how do you know?
I don't know, though the issues that came about from the Paper Mario rebate were from the fact that EB's intention was to sell the game at $49.99 with a $20 GV for it, netting the buyer the game for $29.99.
Since Paper Mario hit down to $19.99 when it did, it made the game "free", which I'm sure wasn't the intention on their wish to put out the $20 GV rebate. It may have also been an uncoordinated price drop, since I can't see EB planning on selling a game for $20 with a $20 GV rebate on it, when it's a top-tier Nintendo-branded title. The other sales they ran like this, in-store, for Hot Shots Golf Fore and Syphon Filter: The Omega Straiin, weren't an issue.
The Syphon Filter $20 GV rebate when purchased online for $10 was a previous situation, which worked out OK for me and I had my $20 show up, though others weren't so lucky at first. They've also done "free" after GV rebate games in the past, such as Alias, plus ones that netted more than the purchase price back, such as Max Payne 2.
Since they have a set price in the ad coming up, and theoretically online on Friday, unless they deviate from those prices online or in-store, I can't see those being a problem. If they do, they make their own mess to clean up, just like the one they're still cleaning up with Paper Mario. If they stick to their plan, there shouldn't be an issue, for us or for them.
Do I know that for 100% certainty? No, of course not, though who does know anything with 100% certainty?
