Dragon Age II - Gen. Discussion and Info - Mark of the Assassin DLC 10/11 800 pts.

So anyone think we'll get some DLC news during E3? Or does BioWare want everybody to just forget that this game exists?
I should certainly hope so otherwise there's a good chance this will stay in my backlog for a few years. I've gotten exactly the amount of play time I wanted so I'm content. More than enough for a length critique but despite its flaws at least the DA team made an honest effort to appease both new and old fanbases. Shame the rest of the internet is too blinded by nerd rage to respect it, but oh well. It's not like I'm ever a stranger to the minority opinion when it comes to Bioware titles.

It's unfortunate however the choices they made in placing their terrible writing above everything else had a detrimental effect on how I wanted to play as well who with which while tolerable soon became unacceptable. And yes, the main storyline was embarrassingly mediocre.
Al Qaeda
Anders was the final straw that broke the camel's back. The fact that any build showing a great disinterest in tolerating that insufferable f*ck had to find diluted alternatives to healing or switch to a pure DPS oriented strategy sapped what little interest I had in finishing my 5th playthrough. The current tweaks to combat and abilities via current patch guaranteed I won't go near this game until new DLC surfaces. I'm not interested in accounting for and fixing the new weaknesses their "fixes" brought to light in my builds. Not worth it.

Amen. Thanks for reminding me to pick up the old novels though for some light reading at work. At least they learned from past mistakes and made sure not to promise us years of DLC support this time. ;P

I'm really surprised there is no DLC news. Pretty dumb, I think. DA:O had tons of life after the main story with DLC and look at the great things they've done with Mass Effect 2 with DLC. I liked DA2 much better than Origins, so I was looking forward to it. Missed opportunity, if you ask me.

While most of the DA:O DLC was decent, if not great (though I love me some Shale!) I was looking forward to them expanding upon the ideas presented for the DA2 DLC. It's really a shame they haven't yet (and I assume won't if they haven't done so already).

When was Awakening announced? That was the 2nd major DLC for Origins, even after Return to Ostagar was delayed for so long. Awakening came out in mid-March, and Origins released the first Tuesday in Nov. 09.

If the same time frame was kept we should be seeing something for DA 2 soon. Now that the game is 95% fixed (as fixed as its going to be) I want some DLC. I'm starting to be an antsy as a frequent Bioware forum poster.

Well, here at least is some confirmation that something specific is in the works.

Lots of talk about DA2's "polarizing" reception and incorporating fan feedback into the DLC. My favorite comment regarding "fan feedback": "The DLC will include Geralt?"

I still love you Dragon Age II!

I feel the same here too. I enjoyed DA II much more than DA:O. I do hope that they do release some story DLC soon..

Your love is given to easy Ryu. Far to easy.

Says the guy who's currently playing a pervy strategy RPG that would have looked only slightly outdated had it been released for the PSX.

The Exiled Prince DLC is available on the Marketplace, but there are some items (Adder of Antiva, Apostate's Courage, Might of the Sten, Ring of Resilience, and Seeker's Bulwark) that you can only get in the Signature Edition.

and i just found out that they expire next year.. great..

It probably won't actually expire on that date, if the DLC codes included in Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins are a guide. Both of them failed to expire on the appointed date, and AFAIK they're still working to this day.

Yeah, I just redeemed a code for the Blood Dragon Armor a couple of weeks ago so those old codes are still working. I'd expect the SE content to still be kicking around for another year or two.

Speaking of which, I just cracked my copy of DA:O CE open to play about a week ago too. I'm looking for the 360 thread related to the first game, as it had a lot of info in it I wanted to go back and review since I'm actually playing the game now. Searching, however, comes up with nothing- just the DA2 thread.

Did it disappear?

Link was in the OP. ;)
The first set of comments had me rolling. Let's hope it's something substantial.
Yeah, I liked the bit about the blocked off passage containing a chest or a skeleton, maybe both. :applause:

The "it'll be some armor for a class you don't use" is what got me. I'm crossing my fingers for a new companion or Awakening-esque endeavor. Either way I'll definitely give it a chance. Just... no more DLC items or unnecessary tweaks to the game play please.

I don't need an awakening size expansion, just a good solid 2 to 4 hour mission, hopefully set after the main game. Either way, I'll get it. Can't wait!

The coming DLC is called Legacy, and the achievements have been leaked (120 points).

Not a lot of plot details revealed in the achievement descriptions, but hopefully everyone has an Act 1 save handy--
one achievement is for completing a quest with Bethany or Carver in the party
.

The achievement list has done very little to boost my enthusiasm so I'm definitely looking to the Comic-Con reveal to fix it. What you mentioned in particular feels like a slap in the face if you can't play this post main game. Still... I'll buy it. Well probably.

Achievements look rather pedestrian. Nothing overly exciting, but I'm wondering if
the reference to the mountains means it happens after the main game
. I hope that's the case.

Well you can have Bethany or Carver in your party if they're a Grey Warden and you're on the same side as them post-game. My post-game save has Bethany available to me, and she's a beast now.

When she came back to my party I got to level her for the 12-15 levels she had left, but the game automatically updated her magic and willpower because of the equipment she had but I still got attribute points to give her also. Basically I got her to 50 magic and willpower and put the rest on health.

She had learned every elemental spell when she left, and now she knows all of the healing and force mage trees also. I don't even miss Anders in the slightest.

Very excited for this DLC! I know the price tag is steep, but I just have to believe it'll be a beefy quest. Am I being blindly optimistic? Probably.

Sort of confusing Destructoid preview for Legacy...

According to the article, you actually play as Malcolm Hawke, and it's a prequel story to Dragon Age II proper. That doesn't make sense to me, since the gameplay demo already showed what looked like default Hawke, along with Merrill, Aveline, and Varric in the party. Screenshots show Fenris as well.

Also, BioWare has specifically said that due to the poor reception given Darkspawn Chronicles and Leliana's Song, future Dragon Age DLCs will be sidequests that fit into the main game, not completely separate entities. It would be quite a reversal if that were the case for Legacy...

I'd assume it starts out as a prequel with Malcolm then time skips to Hawke otherwise this is has to one of the most disappointing premises for a DLC I've ever seen. You'd think at least one of your crew members or any of the major NPCs you've interacted with would remember going on an adventure with the main protagonist's father. I'm guessing there's a ridiculous plot device buried somewhere to take care of that though.

LOL @ at the unnecessary enemy buffing as well. DA2 was anything but a cake walk for those playing on any setting higher than Normal and not abusing elemental multipliers. Reminds me of the Dead Space focus groups who said they found it too scary for them to finish. Shameful and I'm glad Visceral didn't take their input too seriously for their fantastic sequel.

I'll still give it a fair shake with all of my completed profiles, but man has my interest in Bioware waned over the years. Bethesdia's been picking up the slack lately though so it's all good.
Ouch. Hopefully someone here will get into it today and give an opinion on whether worth it.
Well I'll be playing probably late tonight, so I'll get on and share some thoughts if I can.

I can't use your opinion. You have an unusual love for DAII, lol.
I can't use your opinion. You have an unusual love for DAII, lol.
That is true! Chances are I'm going to love this even if an "average" person might be unimpressed. I'll try and comment on the length and the differences/similarities to the main game at least.

This guide on X360A pegs it as 3-4 hours, with extremely easy achievements.
I can't remember did DAII have us save a "clear file" we can load up to use?
There is a post-campaign save, but all you can do if you load it up is walk around Hawke's manor, and apparently now play this DLC.
If you don't have a character still in Act 1 to use, you can use your post-campaign save to get the achievement for playing through the DLC with Carver or Bethany in the party, provided they are in the Templars/Circle at that point as opposed to being dead. :)
I have a post game save with
Bethany in the Grey Wardens. Would that work?
Hmm, good question, I could see that going either way, since
she's still alive, but maybe not easily accessible since she's not based in Kirkwall.
