Dragon's Crown for PS3 (49.99) and Vita (39.99) - 8/6/2013

It isn't strange that the shrink wrap them together, but the glue was unnecessary and a horrible choice. I mean I would have been pissed if VLR came glued to the watch.

Nope, but very close to level 20!

This game is probably the best possible implementation of drop in online co-op I can imagine.
ya, its annoying when i forget to turn off online and i try and do quests and the people mess them up. bah.

level 49 wizard right now. gonna try and knock out some more quests solo before i go back online and do some dungeon runs.

I don't know what to think yet. It's a fun game, but it's already kind of getting repetitive for me at around the 2 hour mark. I'm still figuring out some stuff so it makes it more enjoyable but once I get a complete understanding I'm afraid I am going to lose interest.

I put down Tales of Xillia today to try this game out. My intent was to play for just a bit to see if it would be worthwhile trying to track down a Vita copy as well. Eight hours of gameplay later, I guess I'm a bit addicted. Lol. Still not sure if I want to find a Vita copy though.

its a beat'em up, what did you expect?

while i wish it had a little more choice ala Guardian Heroes, its still a good game and glad i bought it and supported vanillaware.

It's getting boring lvl 89 currently prob hit 99 by tonight just started infernal hope to beat it and then play through with other characters and be done. Playing the same 9 lvls 2 time just to beat the game is getting boring

My copy came in yesterday. Loving the art, and the controls seem solid as well. I've only played through the tutorial though. I'm waiting to dig deeper into the gameplay until I can enjoy it co-op with a buddy.

Right now my biggest issue with the game is the combat.  Im playing a dwarf and I'm finding that class to be pretty boring.  I was hoping that you unlocked new moves/combos as you leveled like castle crashers but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Im only level 20 so far but it seems like most of the dawrf skills just increase the damage on his moves or add an element to his attacks.  Im probably gonna go for one of the mages as my next class because they seem to have far more depth.

This is the game some of us preordered for 29.99 last year on PS3 and amazon cancelled the orders, right? Anyone successfully get them to match the original order price?

damn man, you leveled up fast. im 60 right now, but ive been dicking around with quests and stuff.

probably gonna drag my unused guys through with my wizard to get those other play through trophies outta the way.

Been using my 74 Elf to power level my other two favorite classes (54 Wizard and a 24 Sorc atm). I still have to drag my other ones through their normal game to nearly complete the gallery. Then its just completing inferno and chaos dungeon from there.

friends just got game last night I was up from 10pm -11am today going through all dungeons over and over with my wizard. going to team up with the same people and blast through infernal. Then to take on the quests I haven't done.

This - I'm not bored at all yet, but it is a drag that more stuff isn't unlocked / only available at higher levels. Also dwarfing it up, so maybe you're right that other classes might be a little more enticing.

is leveling characters in this game easy, and fast? or have you guys being playing literally 24/7 since release date.

Trying to figure out what this game reminds me of.....I somewhat want to say the old Gladiator arcade game and am I thinking of Final Fight with the "GO".  Anyone else got games that this reminds you of...or a cross of games?

guardian heroes and dungeons and dragons beat'em up game

Dungeons and dragons golden axe after playing it its exactly.like.the.d and d game . Kind of make s it more boring doubt I will plat it because of that

Completely forgot about the  D&D arcade game.  Good call on that.  Have to get to the online portion as I have only been able to play about an hour or so.  I think I am going to have to drink to play a lot of this - I am already getting annoyed with being reminded of the current quest every time I hit the guild or exit it, etc.....This would be a good game for a "take a drink every time".........if I was still going to college....

I got my dwarf up to level 30 and am enjoying him a lot more.  I just found out you can have multiple weapons in a bag so you can just switch to another weapon after a power smash instead of waiting to pick up your weapon.  This also allows you to do two power smashes back to back for massive damage.

It's fast and easy, but the faster it goes, the more boring it gets.

im 25 hours in and level 60. could have been higher if i had a steady group of 4 to do consecutive stage runs with.
It's 100% based off how you go about it. If you beat the game at 25, hard at 50 and start leveling in infernal, then you can hit 60 in 13 or so hours. The last 12 or so levels are a serious drag though. I think 98 to 99 took 7,000,000 XP alone.

There's some depth / deeper logic to the game, but not much. Once you figure out how you WANT to play, then you pretty much do the same thing till you get sick of playing.

Gah, thanks for the tip.

Yep, same goes for any of the melee classes regarding double weapons. As for the dwarf's double smash, max adroit hands for more hilarity. ;)

Game was a ton of fun, I got a fighter in the high level 80s

Only disappointment was the game wasnt very hard, and could of used some more variety in gameplay/stages/mobs/mechanics etc

I still think it was an awesome game, and I hope they make a shit ton of cash on it, so that the (hopeful) sequel can end up being multi platform (ps4 + x1) and far deeper/more involved.

The game has tremendous potential, and was one of the best purchases ive made in a while, and I can see it having maybe 60-80~ hours of total gameplay before I get sick to death of it. Which isnt bad, especially for a game that wasnt even a full priced title.

i just hope this starts a trend in getting consoles to make interesting games that arent FPS.

great game,I definitely recomend it

And just my personal opinion, but Dwarfs seem to be the worst class in the game to play as

They have stupid mechanics (ie the throw enemy crap which is annoying) and don't really fill a good niche.

The amazon is your king for melee dps, the fighter can do good dps + is the best (and only real) tank then theres the dwarf which pretty much sucks at both.

Then all the casters fill their own niches, and the archer is just another ultimate dps.

Pretty much play anything other than the Dwarf is my opinion

Tier wise, the dwarf does out DPS the fighter. Also, I managed to get the plat earlier in a chaos chain run. It was really nice to see two sorcs and a wizard join in on the fun since our 4th was out.

Had a good day at the casinos recently and decided to splurge on this on its release date. It's surprisingly good and very addictive. I'm not as far into it as others; I'm only a Level 15 fighter. It's good to play in one-hour chunks.

The graphics are gorgeous. I doubt there is another side-scrolling beat 'em up that can match its beauty.

Tier wise, the dwarf does out DPS the fighter. It doesn't matter anyway, since they both at the bottom. Still funny to see those helicopter pilots once in awhile. Maybe, their dps always seems relatively comparable (both suck for dps anyway) but the Fighter can tank and the Dwarf cant.

Which is the big difference maker for me

And if they use their cover allies attack buff properly, they can out dps a dwarf.

Theyre definitely both at the bottom, but at least a fighter something to the table, while a dwarfs just a wasted space

I started a wizard and man is this class boring.  I feel like all Im doing is watching the melee classes kill everything while I run away to refill mana.   Maybe my weapon isn't great but the damage my wizard is doing at level 21 is really low compared to the other classes I play with online.  I dont understand why he needs to use mana to do his attacks or why his spells have limited uses if their damage isn't significantly higher then the melee characters attacks that they can just spam over and over.

my char is a wizard too. you are right around my level. do you want to game together sometime. most of the people are already level 60+, i don't understand how they level up so fast.

have multiple weapons in your bag. you want to be changing your rod depending on the persons weakness(demons ice, humans lightning, undead fire, etc..). the wizard is a powerhouse. my meteor swarm does 125K damage.

i don't understand how they level up so fast.
dungeon runs with trailblazer prayer(1.5x xp). biggest xp run ive had is 15 million.

I made a video explaining this, but...

Higher difficulty = Higher return on your score. For instance, infernal gives 200% bonus.

Bonus score prayers (beating infernal gives you "trailblazer" and that is worth 50% extra).

Don't stop an adventure till you have nothing left, since you can get up to 200% score bonus.

Some weapons have a chance of dropping coins and getting the coin to score skills is easy XP.

DSB ruins give you double score bonus.

Food gives you additional score and you can get 6%+ from a single meal.

Items in the background can give you a lot of score if you get lucky.

etc

If you do all this stuff, then you can get millions of XP in an hour or two.

Sure. My PSN is SInfulfate. I have it for Vita though.

Alright. I've noticed my weapons doing less damage on certain enemies but I've been using the extra space in my bag for spells. I just realized there is a skill to get more bag size so I'll be upgrading that asap. I wish there was a easy way to respec skills. I've wasted too many points on that summon golem spell which doesn't seem useful especially online where all the players just rush in and destroy the wooden boxes.

golem is useless. slow plus blaze on slow/stationary bosses absolutely destroys. i use slow, blaze, storm and thunderbolt. 2 rods, usually fire and lightning since lightning will still do decent damage to enemies with cold weakness. youll get a respec potion in the labyrinth of chaos.

for skill points, i did mostly concentration, more mp, slow, blaze, storm, thunderstorm, nutrionist, more bag space, androit hands, levitation and more hp.

yeah, that is similar to my build. lol
are you still playing dragons crown? or you sold your game like the others?

To level up fast means getting to inferno as soon as possible or doing long chain runs (at least 9+). Buying those prayers that increase round scores help too. It's really not that difficult to level up. I have 3 characters at max before I stopped after the platinum (Elf, Wizard, and Sorc). Now, I just play with friends when they ask me. Anyway, the wizard has a great endgame where he starts hitting his stride around level 45+. During the times I did play with randoms, I did not meet one elf that could keep up with me DPS wise on both mobs and bosses. Amazons could only beat me if they used a Str potion so he is pretty devastating when played correctly.  ;)

Your core skills for maxing out are concentrate (fast recharge), spirit up (max hp), levitation (+50% dmg boost to all air attacks), slow (duh), blaze (main boss killer), and fire ward (+50% fire damage to all enemies inside the ward & be able to cast fire on water). Casting slow > fire ward > blaze along with UP + O is devastating. Of course, you can make it more ridiculous with a fire rod by jumping and spamming fireballs via evade cancelling. Add a strength potion and call it a day.

Other skills to have for sure are adroit hands to cast everything in quick succession, deep pockets (for spells and 2 rods), and evade. Now, evade is used to keep you in the air longer with levitate (evade cancelling) as well as to give the longest i-frames in the game when holding R1 on the ground.

The rest you can put into whatever you want. I choose extinction to clear out elite level mobs in one shot in Chaos lab. That spell can hit multiple enemies too and save a lot of time, but it is slow. It's best used with a sorc who has gravity. There are also those that put some into HP, but only put enough so that food gets you to 999HP otherwise it's a waste. Thunderstorm spell is useless because of thunderod's jump + O lightning storm attack. Same effect as the spell but with multiple casts and no skill points wasted. Storm is another viable option to clearing out mobs and doing mediocre damage to fire-resistant bosses. It's okay to use when there are a lot of wizards/demon imps spamming fireballs since pillars deflect.

Golem is useless outside of normal mode. If you have any skill points left over, one point in nutritionist is more than enough. Meteor swarm is too slow, but so worth it with coordination (with at least one sorc and one fighter). Sorc casts protection, fighter with 100% dmg increase to allies when shielding, strength potion for Wizard, and just laugh as most inferno bosses' life bars take about a 70% hit right off the bat. If no sorc, then use stalwart potions to cast uninterrupted if you decide to take meteor. Otherwise, blaze does a better job.

i had the most fun, during the cooking part.lol
it seems like many other players i have played with in random games rarely participated in it. joining random games, sometimes end up being crapshot, i was having a bit of difficult of finding games last night. the previous i was connecting to games with no problem.

Any tips on beating the final boss as a wizard solo? I can get him down about 3/4s health but once he summons that blue skeleton Im done.  The blue skeleton just sits back with the crossbow shooting me while I try to refill my mana and when I try killing him I end of dying by the boss's magic attacks. I have no points in evasion so avoiding the boss's magic attacks seems almost impossible.  I tried using 3 other AI to help me but they just make the boss that much harder since he has more health and the AI in this game is terrible.

Use an ice rod if your not doing so. Since you have no points in invasion, your going to have to destroy the dragon's attacks to prevent them from manifesting. The green twin Cyclone attack will form green orbs on both ends of the plain. Attack one of them to clear one whole "level" for yourself. Left one covers the bottom and right one covers the top iirc. For it's triple fire-rain (the long flames on the left, center, and right.) Up + O ground attacks can destroy the middle without having to move at all. You can also deflect it's green projectiles that it fires in the background to save your rock cover and deal more damage to it.

Lastly, your going to have to kill the skeleton wielding the crossbow when he comes out. You can either eliminate them all or you can carry the crossbow yourself to the very top of the rock cover before ditching it. Thus, the rest of the skeletons will be obsessed with getting the crossbow rather than attacking.

Thanks for the suggestions but I managed to beat him before you posted this. Took me like 50 tries but I finally got him. I figured out my problem was that I only had 2 spells, slow and meteor, which aren't really helpful on the final boss. I just did some quests to get some more skill points and got more spells to help improve my damage.
