[Deal Dead] Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles $14.99 at Sam Goody [Now $49.99]

fwacce,

Nicely said. It seems that no one can be patient with this one. I ordered one and if I get it..it will be awesome. However if I don't this wouldn't be the first time and most likely won't be the last time. I think everyone needs to lighten up a bit.
Sam can't assume that we know it was a price mistake and therefore rightfully cancel the order.
this is certainly true, but look at the reaction at some ppl thinking they might not get the game. calling up the Better Business Bureau? we're trying to take advantage of a $35 price mistake. think about that for a few minutes before doing anything serious.

First of all, fwacce, excellent post, I could not agree more. I get very annoyed when people get upset when companies do not honor price mistakes. If they honor them (GameStop with the Going Commando deal, EB with Wario World, for examples), great. If they don't, how can one really hold it against them? Why do these people think the world owes them everything? Don't go crying to the BBB, they have enough to do dealing with legitimate complaints against business that really are ripping people off.

Max: Sam Goody can inform us that it was a price mistake, and therefore cancel the order. They do not have to assume we knew in advance. Legally, they need to be able to prove that it was a mistake (so that it does not appear that it was a bait and switch operation or that they are discriminating against certain people), but I really don't think anyone is going to press the issue, nor do I think anyone ought to.

But did they inform us? No they didn't. Instead they are probably pulling this "backorder" trick on us. What do we have to hold against them? Well, I am sure most of us here wouldn't get this game for full price at another store anyway. But those who were gonna do that had their time wasted by Sam Goody.

Just a quick question. If it was mistake, how come Samgoody hasn't sent any emails saying so? I don't see why it has to be drag this long. It's like they're just waiting or something.

we have no idea if they will or will not honor all the orders. its very possible there's a valid reason they haven't sent the games out, such as delayed shipments to their warehouses, etc. maybe they just haven't received them yet. no one seems to know for sure, so don't assume one way or another until the orders are either cancelled or filled.

I agree. Either say it was a mistake and cancel our orders, or ship the damn game :!:

I will agree with you that if all they are going to do is cancel the orders (which they most likely will), then they could have handled the situation better. If they'd go ahead and cancel, they could start selling them at the real price, but the way things stand, they are hurting themselves more than they are hurting any of us.

If the situation were slightly different, say it was a $10 savings rather than a $35 savings, something that one could reasonably assume was their actual price, and then they put them all on backorder, and then they cancelled, one would have a reason to complain, as there could be an opportunity cost involved (i.e. "I didn't get it from BB for their sale price because I was getting it from SG, but SG cancelled, and now BB is up to full MSRP"), but it still would not be a matter for the BBB.

I am not sure either, that's why I said probably. It just seems suspicious that the game would be backordered without shipping out a single one of them.

Its backordered because they need to buy them at $10 to sell them for $15. Since they can't buy them for that they will always be on backorder.

My guess is they moved all the inventory to the stores. That would make it backordered on the website.

If they happen to cancel my order I plan on issuing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
I suggest you all do the same if it comes to that.
Boy, it's starting to sound like FW over here.

Look... it was a price mistake. The key word being MISTAKE. They made an error. If they choose to fulfill orders, then count yourself lucky and thank them for the game at well below their cost. If you don't get the game then just move on. Don't try and punish a company for not wanting to lose a ton of money on an error. And don't try and make out on someone else's misfortunes. Remember this company has employees. These employees count on their jobs, and their jobs are more stable when they company is NOT losing money. Too often, people just think of a company as some faceless entity and they don't realize that the company is made up of working people.
First of all, how do I even know it was a mistake? SG has yet to contact me saying so.
If they emailed me saying so, I'd move on.

And contacting the BBB isn't going to ruin a company. It's not like I'm filing suit for crying out loud, I'd just be issuing a complaint and rightfully impacting their sales for insulting customers such as myself if they want to play the ol "cancel the backordered item" game.

It's true that Goody made a mistake but this post is the polar extreme of the people going crazy over the mistake. Goody is not going out of business and/or firing people because of a possible mistake on thier website. Goody will go on because the amount of money they may lose is immaterial to them overall

What really sucks is that if everyone here just ordered one copy they never would have noticed. but I know there are people that ordered 100s and that flags the system so they take a closer look and see the problem.

...and you know people ordered 100's how? I bet you a VAST majority of CAG members ordered 1 or 2 tops. When I see a deal like this I always try to order 2 (1 for me, 1 for a friend who always misses these deals). In this case I only ordered one

i think everyone should stop posting here from now on until either someone recieves the game or sam goody officially cancels the order. all this other bullshit is just speculation.
and by the way, i got my copy from eb the other week, and if you have the means for multiplayer it is worth 50 bucks easy.

Maybe the CAG people only bought one, but someone posted it on fat wallet and I know they ordered tons.

They credited back my CC. I ordered my 3 before there was a reply on this post. This is officially dead.

since the deal has died, i decided to buy the game used so i can return in a week to gamestop. wow this game is awful to me....slow paced, no story, no explanation of why that miasima fog even exists.

its so watered down, its not really for expierenced players at all.

i mean i hate to say this...but its really...childish...

Multiplayer. ALLLLLL about the multiplayer. I don't even play it w/o friends. No story? Exactly. Just like the Mana games. (In general.)

Looks like SamGoody still intends to fill these orders as of now. I got the same email today I got one week ago:

I just got the same email, but they've already let my payment go. Will they charge me again and send me the games? Or are they just messing with us?

Maybe they can't keep the money this long without delivering a product, so they had to credit your money back onto your credit card. If they do intend to ship the game when it arrives, you might see a new charge then on your statement.

Those emails are automatically generated by their inventory software. If there are orders on file that are backordered it will send out an email after a certain amount of time. At some point the orders will be canceled.

I called the 800 number and they said they are still waiting for new stock from the manufactorer. He said it should be "anyday now". Take that for what it's worth though...

Most decent companies only charge your card once it ships. I have never seen my card charged yet. I imagine they did a preauthorize to ensure that it was a legitmate account.

Someone want to take a hit for the team and order one from the site at full price? If you get it then you know the game is not really backordered but it would have to be someone willing to pay full price which is doubtful here lol
Most decent companies only charge your card once it ships. I have never seen my card charged yet. I imagine they did a preauthorize to ensure that it was a legitmate account.
This sounds right, even the e-mails show $0.00 charged and they state your card will not be charged until it ships the item. My statement shows nothing from Sam Goody yet and probably never will(still hoping). I hate bumping this topic until something is actually canceled or shipped, but it's already on top so screw it.

So has anyone placed a second order at full price? If they do ship that then they could be in some trouble with the BBB. Now if they keep that on back order they may be telling the truth.

Only two hopes at this point. 1) They really do not have any in the warehouse because they did not get any shipments. (highly unlikely).
2) They are intentionally holding all orders so that they cancel the cheaper ones. Then they will ship the people who paid $50 their games. (My only hope with this is that they currently have 10,000 copies in their warehouse because their computer already placed the orders due to the backorders. Maybe then they will clearance them at $29.99? Most people who really wanted this game already got it and are not going to order it from Sam Goody.

I'm tempted to order one at full price to see if it goes through. I would most definately cry foul play if they send me that one. I just know that in the end it's probably not worth my time.

Has anyone heard anything? I received the weekly update that they are still trying to fill my order!

Come on now it has been how many weeks? The game is in every store even Wal-Mart has stacks of this game with free GBA cables!

I got the same standard message.

You know when I ordered this I knew it was 99.9% likely it was a mistake, and if they had sent me an email the next day saying they would not fill the order I would have been understanding.

It's been three weeks since I ordered it now. I've had a couple of oppurtunities to get it less than $40, but of course not nearly as cheap as $15 so I waited to see Sam Goody's response.

To cancel the orders now would be poor business practice. Man up and take the hit, since the mistake wasn't immediately acknowledeged.
Considering how quickly they changed the price after word hit, they obviously knew about it.

I just got this message

The video game shipping industry must be on strike

My thought is the same. I would have expected them to cancel it immediately. Since they have not; I expect they will honor the price and fulfill the order. Now the question is will they wait for a few months so that sales of the game have dropped before fulfilling it?

Alright everyone. I have some new info. After dealing with several sam goody (musicland) reps on the phone, I've learned that all of our orders are set to expire on March 9th. I was told, however, that I (we) would be allowed to renew our orders, again at $14.99.

In order to do this we have to call them (I assume) while our orders are still valid.

So I say we deluge them with renewals and keep the hope ALIVE!

I also talked with Sam Goody today and they told me they had 834 orders for FF:C still. They told me that many GBA games that came out in the beginning of Feburary had still not arrived. Take that as you will.

Thanks for the heads up, The_Continental. If they're just jerking us around, then I'm going to extend my order out as long as possible. They're starting to remind me of Best Buy.
