Final Fantasy XIII Date announced, $56.99 at Amazon.

by the time this game is released, I should have enough sony reward points from my sony card to get this for free through the purchase credit:lol:
I wonder when theyll announce the Collecters (but not limited) edition?
Given the recent trend of companies these days, I'll wait for the GOTY edition myself. You just know it's going to happen eventually...

Does Square-Enix really do a lot of DLC though? I know they do on their digital download stuff (actually to a rather absurd amount), but I'm not sure I've seen it much on their full retail titles.

I don't think they really have an extensive enough track record this generation to judge for sure, at least for games which were actually developed by Square. The Last Remnant had some, but not a ton. How many other games have they actually developed for PS3 and 360 this generation? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Final Fantasies often get "International Editions" in Japan, but a GOTY edition in NA would be somewhat unprecedented. That doesn't mean it won't happen, we'll have to wait and see. I haven't heard anything about DLC yet for the Japanese release.
Also, my never-ending 20% ECA discounted order is full of win. Just... might swap out the regular edition for the CE at some point if/when they announce it.
I wish I had thought of doing something like that have a 30% off order but it's full of games from my goldbox so I can't combine it with anything else

You know though, this brings up a good point. The International Edition almost never comes to the US, but almost always includes a few new features (i.e. new bosses, etc). I could totally see them doing that as DLC this time around. However, I think you are right in that a GOTY edition seems unlikely from them.

Like others, holding out for a collectors edition (hoping steel book like FF 12 which was awesome) and waiting for that version to hit my gold box.

No more eca means i only buy if it hits my gold box since I need the extra discount to justify buying anything new.

Also, would love them to add a video game credit to it.

Honestly not sure that trend is going to keep up after the holidays, though we can certainly hope.

I'd be shocked if FFXIII doesn't have a fairly extravagant collector's edition. I loved the FFXII steelbook too, so I hope their CE starts with at least that for both consoles. All CEs should be steelbook.

I hope so, but I thought FFXII's CE was kind of lame (except the steelbook, that was cool). It was just a couple retrospective pieces which weren't much more than a little blurb on each Final Fantasy game. I don't think the developer interviews were very extensive either. Other than that, it had some trailers I could look up on youtube.

I hope they do more this time around - maybe an art book :)

If they do do a CE, I hope it's not a CE that's GS exclusive, like FFXII's was.

And for those of you waiting for it to hit their gold box, I don't think anyone has ever gotten it in their quick picks. It doesn't mean that eventually Amazon will allow it to be eligible for the extra 5% off before March, but as of right now, you're not going to see it. Versus has shown up, but never XIII.

It did show up in my gold box a few days back, but it was the Xbox 360 version. Planning to get the PS3 version, so I passed up on it. Also hoping for a CE/LE version.

I'm still holding out hope that the 250GB FFXIII PS3 bundle will be released in the US...
It's probably not going to happen, but it would be totally awesome! :whee:

God, I've been hoping so too, that thing is gorgeous. Given that FFXIII is not console exclusive in NA, I'd say it might be somewhat less likely, but we can dream.
Waiting for more details on this (particularly whether it will ship with a Versus XIII demo or not), but this is the game I would like to use the $40 voucher for. Square has until New Year's Eve to really impress me.
You aren't impressed yet? Have you been living in Afghanistan for the past year or what?

Cool - I got an email from Square Enix so I knew of the release date announcement already, but what was news to me in this thread was the price drop at Amazon (from the $59.99 I preordered it at) and the release-date shipping. I was saw that the price had been adjusted but since I paid with credit it just showed a negative balance for the difference which I guess, normally, you don't get back until it ships. However, when I changed the shipping option to release-date it updated the total and refunded me the price drop - nice! I had never heard of that before - so I guess if you pay with credit and want to get your price-drop refund right away just fiddle with the shipment option. I had used one of me $30 trade-in promos on this (as well as an ECA code or two ;)) so the total price for this is, well, dirt cheap...

Also, FWIW, Mass Effect 2 now has release-date shipping as an option.

Really? I know FFXIII has been discussed many times in the Quick Picks thread as being ineligible. Maybe the 360 version has been added, so that could mean the PS3 version has been or will be added. I know I've personally been trying since at least April, and have never gotten either version in my Quick Picks.

Regardless, I really hope the inevitable International version has dual audio. I'm tempted to buy Star Ocean PS3's International just to encourage SE to release more International versions...

SCEA will never release that. We'll get Hanna Montana and Family Guy themed systems before that.

I've been into gaming for a long, long time, and I honestly think that this will be the strongest first quarter that the industry has ever seen. More heavy hitters than many holiday seasons have seen...

I just noticed that FF13 is priced at $100 (9250 Yen) in japan!!!

um... I am going to pre-order from Amazon now.....

That's normal for Japan. Nothing to see here. . .

What version is everyone getting? PS3 or 360? I am deciding between the two, but right now I am probably getting it on PS3.

PS3 because the last time I tried playing an RPG on 360, it died. Not getting stuck in that position ever again. fuck M$.

Only thing I like about 360 is Games can be installed to HDD to improve the loading speed.

I wish FF13 on PS3 won't take too long time on loading.

I will suffer through a few more seconds of load time here and there if I don't have to deal with the absurd disc swapping I had to go through to farm nodes for SO4.

Yeah, even though the multiplatform thing was a coup for MS, I just can't see playing a FF game on the 360 - got to be PS3. Plus I am always up more for trophies than achievement points which I can't really explain other than the different levels of trophies feel more like goals to shoot for over just random amounts of gamerscore points (that and it is more obvious to tell which games were beaten to completion while viewing other people's trophy lists).

Plus I have the PS3 hooked up to the better TV ;).

is the combat gonna be the same garbage combat that was in the last game? i quit halfway through because of the stupid ai gambit system.

Im loving this. Date, cool. Price cool. Possible console special edition cool.

LEONA LEWIS!?!?!? NOT COOL! FAIL SONG

I have both versions pre-ordered and I'll make my final decision before release on which to cancel. 360 if the graphics are more than marginally better, ps3 if the saves(or whatever) will have any affect on Versus. Most likely ps3 if exactly the same or close to it. We'll see!

Yeah, I am hoping this comes here as well. I odn't have a PS3 so would buy this one if it comes out here, but doubt it will. I'm too cheap to ever pay full price for a game, but FFXIII will be the only game I will preorder.

Yeah... I would rather have the Japanese theme song tbqh.

Suteki da ne was very moving the first time I heard it in FFX, I don't know if I'll feel the same with a Leona Lewis song...

That being said, the Japanese VO's better come on the disc, b/c the English VA in the trailer sounded like shit.

EDIT: Considering the White Engine was built from the ground up with the PS3 in mind, I doubt the X360 version will have anything like better graphics... It would surprise me.

Yeah, I was actually going to (reluctantly) ask which version you guys are going with. Sounds like PS3 is the best bet, tho God only knows.

The only bonus with the 360 is that you could just install the whole sucker. But then again, that wouldn't keep you from having to swap discs, would it, come to think of it...

Guess I'll pre-order for PS3. Plenty of time to cancel. And then I can be good and pissed when it's $44.99 somewhere as a deal of the day two weeks later.

White Engine is a PC development platform.
White Engine is a PC development platform.
White Engine was built with creating multi-platform titles in mind, I guess the better wording would have been that initial development for FXIII using the WE was for the PS3.

The X360 version is a port no matter how you look at it, and I'd be hard-pressed to find a port of a game which looks better than the original unless it's a re-release with new content (Sigma or similar games).

Not to get off topic, but you just reminded me of FF 13 Versus. Is that even coming out for 360? or is it still PS3 only? I wonder if FF 13 Versus will even make a 2010 release. It would be nice to see that released during the 2010 Holiday.

Versus so far is PS3 only
They're gonna print like fifty billion copies why preorder?
Because we want it at release & want to lock-in the preorder cheaper price (and possible further incentives)? I never understood why some ppl are alergic to preordering. Amazon doesn't charge until it ships, you know.

Based on Amazon's recent (and frequent) price drops after release date, I'm going to hold off on pre-ordering from them and see if any other companies will throw in additional goodies if you buy from them.

In for the PS3 version though, since it was originally designed for the console in mind.

I would prefer to get it on 360, but if the PS3 version is significantly better, I'll have to go with PS3. Whichever version loads faster may sway my decision too.

Yeah that wasn't something I had thought of initially when I placed my orders. Installing games is -quite- awesome and one of my favorite features on the xbox. Ahhh the dilemma! It's so easy for most multi-plats, they look about the same on the 360(maybe slightly better) but can be installed and I like to keep a majority of the games on one system anyway. But Joker content swayed me on Batman, which is funny considering how little I've played the challenge rooms. I plan to beat it again late this year when I'm done with most of these games and waiting for 2010(it has me drooling).

Oh wow, FFXIII is actually going to beat GoW III out the door. Wonder when GT5 is coming out, I'm not interested in that one but these freaking games have been in development for just too long.

That would be cool if a completed FF13 save had any effect on Versus. But Versus will not come out until 2011, as they actually pulled people working on Versus over to XIII so they could finish development faster, so I dunno. I'm still holding out hope there will be a demo or something with the PS3 version, that would seal the purchase for me. As you can tell, I'm more excited for Versus at the moment than XIII, it just looks like a breath of fresh air for this series.

And if you hated XII's combat system, my preliminary observation is XIII's system looks kind of similar to Xenosaga. But that's just a guess.
