EDIT: NM. Go to page three of this thread. It looks like it is going to be the slidecage/cag1000 rule, and not an across the board rule...

LoLarbears if all these two did was screw themselves over!!!

Sounds like we need to burn the "cag1000 rule" and "slidecage rule" into CAG lexicon as the following:

"cag1000 rule"/"slidecage rule": when you make such a nuisnace of yourself to EB/GS/GC/GR/etc. in trading in large multiple of games from TRU/Overstock.com/etc. that would make any retailer gag on the sheer quantity of the same title, they make up rules about trade in quantities and you're such a dumbass, you actually believe them and think it applies to the rest of public, and not just yourself

Something like that, MorPhiend?
Motion seconded! All opposed???

*Looks around*

Being that there is no opposition, I declare this slidecage/cag1000 rule to be officially admitted into the CAG lexicon. And it shall hereby be abbreviated as the SC1000 rule ("S" for slidecage, "C" for cag1000 and 1000 for the number of Primals and Turoks they each bought.).

Meeting adjourned!

I think there also should be some sort of term or award to commemorate whoever mentioned buying up all the Mary Kate and Ashley games... for swallowing their pride and braving funny looks from cashiers to uphold the highest ideals of CAG.

I managed to find a great EB location which allowed me to trade-in half of my games (my local EB said they wouldn't let me trade-in more than 12). The computer accepts 6 titles for the promotion at once. So if you're trading several dozen, be prepared to sign multiple trade-in slips. There were several games excluded from the promotion which surprised me, including some wrestling and racing games (listed below). I'm pretty happy with the haul so far though.

Def Jam: Fight for NY (Xbox)

Sega GT 2002 (Xbox)
Sega Soccer (Xbox)
WWF Raw (Xbox)

For reference, all the games I traded were from my personal collection. There were no multiples of the same game, nor did I buy any games to trade-in for the promotion.
don't see u jealous haters jumping on this guy. dam he almost outdid my trade. And yes i will defend myself and slidecage for taking heat for something we all contributed to. Something even you whiners contributed to in a small way. Take some blame and stop blaming others for your shitty trading skills. I bought all my games on Fri and Sat gave all you whiners all week to take your pick. I took the scraps.
I have yet to trade anything, so right there you are lying. And what he did is completely different! He took games from his personal collection (no multiples and no TRU/thrift store crap) and traded legitimately. That is what sales like this is for. EB wants quality games to come in. They mark them up and make money, thus are willing to give a bonus on the credit. Do they know that crap will come in? Yes. But that should normally be evened out on it's own. They did not know TRU was doing this. That's where the problem lies. They did not want every Turok and Primal ever created to come in the door, only accompanied by JamPacks. That only helps them lose big. When that happens, there is not much chance of a good deal like this happening again in the future (if at all).

Just look at the few games that nixts had that they wouldn't take. The worst one is probably RAW, and that's not too bad. And the others are even good! If those are the worst titles that they would not take from him, I'm sure most of what he gave was quality. With a collection that size, you are going to have a good deal of quality. You make no sense, so stop whining about people not liking you after you come on here and brag that you (and people like you) potentially ruined this from ever happening again for the rest of us.

My local EB said that they will end the promotion early with Feb.18th being the last day for this trade-in deal. Also, another EB location refused all "promo/demo" discs. I hope this is a store-by-store regulation, and not a national corporate memo.

On a good note, I found out that the EB's PSP 1-yr warranty plan is only $25 (covers everything, but does not protect against theft or lost). I think this is a good investment, particularly if you have any credit remaining.

Exactly, I parted with many pieces in my collection for the sake of store credit. Like I said, I only traded games I own and didn't trade any multiples (don't own any) and didn't buy any games to trade either. This transaction was 1/2 of the games I plan to trade. I plan to use about $500 on PSP stuff and save the rest for Xbox 2 (hopefully later this year). Here's a sampling of what I traded (missing 2 receipts out in the car).

AirForce Delta Blue Storm (X)
Apex (X)
Beach Spikers (G)
Big Mutha Truckers (X)
Breakdown (X)
Burnout 2 (X)
Capcom v. SNK EO (X)
Carve (X)
Circus Maximus (X)
Dark Summit (X)
Def Jam: Fight for NY (X)
Enclave (X)
ESPN X-Games Snowboarding (X)
Eternal Darkness (G)
Fireblade (X)
Galleon (X)
Genma Onimusha (X)
Group S Challenge (X)
Hitman 2 (X)
Final Fantasy X (P)
Italian Job (X)
Indy Car Series (X)
Maximum Chase (X)
Mafia (X)
Max Payne 2 (X)
Mercedes: World Racing (X)
Mortal Kombat: DA (G)
MTX Mototrax (X)
Phantasy Star Online (X)
Pro Race Driver 2 (X)
Psi Ops (X)
Pulse Racer (X)
R: Racing Evolution (X)
Rally Fusion (X)
Red Dead Revolver (X)
Sega Soccer (X)
Shenmue 2 (X)
Socom (P)
StarFox Adventures (G)
SSX Tricky (X)
Suffering (X)
Terminator: Dawn of Fate (X)
Tony Hawk's Underground (X)
Total Immersion Racing (X)
Toxic Grind (X)
True Crime: Streets of LA (P)
Turok Evolution (X)
UFC Tapout 2 (X)
Voodoo Vince (X)
Wakeboarding Unleashed (X)
Wreckless (X)
WWF Raw (X)
X2: Wolverine (X)
Zelda: Wind Waker (G)

Because I traded so many games, many people apparently wanna know what I got the most credit for. Bear in mind, these prices include the $5 bonus. There are a slew that are $7-8, so I'm looking at titles above that. Here's a sampling:

AirForce Delta (X) - $17
Capcom vs. SNK EO (X) - $11
MTX: Mototrax (X) - $11
Psi-Ops (X) - $10
Red Dead Revolver (X) - $9
Zelda: Wind Waker (G) - $10

lol i could care less about u whiny losers but u shouldn't sit on these threads and find scapegoats for a deal that this entire community exploited. Sux to be 15 with no car and $$$ watching 70 pages of a thread with people listing what they got and traded lol doesn't it? So he traded his own collection have you even read this thread lol that's 1 person. Maybe you should jump over to that one thread about a kid that pre-ordered a psp for like 40 bucks lol. I'm proud of my deals and posted a story of a very cool ebgames clerk who took all my trade ins all at once. Everyone posting in this thread got a good deal and the rules were bound to change either way, it's what companies do grow up. Now since the deal is over and just the whiners and haters are left it's def time to lock this bitch up.

What happened to me today.

I have 3 sets of 6 different games to trade. each have 2 of my own collection, 1 Music Maker, 1 Primal, 1 MGS2:S, and 1 Clubworld. Today was the first chance I have had to trade in to EB.

I go to my local store and hand him the 6 games. He looks at them for 5 seconds, and hands them back and says "I cant take these". I say in my sexy voice: "Why not?" He says "because most are stolen. Leave now or I'll call the police." I replied "they arent stolen. I got them on sale at another store and couple are old games I havent played in a while." He said "Leave". I go, polite as usual.

Ahhhh, I love Valentine's Day.

I drive to another EB. I hand the bloke the 6 (all unwrapped, since I am a fast learner...) and he is scanning them. After he hands me the slip to fill out, I ask if it ok for me to sell back more of the same games. Right after I asked I followed up with "If I cant, its no big deal" and he gives me my edge card and asks me to leave. I ask why. He says that anyone with more than one copy of a game either stole them or is trying to rip the store off. I said I have no intention of ripping the store off, and that I didnt like being accused of stealing. He gets angry and I scurry out.

Great, now there is weirdness at my 2 EBs. I will feel strange going to either of them. I am a person that tends to take things personally, and that both clerks jumped right to me being a thief really pissed me off. I was polite and made sure that they knew I was alright with not being able to trade duplicates, but I still received guff like I was out to scam someone.

Definitely can see your maturity and IQ level (or the lack thereof) in that last post. If you could care less, that is why you keep responding, eh? You still make no sense. And you continue to say things that you know nothing about. There are probably a few who did what you did. But you are the one bragging, so people have every right to flame you. And as far as you trying to "insult" me, I am 25, with a truck and have spent $300 on videogame deals in the past month, am paying my own way through college, and yes, I have been following this thread since it began - I'm glad that you just proved that you know nothing about the things which you speak of, less work for me. And you now whine about me using nixts as an example, you were the one who dragged him into this, only you are too ignorant to realize that he is nothing like the scum that you are. And I didn't say that was the only way to go about a deal like this, but you more than exploited it and then bragged about how you got in on the deal before they decided to clamp down on your like. You asked for flames. And the deal isn't over. It's just over for the likes of you and slidecage, since they already are familiar with you guys and now you both have most likely sealed your own fates as far as your local EBs go. So stop spewing this filth from your mouth and let people talk about deals and such. Face it, nobody is standing up for you.

Man, I hate that. I have always hated EB B&M, because this is the way they are. But GS B&M has always been awesome to me. I would have invited the first guy to call the cops. Especially if the store was full of people. Then when the cop gets there, he has to face the issue of slander (especially since I keep receipts in my wallet until they are no longer useful to have ready access to - then they get filed away). But even if you couldn't prove that you had bought them, that means nothing. He had no proof you stole them! That is utterly ridiculous...

thanks. I had the receipts in my pocket, but i am a quiet guy and do not like to make a scene. I am real upset about how it was like in the mind of the clerk.....trade in, hmmm........alright theres this game....this game.......THIS GAME IS STILL WRAPPED!......YOU ARE A CRIMINAL.

I hate it when a nerd gets a little power over another nerd and then abuses it just because they can. He didnt even listen to my explaination.

Same thing happened to me today, the jerk-off was named Nathan and works at the ebgames in Arden Fair mall in Sacramento. I had 4 games, 2 primals, 1 r racing, 1 dave mirra, it's not like I had 10 copies of primal.

I was pretty pissed since I had no problems trading multiples in to that same damn store yesterday. I also had 0 problems trading multiples to Elk Grove store also. As a matter of fact the employee that let me do it was working today too. Hell I was even willing to just trade in one copy of primal and my one copy R:Racing. So after being accused of stealing games I was told it was California law not to take multiple games, I call BS, but maybe someone better versed in the law could confirm or deny?

After arguing with him for a bit. I just gave up and told him to give me his name, store #, and DM's #. He gave it to me and now I'm debating whether to call and raise holly hell or not. Think I could at least get him in some trouble if I complained? Or would I be wasting my time?

Luckily though I have 4 ebgames within about 15 miles of where I live so I just made a trip to 2 other ebgames, careful not to trade multiples and got my damn credit.

Lol, california law? No such thing! since when was eb games the same as pawn shops and relating them to criminals? they lied to you hardcore.

PimpJuice69, there would be no point in complaining. Most EB's and Gamestop can refuse a trade in when it is necessary. Especially if someone is trading in multiple copies or they know something is up such as you just trading in the same game the day before and now again. Best thing for you to do is give your games to someone else to trade in or just try different EBs.

That's what I was afraid of :(

Maybe I can get him in trouble for accusing me of stealing?

It didn't even really bother me that they wouldn't take multiples, I figured there was a chance of that. What pissed me off was the fact that they basically called me a thief and refused to take in a single copy of R:Racing and Primal.

if there is someone who is above him at the store, just tell them what happened and that you want to write a formal complaint. or just say you were upset at how you were treated.

Ha! I know who that tool is! He is a total dickweed, he screwed over one of my friends awhile ago. I hope you complain and they fire his ass.

EDIT: Anyone in the area of the Arden Fair store, please think twice about giving them your business, the EBgames on Fair Oaks Blvd. in Loehman's plaza (about 5 miles away, maybe less) is literally about 50 times better then the Arden Fair store. ALL of their employees are extremely nice and go out of their way to help you.

CALL CALL CALL - The DM in our area doesn't put up with that shit. Once they wouldn't honor a valid coupon and I called, she sent me a gift card and the guy got a royal reaming.

The DM's name I got was Tracy, is that the same DM you're talking about?

PimpJuice69, there would be no point in complaining. Most EB's and Gamestop can refuse a trade in when it is necessary. Especially if someone is trading in multiple copies or they know something is up such as you just trading in the same game the day before and now again. Best thing for you to do is give your games to someone else to trade in or just try different EBs.
That's what I was afraid of :(

Maybe I can get him in trouble for accusing me of stealing?

It didn't even really bother me that they wouldn't take multiples, I figured there was a chance of that. What pissed me off was the fact that they basically called me a thief and refused to take in a single copy of R:Racing and Primal.
oh I didn't realize he accused you of stealing. You could probably complain about that to the DM.

I'm contemplating trading in some unplayed cheapass games from my collection that I may never get around to actually playing. I'm not actually sure which ones that I'd include though, but I have a good idea. Would this deal be a good idea to get rid of some cheap games that I could easily get for cheap if I feel the urge to get them again?

I traded-in quite a few games in my collection which I bought cheaply (CAG + Edge discount online) and only played a few times. I definitely think its worth it, especially if there's something you want (PSP, DS, etc.)

FYI Never trade your games sealed during offers like this one. If you unwrap the games they wont be able to sell them as new thus giving a cheap as gamer a chance to buy a new game as used. When I was younger i traded a new game wraped and only got like 5 bucks. A few days later they were selling it as new full price (I recognized a nick in a corner of the game) I was told that is illegal for the store to buy games as used and then sell them as new...

I've been to most all Sacramento area game stores multiple times and I can say without a doubt that the Loehman's Ebgames definately has the best/most friendly workers.

I presume around 7pm or so, I'll head out to EB and try to get these trade-in's I got taken care of.

I hope I get enough to pay off most, if not all, of Star Fox Assault tomorrow. Though I only have six to trade in.

wow... heh you know.. i took a bunch of jam packs i got for kmart the other day and traded them into the pawn shop today and they didn't even care (i got 10 bucks a jam pack.. that ruled)...

So, can anyone confirm if it's true that they changed it so that the 18th is the last day of this promotion?

I remember reading it in one of all the threads but can't find it anymore.

Store that tried that on me would have become a very ugly place. Of course, that sort of thing is very rare since I'm twice the age and twice the size of the average EB clerk. Unless they can produce a large gun they have no hope of intimidating me in any fashion.

I would be fine if they placed a limit on duplicates or even the number of distinct items I could trade at one time. I try to accommodate my benefactors when it is within reason. But any zit-faced EB clerk who accused me of trying to pass stolen goods would need to make good on his threat to summon the police. The LAPD really doesn't like being called out on false alarms.

You know what gets me about this? I really just don't understand the mentality of these clerks and managers. I can understand them being wary of stolen goods but 2 copies of a game hardly seems like grand theft to me. It seems that all the stores that take trade-ins or buy old games have these same issues. It's obvious that these corporations have deals like these to get people into the store...then you have some jerk behind the counter shoving you out? What sense does this make? Although I have had some really cool workers at EB lately it stinks that people have to go through this. I too carry my receipts around with me just in case and I would have waited for the police to show up.

Over and over again people seem to think this is illegal or something. Once you bought that game at TRU or anywhere else you OWN it. You can do whatever you want with it (except return it to Wal-Mart because that is fraud) trade it in, throw it in the air, play frisbee, write on it...whatever.

If the store doesn't want to take your games fine no biggie...they have the right not to take them. It just seems there are other ways to go about this. The person behind the counter could have just explained why he didn't want to take them or said I'm sorry but I can only take 1 copy of each game. The biggest kicker is awhile back when EB found out that they had someone's stolen PS2 they made him buy it back rather than return it to him...and people complain about taking advantage of EB??? THEY ARE OFFERING THE DEAL....THEY DON't HAVE TO. Whatever happened to customer service???

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that EB, TRU and other stores have people watching sites like this for threads about taking advantage of their stores, especially since some idiots are running their mouths to clerks at the various stores about how they're working the system. If EB (or any other store for that matter) wants to limit trades as a result, I can understand completely, but they still need to maintain a decent level of customer service. It is possible to say "no" politely but firmly to a customer without pissing people off.

Yeah, it seems as though a lot of EB managers are menstruating about this whole deal thing and I know that EB corporate definitely regrets having this whole $10 bonus. Assuming there's truth to what the other poster said about EB cutting off the offer on the 18th, then I'm glad that I'm headed there on Friday to trade in a last bunch of games (and for the record, I'm not trading in 20 jampacks or some crap like that.) Anyway, with that whole EB being gay thing, it just makes me glad that I can buy stuff with the Edge card online rather than having to go to the stores where some really angry managers are. I luckily haven't had a problem with the managers yet though

I think it was more of bad timing of the promotion that overlapped the TRU clearance sale. Otherwise, they wouldn't be doing such drastic things.

Isn't it ironic that they are so quick to saycall us theives, when in times before this $10 promotion they are accepting trade-ins for games for pennies on the dollar of their real worth. I would never trade with them without this $10 promotion and the TRU deal. I'd rather throw games out then give them the satisfaction of buy a game from me for $10 and then selling them for $45.
I'd rather throw games out then give them the satisfaction of buy a game from me for $10 and then selling them for $45.
Realistically though, how many people do you imagine are actually paying $45 for a used game when the new copy is available for just $5 more (or the same price with GGC)? I think EB ends up keeping a lot of those $45 used games and having to deteriorate their value over time (probably for a big tax write-off I'm sure). As ridiculous as I think it is to pay $50 for most new games, I can't imagine many people are regularly paying $45 for used games.

Well I do think that people are buying games for $2-5 less and getting a used game as opposed to a new one. Stupid? Defintely. But it seems like it does work for EB otherwise they'd price them lower than they do.

When I was at the store on Friday, I traded in .Hack//Mutation for like $7 and then while I was still in the store, some guy buys the game I sold for $30. The retail price is $30 so that really amazed me. Even though the game is harder to find now, EB marking the game up like that is bordering on ridiculous.

Honestly, having worked in a game store, earlier on before CAG got as big as it has, I too would have thought someone stole duplicate copies of a game- but only ones that were absolutely brand new, 50 dollar games. WHO ON EARTH WOULD HAVE MULTIPLE COPIES OF A HOT GAME?! I'm not buying that mom, your aunt, and Cousin Merle all gave you the exact same game. No freakin' way.

But a 2.00 game? Whatever. Fine. But I'd still limit just one copy per- and if you send your friend back in 10 minutes later with another copy whom I saw you walking around with 20 minutes earlier? One trade-in a day. And I'll call my other branches to make sure you don't pull it on them too.
I'm not advocating the store and their policy- I hated most of them. But just "sticking it to them" is only going to cause tighter policies and limited quanities.
There's getting a deal, and there's exploiting a deal for capital gain. They don't owe us anything. THEY'RE GAMES, not the government. Private companies can do whatever the hell they want. Period.

And I hate em all for it.

That's exactly what I said in the first place punq. And like epobirs, nobody gets away with an act like this on me for very long. I would have dealt with it right there. But since it is later, follow the advice others have given. Call the DM. One of my infinite B&M bad experiences was when I was standing in line to buy a new game and someone said something about thinking about modding their Xbox. I turned to them and basically told them the disadvantages of doing such. The guy in front of me got done with his purchase, and the extremely anal *insert expletive here* at the counter started yelling at me. And I got a lecture about how they could never accept a used Xbox game, system or accessory from me since he had "caught" me talking about my modded Xbox. I tried to be polite and explain what I had said, that I didn't even have a modded Xbox, but he just started calling me a liar and said that now they wouldn't even sell me an Xbox game, for fear that I would copy it and try to return it. And if I ever tried anything, he would call the cops (and he pointed to the paramedics in the corner who had his manager on a gurney because he had just had a heart attack). So I said, yeah real smart, those are paramedics, not police. Then i tossed the GCN game in his face and walked out, down the hall to GS and bought the same game.

The only reason I didn't take him on right there was that his manager was having a heart attack. So my friend, who witnessed the whole thing from afar, asked what that was all about. I told him and he said it didn't surprise him because the same guy had given him crap three times previously (one time he gave my friend a ten minute lecture on how stupid he was because my friend has a PS2 and how great the Xbox is). So I said, "Let's take him down." We asked some of our other friends about EB and found some that had also had problems with the kid. So we all called in our complaints. The next week the jerk was no longer working there.

They were not at all happy that I was in store with game in hand to purchase and some power-hungry-quasi-omniscient geek made me walk down the hallway and pick up the same thing at GameStop instead. Believe it or not, most companies (even large ones), like happy, loyal, return customers. Employees, on the other hand, are a dime a dozen. You just have to get to the right people in order to change a situation.

Before saying anything else, I'll agree... there are complete asses out there who enjoy having some position of authority for moments like these. Luckily, I haven't had to deal with an employee like this. The EBGames guys are just doing their job where I work. Had a problem with the demo discs, but I didnt throw a fuss.

With that said, I see very little of a problem with trading in multiples, if it works. But people should be wary and expect problems. Right now, EB is sitting on thousands of awful jampack games that they'll never be able to sell back. They probably have more used copies of Mad Maestro than Halo. And for some reason, people have 15 copies of Primal. Unless EB is aware of the TRU sale, the assumption should be that the games are stolen. How many other reasons can there be that someone has 15 copies of Primal? Even 2? And in some cases... still sealed?

Someone was clued in to what was going on and some employees were alerted. Stealing or not, this deal allows us to manipulate the system. EB is getting ripped off, and they're figuring out why and how to stop it. For some reason, stealing is why they think its happening. For future reference, I would recommend just politely carrying out the rest of the transaction. Asking questions just invites unnecessary conflict, unfortunately. It's the reason why I didnt ask why they wouldnt take my jampack and Nintendo demo disc: I know why they wouldnt take it. EB had enough trouble selling Billy Hatcher, let alone a 2 year old demo of it.

"Isn't it ironic that they are so quick to saycall us theives, when in times before this $10 promotion they are accepting trade-ins for games for pennies on the dollar of their real worth. I would never trade with them without this $10 promotion and the TRU deal. I'd rather throw games out then give them the satisfaction of buy a game from me for $10 and then selling them for $45." (I'm being lazy about quoting)

I dont know what games are getting only 10 dollar trade in value and then sold at 45. Most of the big name games from the holidays still fetch 30-35. Doesn't Psi Ops still get 10 despite being a 20 dollar game now? I'll admit... there are times when EBs trade in prices arent that great, but they're very careful to price their used items in order to make a profit. If people didnt buy that 45 dollar used game, they wouldnt sell it at that price. Once it stops selling at that price, it drops. Thats just the way it works.

As much as EB is using used games as a profitable service for themselves, its a fantastic service for gamers looking for obscure titles that would never be in a local store at this point. I probably wouldnt find Panzer Dragoon Orta otherwise, so despite some lackluster trade ins, I appreciate that they offer the service.

A couple of things:

Any of you Sac area CAGers go to the Davis store? Because someone there is about to get shit-canned for a really ugly dispute with a customer that sounded awfully like a "accused of theft" deal.

And here's the scoop on why this promo might end on the 18th:

There was a group of 3 managers in the LA area that were selling jampacks and allowing them to be traded back in on the same transactions. Not only would the be an infinite store credit loop, but they were also putting them all on edge cards, thus not only giving the edge cards for free, but they were trying to bump up their stores numbers. They all got fired :).

That also reminds me that those idiots that were selling the penny guides for $5 with free edge card all got fired too AFIAK

I've never been to the Davis store. I also don't think I'm going to call and complain, today I traded in the last couple of games I had at the Loehmans EB with no problems and used my credit to grab a cube and a few games, so now that I have a nice shiny new toy my anger has receded a bit, but I do plan on never going to the Arden Fair EB ever again.

That's just lovely. I think the 'best' of EB trade in offers are done until the next batch of consoles.
Forgive my ignorance, but when does the Buy 2, Get 1 Free Sale start again?
It starts this Friday, February 18th. It is a 3 day sale, through to Monday, the 21st.

Oh man, that is ho ho HOLARIOUS

I will probably ask around as to which LA eb store managers got canned(i live in los angeles). As far as accusing someone of theft on a trade in and threatening to call the cops, they should know better.

If someone calls you a thief and you have the receipt, you could show them the receipt, or get witnesses for a lawsuit for slander. With all the dumb lawsuits going around, you could get a pretty penny if you made a big deal about it, expecially if the jerk at the counter makes a big deal out of it and you have witnesses.
