Best Buy Upgrade & Save - Now With 100% More Wikification!!

How does it work?
Trade in ANY DVD (except for porn, you weirdos) and get a $5 off coupon towards any Blu-Ray priced $9.99 or above.
Yes, ANY DVD - this includes things you bought at the Dollar Store, individual discs from compilations or TV shows, and ex-rentals from Blockbuster (RIP).
Cases and artwork aren't required, but it definitely increases the acceptance rate if you're bringing in disc four of Sanford & Son's third season.

Wait, that's it? There has to be more to it, right?
Well, not really. It's pretty simple.
Step 1. Trade in DVD's for $5 off coupons.
Step 2. ???
Step 3. Profit!

The usual FAQ/tips/etc.
Coupons are 1:1 - for each DVD traded, one coupon is given.
Coupons don't have to be used at time of trade in.
Coupons do not stack with each other. No combining U&S coupons for $40 off of the Star Wars box set.
Coupons MAY stack with price matches, manufacturer coupons, and current Best Buy promos. YMMV, ya know?
Discounts are taken from the selling price of the Blu-Ray $9.99 or higher. $9.99 becomes $4.99, $12.99 becomes $7.99, and so on. $4.99 Blu-Rays are still $4.99 though.
Coupons are B&M only - must be redeemed in-store.

Since this is a wiki post now, feel free to add in suggested titles (I prefer those $9.99 gems or sale items that become $4.99 after coupon, but to each their own) down below.

For a pretty comprehensive list, go here -> WV Matsui to the rescue! You should all give him a dollar.

Only thing I saw that I wanted from the $9.99 list is Jacky Brown.

Not sure I should get anymore anyway, I don't think I've gotten to all the blus I got from the last deal!

Tis nothing. I have DVDs and Blu-rays from last summer I have to watch.

Had a somewhat irritating experience yesterday.

I brought in 5 movies. The clerk went through every one, checking front and back of the disc and behind the cover insert. He rejected one (The Weather Man) for what he said was "weird lines on the bottom" of the disc. It looked like the standard resurfacing waves. The other was the old Dolph Lundgren Punisher, because he said the way the disc label was "not shiny" it looked illegitimate.

I asked him why he was checking so thoroughly, when usually they just check if the disc is there. He said new requirements are that it has to be in it's original case, with any inserts.

I don't believe him, he was just being a pecker. I'm going to take the same two back today.

Yeah, when I went in Sunday, the girl needed help from a supervisor. They saw I brought in five DVDs (two or so with printed covers,) didn't check the discs, and printed off a receipt with five coupons stapled to it.

He was just being a pecker. If some people get even a little bit of power or authority, they act like complete peckers.

At my store today no one even know how to do the promotion. They had to go bother someone who was off on their break to ask them how to do it. There was a line of 10+ people behind me waiting while they did this.

Kind of off topic and rude but,
could you even imagine what horrendous sex with a person like that must be like? "No, move like this, no not like that, don't put that there, what's that mole? Has that always been there?, that contraceptive doesn't look shiny - it must be illegitimate."

Anyway, back on topic:

I searched all over my store but I couldn't find:
Grease
The Sandlot (looked the last upgrade and save also)
Minority Report (would be nice if it had oblivion movie cash like some have reported)
Army of Darkness (looked the last 2 upgrade and saves also)

People here and bluray.com have reported buying this blurays during this Upgrade and Save. I fucking looked through every bluray shelf in their disorganized Genre bullshit.

I ended up buying (prices after coupon)

Hulk - $4.99 (with movie cash)
Blade Runner - $4.99
Resident Evil Afterlife 3D - $14.99
Resident Evil Retribution 3D - $14.99 (yeah yeah, I know they suck, but they are my guilty pleasure movies. I don't care how shitty the films are because 3D Milla Jovovich is worth $14.99)

I got a nice lil haul today:

In Time - $5 (All U&S)
Sandlot - $5 (finally found a store stocked with these, they had a few)
and BBC Earth: Life and BBC Earth: Frozen Planet 2 Pack for $15

Funny considering they're doing either Life or Frozen Planet for $20, but this store had "Exclusive" 2 packs for $20 which were just shrinkwrapped together.

Where did you find The Sandlot in that store? Was it in a cardboard display or mixed in one of the genre's or on a random endcap?

Look at the narrator, the 2 $20 packs should be David Attenborough, the pair will be Oprah Winfrey
I saw one at my store mixed with one of the genres.
Thanks. I appreciate the help. I'll check another store today. I'd assume they'd put it in the kids movies section, but I'll check them all to be safe.
If anybody needs to buy some cheap DVD to trade in to BBY Hastings has DVD for sale at 2 for .99cents.
In store I'm assuming?

Went to three different stores and came back witht these:

Blade Runner - $5
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - $5
Requiem for a Dream - $5
The Prestige - $5
The Town - $5
Almost Famous - $5
Moulin Rouge / Romeo + Juliet - $7
Argo - $15
Dark Knight Rises - $15

I really wanted the Kubrick triple pack and only one store I went to had it. I looked all over, but I couldn't find it so I just walked out. Whoever thought it wise to change from alphabetical to genre organization, and mix blus and dvds together, should be fired.

If you also need DVDs and don't have a dollar store, MovieStop has a ton of 2-for-$5 and all used anime are B2G1 Free.

I went back for round two.

Prices are after coupon discount

Minority Report (with 7.50 GI Joe movie money) - $7.99 - (It was marked $9.99 so I got them to adjust the final price down to $4.99).
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 1 3D - $9.99 (yeah I know the 3D sucks)
Wrath of the Titans 3D - $9.99 (hey, at least I passed of Clash of the Titans 3D).
Ferngully/Secret of Nimh 2 pack - $6.99 (fuck yeah, childhood nostalgia time)
Warrior $4.99

I think I'm done for this sale. There's nothing else I want except fucking Grease and the Sandlot and both stores I went to didn't have them.

The only other thing I might be interested in is the Chinatown steelbook on 5/7/13 depending on the price and depending if they get any in stock. It would also be cool to find Army of Darkness screwhead edition, but at least I have the old HD DVD.

Life is Oprah. And it's still damn good. Attenborough for the Frozen one though. I don't mind her being the narrator, I mostly watch it with a friend and we do our own drunk commentary.
Where did you find The Sandlot in that store? Was it in a cardboard display or mixed in one of the genre's or on a random endcap?
It was in Comedy for that store. Checked Family/Kids first and was disappointed, but the comedy section had 5+ copies. If I knew it was that rare I would have picked another up for someone, but it's 40 minutes from my house.
Minority Report (would be nice if it had oblivion movie cash like some have reported)
I saw both versions at my store. The non-movie cash version was marked $9.99, w/movie cash is $12.99. They had different sku's, and I did not push for a match.

Is the Ferngully/Secret of the Nimh and Moulin Rouge/Romeo and Juliet 2 packs come with 2 blu cases or is it a double feature thing? I hate double features, but wouldn't mind getting them if they had their own discs and cases.

hit two stores today, traded in 8 overall.

finally got the lion king diamond edition, 14.99 after coupon. paul for 6.99, the res were scored for 4.99. decided to take a shot on the raid: redemption based on all the positive talk here.

It's a simple repackaging. Same discs as the individual release.

No they do not. Both discs are inside a double disc case.

Thank you. Well if they are on separate discs I may still bite on Secret secret of the Nimh/Ferngully.

What is Warrior $4.99?

I have to admit Star Trek at $5 is mighty tempting.

Also tempted to get Best of In Your House for $17.99 on Tuesday or one of those other WWE $10 Blu Rays (before discount).

I got the following after coupon

Hulk 4.99
Incredible Hulk 6.99
Hellboy II 4.99
These 3 have movie cash towards Oblivion

And
Star Trek 4.99

$4.99 Each after coupon

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ozee
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Turtles in Time
Last Man Standing/Last Boy Scout Action 2 Pack
Jackie Brown

I like how my local store clerk gave me an extra coupon after purchase to use on my next visit. Also, she didn't take the one I had attached to my trade receipt so I have two for next time.

Interesting.
I bought the one with the movie cash, and it rang up as $12.99 BUT it had a $9.99 sticker on it.
So they price-modified it.

Problem is (I only noticed later) something has come loose inside. I don't know if the disc just got dislodged or if the holder is broken. The only other store that has it in stock is 40 miles away.
Now what?

The cashier told me to just buy the regular one online and then return this copy with that receipt. (!!!!) I'm thinking that I'll probably have to do that.

Just be sure you purchase the one with the same sku online, or it won't work. Everything is based off of sku's at BB - which is directly related to the UPC. Most of the releases with the movie cash just have a new upc sticker over the barcode - and the movie cash sticker is the only difference. That is why your copy most likely still had the $9.99 tag on it. It was just sent back to have the movie cash and upc stickers put on and shipped back to the store. They didn't bother to pull off the price tag.

Couldn't resist picking up the Star Trek movies I was missing on BD (VII-X) for $5 each. It still amazes me that every time I go to do one of these trade-ins I manage to get an employee who has never done it before and has no idea what the deal is.

And then ignore you when you tell them how to do it and fiddle around for 10-15 minutes, sometimes longer, and then do exactly what you told them and act like they figured it out on their own. :p

Gotcha!
So how much chance do I have of that $12.99 bluray (that I'll now order) coming with movie cash?

Slightly odd experience at my store. Trade in was really easy. Employee just quickly looked to make sure the discs were in the case and gave me my coupons. Really fast and easy. Managed to pick up a copy of Sandlot with slipcover (yeah) but my store had absolutely zero copies of the Star Trek movies (except for the most recent). Really odd.
YMMV on this
I able to get BBY to not only order me a blu that wasn't in the store but also PM walmart, and got it shipped to my house.

I mentioned that some people have had an issue with getting a BBY to apply the coupon to an online purchase, if the blu was not in the store
She said that if the title you want is not in store and if ship to store is not an option to just order the blu at full price to your house, then do return and re-buy with coupon at the store. (you do have 2.5 weeks) Good luck.
Reminding those who came in late in the thread. If you cant find your titles in store see above^.

Had a pretty successful trip

Traded in five and got (after coupon prices listed):

Almost Famous-$4.99
Close Encounters of the Third Kind-$4.99
Jackie Brown-$4.99
Reservoir Dogs-$4.99
Body Heat/L.A. Confidential/The Player- $6.99 (really just wanted L.A. Confidential as I'd traded my DVD in during a prior promo and not been able to find the stand alone release).

Thought I was done with those five, but now have Reservoir Dogs DVD to ditch, and will probably ditch Donnie Brasco DVD as well since the Blu is $9.99. Will pick that up, and maybe Gladiator (traded the DVD today, but didn't see the Blu) or Shutter Island..

And then I am probably done with these promos as I've got my DVD collection pared down pretty good finally. I think everything left is stuff I want to keep and don't care to upgrade to Blu.

Picked up Star Trek (2009), Iron Man and Iron Man 2 for $15. I'm kicking myself for not buying Willow when it was on sale for $12.99 last week. It's back up to $16.99 this week.

BTW, Best Buy is currently having an online sale on various TV shows, many of them U&S sale titles. Buy 2, get 25% off (which is the same as two coupons) and Buy 3 and get 35% off, which essentially gets you one of the titles for free.

I liked the pilot episode but wasn't sure about continuing the series. :whistle2:k

Specifically (please don't start anything over this), I'm concerned about the level of...implied sexual content. I didn't enjoy both the pilot and following episode opening with a scene in a hotel room--the pilot with obvious sexual overtones and the other episode with an anticipation of such activity. It's seriously a moral issue for me if a show consistently depicts stuff like this, so if that sort of thing happens often, maybe I shouldn't invest in Fringe. Can anyone clear this up?
