It's undoubtedly one of the worst Final Fantasy entries in the franchise. It's also the prettiest one, but that doesn't take it very far. Like the guy before me said, it's incredibly linear with no real exploration.

I love linear games just as much as the next guy, but a JRPG with little to no freedom in anything you do kind of defeats the purpose. It's really just a lavish centerpiece for its dull story.
To me it was about expectations. Final Fantasy burned every bridge with X, X-2, XI and XII for me that my nostalgia from SNES days was not enough.

Once I completely gave up on the series I found XIII to be a fun entry by no longer thinking how it would measure up to IV, V, and VI.

I've never had problems with linear games, and I don't think that was FF13's problem. Heck, Magna Carta 2 was more linear than FF13, yet I enjoyed it more. I think FF13's problems stem from awful characters and the boring, overcomplicated story. I'm still not sure if the story was complicated or not... maybe it was just so boring that I didn't care enough to keep differentiating between what a Fal-cie or a Le-cie or a Something-cie was doing to whom and why the hell I should care. And I wanted towns. I like towns.

However, Sazh was awesome, and the game does get much better around Chapter 11.
I'm seeing Dante's Inferno for 40. Have to be quick on the draw on these.
Its still 14.99 for me. Sure youre looking at the used price and NOT the price for a new one?

I didn't think X was that bad. Sure it sort of started the linearity to be realized in XIII by removing a traditional overworld, but I had fun with the sphere grid. The characters and voice acting were definitely the parts that threw everything into upheaval for FF purists. I probably wouldn't have minded the characters having voices if the dialog wasn't so abysmal. I genuinely feel bad for poor Bender who had to read all those stupid Wakka lines.

X-2 was a joke, XI isn't even really in the series, and I thought XII was spectacular snooze fest. I'm happy to finally be done with this series.

So can anyone explain to me how adding Dark Void, Darksiders, Aliens vs. Predator, and Alpha Protocol to my backlog of games that already includes a legendary run on Halo: Reach, Demon's Souls, Mirror's Edge, inFamous, Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, and the God of War Collection, with pre-orders on Fallout: New Vegas, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Fable III, and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood while being a full time college student is a good thing?

I'm on fence buying MAG.
I have MW2, Reach and Killzone 2 being played and I don't know if I need MAG. Reading from the reviews the squad commanding feature looks fun.
Anyone wants to help me decide?

As much as it pains me, I had to hold off on the 2 :ps3: games I don't have even though they are good prices. Also noticed AVP and Darksiders keep going down and down by 4 bucks each passing month Gamefly has a sale... Keep it up gamefly!

I'm on the fence about Darksiders. I played the demo and thought it was just OK with "bulletsponge" enemies. Can anyone comment either way whether the demo is indicative of the rest of the game?

Wow, what a great sale! There's so much I wanted to buy, but not enough money! Ended up getting S&P2, ME2, and L4D2! Haha, all sequels...

I just caved and picked up Rouge Warrior :ps3:. I know the game is complete shit, but for $8.xx I cant pass up adding another game to my collection. I hope it is at lest worth some easy trophies.

I have a 13 game backlog (Thats it?) but I got PS3 Dante and ACII. I HOPE GoW3 comes back in stock. If it does Ill be getting Dead Space and R&C with it.

MW2, KZ2 and Halo are just slight variations of the same basic game, MAG offers an entirely new perspective. sure you'll get into one on one encounters, you'll storm rooms with multiple enemies, but the sense of scale, strategies used, teamwork needed is far beyond what other titles offer. That's without even touching the huge 128 vs 128 battles. There's also a lot of variety on what you can do to help your team if you're not good at straight killing, so there's something for everyone

Also it's 18 bucks, and you'll get A LOT of game out of that money, I'm on 110+ right now, and I only play on weekends (since release). This is also the most rewarding game, where you feel you've earned every kill or successful maneuver you do.

Also, dropping a couple of bombs on the enemy platoon and see the kills rack up is pretty awesome :)

Thank you. This helped me getting one.

Damn you Gamefly!!! you'll be the death of me... picked up avp, prince of persia, dark void, mag, and alpha protocol for the ps3... hopefully dante's inferno comes back in stock

I beat Darksiders just recently and I really enjoyed it. Darksiders comes off as a bad GOW clone, and in some ways it is, but really shines in its puzzles and pacing. The puzzles were fun to solve, never made me feel frustrated, and gave me a nice feeling of accomplishment afterwards. It's also a game that rewards you with new gadgets and weapons at a frequent rate, giving you reason to continue to the next area. However, I felt as though the combat was very repetitive and lackluster, with boss battles as the exceptions. In the end, and this has been said often, it is more like a Zelda homage than it is a hack and slash clone, and a very well made homage to boot. As for how it compares to the demo...I don't know because I didn't play the demo, sorry

Edit: Also, I would like to note that I paid around $13 for it and got what I felt like $25 of fun from it, so this is an excellent price. Pick it up!

Argh! so hard to choose! I have over 10-15 games of backlog yet I still want more games! Was wondering if I should get darksider and borderland for 360? Do you think these 2 games would drop in price within the next few months? Help a fellow gamer.

Nice deals. I don't know if I should pick up Alpha Protocol or not at that price. I don't think its going to be long before its down to $9.99.

I just got an xbox, bc my ps3 failed for the third time...shoulda got another ps3, o well this sale is awesome, maybe i can get my collection up... which of these games are must have

Damn, I decided to get one as well. Thanks LOL
Hey I forgot to look... I just bought 3 games and forgot to look how long the free shipping takes... Any of you duders know?
4-7 business days
Are these $5 coupons unique per customer or is there a discount I am unaware of/missed?
Unique per customer and for actual Gamefly members.

On that note, got Prince of Persia for 360. Got enough of a backlog to say I can wait on Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy 13.

Darn these sales,,,,,

Picked up (xbox) POP:TFS for the price figure its worth the pick up and Need for Speed shift (PS3) something to tide me over till GT5 comes.

Tempted to jump on Alpha Protocol but figure it might pull an AVP and drop from $14.99 to $12.99 soon.. I can wait.

And on the fence about GTA: Episodes from liberty City .... figured this sale is good til Oct 4th, so have some time to decide.
I've never bought used games from Gamefly. What condition do PS3 games come in?
Every game I purchased was in excellent condition. Case, Art, book, and CD.
They even have the XBOX 360 seal just cut. Like the way GS tries to sell you a game as new and tells you it is in excellent condition.

Damn, I really want to buy Mass Effect 2 for 360, and FF13 for Ps3... but does anyone know if I buy ME2 used from gf will I get that cerebrus network code?

99.9% certain you will, as once the game is opened, the disc is removed and everything is stored until the game is sold. All DLC should be unclaimed and case, manual, artwork should be pristine.

Dante Divine is one of the best deals of the year. 15? Dear Lord. I've been personally checking this game daily on Amazon for the past 5 months, and now it's finally mine.
Are these $5 coupons unique per customer or is there a discount I am unaware of/missed?
unique, as in you have to pay a monthly fee to get them, like 20+/month lately

I finally bit on Dante's Inferno :D. I heard the DLC is good. I rented it, and wasn't really impressed, but I guess I can finish it now, and hopefully get some real fun out of the DLC.
What's the difference between the 360 and ps3 of Dante's Inferno?
PS3 version got the first DLC for free via a code in the box, and had the following exclusives locked to the game disc:

Making of game documentary
digital artbook
full game soundtrack
digital reprint of the full original poem

Not seeing Bioshock 2 for $14.99 anymore, just the new price of $39.99. Debating picking something up (extra copy of MAG for my buddy maybe). Backlog is too high as it is, and the holiday season is coming up...

Re: FFXIII -- i have to disagree with some of the other posters -- i'm one of the people that absolutely loved it. Yes, it's too linear for the first half of the game. Yes, the story is a bit convoluted... but the battle system is fantastic. Rather then spend time spamming the same orders over and over as ends up being common in many rpgs, you basically choose between different sets of paradigms for your active fighters. these paradigms basically control what they can do (ie, have one guy heal, one guy be a tank, one guy buff... or all three buff, etc). You can hand pick your main guys orders, or just hit 'x' to do what the ai thinks is a good move. As you learn more about a specific enemy, the ai will get smarter (ie, if the enemy is immune to something, you'll stop casting it once you learn that). There is a ton of strategy built into this setup -- for some of the tough battles, it's quite the challenge figuring out a successful paradigm strat. Now, people that like micromanaging battles might not like it, but i love the fact that it recognizes the fact that 99/100 times you're going to do the same thing in traditional rpgs, and so instead turns that on it's head and actually gives you powerful tools to control the battle, while automating the grunt stuff. so... yea, i loved this game. absolutely loved it. the battle system is pretty complex, so the game introduces new aspects very slowly, which contributes to the pacing problems and linearity. great game.

darksiders - awesome game. great fun.

now i'm on the fence about mag. part of me wants it. part of me wants to hit my backlog instead.

Caved on FF13 for the PS3. If the game came out at a less busy time of year I would have paid full price for it now I'm really glad I didn't . Even tho I should have waited on both Bioshock 2 and GoW3 after seeing all the deals on it especially though Gamefly.

Limited myself to only one game on this deal and I've been getting into the bad habit of supporting these deals monthly.

Nothing here for me (since I own about anything good). FFXIII is definitely worth it though, as is Darksiders which I immensely enjoyed.

I too am one of those that actually really loved FFXIII. As someone who loved FFVII-X (never played XII) I found it refreshing to see a change to the system. I also really appreciated the fact that I was able to beat it without having to grind for hours upon hours. Grinding does help if you want to do it, but it is not a necessary evil.

Nothing I hated more than playing the older games, getting to the end levels and realizing that I was waaaayyyy too weak to stand a chance. Also it's nice to not have to run in a circle hoping for a random encounter, the enemies are right there for you to see.

Overall, I was very happy with the FFXIII experience.
Will get S&P if it lasts until Thursday. Really like these Gamefly sales.
Sadly, S&P2 is sold out. Hope they get more though.

Edit- And there it goes again.

Apparently, you can't check out with it.
