Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info
The code is inside the case on a little sleeve. It's not e-mailed.
Thanks for the info. Had no idea.

Off to eBay it goes...thanks!

EDIT: It's on eBay now...keeping my fingers crossed for at least $20.
Yeah I was shocked to see them going for so much and put mine on there immediately. Sold in just a few hours.

Is the plot as strong as FO3 plot? I heard some rumblings of a poorer story. Dont that it matter I have to get this no matter what.

I'm not too surprised about this anymore considering the Mass Effect 2 DLC that came with the CE was going for upwards of $60. Practically paid for the game itself.

Oh, hell yes it did. I got like $40 or $50 for the Collector rifle and armor. I was floored. I definitely thought I was gonna end up getting screwed over, but nope, they guy left positive feedback, and the CE basically was had for free, especially after I sold the Inferno armor for like $10.

If I can get $15 for this stuff, which I don't want anyway, sweet.

Quick question about Alpha Protocol. Did it see any post-launch support in terms of patches?

And a question about patches in general. Do developers decide if they want to patch a game or is it up to the publisher to give them the go ahead?

I think it depends on the resources that they give the developer. For Fallout New Vegas for example, they are expecting to expand it with DLC like with Fo3, and if they don't fix the bugs that a ton of people are complaining about on day one, the DLC won't sell well. Not to mention the fanbase and budget that this series has as opposed to Alpha Protocol.
Quick question about Alpha Protocol. Did it see any post-launch support in terms of patches?
Nope.

Fallout is a different story though, according to Kotaku they're already planning to release a patch.

Indeed. Alpha Protocol was a massive bust, both critically and financially. So, they cut their losses and moved along. If you bought the game, oh well, that's your problem, in their opinion.

I was mainly just wondering if Bethesda was pushing Obsidian to support the game or if Obsidian realizes that they should considering the series they have on their hands. I don't recall seeing much support for Kotor 2 besides a few patches that updated the quality of the music, but then again Neverwinter Nights 2 is a different story.

Not to go off topic, but KOTOR2 was such a disappoint, and you can blame Lucas Arts for that. They pushed really hard on Obsidian for a holiday release, and what we got was an incomplete game, which was made even more frustrating by the fact that the game was actually damn good.
Looks like I got the Tribal code in my game. I wonder if it's different in each copy or all the same.
Gamestop = Classic Pack
Amazon = Tribal Pack
Best Buy = Mercenary

That's about it.
No glitches yet, been playing for 5 hours.

Question about weapon upgrades...if a gun breaks, you can just apply the upgrade to a new weapon, right?

Also, all Ive found is the scope for the 9mm at the general store. Where are some more upgrades?
?
Well I put up a link where to find it by google price search but I actually checked the links and all say out of stock.. and to think.. I picked The Collector's Edition for the PS3 for lol $56.99 + Collector's Edition Hardback Guide $20.99 - $20 Amazon gaming credit = one sweet ass deal! Both for $57.98 Shipped release day for free!
Wow, great deal...
Next time I will be pre-ordering through Amazon, I can't believe that right now is out of stock in the whole Internet.

Amazon, Best Buy, Sears, Kmart, CD Universe... only eBay and Amazon sellers have copies for more than $150...

Damn!!
What do you think guys? How long should I wait to be able to grab this game for less than $75 bucks??

I got $25 for my GS code on Ebay. I bought the game using half the credit from a "broken" PS3 I bought froma guy at work for $20. Booted to the restore settings screen and SCORE!!! :D

I sell darn near every "extras" code on eBay, people eat this shit up! $25 for some shitty stuff you won't use after a couple hours....
I hear Obsidian is going to release "a series of patches" in the near future. Nice.
You didn't see the link earlier in the thread? Its been confirmed, and it is indeed nice.

P.S. I wonder if this Fallout will hold its value like FO3 did? That game was still 30 bucks months and months and months after it came out.

Never mind, read on Gaf that if you wait a few days, Chet will have more upgrades.

So far the game is pretty easy. I'm playing it smart, picking up everything and selling it. I think I have like 1,200 caps, 25 stim packs and plenty of ammo.

So I ran into a game freezing glitch earlier and before that I had a glitch that randomly kept shooting my weapons and not allowing me to put them away. I really do love this game, but the patch needs to happen real soon!

What difficulty are you playing on? Normal isn't exactly a cakewalk. There are quite a few beasts early on in the game that get really pissed off when you shoot them. So much so that you're pretty much going to die from their attacks unless you have some major firepower.

Has anybody found storage solutions for early in the game, before you own a place of your own? I read that Victor's shack is good, because he never actually goes in there. You can also sleep there.

Not really, but I haven't found much worth keeping either. Probably best early on to only pick up and carry the higher value stuff, build, repair and maintain to consolidate, then sell whatever you don't immediately need to build up your caps.
Are there any collectibles in this game like the bobble heads from Fo3?
Snowglobes. They don't actually do anything, though. I think you can sell them, though, for significant amount of caps.

There are other collectibles in the game (beside snow globes):

Caravan cards and star bottle caps are a couple, and there are "random items" found in hollowed-out rocks.

For anybody that just started this, Do the hardcore mode on normal. It's quite fun actually and I like it a lot. Makes it a lot more realistic and you get that cheevo out of the way as well lol.

Yes.

In Goodsprings, behind the Saloon and Chet's place is an abandoned trailer. It's got two metal boxes along with a bed inside. Sleep/store things there.

Normal. Giant Rad Scorpions are definitely a pain, but I know I can't take them on too well, so I just run.

6 hours in, and I finally hit my first major glitch. Prior to this, I just ran into the usual slowdowns and minor graphical glitches. I was attacking a coyote that was stuck in a mountain side, and as I did, it freed the coyote, and I got stuck.

Heh. Shoot the stinger off and they're pretty much worthless.

The Cazador's kicked my ass early on. I still can't go to the north part of the map yet.

So that Smiles/Cheyenne chick ran off a cliff and died, thus rendering that set of quests unobtainable. Going to wait for a patch to see if it resets her/fixes things before I continue playing I think. Otherwise fun game, exactly like Fallout 3 which is good.

Is it really worth $60 for being exactly like Fallout 3 though?

In any case, a quest character falling off a cliff.

I'm skeptical myself as I've been lurking this thread. I enjoyed FO3 but I'm not really sure on this one, I'm probably going to 'borrow' a copy of New Vegas for the PC.

Considering FO3 was one of the best games ever made, I would say yes. If you liked FO3, you will like this game. It's more of the same, and that isn't a bad thing.

I just had a main quest character die all the sudden. I was near Lone Wolf Radio, walking down the cliffs, when I had a notice that Sgt. McGhee had died. I was no where near him...

I dont think I've had issues like that with FO3, the one biggest glitch I had was where you get the slavers to go attack the republic of dave, they got stuck on a car and were running in place for like 3 game days.

I had to body push them out of the way it was so annoying. I'll probably get around to trying this pretty soon.

I wouldn't mind "borrowing" a copy, hahaha.

That happened occasionally on FO3. Suddenly some guy just dies you weren't even around.

So is the game engine just hard to work with? Why does FO3 and New Vegas have these type of problems? Funny thing is I accepted them as part of the game 4 seconds into FO3 so I never worried about it.

Well if you have a PC that can run it and you aren't "morally above" it shoot me a PM.

I'm sure I will get the hang of it, but after one game of Caravan, it's something I feel I want to avoid. Too bad there are achievements tied to it...

EDIT: Nevermind. I've kind of figured it out, and I read up on a pretty cheap tactic to use. Don't know if the players get better, but Ringo is easy to beat if you just stack your deck with 6's, 10's, and Kings.

Morally like not wanting to steal?

Only problem 8 hours into the game was that it froze on me once, and I had to restart the game. Luckily, I save the game quite often, so it wasn't a really big deal for me. I'm really enjoying the game so far.

I still haven't run into anything game-breaking, but I have encountered a lot (at least a dozen) enemies that had gotten stuck in the game world somehow, mostly in the floor.
