Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

The GS review is more or less spot on. I'm running into a bunch of annoying glitches now including one that forced my character to shoot only at random and never inside of V.A.T.S. which required a system restart to fix because I wasn't in control. What's worse is the glitch spanned ALL of my save states. FO3 wasn't perfect but it felt a hell of a lot more stable for me from jump with a rare glitch here or there that rarely required a reloaded save state and NEVER a system restart. It was a hell of a lot more fun to play as well.

I'm trying to give New Vegas a chance and though I am enjoying myself between this and Alpha Protocol I'm staying as far away from Obsidian releases as humanly possible. I can't support this type of amateur bullshit. They honestly need to get their act together because in terms of releases this year has been pretty damn mediocre for me and this does nothing more than solidify it.

You've got to be kidding me...

I had no armor, so I threw on some Powder Gangers clothes that I had on. Headed over to Primm where I was well liked. Went in to start a quest and everyone turned on me. I took my clothes off, and they still attack. I ran away, and they chase. I can't warp because there are enemies nearby.

Keep in mind, these are main storyline characters and if I kill them, I am now fucked.

Sgt McGhee somehow died again...

fuck, man. If people start attacking you when you have faction-specific clothing on, I'm just going to run around naked until I start getting shot at.

Hey can anyone tell me how to get to the back of the
Helios One
building ? I am trying to find some kinda of
scientist/engineer to talk about solar panels ?

I dont know if I actually needed the spoilers but I did it just in case.

Has anyone did the quest BOOTED? Its about freeing some gunpowder gang guys from legion. I killed all the legion and when I went to go free them by the untie option. They just sit their not doing anything.

The game page isn't showing up at all for New Vegas, but the score is showing up in the search results. 7.5

Looks like most if not all the game pages aren't showing up, gamespot issues.

Can't link to the review from gamerankings.com, either. Dude, if they change their review based on pressure from either Bethesda or Obsidian, that would be pretty shitty.

There should be re-reviews once the game starts getting patched.

I don't get the Powder Gangers. I was just walking around and a group started shooting me for no reason. I kill them, my rep lowers. I walk around and run into more, they just look at me. I eventually run across more who shoot me, again for no reason (unless it's armor, but i'm wearing generic armor).. I kill them too, they all hate me. I go to the compound they run to convince the guy to come and be the sheriff of Primm, they attack me. I had to kill everyone. What the fuck? Got the guy out safely, though.

Am I doing something wrong/not paying attention to something that would cause them to hate me? I don't understand what I did wrong but I'm not re-starting the game.

also, fuck Obsidian. I thought that F:NV would be tested to hell and back. I don't know if a patch can fix everything. Glad I only got this for $20 at K-Mart.. I hate to say that because FO3 was one of my favorite games of all time.

I have had them randomly attack me, even to the point where I am "Vilified" by them. For that mission with the NCR Compound, I
ended up going in solo, being "friendly" to them, doing their minor tasks, then joining up with the NCR to betray them. Now that the base is captured by the NCR again, I still can't loot anything from there without a loss of karma. Had I known there was little to no reward for that, I would have just let them rot.

Anyone know if "Easy Pete" is an important NPC later on?
Just finished the "Run, Goodspring, Run" mission and he has vanished (guessing he got vaporized).
Hasn't show up after waiting a few days in game.

I don't get the Powder Gangers...
Ditto, at the beginning I'm just minding my own business when they start attacking. Now I just play dress up and hack them with my Machete.

Finding it kinda stupid that stealing from their explosive crates hurts my karma, even though they hate my guts.

The Powder Gangers are the base equivalent of random FO3 raiders because they are escaped convicts. They'll almost always attack you unprovoked because they assume you're an easy score so I always return the favor unless helping them earns me caps or xp which will affect your rep with them. What I won't be doing however is sucking enough PG dick to get on their good side. You attack me your ass is mine from now on until I receive an apology.

As for Karma this game is at least ten times worse than FO3 in terms of giving away copious amounts of it for doing next to nothing. I swear I improved mine from neutral to very good by just killing feral ghouls at one point. Pretty retarded considering I actually wanted to stay neutral for as long as possible.

If interested I can confirm Novac has a motel where you can rent out a room and store anything you like until you gain access to a real home. I'd also urge you guys to save frequently during the That Lucky Old Sun quest. Attacking hostile Guard Dogs will make you hostile to NCR soldiers (use a Stealth Boy kthx) and I fell through the world entering a nearby tower where I lost a companion for GOOD. I had to reload.

...God I fucking hate Obsidian.

That's because wearing the outfits disguises you as one of them, so you won't be shot at by the gang themselves but you have to be careful about where you wear the outfits as certain towns might think you're an enemy. I don't see anything wrong with this, I think its actually pretty cool, that they took it this far.

As for my Tribal Pack that I put on eBay...it sold today for $18.50. :D

They should have just scrapped the karma system. The reputation system is more important and karma doesn't play a big role, but it still doesn't make any sense. The game doesn't do a good job of recognizing when something is stealing and when it is not.

I got postive karma from shooting a fleeing Powder ganger who was in his underwear in the back of the head while he was cowering in fear.

Getting to doctor is just a matter of following the map (use the door to the right of the main desk and follow that to the stairs where there should be another metal door directly across from you), but getting outside is a whole other story. The opening is behind the Apocalypse doctor in his room in the left side corner. It isn't visible by any length of the imagination if you don't venture further than talking to him. I got lost as well until I checked the map and doubled back. Make sure you save before moving onto the tower and the second terminal is guarded by hostile dogs so use a stealth boy to sneak past them. Attacking them will turn every soldier hostile.

Also, I haven't done it, but I believe this game is like Fallout 3, where you can skip parts of the main quest. So if you mess up or some character gets killed off you can probably pick up the trail later. I mean it's not that hard to figure out how to track down who you are looking for.

I guess it's a gamble though to assume that the main questline is truly not breakable.
How did you get it for 20 bucks at kmart?
Look at the K-Mart thread in the deals forum. I bought Enslaved and got a $25 gaming coupon and the Fallout coaster set ($5) and got the $15 gaming coupon with that.. $25 + $15 = $40 off of New Vegas.

The gaming coupons are great, you just have to buy one game at full price and the rest is savings from there.. I bought Halo Reach at full price and got a $25 gc, used that towards the move bundle and got a $25 gc for that, picked up an extra move controller and got a $10 gc, used the $25 and $10 gc towards Enslaved and got that for $25 or so.. then the Enslaved coupon and Fallout coaster coupon for New Vegas.

WTF?

I go to sleep somewhere in the wasteland. I wake up and suddenly Tomas is right on top of me, telling me how some "bitch attacked him." What in the fuck?

About that room in Novac...

If you help Boone find out who was responsible for his missing wife, you can get that room permanently.

How can I get on the NCR's good side ? !
UGH they told me I had 3 days to get on there good side or I was going to be killed....so 3 days later this bitch shows up with a posse and tries to kill me, what do i do ?

Please someone help me.

Sweet. I was planning on looking into that after I'd ran Manny's errand. The place is a dump though so the split second I buy or earn a better place I'm relocating there asap.

Have you done any quests in Primm yet? I was able to get on the NCR's "good" side by recapturing the NCRCF for them.

It's useful for raiding the REPCONN site...tons of high value components such as conductors, sensor modules, and fission batteries there, but the weight adds up quickly.

Oh jeez...I just started act 2 and,
they gave us so many options. Kill Mr. House, join caesar's legion, ally with the BOS, ally with the NCR, all the random people on the strip...what to do? I'm wondering if I should kill house and take the strip for myself. Wonder how that would play out...

I just realized that there's an achievement from beating the game by playing on hardcore from the very beginning. I think I'm going to start a new game. I've only played for about 2hrs anyways.

I am now getting an error message on one of my saves that won't allow the save to open and the next nearest one freezes every time I try and load it! This game is really starting to piss me off because I can't continue my progress without some glitch ruining the entire experience for me. I am about to say shaq-fu this game and return it.

If my game ever blocks me from loading up my own save, it will be promptly sold and I will start a new game on Fallout 3 and play that for another 100 hours. The only games that have given me corrupt saves are Capcom games (RE5 and SFIV.. though RE5's was weird, it wouldn't let me load it but it let my roommate load to where we were.. he was playing as Shiva and I was Leon. He had all of his weapons when his save loaded, but I had nothing - not even a knife. Leon just stood around bare handed).

Yah, hopefully it doesn't take a month to sift through Microsoft before the patch comes out. I've been seeing some disgusting shit. Obsidian and Bethesda must be really embarrassed.

Alright this patch needs to happen tomorrow! I just lost over 3 hours of progress because of this stupid glitch that corrupts my saves and now I am really pissed.

Here is the error I keep getting.

"This save game relies on downloadable content that is no longer available. Some objects may be no longer available. Continue loading?"

I then proceed to click "Yes" and get the following message.

"The storage device you selected is no longer available. Load canceled."

WTF!?!??! !>_

Wow...all of these recent comments have me worried. I think I'm debating on shelving it until a patch comes out, and playing something else in the meantime.

I just read about that glitch and some think it's tied to the space suit.

I just picked up the save suit myself and Im shitting bricks.

I know people don't have a lot of faith in Obsidian, but keep in mind that unlike the abortion known as Alpha Protocol, Sega is not the one calling the ultimate shots. Bethesda is, and the Fallout franchise has become huge for them. Hopefully, this crap will be resolved soon and, perhaps, a little freebie will thrown out as a peace offering.

Probably the best idea. I haven't experienced this many issues with a game in a very long time. I'm doing the same thing now for the third time in a row and if these problems happen yet again I will be either returning or shelving this until the patch is released.

fuck, me too. Hope this is wrong!

Not sure why everyone's having so many issues. I've played with zero issues at all so far on my 360, about 24 hours ingame played so far and still running just fine.

fuck it. I put mine on Goozex. I have a plethora of points, so I'll just pick it up in a month or so, once the issues are resolved (and I have played a couple other games in my backlog). My gaming time is limited and very valuable to me, so I cringe at the thought of losing progress in a game of this magnitude.

I said this earlier and the difficulty doesn't effect it either. I like how it adds to the realism really. Not really that much harder. Just make sure to eat, sleep and drink.
fuck, me too. Hope this is wrong!
I finished the mission just fine. Poking around it seems more of a problem with come fly with me than the space suit.

Very true. I only hold Bethesda partially responsible for trusting in Obsidian in the first place. I originally gave Ob the benefit of the doubt as much of the supposed lone dev's remarks on AP were flawlessly reflected during game play. I held hope NV would be immaculate by comparison but oh my goodness have they proven me wrong. I personally won't be waiting for a third strike before I write them off for now because my hard earned cash is at stake here.

The only silver lining out of this shit filled cloud is the added anticipation for Fallout 4 provided Bethesda is at the helm.
Haven't had an issue yet. Sucks to hear so many are having problems. Great game though.
Same here. Well, as I mentioned earlier, minor stuff, mostly consisting of me or enemies falling through the game world. It only happened to my character once, though. Have encountered dozens of enemies that did it, unfortunately, far more than in Fallout 3, and that was in over a hundred hours of game play. I have also experienced some freezing when I tried to fast travel, and it kept happening even after reloading, so I had to fast travel somewhere close and then walk. Next time I tried to fast travel there, though, everything was fine.

I have put in about 13 hours of game play so far, but I have barely touched the main quest. Like I did in FO3, I am going all over the map, trying to discover as many places as possible (so traveling will be easier later), leveling up, and gathering as much shit as possible. Got this game brings out the OCD in me.
WTF?

That just happened to me. What's that all about?

Is it just because I have it set on easy, or do enemies run away from you? I'll have a radscorpion chasing me and I'll be walking backwards shooting it, and it'll just be like "yep, fuck this", spin around and walk away. I chase it, fire a couple shots, and it's like "HEY! Why are you shooting me!?" and come after me again.

Also, I was on my way to Nipton and in the middle of the wasteland.. did a quick 360 spin - nothing around. Tapped RB in all directions - no enemies. All of the sudden, I'm getting attacked by a golden hunter gecko.. then two.. four.. here comes three more.. and I die.

Seriously, this is starting to seem less and less like a Fallout game and more and more like a fan's attempt at making a Fallout game. It's like.. someone found a way to extract all the textures, called a few of their friends over after a couple of beers to record voiceovers, shuffled it all around and sent it to press. That's exactly what it feels like. Some of the new weapons and modifications are alright, but half of the items laying around are from the other Fallout game.. it just feels like I've played this before.

It feels like a fan service, and a bad one at that. Obsidian, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope they read this. You need to fix this stuff and fast. I realize that I'm just starting out (apparently I've already put 8 hours into it?!), but I can't get into it. I'm giving it through the weekend. If I can't get into it, it's gone.

Just bought this but scared to open it. Might return it if a patch doesnt happen soon enough.

Sigh, really looking forward to this game.
