Eternal Sonata - Gen. Discussion + Info
Man I can't decide, should I sell my faceplate and get 30 dollars or keep it in my collection for a long time.
Ask yourself if you would still want your faceplate when you are playing the Xbox 720 or whatever the heck replaces your current system :p

Then again, is $30 really that important to you? Actually I don't need the money, but I don't feel like taking mine out of the bubblewrap either. Ugh.
Man I can't decide, should I sell my faceplate and get 30 dollars or keep it in my collection for a long time.
I am sort of in the same boat. I was going to sell it no doubt, but now I just don't know.

Anyways, what faceplate did everyone get?

I got Chopin.

I got Chopin as well. Ultimately I won't want it when the Xbox 720 is out and all but I am also really straped more money and there are a bunch of good games coming out here pretty quickly. But I was also thinking, I see this game getting rare quick so having a faceplate might be worth even more in a year or so.
I picked the Polka one!
so did I, though my only choices were polka or beat. I still probably wouldn't have chose chopin if it was there though, he just looks like a douche to me.

I was thinking the same thing. Should I sit on this for a while then sell it in a year? Hmm.

Yeah well right now I am just seeing what offers I get from fellow CAGs and if I feel I really need the cash I will take it. If not though I will hold for a long time.

Zerotype, I checked the bubblewrap and all over my car and no black piece to be found. I might send an e-mail to Bandai Namco and see if they can just send me the black piece. Seems like most of the faceplates are fine..
I got my faceplate too, and no the black sensor piece isn't missing. You got a broken one T.T
Thanks. I checked with Gamestop and unfortunately the only other faceplate they had to swap with me was the one with Salsa and March so I opted to keep the broken Polka one. :(

Luckily, when I went to pick up my game on Tuesday they gave me another faceplate of Beat and let me keep the Polka one too.

Loving the game the so far. It's prompted me to put Bioshock and Blue Dragon on hold for a while. n_n

Spoiler? I don't know (Chopin cutscenes)...
Wish they added VO to the cutscenes about the circumstances of how Chopin came up with some of his scores. Reading white text overlapping a white building = X_X. This is also why I left the English dubbing on. I can't really stand reading the text some of the time.

Chopin has kinda gotten cooler as the game goes on. Also I mean he is friggin Chopin.

Also holy cow the cutscenes are long, that one at the end of Chapter 1 seemed like it took forever(I like them though).

I went into a different gamestop by work today to pick up the messanger kit and started talking about eternal sonata with the guy working there, he ended up giving me a faceplate for free, he said no one preordered it at his store so he still had all five. I picked Allegretto this time.

Yeah I am going to my GS friday and see if I can snag another one.

Yeah, the cutscenes are kinda long, but too pretty to just skip, maybe if I do a second runthrough I'll skip them.

I am almost positive I will skip them on my second playthrough. Unless I know it is a cool cutscene.

The picture montages about Chopin are kind of interesting because I knew virtually nothing about the guy but the actual game cutscenes are long, boring, and for the most part fucking repetitive. Is there some law that states a character must re-state all questions in a JRPG?

Otherwise the game is good so far. Me likes the battle system.

So, I got my preordered copy of eternal sonata in a few days back along with a Chopin faceplate. Which...if someone wants that PM me, thats the one i didn't like cause it looks like a christmas tree in the background.

Anyways, my game tends to freeze during cutscenes or transitions. There are no error messages and trying to turn the 360 off or go to the dashboard via controller doesn't work. I actually have to get off my butt and manually turn it off each time. And everytime this happens i loose all the info i haven't saved yet.

So, I put in Blue Dragon and played for about an hour, did the same with Fable: Lost Chapters. Both are running fine. No freeze issues.

I also moved my 360 to on top of the entertainment center where there is good ventilation, and yet it still froze. Is this a common problem? Could the game be defective or is it my 360?

I'm new to the 360 so any of you who know something about this it'd be cool if you could give me some advice. I dunno if I should take back the game or not, or possibly the 360. The 360 is still within the amount of days to take it back to the store and get a replacement.

I was having a problem where it freezes after the Namco Bandai logo, right when the logo fades to white it just freezes there and I will have to restart the system. I am debateing going back and getting another copy.

Yeah, Mine did that too once. It also does it during cutscenes sometimes. I haven't been able to get very far because of it. It is quite annoying. If anyone else is having this problem or has a solution it would be helpful to know!

Now that it's out, what's the general opinion of Eternal Sonata? My 360 is being repaired, but when it comes back I'm definatly gonna pick this up. I really liked the demo. Also I'm still playing Persona 3, so I'm waiting till I beat that, then move on to Eternal Sonata.

I'm really enjoying it so far. I love the battle system, the game looks great, the story is fairly interesting, the music is awesome, and it has the option for Japanese voices. Can't go wrong!

I have also really enjoyed the game, the battle system feels very tactical and the story is pretty good. It also gives a good Music Appreciation lesson.

11 hours in and I'm still loving it. But the cutscenes are starting to get more fruity and inane than ever;
Have fun watching the onslaught of cutscenes after you get the simile water

Edit: Regarding the level with that dream ship you see in the trailers
The game just went from brutally easy to brutally hard QQ Depending on how well you spread XP amongst ALL your party members, you will get your ass kicked in this area. Especially in the last fight (enemy has one hit kill moves and revives)

Edit 2: Cheapest boss fight ever (not really, but it pissed me off):
Took down the boss and a henchie during a battle, the last enemy left was low on health, and I sitll had 2 party members alive with roughyl 75% health but no more items. The near-dead henchie REVIVES THE BOSS, the boss the proceeds to smack one of my characters retarded, killing it. Then gets another turn (...) and revives the last downed henchie, and I die... WHAT THE HELL?!

So after I stopped sobbing over not getting my copy of Halo 3 today, I decided to finish Eternal Sonata.

Yes, the ending is about 45 minutes long, give or take (including credits, which were actually split up into 2 lists shown at different times of the ending).

The biggest beef I had with the ending was the fact that half of the Japanese dialogue didn't even have subtitles associated with them... I haven't tried watching the ending in English yet (you get prompted to save near the end so you can always watch the ending as long as you don't overwrite that spot). Seems smack of lazy translation to me.

Cool. Total playtime?

24:01:08. I tried to explore every area I could except for some of the parts later in the game.

That's pretty bad. So basically I should go through the game in English?

I haven't watched the ending in English, so I can't say whether it's fixed with that audio track or not. (ie: if the parts that didn't have english subtitles also don't have english dubs)

At first I thought the parts without English subtitles were insignificant, but when the length of Japanese dialogue without those subtitles added up to several or a dozen minutes, I got kind of worried.

I just realized that each saved game saves their own option settings, so I may not be able to watch the ending again in English using the options menu on the title screen. So if you want to get a chance to watch the ending with both audio tracks, do yourself a favour and leave one save file before you finish the game (you will know) and don't overwrite it.

The cool thing is there's an added quest that's significant to the story when you play it through a second time. But I only got 120 gamerscore through my first playthrough :\

So this games only 24 hours long? That's pretty short.
So this games only 24 hours long? That's pretty short.
It actually took me a bit longer than that due to having to replay the boss battle in Chapter 4 over and over. But yeah, I can see 24 hours being average if you explore most, but not all, of the areas and talk to every NPC at least twice.

I liked the game up until like the last 2 hours of the game or so. Everything was going along fine and then things just went to hell in a hand basket. It was very weak on explaining what was going on and felt jumpy to the point where most people would probably be confused. The story also felt very straight forward and half done which was only lengthy due to the large amount of cutscenes.

I also agree that the ending in japanese voice overs sucks due to lack of subtitles. If you have no understanding of japanese, then you better switch to english voices when you get the item
Heroic/Heavens Mirror or whatever the hell it's called.

Other than that, the game was fun. I'll probably play through a second time because I felt the game was too easy and I want to try it when enemies have 2x health and 1.5x attack/defense.

Ok, I finally bought into the review scores and picked this game up to counter my Halo 3 obsession. I originally didn't like the battle system, but from what I've read it's complex yet fun - what are people's feelings for somebody who just picked this up?

can you skip through the cutscenes without missing important info like where to go next?
So this games only 24 hours long? That's pretty short.
It's actually nice to play through an RPG to completion. With my schedule the way it is nowadays, I don't have the time for the 80 hour titles (Persona 3 how I love/hate thee). I welcome shorter titles in my favorite of genres.

I gotta agree with you about Persona 3. It's taking me forever to beat, but alteast I know I got my money's worth. Maybe it'll be nice to play a game which isn't so time consuming.

So far I've haven't heard anything too bad about the game, and seeing the commercials on TV are just adding to the excitment.

I know it's the wrong thread, but I was curious if any of you knew how long Blue Dragon is?
So this games only 24 hours long? That's pretty short.
I'm in the final dungeon now with about 49 hours clocked. About 40 of those are actual gameplay since I did leave the game paused for a while at times. I explored everything without using a guide (I only referenced to make sure I didn't miss score pieces) and talked to every NPC twice, sometimes four times since they change what they say when you finish parts of the story.

You get your money's worth and the game is fun enough to play through again for the rest of the achievements.

I do that too, leave the game paused. After a few hours I like to take a break, but prefer just to pause it rather than save and turn it off. But I'm not an achievement whore, and very rarely do I play an RPG for a second time.

you all play through RPG's pretty fast. I'm on chapter 3 with about 12 hours. I don't know if that's good or bad. I didn't really explore until I got to the town
Claves sucks, falsetto is awesome
