Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies - For Liquid Metal we would Slime!
It's just a side quest, not part of the main game.
You may even hit stores that carry it.
Just go the when you have it or remember.

I trying to find a map so I can find Geeba Castle.
Want a Driller Pillar so I can make awesome items for my Martial artist.

Update: Just sailed to Gleeba.
Yaaaaaa
I know. I've moved on. If I luck out and find it, great. If not, no worries. I'm enjoying it either way. Hoping to unlock the wifi store soon.

Gah, another Mini Medal from the online store... but at least it helped me obtain my meteorite bracer. That shit is going on my healer. Tired of grinding exp, so I'll go back to grotto grinding as soon as I grind for some gold to fully pimp out my party. So far I have...:

Finished the first treasure map, and got the second one but the second boss was WAY tougher. It didn't make alot of sense because the regular enemies in the the 2nd grotto were way EASIER than the ones in the first grotto. ?? The level on the first map was 1, and the level on the second was 14, so go figure.

I know legacy (?) bosses level up every time you defeat them (and drop mini medals), but I'm not sure about the lesser grotto bosses (Equinox/Shogum/etc). I more or less steam rolled through about 15 or so grottos after I beat the game before deciding to grind for some skills.

What's a grotto?
I found a treasure map and thinking of checkin it out, is that where I'll find a grotto.
Gotta hunt some more fresh water and then alchemise some better staves.

Lee, my Martial Artist is level 25 and his attack is 227.
Sweet.

What's so good about the Paladin?
I know sage's are healers, Gladiators are better fighters

I'm dense. I completely overlooked canvassing comments many, many times. It finally sunk in that I can't get my Inn upgraded through Wi-Fi. Oh well, guess I'll hope to do so at Game Stop, if I manage to make it there.

OMG, i just got m butt kicked by the boss at the end of the first treasure map.
DAMN, he knows a move that does like 80 damage to each of the guys.
Damn his blue lighting. Time to grind

How do the downloadable quests work anyway? Is it just enabling content that's already on the card, or actually saving new data to the card? Or is the downloadable content only stored in memory as long as the DS stays on?

Enabling content already on the card. Yes, it's bullshit.

Gigaslash in the hands of a boss hurts. Especially when spammed back to back in the same turn. ;(

EDIT: And then the next grotto boss I went against didn't do most than 25 total damage...

Makes sense. I wish the DS supported WPA encryption.
Yeah.. the DS only allows WEP, which is irritating. I find that I just keep swapping my wireless config when I go on heavy use of a DS game that uses wifi.

Not at all secure.. i wish they'd update the DS firmaware to support WPA or WPA2
I just remembered.. The reason that the DS can't be upgraded is because the connectivity software isn't IN the DS, it's on the cartridge.. which is a silly design that I'm sure was made to save a few megs of internal memory in the DS.

Thats why the DSi, which supports WPA in the OS for connecting to the Nintendo store and the like, can only use WEP for DS games.

If this was 2007, I would suggest that we all run out and get a Nintendo USB Wifi adaptor. But Buffalo got put out of business because of some patent thing with Cisco. A friend had two, and gave me one.. so I re-upped my wireless security to WPA2, but can still use my DS online - everything is great forever for BattleChicken!

My simple yet elegant solution to the fact my DS won't work on my home wi-fi: Take my DS on a quick daily walk down to the Starbucks a block from my office. Only takes me a minute or two to connect and get the latest from the DQVC. I don't even need to go inside.

One of my neighbors has an unsecured network that I secured for him. I make sure it stays on WEP and connect my DS's to that.

The signal is fairly weak, but it works. If I was playing a game online I'd need a better solution, but it works just fine for getting new pokewalker routes or using the global trading station. *edit* thought I was in a Pokemon thread for a second, but the same applies to DQIX, which I am playing.

Anyone going to the Gamestop event? I'm excited.
But is it only at participating Gamestops, or every store?

Edit: I really hate that I can't connect to Wi-Fi

Only participating Gamestops. There was a link posted earlier in the thread.

And I'd suggest doing what I do and finding a wireless hotspot. Any Starbucks should do, they all have free wi-fi.

I need to do that, when I am going somewhere. If only for the hell of it. I doubt I'd luck into anyone playing the game, within a reasonable drive. So my best bet would be to hope my GameStop does it.

Is it a unique map or one that can be obtained through normal spelunking? Not that I'll be able to go either way... but I'd still like to know.
Unbelievable, I had another Miracle Sword in my store today!

Now I've got two. How do you dual-wield? :D
I hate you.

I swear if I find another Agility Ring anywhere, I'm going to scream. I have like 13 of these fucking things. Several from the online store, from liquid metal slime drops, other enemy drops, and grotto chests.

Side note, I turned my Miracle Sword (from mini medals) into an Uber Miracle Sword and it seems to basically be higher damage. The amount healed is mostly relative to the amount of damage you deal. I've had my guy healing himself for 100 damage at a time from just an oomph (attack) buff and using Falcon Slash. Which is about 1/4th my damage.

EDIT: Saint's Ashes today. Probably the best item yet even if it's an alchemy-only item. Little surprised it cost 5000 though.

Yes, there will be lots of interesting panels, swag, premieres, celebrities and other stuff at Comic-Con. Whatever. Nintendo just gave us the real reason the July 22-25 event is worth attending: a new Dragon Quest IX map. If you bring your DS to Nintendo's booth, with the game running in Tag Mode, you'll automatically pick up the "Mortamor" treasure map, being offered for the first time in North America. Presumably, other people will be there doing the same thing, making it your best chance at multiplayer. If you aren't playing DQIX yet, you'll be able to spend some demo time with it at the booth (#2944).

From Joystiq.
Original press release

Edit: Damn, I didn't realize that Mortamor was
DQ VI's
last boss
. This will probably actually be a good map. Now I really wish I wasn't on the wrong side of the country for this.

So I finally got the guide yesterday which I'd pre-ordered. Gotta say it's pretty disappointing. All the information I need is definitely there (for the most part) but you've got to flip all over the place to get it, which is very annoying in a guide that size.

It's a high level map to have a legacy boss, but I'm sure it's obtainable through normal spelunking then. One way to find out I guess.

EDIT: Nevermind, Mortamor is normally a wi-fi quest reward. As are several other legacy bosses. So it'll be obtainable at some point or another regardless.

It's a really good thing I don't mind grinding (since there's usually something tangible - skills, money for goodies, etc, at the end of the tunnel) because one of the late game bosses just demolished my party in about 3 or 4 rounds.

Going to aim for Multiheal and whatever level seems dominating for my new Paladin.

I got to class change last night.. I should probably have kept with my existing party and progressed through to the end of the game.. or waited till I had some of the advanced classes unlocked, but dammit I want more skill points!

Man, I finally receive a treasure map that's level 54 and barely complete it because the boss was a beast to see my next treasure map be level 33. Which then followed with a level 7 map. I had finally thought I'd be able to complete the Luminary quest soon, but my hopes were quickly dashed.

Maybe I should try and complete some quests for a while...

The Starbucks next to my Gamestop went out of business/closed down. o_O

Weird, I know. I guess no one likes expensive coffee in my area..

Or Dragon Quest IX for that matter, cause I still haven't tagged anyone yet. -__-

Well, I managed to get the ability to fly post-game. It's kind of tough to decide what to do now, I guess I can start grinding grottos, but I haven't been able to get one higher than level 11.. I tried to find some Metal King Slimes, but couldn't find any in the place the guide said they'd be.

Any tips from those in post-game already? It really does feel like a whole new experience from the plot.

If you're going to grind for experience, I recommend the little highland area with a cave next to Angel Falls. While you don't see Liquid Metal Slimes quite as often as The Bowhole, more than one appears in battle a vast majority of the time leading up to five or six at once. To fight them efficiently you should get everyone to max spears or axes as they have a crit or miss hit. There's also a specific fan + fan ability that works well I hear, but I don't know what fan it is or where to get it.

As for grottos, the difficulty doesn't seem like it fluctuates much. You'll see the same bosses for like the first 35 levels at least. Trauminator probably being the toughest one before you hit the higher level non-legacy bosses like Atlas who can pretty much kill any character in a single turn unless you're up to a certain level and have a lot of +HP and such. I can tell you now that 300 isn't enough to stop Atlas from destroying a single character and if you want ultimate protection then invest in a Paladin who has a lot of HP and can shield allies.

Oh and miracle sword (or the uber version) is a pretty nice weapon still as it restores health a fairly significant amount. Sacred armor helps too, restoring around 25 HP a turn but the defense is kindof low so it will have to be replaced at some point.

And you also have questing, for things such as ultimate abilities for skills and classes.

(I'm also fairly certain that Metal King Slimes are in level 50'ish grottos. I haven't come across one yet unfortunately, but I've seen grottos with a bunch of liquid metal slimes [once] and a floor of entirely metal medleys.)

Same, but it was my first time to the Wifi store (just got that part unlocked) so it was still relatively exciting.
Bah, all I had in my store today was some alchemy ingredients and a Prayer and Agility Ring.
My shop wasn't even as good as that. All it had was crap. I would have at least bought the prayer ring.

I'm wondering what level I should be at for
the Lleviathan boss because clearly a party of Lv.17-18 wasn't good enough.
I went and trained a second class for my party up to Level 6 so I could get some extra Skill points. But for now I'll have to wait until morning because I'm tired.
Welcome to the "I loaded up the DQIX Online Store and all I got was this fucking Agility Ring." club.
I've been disappointed so far as well. You know it's a bad sign when you get excited to buy a Mini Medal. The best weapon I've heard of any one getting that I know is the Miracle Sword, which would be a downgrade for me at this point anyway, but it would still be nice to get something good.

How often are you supposed to get quests from it? I've only gotten one so far in 3-4 times trying..
How often are you supposed to get quests from it? I've only gotten one so far in 3-4 times trying..
I believe I read something somewhere that stated once a week, but I really don't know.

I had a surprisingly easy time with the last boss. Easier even than some of the fights leading up to it. Really good game for 60 hours, though I'm not sure if the post-game content will really last me as long as I hoped since a lot of the quests seem annoying enough or are so vague that I'll need to look up FAQs, which isn't ideal. We'll see!

The quests in general are probably the most disappointing part of the game to me. There are a few neat ones, but for the most part they're either annoying or vague like you said, and the rewards don't always justify the effort.

I got a quest from a Cat last night, so thats something.

As soon as I got class change, I changed classes for all my characters and got those to 15 or 16. Once I get them to 20, I will most likely change classes and start the process over again.

I appear to be addicted to skill points.

Worst case I'm going to use them as the motivator for doing skill point grinding. Starting back at Angel Falls and picking up quests as I find them, which will start to build up the levels for new classes. Dropped my level 44 Priest back down to the level 12 Paladin and my level 41 Armamentalist back to the level 21 Minstrel. I think I'll probably move the latter to Priest and then Sage once I get around to unlocking that.

I went ahead and downloaded my first quest in DQ9 by downgrading my wireless security. WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS. I'm not doing that again. Good thing I have other means of getting that content (it's already on the cart itself).

Did a bunch of skill point grinding tonight, now have my main character at 100 Sword, 100 Shield, and 100 Guts, he's basically unstoppable now as a Gladiator since he can use a shield. Still need to unlock Sage, but it's somewhat arduous since getting Great Trolls to spawn is annoying as hell.

Ugh, another day where the store doesn't display anything new.

And yeah, some quests are terrible while others are "ok". Unfortunately if you want the best equipment you'll at least have to do some quests to obtain some legacy grottos. I did do some quest where I received some armor and it's fairly upgradable to Emperor's Robe and Empress's Robe. Not bad for a sage that uses offensive and healing magic.

Well, it took me a few hours of just walking around, but I finally got enough Great Trolls to show up to unlock Sage. Glad I did, it's a great class.

Draekon, are they regular quests which unlock legacy grottos? Or DLC?
