Which edit of a new product entry, if any, needs to be approved in order for a game to be searchable? Seems to me it would be the "New Tag: Game" edit as that is the first in the list of edits for a new product. Seems almost like it takes too long for actual games to enter the search database. It might be because users are not being directed to that specific edit. Or it might be because more votes are needed. I don't know. All I know is, in clicking through, I once exhausted all automatically loaded edits. In doing so, I know I wasn't directed to all available edits.

Pretty much went through 300+ edits (starting with 900 up to the most recent). Most, if not all, "New Tag: Game" edits have yet to be approved... or declined for that matter, since I encountered multiples for LoZ: Majora's Mask 3D, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and the mentioned Pokemon games.

So, I added Assassin's Creed Syndicate with nothing but a title, and it didn't enter the queue line. Only after going back and editing in the tag "Game" did it. This leads me to believe that the community has no say at all in whether or not a new product enters the database; we only have a say in the edits. This still leaves me wondering what makes a product searchable.

Nearly 14,000 entries sooner (and who knows if there are any others...) this Pandora's Tower cannot be found via searches, but this one can be.

I added rock band 4 over a week ago and it did not appear in the list. Today I tested by adding Just Dance 2016 and it also did not appear? I few weeks back I added project mirai dx without an issue.

Is anyone else experiencing issues and is this feature still being supported by the CAG Team?

As someone who has been active in the community game database moderation, both on this system and the older one, I still really can't figure it out. I believe its a combination of votes + a final go ahead by the admin system, as I've noticed some of my pending edits get approved in batches all in the same day.

More information would be essential either way.

Yeah, I've noticed that a title change and uploaded image to an already searchable game (Assassin's Creed 3 360) did not enter the queue line. Here are the edit pages 1, 2.

I've also noticed that an approved edit for an image change did not take place on the product page (Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition XONE). It might take a few days, but I'm pretty sure the other few approved image edits I've been keeping an eye on made the update to the product page much quicker.

EDIT: fixed TR: DE, with another edit.

Just added AC Syndicate (PC) with no tags, then with "Game" tag, then uploaded an image. The edit queue reflected respectively: no queue link, link to "Game" tag edit, then link to image edit (i.e. the link to "Game" edit overtaken). Since checking, the "Game" edit has already been denied.

Also added Fallout 4 (XONE). This time included the "game" tag on first submission, then uploaded the image. The edit queue reflected no link, then a link to the image edit. The "game" edit still exists waiting to be approved/declined, BUT I don't think users will be directed there automatically. I had previously exhausted my "Start Moderating" edits, and when I clicked with these fresh edits, I was only directed to the image edit as if that was the only one available.

How does a title get the release date info? Via UPC or EAN?

How do multi-platform games get indicated as such on an the individual platform page? The Assassin's Creed III Wii U page is grouped with blank links to PS3 and PC. The other ACIII grouping is for working PS3/360/PC links, but has no link to the Wii U page. Why not? Does it have to do with release dates?

On the CAG home page, what determines the "Upcoming Releases" list? Is it based on release date info on games in the database? Some more titles appeared within the last couple days, and their release dates are [customspoiler='likely inaccurate.']

[/customspoiler] (The Last Guardian... :lol: ) Soon to be released titles (like AC Syndicate, which releases this Friday) aren't even on the list. It's probably because they aren't in the database, or at least because they don't have release date info.

Thanks! Went ahead and did so. In the meantime, I'll continue noting any other concerns/issues/suggestions I may have. Hopefully others will too.

If users come across a duplicate entry in the database, is there any way to mark it for deletion? Or could it be implemented? Of course, the user would be required to indicate/link to the original if it would go to a vote.

How about a user score for the submission of successful edits? Kinda like the "Top Mods" score or even feedback. This could be shown on the edit pages to let users know an editor's history. Declines shouldn't necessarily get you a negative score though, since it seems some declines are automatic and maybe undeserved. I've noticed that uploading images multiple times for the same product will decline all previously uploaded images for that product by that user. Which is actually great! It allows the user to correct their own mistakes and the community doesn't have to judge them.

For whatever reason, a Fallout 4 (PS4) submitted product page has gone blank. I'm assuming it's been deleted, indicated by the "()" as the title on the edit pages. May have been a duplicate, but who knows!? Don't worry, there are still 7 Majora's Masks pending...

"If you're resubmitting a product that's already in the database, you may be blocked from submitting new games to the database in the future." Is this even enforced? How about for users who submit for multiple (unannounced) platforms, especially when submitted so far in advance! Who are the idiots who approved those Battlefront IIIs!?

Don't know whether to make edits to the established entries, or make new ones. Hmm...

Well, it looks like an edit attempting to change the console platform causes an error. Another thing that I guess needs to be fixed. Or a mark for deletion option would work as well. Or people with more sense that don't add games to the database 10 years before release.

So, the AC Syndicate (XONE PS4) "game" tag edits were finally approved!

IIRC, users were directed there automatically by clicking through. I had intentionally not uploaded images to see what would happen, since the image edits seem to overtake pretty much all other edits when clicking the queue links. Unfortunately, the "game" tag approval does not seem to make the games searchable.

Updated OP with a list of what I think are most of the unsearchable entries. Don't know if it's coincidence or not, but there's a whole chunk (1000 at least) of alphabetical-ordered, searchable PC games, before the entries are no longer searchable. Kalimba (XONE), as far as I can tell, is the only searchable one right after the chunk of PC entries. #IDARB, after Kalimba, is not searchable. The list is comprised of #IDARB and all submitted entries thereafter.

Hopefully this can be used temporarily as a fix gets implemented so users can know what games are currently pending. And if they wish, they could use the list to make edits to 'existing' database entries.

This has been happening for a while. Uploading images will often times result in a blank/empty upload (no image, just the crop table) and less often, a black box image. Also, it seems like all images that are slightly larger than recommended size always get the recommended size error message.

Is there a way to tell if items in the unsearchable database list have images either already in review or have been approved? I don't want to go uploading images for unsearchable titles that already have images in the queue.

I don't think there's an easy way to tell, just like there really isn't for the searchable database. I think I mentioned it before, but there really should be be some kinda back and forth link between a product page and all of that product's edit pages. I know if you as a single user upload images multiple times for the same product, your previous image edits get automatically declined. Pretty sure that doesn't happen with multiple users as I've "corrected" other user's image uploads and their image remains pending. This creates another potential problem since the "bad" image could later be approved and overtake the already approved one.

I wouldn't worry about adding images for the unsearchables. If you do, I would maybe do one at a time. I knowingly uploaded for each of the Fallout 4 PS4, mainly because the more complete product page didn't have an image. I usually try to upload the image at the time I add the product. But, it's likely that another Xeno 3D or LoZ: MM 3D will be added again, and that might just mean more work. :lol:

Still don't know exactly how individual points are earned. Is it 1 per edit, when you vote with the majority and the edit is finalized? Or is it more than 1? Cuz I've seen some disproportionate score changes among users when chunks of edits go through.

Also, what finalizes an edit? Is it via a certain number of votes, where one last user's vote will do it? Or, do high score users' votes really weigh more heavily, like stated on the main page? Either way, it just might be that not enough users have judged the pending edits, and/or we don't have enough high score users voting.

I guess my biggest concern still is when added products become searchable, so that we don't have to deal with duplicate entries. I just added Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam to see if it was immediately searchable, but it isn't. While doing that, I was reminded of another problem that I forgot to mention (but I think may have been mentioned in another thread). When searching for entries that use an ampersand "&" symbol instead of "and," if you search with the symbol, you do not get results, but you will if you search with "and."

The searchability issue is the main thing I'm working on now. In short, the database containing the game data and the search indexes are two separate things - and right now, when you add a game the system which updates the index is failing. (And has been for some time.)

It'll be the next thing that gets fixed.

yeah!!! Just tried Devil's Third and it worked! Also, before I forget, I think Paper Jam is still in limbo, so if you can manually make that one searchable, that'd be great!

Another search problem I probably forgot to mention is colons ":". I know most people probably won't use &s or :s when searching, but...

Awesome, now I can finally add some upcoming games to the database, and put them in my wishlist. Just tried adding Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and it came up in search.

Yep. John's test adds do not show up in the edit queue, and at this point, why would they need to if they are automatically searchable? Only problem I see with that, is that the tags attributed to them (on the first add?) also do not enter the queue.

But, when you say "doesn't always show up", does it ever? (Besides when a post loads in immediately after you submitting it.)

I know certain features are still coming back online (e.g. galleries), and it's understood given the circumstances, but there are still a lot of issues that I/we had posted in the 3.0 upgrade and maintenance threads that were never really addressed. Hopefully we can get on a roll and start tackling them!
