I feel like giving away Pokemon. Anyone want Chimchars, Turtwigs, Feebas?

Just to specify, I have only two Chimchar Eggs and the rest have hatched. For Turtwigs, all have hatched. Feebas, I have Eggs and hatched.

Also, all Chimchars and Turtwigs are named. Let me know if you want the name changed to something special or if you want the names changed back to defaults.

Feebas are all still named FEEBAS.

Lemme know.
Which gives more EXP to Pokemon in battle? Using a Pokemon received in a trade or using a Pokemon given Lucky Egg?
They are the same I believe. 1.5x rate. But you can always stack the two together.
They are the same I believe. 1.5x rate. But you can always stack the two together.
...I never thought of that. Holy shit.

And I almost had a Lucky Egg. Sort of. Someone was trading a Chansy with a Lucky Egg on GTS. All they wanted was an Ampiom. I dumped my Aipom off at the Day Care, cycled like mad, withdrew it at level 31, and battled with it to level 32 so it would learn Double Hit.

...but I guess this whole process took a half hour or so. I guess I was crazy to think the Chancy would still be on GTS. And it certainly wasn't.

well here's my wifi battle team:

heracross -- physical sweeper
skarmory -- wall
infernape -- special sweeper
mismagius -- annoyer
dragonite -- physical sweeper
milotic -- multi-purpose

all EV trained in their respective stats of course :)
But if you are looking to build a new team, it's good to grasp general concepts about team making.
Thank you thank you for the info! I hadn't seen the page you linked to at psypokes, and it is exactly what I'm looking for... so thanks! :)

I was thinking it was important to have a pokemon of each type (fire, water, etc) in the team... but it sounds like move types are more important than the type of pokemon?

Mind you this is just for the game, not for wifi battling. I don't imagine I'll be doing much of that, I'm sure most people would wipe the floor with me, good team or no

Hmm, people can debate about that. But the general idea is to have good type coverage. Basically to cover up your weaknesses as much as possible. For example, earlier in this thread or the other (forgot which one) they were discussing Metagross who is obviously weak to fire and ground attacks. If he has the ability Levitate (forgot what it was called with Meta, but it nulls ground attacks.) he is immune to one of his weaknesses. Then if he packs a ground move like the popular earthquake, he can have a fighting chance against fire types. Overall, the Metagross now has good type coverage via careful selection of his abilities and attacks. This may eliminate having to have a water or grass pokemon to counter Metas weaknesses, thereby freeing up a slot. That would be a simple example of type coverage, I think. (I may be forgetting fighting weakness, oh well).

However, sometimes it can be a good idea to have multiple typed pokemon. Say you have a water pokemon out on the field, and you have a very good feeling the opposing pokemon will throw a lightning attack. You can switch in a pokemon that is ground (immune to electric), electric (resists .5x), or better yet has volt absorb (absorbs lightning attacks and converts to hp regen), possibly giving you the upper hand. That would be an advantage to having multiple typed pokemon. This plays more of a key part in vs battle because of the turn system being different (can't choose in between pokemon fainting).
stupid question but how do you raise the happiness of a pokemon so it will evolve?
Let it hold a Soothe Bell, give it massages, feed it those berries which raise friendliness (forget which ones), battle with it.

Man theres soo much to think about with this game! I too first thought I should just make each Poke be of a different type, but now I see thats not all there is too it. I need to cover as many bases as I can with my 6 pokes.

btw: unrelated, but I had to share my joy. Yesterday I got to the part in my game where you try and capture the legendary Pokemon for your game, in my case Dialga. I walk up to him, the fight starts, first thing I do is throw a Quick Ball at him... wobble, wobble, wobble... CAPTURED! hahaha! I caught a legendary with a quickball without even damaging him or giving him a status ailment! My friend uses the Master ball to cap his Pialka. He was pissed when I told him how I caught mine. =D

I had my Budew hold something all the time, and fought with him... I had 2 hearts form him, but still nothing... I finally got to Hearthome city, and made him a poffin (even though it wasn't his favorite taste)... then I read somewhere you had to take so many steps to evolve a pokemon that way... so I gave up on it, thinking I'd just wait it out... but he ended up evolving shortly after, when he hit about L26. I think battling with them is probably about the best thing you can do - just don't let them faint, of course.

I don't know how much this will help, but I was just so tickled to have my little Buddy evolve into Roselia, I had to share the story ;)

I found an FAQ all about raising happiness when I was googling about the topic, but I'm not sure where it was... you might try GameFAQs, though. It was very interesting...

Oh, found another link that can help in deciding how to create movesets and teams. Cred to the neoseeker forum.

Also another interesting link is the tier list they came up with. If you're having trouble finding generally good or bad pokemon for versus, it's a good reference, but by no means set in stone.

The easiest way I found to raise happiness is to give them a bunch of vitamins. I got my Riolu to evolve right away by taking him to Veilstone, feeding him a bunch of vitamins, and then taking him to the island in the northeast. I put him in front, switched him with another pokemon and finished the fight. Riolu gained 9 levels, and evoled into Lucario on the spot.

Are the 2 stories the exact same in both games? I remember in blue/red it was slightly different I thought...or one of the pokemon GBA releases it was at least.

I have a question.

I just got my 8th Gym Badge and received the 'Waterfall' hm. I figured I'd give it to a Magikarp, which I could then level up into a Gyarados (sp?). So I caught a Magikarp and put it in my party, but when I booted up the Waterfall move, it said my Magikarp was unable to use the move.

WTF? Isnt he a water type Poke?

My Bibarel already has 4 HM's that I need to use every day. I had to waste a slot on my Machamp so I could climb up mountainsides, and I have a golbat that I use for fly. How many damn spots on my team do I need to waste on 'utility' Pokemon? >(

I believe Magikarp can only learn splash, which attests to his uselessness. And for those "utility" pokemon. It's usually recommended to have Bidoof (the evolved or "standing up" form of Bidoof) and Skarmory. Those two can cover all the HMs shared between them. Skarmory is after the main game, but you can get him from a trade easy.

Or if you're a high roller, two Mews since they can learn every HM/TM.

The two gba games are identical in story. Even the FireRed and LeafGreen remakes were identical in story, I played through enough of them to know.

Natures matter when you get into the competitive seen. Please refer to the OP. Massive helpful linkage there.

Ok thanks...umm is there any guide though that lists the best nature for each type of pokemon? Right now I'd like to know Piplup's best nature...but ya I didn't see a guide that listed the best ones.

Actually, I might not need a guide. I know a website where I can find the stats of each pokemon with a normal nature, so, for example, heres empoleons stats: (in order, hp, atk, def, spd, spatk, spdef)

84 86 88 60 111 101

Would I want a jolly nature to increase the low speed and, then decreasing the high spatk? Or how does that work to decide the best nature to get the best pokemon for competitions?

As far as I know, a good nature is not if rarely dependent on type. However, nature is dependent on a lot of things. Things such as moveset, role, and stats. Generally, you want to beef up the highest stat and not care about the stat you aren't going to use or can sacrifice. Picking the right nature serves this purpose.

Also, natures give +10% and -10%. So the lower the number the smaller the yield. The higher the number, the larger the yield. A jolly poke with 100 base will get 110 SPD from jolly, whilst a poke with base 50 will only get 55 from jolly. 10 compared to 5. Also it depends what you want to prioritize. A common debate is between speed and attack when choosing natures and distributing EVs.

Overall you want to focus on a pokemons strength, not the weaknesses. That's what the team is there for, to cover for each other's weaknesses.

oooo cool thanks for the explanation. So ya...if a pokemon has only 50 or 60 in something it's not really worth getting the +10% in that stat. If it's 120, you're doubling the points in that stat. At first I thought it meant a "10% greater chance of increasing the stat further each lvl up" or something, so ya that helps a lot right there.

Guess I'll go for a Quiet, modest, or mild type then

otherwise I'll just enjoy the game and maybe level characters up good if I decide to play online a lot

Is there a list or something of the pokemon where it actually matters what gender you get? I noticed that to get a Gallade it has to be a male initially...
I believe it's just Snorunt and Ralts are the two that need to be a specific sex to get different pokemon.
Umm does anyone have a Chimchar?

NVM, had writing here but noticed theres a TRADE thread xD

Well, woot! I've beat all 8 gyms now :D I've been reading up about the elite 4, though. I think I need to start leveling up so new guns, and get my old ones a bit higher... What is a good place to level? My team is in the mid to high 40's...

I'm also wondering, can you fly back to town and recoop between trainers? or do you need to do all of the elite 4 at once?? And who do you best recommend to beat them? I know you guys have talked to me about have pokemon that do certain types of mvoes, but I mostly ahve varying types of pokemon now... Empoleon, Luxray, Roselia, Dialga,, and Rapidash. I've caught a Gastrodon, I have a Staravia to level up, and Riolu to work on. Wondering if I should be getting a Graveller to work on as well, not caring too much for Onix.

I tried looking through some of the thread, but I don't have time to read all 37 pages :/ so hopefully I'm not rehashing something that's been asked 20 times before...

Well, once you go through the door you can't go back. So you need to stock up on potions and what not. A safe level to get to is 60ish since the highest level pokemon get up to 60-62. Or at least high 50s since the first of the elite 4 have 55ish pokemon.

the highest level pokemon in the eilte four is a lvl 66 garchomp. I went through with 4 lvl 55 pokemon and it was a challenge. but, if you go with 6 lvl 55 pokemon, you'll do fine.

Meh you can do it if high 40s...this was my first Hall of Fame team

Torterra Lv49
Gyrados Lv47
Luxray Lv46
Infernape Lv51
Staraptor Lv49
Bibarel Lv49

Most of them actually gained their few levels while in there, so started a little lower heh.

First guy you'll be fine with say someone with a flying type move (and someone with a ground move...like Earthquake for Drapion).

Second guy you'll want some grass moves for Whishcash and Quagsire and the rest as well or switch to someone with water moves.

Third guy you'll want some water moves, dark moves (for Driftbloom...or however you spell it I forget >.>), and flying or more water for his Infernape.

Fourth Guy you'll want some dark type moves or some heavy non-fighting moves. Some fighting/fire for his Bronzong.

League Champion is varied, Spiritomb has no weakness so how I managed to beat it at a low level was using Torterra with leech seed and using heavy hitting moves. You could just go give it a try and see how far you can go. That's what I did, I wasn't going to save...because I remember when playing the original games when you died you lost 1/2 of your money. Then I saw you don't lose that much it varies, could be like 15k or so, which is nothing.

Hi
I just got this game few days ago (Pearl)

I haven't played a new Pokemon at all.. last game was FireRed(which was simply a remake lol)
So my brother sent me his Chimchar (I picked Piplup) and all my Pokemon are fine.. except for Chimchar, he acts up and doesn't listen to me.

So how do I beat his ass into shape?

well it depends on how many badges you have and what level he's at. if you have no badges and he's over level 10, the he won't listen to you until you get a badge.
well it depends on how many badges you have and what level he's at. if you have no badges and he's over level 10, the he won't listen to you until you get a badge.
He's 12, or 13? And I already have the first badge.

I just found my Firered game (it's been missing for over a year now lol, so now I can transfer my old pokemon >.> and get elekid)

BTW Lilboo if you want to get a common pokemon I'll trade ya, so I can have more Trainer IDs. I could give you say a Starly, but it has been bred Roost so at least it's special heh.
halu are you building a new battle team?
Sorry, haven't picked the game up recently since I don't have wifi atm. I tried those water and steel ones, but never tested them out.

Ok again, I'm not playing this game MUCH..I already got my 2nd badge :D

I don't have FireRed or LeafGreen. Are there other games that you can use to import Pokemon...? And how would you even do this?
SORRY for being an extreme noob to this, but I haven't played a Pokemon game in YEARS.

Can you catch all the Pokemon between Diamond/Pearl? I mean Pokemon from all the regions..or is that where FireRed/LeafGreen comes in at? Also Ruby & Sapphire works..?

Again, sorry for these really stupid/noob questions..:(

Oh, and one more thing. Someone gave me an egg..and I need an energetic pokemon for it to hatch? What? LOL

I believe you can import Pokemon from any of the GBA Pokemon games.

But you cant do it until you beat the games, meaning getting all 8 badges and fighting the elite four and all that.

Once you do that, theres a place in the bottom right part of the map called 'Pal Park', it will be closed until you beat the game, but once it opens you can import any Pokemon you own in a GBA game. Of course the GBA game needs to be inserted into the DS. You can import up to 6 Pokemon a day. They dont go right into your inventory tho, you need to catch them in the Pal Park area. Also note that when you import Pokes from the GBA games, they are not copied over, they are imported over, meaning they will be gone from the GBA game.

Thats about all I know about importing Pokes.

No idea about the energetic egg thing, sorry! lol

Very nice, Thank you :)
So I take it you can't find all the pokemon between Diamond/Pearl? (because my friend has Diamond, I have Pearl)

I do, want some of the originals.like Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squritle :)..especially since I got Pokemon Battle Revolution coming my way!

Yes you can import 6 pokemon a day per GBA game though. My wife has FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald so she transfers 30 pokemon a day.

Even if you don't have Diamond, you will have access to all the pokemon in the Sinnoh region (since you will encounter all of them, pokemon not available in your version could be obtained through the GTS). This is of course the initial Sinnoh version and not the extended version as the National Pokedex allows you access to new areas and new pokemon.

Here are some links to help ya.

Wild Sinnoh Pokemon: http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/wildnonshinou.shtml

Pokemon obtainable with GBA game insertion:
http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/gbapokemon.shtml

Pokemon obtainable through swarms (after getting national pokedex):
http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/swarms.shtml

Pokeradar Pokemon (after national pokedex):
http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/poketore.shtml

Pokemon obtainable only through Palpark (ie transferring them from your GBA games):
http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/unobtainables.shtml

I could breed you some of the original starters, I got those already.

Ya its too bad you need to insert old games. I wanted elekid, arcanine, zapdos, etc. But I think you need to insert for those...

Very nice, thanks for that info :)
Could you do a brief explanation on the GTS? I was there..and I think I understand it..but is this right? You upload a pokemon into it, and you choose what you want..well, how exactly do you wind up getting it..?

Ooh and when you say breed some of the original starters..you mean.. like Bulbasaur?! :D Oooh if you can breed me a Bulba I'd be so happy!! (I actually don't have ANY grass..grrr..)

i think someone offers you something, you see what they have and you accept or decline.

GTS - you can either deposit a pokemon and request a pokemon you seen, the gender and level.
You can also look up pokemon others have deposited and offer them the pokemon they want.
