Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies - For Liquid Metal we would Slime!

Just unlocked the Arma class after finally finding some metal slimes that didn't run.

Now Im hunting Scarewolves for my Martial Artist.
Helps that Im hunting helps with money for Miracle Sword and Lv up my guys.
I have enough but im gonna keep going so i can buy some shields.

My store was better today. Got some materials so I could alchemize a cautery sword into the aurora sword, which raises its attack by 28 over what the cautery sword gives. So my hero went up 51 attack from the rapier. I was also able to make a Mercury's bandana, which promptly went on my warrior.
Am I the only one who thinks some of the bosses are tough? Maybe that's just me with my 3 person party.

I finally beat that
Boss for the Coffinwell quest. I forget his name...and after going back to the Celstrian place, I have to go find the Fyggs.... hooray...
So, I wonder how people beat this game in the first day, and then have time to review it. If the game takes 40 hours to beat. :/
Why are you only using 3 people?
Have you tried the tag mode? From the sound of this post, it seems like the Japanese and American versions can communicate with each other.
We tried playing together but couldn't. Maybe we can try tag mode.

Currently rocking Warrior, Ranger, Priest, and Armamentalist, highest at level 25. I unlocked Paladin, but the lack of swords means I'll have to wait until I max swords to switch to that.

Seems like the Miracle Sword is a popular DQVC item this week. I've been buying just about anything that pops up for alchemy - not that I've done a whole heck of a lot of it. Should probably check on it after I got a bunch of royal soil. Also gotten a few rings (Agility, Prayer, Strength).
Wow, I just got a disappointing ass quest reward:

After you finish the Swinedimples Academy main story quest there are teachers there for all the weapons in the game. They give out quests for Level 30 in a weapon and Level 100 in a weapon. I'd already maxed out my sword skill for my main character, so I was able to do both. For the level 30 quest you get a decent sword (not great, but better than what I'd had at the time) so I figured for the level 100 quest (which isn't too hard, but required a bit of running around) I'd be getting an even better sword. Instead? I get a book which allows any character carrying it to use Gigaslash, which I'd of course already learned with that character (I think you get it at 88). Sure, it would be nice on another character, but I only have one sword-user in my party. Pretty damned disappointing for a quest which requires at least a reasonable amount of dedication to unlock.

This is a bit late on the reply to this, but I just noticed that you read the item that you gained incorrectly. It's actually a different, better, skill. More or less the Hi-Ougi/Ultimate skill of that weapon skill.

And before anyone clicks on the spoiler, there isn't much of a spoiler but it's related to Swinedimples.

It's different than the one you get at level 88 of the sword? If so, thanks for telling me, cause I did not notice that at all.

Yeah, it's called Gigagash and costs 30MP. The Wand one (100 Wands) allows a person to cast Zing and the Mage (Level 40) one allows the use of Weakening Wave (Lowers all enemies strength). Those are all the ones I have so far, but then there's also a list on GameFAQs under the skills FAQ.
How do you guys connect to DQVC?

I only have WPA :(
Yeah.. the DS only allows WEP, which is irritating. I find that I just keep swapping my wireless config when I go on heavy use of a DS game that uses wifi.

Not at all secure.. i wish they'd update the DS firmaware to support WPA or WPA2
How do you guys connect to DQVC?

Most routers will have WEP on top of WPA, so you can switch/choose between the two. However this will cause a majority of the routers to have their wi-fi passwords changed every time you switch (Annoying for people who connect devices to the router via wi-fi).

If you do switch and keep it at WEP, you should keep in mind that WEP sucks balls at wi-fi security. I could crack a WEP key with relative ease if I had a laptop in the range of the router signal. Not that most people would be able to do this, but I'm just throwing it out there.

I think I'm going to be giving this game a break for awhile, just got Persona 3 Portable today and really want to play that instead.

I hate how this game appears to cheat. This boss was going pretty easily. Then of course, the one time I need to heal, the boss goes first, despite EVERY OTHER ROUND at least two people (including the healer) went before him, and killed my hero. Then it took at least 5 tries with the priest to revive her, only for her to die again a few turns later due to the same problem. I won, but the hero stayed dead due to running out of MPs. It's not fun when a game arbitrarily ramps up the difficulty because you are winning.

I'm sorta in the same boat with my new setup. I plan on just switching it to WEP to do my DS business then switching it back. I can access DQVC now, but I don't think I can switch classes for characters yet.

Every single person who has written that this game is easy, please reserve your comments until after you face the final boss. Having now tried twice and failed, I can solidly posit that it's one of the most despicably cheap final bosses I've ever seen in an RPG. Particularly since, yes, the vast majority of the game is a cakewalk. For reference, I beat the second to last boss barely needing to heal once.

About to try for a third time, I suppose it's possible I'm just getting unlucky, but more likely the programmers were like "yeah, you think this game is too easy? chew on this."

Welp, 4th time's the charm. That guy was a bitch.

Definitely liked the main story, but looking forward to continuing to play the post-game for a while.

I utterly destroyed the last boss at level 40 using a Thief/Soldier/Priest/Mage. It did drag out longer than the rest and caused me to use two Magic Waters, but wasn't really bad.

Oh and the story isn't completely over yet. There's still one quest somewhere that continues the story a tiny bit. :p

EDIT: Mother fucker, all I got is another fucking agility ring in the online store today.

Spoiler-tagged just in case, though none of this is plot related:

I'm around level 40 too. I think from fighting him several times there's something weird going on with him. The first time it was just bad luck I got killed, since I was handling him pretty well, I just hadn't taken the time to properly set up my gear since I was used to the cakewalk. But the next two times he was nigh on unhittable, and cast several game-breaking spells which he had not cast a single time in the first battle, including several which healed him completely. The 4th time I fought him he was a cakewalk, and I did no leveling between attempts. Maybe it was just bad luck, but it seems more likely something is wonky with the way he's programmed.

Where's the last quest? I've only played about 20 minutes of the post-game, but I couldn't find it yet, though I could tell there was something else I needed to do.

Go talk to
the poor girl at Porth Llaffan. She starts the quest and good luck because if you don't have the items it'll cost you around 50k and the boss is pretty tough too. Only time I used Ygg Leaves to resurrect party members because I couldn't rely on Zing or really relent on healing every turn for that matter.
What do I do after
I get the boat?
Go after the Figgs. They're in every place you can go to more or less. Just don't miss what some NPCs say or else you may miss one of the spots.

I tried out the Arman class but seemed boring unless someone can tell me what he does.
I made a warrior and switched it to a Gladitor and does some pretty good damage like my Martial Artist.

Been grinding and saving mone tring to complete the Martial Artist quest of hit 5 Scarewolves with War Cry b4 dealing the killing blow.
My timing is never right but keep tring.

And god i hate the Pink Saiguni things.

My husband doesn't like Armamentalists, he says they are probably the worst class in the game.

Yeah bvharris, it's like sometimes this game just likes to cheat for no reason. The next boss after the one I mentioned was a joke. Really makes no sense.

Im finding it not to hard, which im liking.
Maybe becuase i grind after every boss even though they seem a lil easy.

When I do have a tough guy my main gu does egg on for my Martial Artist and he does heavy damage. And my Mage does good damage too.

Can't wait to try new classes later.

Anyone else find it weird that when ou open a new class you can't make a person that class you have to switch it at the Abbey. But its cool, Zoom gets ou there in no time.

Question everytime you DL the DQVC do you get a new quest or do ou have to beat the last one first. I got quest 121 and it says Im not far enough in my game.
Anyone know?

So how do you restore MP without sleeping at inns? Is there some kind of alchemy potion I need to do? If so, what?
So how do you restore MP without sleeping at inns? Is there some kind of alchemy potion I need to do? If so, what?
I pretty much used evac and then zoomed to a town to rest. Not sure if you can zoom yet (Same as a Chimera Wing), but that's what I do once I can. Otherwise I mostly just avoid most of the battles on the way to the boss while taking on at least enough to help the monster compendium. Then when I need to level, I hope on over towards one of the three metal slime areas that are available before you beat the game.

Draekon, when do you get the ability to fly/visit the previously inaccessible areas? I assume it's after that one mandatory post-ending quest?

I have Zoom. This is one problem I had with DQV. There was a MP healing item, but it basically did nothing to the point of being useless.

More or less.

Magic Water restores 30MP.
My mage and priest keep a few if I have a long drawn out boss fight.
You can find a bunch and make some. You can buy them too as they cost 500G.

Did some hunting for Iron Ore so I can make my guys some Steel Bars.
Anyone know if there is a map in game. Find myself using the item map and then trying to figure out which town is which.
Now I just Zoom to each town.

Thinkin of turning my Priest into a Mage so it can be a magic/healer.
Any my Preist into a Gladitor or a new class.
Whats the Ranger like and where do I find a Toxic Dagger?

My priest went full faith and rarely ran out of MP except for a couple boss battles towards the end of the game and the post-game story quest. Came close on a grotto once too. Her heals were about twice the power by the time I beat the story and now that she's a Sage, she heals for three times the amount almost. She also recently gained the Sage ability of -25% MP consumption which is all the more sweet.

Magic Water is ok, but when multiheal costs 17MP, it makes it kindof useless. I believe Sage Elixirs restore 60, but it's not really worth it to make them enmass during the story.

I've been using an Armamentalist for a while, but I don't really know why. I guess it's no less useless than the other classes I've tried in that 4th slot (Mage and Minstrel). At this point I'm just going to learn the Fources, in case they might be useful later, and switch him out to something else again.

It doesn't matter what order I do them? I figure I should do the easier one's first..

I ended on on Gleeba, I think it's called.

Nope, order doesn't matter but will dictate difficulty just a tiny tiny bit.

Ok question, once you have the boat where do you go?
Im at the
Lighthouse and don't know if this is where I should be. The guy at the lighthouse said I should go to the desert.

Can anyone help please?

What level should I be at in order to beat the boss located in near
Alltrades Alley?
. I've got two at 15 and 16 atm, but I'm planning to work them up to Lv.17-18 before that fight.

I'm also going to stop answering story related questions unless you're actually stuck. ;o

Go wherever you want that you haven't previously visited. They're all places you need to go.

Don't think levels matter much. Story for the most part is pretty simple with the occasional bad luck with bosses towards the end. If you can't heal party wide damage, then you may need to level to get multiheal.

Am I almost done with the story or something?
You get multiheal at level 37 priest or 24 sage. I finished the game at level 40, so you won't need to get multiheal for some time.

Good god, do you guys want one of us to come over and actually press the buttons for you, too? Then you wouldn't even have to exert yourself mentally OR physically. It's a game, play it how you want, that's the point. You are REALLY doing yourself a disservice and taking the enjoyment out of playing if you get spoonfed every little piece of what you should do and when. /rant

Back when FF3 came out, we told this dope at school he needed to be at least level 65 to beat the Floating Continent. He actually did it and said it ruined the game for him. It was pretty awesome.

Would you please? ;(

I really want someone to grind a couple more classes to 40 for me and do some grottos for me.

My bad.
Im just gonna plkay it now.
Haven't had too much problem with the bosses.
The last one I fought got close to killin one of my guys but we pulled thur.
Now Im gonna grind and then get some better armor or maybe alchemise some.

Thx a bunch
Still loving the game

That's what I figured, from looking at the alchemy map. I think it's quest 6 or so,
where you go to Angel Falls to get a "cure-all" remedy for someone in the castle
. Just seems weird to drag that quest on for a big chunk of the game.

It's just a side quest, not part of the main game.
You may even hit stores that carry it.
Just go the when you have it or remember.

I trying to find a map so I can find Geeba Castle.
Want a Driller Pillar so I can make awesome items for my Martial artist.

Update: Just sailed to Gleeba.
