Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

aaaand another careless design flaw. Jumped into a trailer in Nipton to do some exploring. Nothing in there.. and I can't get out of the trailer. Awesome. Reload... again!

:bomb:

I chose the perk where you run into weird stuff in the wasteland and ran into a funny easter egg.. I forwarded it to Kotaku.. we'll see if they post it. If they don't, I'll post what it was tomorrow.

actually, I don't care - it was the corpses/skeletons of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru

Things that have been happening to me:

Huge slowdown the longer I play, restarts usually fix it.

Sometimes my companions disappear for no reason, the only way to fix this apparently is to "Wait" for four days straight, at which point your companions leave you and return to their original spots.

The game's frozen my Xbox roughly 8 times now, usually while loading a new screen, sometimes just randomly when I'm experiencing slowdown and it's as if my box ran out of memory and crashes.

It's possible to get stuck between rocks if you're traversing the mountains, and sometimes slopes seem unreasonable to walk up, requiring lots of snaking to get up. If you get stuck in the rocks, you can fast travel, but if an enemy is nearby and you can't kill it ... reload.

Overall, aside from the technical issues, I've probably put in close to 35 hours these last few days, and the only reason I'm even away from it is because the game froze again and I'm waiting for my box to cool down :)

And yet ANOTHER glitch - I
killed Boxcar
and it said that I failed this mission.. what!? I hadn't even met the people that give me that mission yet!

I'm about 14 hours in, level 8ish, and still no major issues to report. I really wonder what's causing the disparity between mostly fine and disastrous.

...Luck.

Posted before around 8:30pm that I had Zero issues so far, and it's now 2am and been playing ever since, again with Zero problems. No messed up enemies, no falling through the world, no framerate slowdown, and fast load times. Maybe it's because I have the game installed to the HD, but it seems like there's two different versions out there. One that works and one that doesn't.

Loving this game so far....

Did run into something just a little while ago - went to lockpick a safe, and the screen was obscured by the graphic for accessing a computer terminal. Had to do it by controller vibration only, didn't check on reload.

Luckily I got one of the versions thats work. So far I've had no problems at all with this game. Only small glitch was when I fast travelled to a town where I murdered everybody, they are standing and fall dead right away

Played for a few hours tonight. Only got as far as exploring the first town and starting the Gunfight quest, although that took around three hours. No problems so far, but I'm not considering myself lucky yet.

messed my game up like four time 2 hours was the highest...i gotta try to save it like ten times and not were it autosaves either
This is nuts (from http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/10/22/fallout-new-vegas-second-pc-patch-fixes-more-problems/):

Bethesda has recently revealed that another patch for the PC version of Fallout: New Vegas has been released, also it has been revealed that the first patch fixed over 200 issues.
L-O-fucking-L.

Never buying an Obsidian developed game again. They have a metric fuckton of work and reassurances ahead of them if they want me to consider doing so in the near future regardless of the next franchise that falls into their lap.

And yes, that DOES include Mass Effect. I can't wait to see what new glitches this patch unearths. Congrats btw Scorch.

Anyone else noticing the load times are quite reasonable? I have the game installed but for the most part it's only a few seconds to load a new building...

I'm pretty much addicted to this game. I think this is the first game all year I can't wait to get home and play.

I've had 4 hard freezes. The only random freezes issues I had with Fallout 3 were after installing Broken Steel. I guess there are some autosave issues, but I haven't run into any of those. I think I had a autosave get corrupt in Fallout 3.

A lot of main gameplay issues seems to be with pathing. Allies, npcs, and enemies will often run away or panic for no apparent reason. Seen quite a few enemies, npc just get stuck in place or stuck into an object. I originally assumed this would be a more stable refined Fallout 3, but seems like there are a ton of bugs. Hopefully, they fix most of them. The corrupted autosaves, crashes, and being locked into locations are brutal. The pathing stuff is just weird.

Oh, does anyone know if the woman Doctor at the New Vegas Clinic is supposed to be able to heal your limbs? The one in my game does not have the heal option. Have to go to another doctor for limb fixing.

Nice! I just scored a NCR Emergency Radio from a random encounter for having an Accepted rep with them. I can call up to two extra followers (Ranger w/ Cowboy Repeater or Trooper w/ Combat Rifle a.k.a. what appears to be a semi-auto M16) or have them drop off supplies (not sure what's in them yet as I haven't tried it) when and where ever I want in the game.

The only cons are once they die you have to wait 2400 hours (not sure if that's in military time or actual game time in total) before you can use it again and it only takes a shot or two to make them hostile. Killing them affects your rep so anything under Accepted like Mixed for instance will render the radio useless. Oh, and the messenger brought along about five heavily armed Legionnaires with him so beware.

It's going to suck when they find out I'm aligned with FoC as well but screw it. I'm going to enjoy and abuse this as much as humanly possible.

Gah I decided to kill the Legion troops at
the town where they massacred the population, just for the hell of it
and now their stupid assassins show up all the time to gun me down... three times I've had to bump the difficulty down to deal with the six Legion troops that randomly appear, heavily armed. Looks like I'm paying for it hahah. Moving things on the horizon are making me jumpy...:hot:

So hows the patch working out for everybody?

My concern is still the loading times, and It's the only issue I've had during my first play through (only took me 17 hours to beat one of the storylines, and a few sidequests) so I'm starting my second play through to go through the rest and do the hardcore achievement as well.

OK, so I'm about 10 hours into the game, and I have good Karma and I'm neutral with the NCR, but for some reason any NCR that I can have a convo with attacks me. Ranger Andy attacks me on site, any Ranger or NPC trooper at an outpost attacks me. Even dressed up as a NCR they open fire. Anyone else have this problem or I'm i just fucked?
Played some Caravan with Ringo in order to make some caps. The game is actually pretty fun once you figure out how to play.
Indeed. If you've gotten there, play some hands with the bartender at the NCR's Mojave Outpost. She bets a lot more money than Ringo. I'm sure there are people who bet even more, but the Outpost is probably someplace most people stumble upon early. I've made a few thousand caps off of her already.

Had almost no post-patch issues playing today for roughly two hours, though it did hard freeze again when I switched areas during the final mission.

That sucks. I've been dealing with nothing but random lag every since I downloaded it would piss me off if I didn't think a console restart might fix it. The minor ice skating my character exhibits when walking is a little more prevalent now as well. Otherwise most of the launch problems are either gone or less noticeable in general though I'll take whatever I can get at this point.

Post-patch, my game freezes every single time I hit the right bumper. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It hard locks up my system. The patch has made things WORSE.

and before you ask:

Slim 360, and it wasn't a fluke - I've restarted three times now, and each time I hit the right bumper, the game completely locks up.

oh, sweet, it's a known issue.

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1126187-vats-crashing-bug-after-first-patch/

seriously, Obsidian? I hope your studio gets shut down.

I wouldn't trust Obsidian to patch bugs in the game without creating more bugs. That said I've been trying to finish some of the DLC in Fallout 3 before I go get New Vegas and for some reason when I wear the Tesla armor and there's an explosion, the game locks up forcing a restart. That has pissed me off enough already, I hope the issues with New Vegas are resolved before I jump into that game.

I erase my cache, go to load up the New Vegas and get hit with the "some DLC is not present" bug. Sigh. I load anyway and fast travel to a new place (Powder Ganger Camp West, save it, go back to dashboard, go back into the game, apply the patch, load it all back up, and everything seems to be working fine again.

I can't wait to see what bugs I run into next!

Does the old RB+LB+X in-game cache clearing trick still work like it did with Oblivion and Fallout 3? Wish there was some sort of verbose confirmation.

Damn, you guys are gluttons for punishment. Maybe they'll have things smoothed out by the end of the month. Patches creating more bugs? That's preposterous!

Anyone get the guide for the game? I usually use GameFAQs or Wikia, but they're still works in progress and I'm wondering how beneficial the guide would be. Haven't had any stumpers yet, outside of
where to route power (I ended up going with Archimedes II)
at Helios One, and that was more out of wanting to make the best decision for me while pissing off the least amount of people...I already have the Powder Bangers and the Legionaries breathing down my neck.

Seems like the patch has done nothing to help out my problem. I know can't load any of my previous save games and will have to start over. Looks like I will be returning this and using the money to buy Fable III on Tuesday this is ridiculous!

So I never had a single crash before downloading the patch, now I've had two in the least hour since downloading it. Also, on loading my save after the patch my companion had disappeared and now I can't find her anywhere or recruit another.

Bravo Bethesda/Obsidian.

Still no massive issues at about 15 hours in. Still haven't really made a big dent into the story, though. I continue to mostly explore and pick up everything.

Rented tonight. 5 hours or so in, enjoying it, despite the quite dated engine. One thing though, the songs on the radio aren't as good as Fallout 3, :(

Agreed. There are a couple that have grown on me, particularly "Johnny Guitar," but in Fallout 3, just about every song grew on me. I also miss Malcolm McDowell.

if you guys are having problems, clear the cache and don't update. especially you, sigma. no reason to start over.

"Ain't that a kick in the head" ftw

I really, really hate how enemies attack in groups in this game. It's extremely cheap. "Oh, look, it's a giant radscorpion. No problem.. oh, crap.. a second one. I need to switch weapo.. a third?! four!? FIVE!? I NEED TO RUN OH GOD I *dead*"

Thankfully I finished my 1st playthrough 20 minutes before the patch dropped this morning. All of these horror stories have me nervous to start my second playthrough until the next patch is released.

To be fair to Obsidian, I've had ABSOLUTELY no problems before or after the patch, and am REALLY enjoying the game, 16 hours in. I feel like the people who have no problems with bugs are the silent majority. Not that there is a shortage of bugs, but the people who experience problems with the game are certainly more vocal than those without.

I have the guide. It's helpful, but you are constantly flipping from the quest (main or sides are in separate sections), to the area map in another section. They also threw in a nice fold-out world map. The guide is good for maximizing your chance to get intended results and avoiding back tracking, as well as finding where to look for unique weapons/items/books/magazines. They also list what stats are needed (ie Speech 60) before you interact with an NPC. It's worth the $19 I spent on it.

The wikia is coming along, just check the upcoming content http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Upcoming_content or FO:NV stubs.

Yeah, the wikia is definitely coming along. Two days ago, almost nothing I looked up had any content, other than a small blurb about it being something in New Vegas. Tonight, just about everything I look up at least has some details, enough to let me know what I need to know. I used the hell out of that site for Fallout 3, so I know it will definitely come in handy again.
