Well, I signed up for this today after hearing about it for the first time today in the VC discussion thread (I never look in this forum

).
I HATE having to call and cancel, and I felt especially dirty signing up for a dating site given that I'm married. But what the hell, I went for it.
Not 1 hour after I signed up I got a call from Wells Fargo fraud prevention. Someone tried to use my card to buy tires in Canada (but got denied). So they cancelled my card for me. Now, either this has NOTHING to do with true.com, or it has everything to do with it. I did not lose my card, and I'm the only one who uses it (wife uses other cards). The only good thing about this is that my true.com membership went through (I think) before we cancelled - they said there was a $1 authorization on there from them which I said was OK. So, probably, I don't even need to bother cancelling - they will try to charge me with the cancelled card in a week

. Everything else they listed was OK too, but then I got online tonight and apparently 2 charges must have snuck in between when I called them and they actually cancelled it - some store and a vineyard (for about $80 total).
The wierd thing is that this has happened to me before - where someone got denied using a card to buy stuff (last time it was in Irvine, CA) and that red-flagged my account. And just like this time, a few snuck through. I have no idea what people are doing - making fake cards or something? How are some getting denied and some making it through? They were all done (last time anyway) in person and not online where I might understand some sneaking through. The time it happened before was on a card I never use online and barely use at all (it was my Costco AMEX card that I pretty much only use at Costco). This time it was the Visa I use for everything. Highly annoying, but I'm sure I won't be responsible for the $80 that went through - I just have to call back in the morning when the fraud dept is open

.
Anyway - a heads up since the only 'wierd' thing I did was sign up with true.com and this happened pretty soon afterwards. I have no evidence, obviously, but just be on the lookout (as not all card companies may be quite as on top of it as mine was).
Either that or online security has really been flagging lately and people are getting account numbers from merchants or the bank by hacking their servers or whatever. It is really quite disturbing as this has happened twice now in 1 year after only happening once to me in 18 or so years before that (and that time it was when I was travelling and someone snagged my card number from a hotel and tried to make long distance calls with it but was denied becaue they didn't know my zip code).
this is a true fact ppl. my card has fradulant charges. and ive NEVER EVER had them except until i signed up with true.com. DO NOT DO THIS. I REPEAT DO NOT RISK ALL THIS FOR A 20 DOLLAR WII CARD.
