chunk.
That Black Knight dropped the Black Knight Halberd when I beat him. I also beat him with a second character & got a Blue Titanite Chunk.
I got a chunk of something and the halberd at the same time.

Too bad I'm a Pyromancer and it is going to take forever to actually be able to wield the halberd.

lols @ this god damned open world. I started and I was all "wtf! Not only are these
skeletons
a bitch to kill and pop up in pairs, but they don't even give any souls!" Come to find out that
wasn't the right way to go
. I even tried a naked run (so my stamina would refill quick) and at least raided all the items... Honestly the hardest part so far is making sure I'm going the "correct" way, lol. Still, 4 hrs have just passed without my notice, so I'm not complaining :D

Ok, I want the drake sword. Where is the Red Dragon in relation to the Undead Burg? Is it up at the top of the tower (same one Havel is at)?

At the top of
that is Taurus Demon battle... then the dragon is just up past that.
Jodou did you have to go online at all to get help? Or do you have to go online to get any trophies?
I've been online the whole time, so no idea. I'm not looking up the trophies until I beat the game, but I noticed every covenant has had a trophy for joining so far.

Try looking around where he spawns because you might find a loot bag there. Black Knights have probably the best gear drops in the game. Their swords are amazing for their stat:weight ratio. Sadly, I'm still looking for the Black Knight Greatsword after two normal sword drops. :\
Ok Cursed for the first time.

I pretty much feel like breaking my game lol.
Rough go, I've managed to stay curse free my entire game. You really have to be asking to get cursed in my experience though.

Well I was in the Depths and i fell down this hole on top of these Ghecko looking things that were already spitting this mist at me lol.

Will using humanity cure it?
Well I was in the Depths and i fell down this hole on top of these Ghecko looking things that were already spitting this mist at me lol.

So I just made it to Deeproot for actual progression, not just to grind, and I can't help but think the clansmen that give 2k souls each is a bug. I've killed tons of enemies harder than them and none even come close to dropping that much per kill. I'm SL70 now and it's STILL a viable grind spot since each level is only 25k or so now.

Finally found a boss that killed me probably 15 times or more. Love developing strats to take down well designed bosses and this was the first one that made me think. Everything else has been the same old circle-strafe snooze fest with few exceptions sadly.

BTW, there have been more and more optional bosses that I'm finding and let me say, don't let them intimidate you. Size is nothing and it's actually pretty silly how easy most are. If anyone is stuck on a boss, let me know since I've beat them all (that I know of).

Where do I find this undead female merchant, I can't get pass this huge rat while cursed since it basically 1 shot kills me.

Heh, she's inside the aqueduct where you opened the shortcut to Firelink just above the entrance to the depths. Worse yet, it cost 6k souls and I'm fairly sure it's a one-time use.

I'm stuck on
Ceaseless Discharge, the massive lava beast in the demon realm after fighting quelagg. Any tips? When I first fought him it seemed he used punch attacks that exposed his arm and I could attack the arm. Now he just always uses the screen wide flame tentacle attacks which as far as I know are impossible to dodge.

I feel overwhelmed by this game. I have pretty much no idea what I am doing. Im just fighting things and leveling up. Is that a smart idea? Also Im pretty lost. Im still at the beginning and not sure which path to talk. I did go down a stair case that lead to a dragon whom I thought was dead but came to life and whooped my ass... Game is hard...

After finally beating the gargoyles boss after dying 20+times....Now Im to the Capra Demon Boss and die almost instantly. I know the idea is get to the stairs and kill the dogs first, problem is that Capra kills me even before I can make it to the stairs.

Rang the second bell and went through the secret tree place. Although, I didn't manage to get every item in there. Maybe I'll try to go back someday.

Can someone explain to me the whole sin thing? If you leave a covenant, is that a sin no matter what?

I was unable to beat the
Hydra in Ash Lake. Although, I ran past it to the stone dragon and when I came out it glitch died, but I hear there's a second one.

Do a barrel roll!

Run in and head to the left and roll past his swing.

If you join another covenant without going through Oswald then you get a sin. Sins put you in his "Book of the Guilty" which acts like an invasion list for those in the Blades of the Darkmoon covenant or Spirits of Revenge. If you pay Oswald to break off the covenant then you don't get a sin and are free to join another covenant. The cost is 2K souls x SL iirc.

As for my progress, currently facing the Four Kings in NG+ while having another character pvp at the forest in reg game.

Any reason for somebody to let a helping phantom die?

I had put my summon sign down at blight towns first bonfire and some guy summoned, but a red phantom had already invaded him. The phantom was behind him and ran right past him and aimed for me. Red phantom killed me, and the guy that summoned me just sat there. Then while I was dying they were right next to each other, as if helping each other.

Hmm, beat the gargoyle(s) boss on my first try, much easier than Maneater, probably because there is so much room to maneuver.

For the person who was near the end of the Undead Parish and wanted a bow, you can get a free long bow.
In the undead parish exit the Blacksmith past the electro circle-head demon and enter the dark root forest. Soon after killing the first tree make a U-turn and you should see a path down which hugs the cliff walls. Follow it down and eventually you will see a small ledge with loot on it, drop down and you can pick up a long bow and leather armor set. If you run into a black knight, you've gone too far

So do I have to join a covenant to buy the Healing miracle? No matter how many times I ask, he won't advance past the "join me" screen.

How do you increase your max equip load. I thought in previous game, you increase strength. But I just put a level into my strength, and my max equip load stayed at 43.

Endurance increases stamina and equipment load.

Bait him all the way back to the entrance, block his attack, and he falls into a pit. GG.

Hydra you just have to get in his grill without going too far into the water. After that, he can't hit you with any attacks and will just plunge his heads into the ground for you to lop off. They're ridiculously easy.

Man, I'm so sad the wolf boss was a pushover. I was super excited to fight him given the trailer, but I don't know if it was just bad programming or what because it kept pouncing on me and I split his belly with ease.

Going to be a while before I can use that drake sword. Gotta get strength up, and then endurance so I can actually do fast rolls when carrying it.

What sort of level do you have to be to beat the big knights with the good drops? They are still crushing me at level 11

I'd bring a bow plus a decent supply of arrows for the last hydra head. It's very easy to fall into the deep water if you try to hit it with melee attacks.

I just climbed the ladder off to the side of the hydra and is it me, or do the walking trees hit a lot harder and take more damage than the ones from when you first enter Darkroot? A lot of slowdown up there too making it even tougher to fight 2 or more at a time.

Eh, go with what you know really. I never had any trouble not falling in. You can see where it drops off and you're only that far in to avoid being hit honestly.

Gah, why couldn't this game be on PC where I can FRAPS it? I'd love to make some vids with this game, but I'm not going to buy an expensive capture device.

Just got to Blighttown and wow, the frame rate is terrible. I've had drops before but it's almost constant here. I wish the game was on PC too so I could get a steady frame rate out of it.

Pyromancy
They drop like flies :D Granted, I'm ~ lvl 20, but I didn't raise that stat so technically I should be doing the equivalent of lvl 1 and they still fall easily.

And yeah, I really wish I could install this to the PS3. The framerate takes a surprising number of hits. Enough that they've caused me to die a couple times even.

Yeah I had to take off my boots and my helmet to be able to use the sword and stay under 25%. Totally worth it though. The 25% req for fast movement is tough - it means you have to raise Endurance by 4 points to carry 1 more pound of armor/weapons. Yowza.

But with the Drake sword I beat the gargoyles on only my second try. Of course, now I'm stuck on the Capra Demon because I die as soon as I enter the room. I'll try what the poster abover said about rolling left I guess. :(

Also, for anyone interested about getting the Drake sword (spoiler just in case):
with 14 strength and 12 dexterity, using the short bow and standard arrows (the ones that cost 10 souls), I think it took me exactly 20 shots to cut off the Hellkite Dragon's tail.

Ok, I have another question about the Drake Sword. So I got to the red dragon (Taurus Demon was a piece of cake BTW--and no loot drop :( ). Do I stay back in the doorway and snipe him and try to hit his tail, or do I run underneath him and hit his tail?

I keep inching up b/c I can't hit him w/my arrows, and he kills me with his fire. Thieve's ring where are you?

Hit him from underneath the bridge. His tail hangs over the right side.

Sorry for a dumb question, but I haven't seen how to get down there...

Hey Namco, get to work figuring out why and how you badly fuucked up the CE for this game, instead of printing shitty t-shirts and maps. Learn2Atlus.
Sorry for a dumb question, but I haven't seen how to get down there...
About halfway across the bridge are those two alcoves, on the left side is just empty space and on the right side are stairs down. Get to under 25% and sprint past the enemies, get as far forward as possible in the alcove because if you are near the back of it the fire will still roast you.

Take the stairs down, go all the way left to knock the ladder down to the undead burg fire. Then go back into the room and turn left and you will be walking under the bridge. On the right side of the underbridge you can see the tail swinging. Stand to the right of the support column and you should be able to hit the tail.

Once you get the tail if you want to get past the dragon to the bonfire stand at the top of the stairs and hit him in the head with an arrow and immediately start sprinting toward the door. He will get all pissy and jump down instead of breathing fire.

Also, I downloaded that map, that map is pretty lame.

If you stay under 50% the movement speed is not TOO bad. A lot of the armor sets I've found don't seem like they'd be viable until you've put a ton of points into endurance. I don't see anyone playing this game near max load. I think every point into strength should have added to weight load as well.

Going back to sins, what exactly happens if someone from that convenant invades you for sinning? Does that in someway absolve you of your sins? I assume not, but may as well ask. Is it different from a normal invasion? Do you lose anything other than souls?

I've been sticking with mine under 50%. I honestly didn't even realize there was a separate category for under 25%.

Question, I am a knight and interested in learning the Heal Miracle. I need 2 more faith points, I notice it says 5 uses...so do I have to buy another Heal spell? or do they refill at the bonfire like flask?

How much does the Heal Miracle recover your HP?

Ugh... Took me 20 min of Havel one-shotting me before I was able to kill him, then his body just happened to be near the ledge so it fell to the dead end area. I tried to drop down as slowly as possible, but of course I slid right off the edge and died before I could pick up the ring.

FML...

I refuse to play over 25% and so far I've found a very good combo of equipment at 34 Endurance. For PvE, it would behoove you to be able to move quickly as well. There's nothing more important than being able to dodge your enemy's attacks and recover quickly.

How much does the Heal Miracle recover your HP?
Yes, you get a max of five uses per bonfire visit. Heal is incredible since it allows you to save pots when you're not in danger and I've found it heals for ~350 with 18 faith. I wouldn't pump faith TBH, because there doesn't seem to be a viable build with gear to support it sadly. I took it to 18 for the sole purpose of Homeward.

You won't be seeing him for a long time then. The key is in darkroot forest, after a boss. That area is meant for 60% through the game.

Wow, I am annoyed at the restrictions on the save file even with Plus. I automagically upload my save every night. Seems as though you cannot download it until after 24 hours have passed. Annoying since I was needing to play on my other PS3. So I decided to start up a depraved. Not as bad (thus far) as I thought. My only two deaths have been the wyvern (planned) and once with the intro demon when I forgot to use my flask.

Finallly beat the damn Capra demon. I think it was just luck not dying immediately on about my 16th try or so. Now I'm excited about the game again.

I do love the open world aspect. When I was sick of fighting the Capra demon, I remembered that I hadn't yet explored the area down by the blacksmith, so I fought and beat that lightning demon and then went on to explore the area behind it. I even went all the way down to the bottom and
beat that knight with the halberd on my first try
and then found a shortcut to
Valley of the Drakes
. Then I got scared and went back, but still was a great break from fighting the boss.

Also, it's so weird not getting anything good from the bosses like we did in Demon's Souls. You used to get an awesome soul and your body. I really wish you got a humanity and some special soul. Or at least a good amount of souls. 1k is paltry.

I wouldn't really consider the Capra demon a boss... just a difficult encounter early on.

So anyone know what all the different weapon upgrade paths do? Do things like fire and lighting have secondary effects?

Divine
Occult
Chaos
Fire
Crystal
Raw
Lightning
Magic
Enchanted

I think those are all of them. Just don't know what they all do. Damagewise fire looks like the best one since it gives the most damage so i figure theres got to be a reason to pick the other ones.
