GameGavel.com - The Gamer's Auction Site - In Lieu of Ebay's 2011 Fee Update Madness!

of course like usual i am late to the party...but i did sign up under Jedi1979 and am pleased to see I can look through the closed auctions which helps quite a bit...I look forward to listing some of my vintage games

I was wondering if there was an option for managing international bidders (only allowing domestic bidders, etc.). Also thanks for the free account and the site looks awesome!!
I am having a problem posting images from URL's. I try to post and it just kind of freezes.
Not sure why? Can you just upload the photos as a jpeg of gif - we host them? Never had an issue before -- Let me know if this helps.

That's a great question , and suprisingly one that hasn't come up yet. For now, I guess the answer is no, you will just have to make sure to mention that within your auction description. Bold it :)
Hey SoCal Mike,

We are still charged for listing enhancements, right? Or are those free too?
They are free.. . .but like I said, use the Featured areas (homepage or category) only for rare or higher priced items. Also, use the bold and highlighted listings sparringly as well. Hope this helps you out :)

Will do. Thanks for all your help

I guess I never got to thanking you for the membership, so I'd like to extend my appreciation here. I've got long hours away from home, so I'll dig through my closet this weekend and see if there's anything good to list.

Wishlist feature: view completed auctions by item.

As both a shopper and seller, I like to see what current "market value" is on items by searching closed auctions for initial prices, closing prices, whether they've sold or not, etc.

We do have an advanced search area which you can click under the main search bar. Then you can type in what you are looking for then use the pull down menu to choose recently closed. That may help you. Let me know. Thanks.

Fantastic! Thank you very much. I just registered as BuyJapan.;)

Id be interested if any are still available. 3500+ feedback on fleabay and havent sold regularly since the recent rules change

I've been looking for a alternative to EBay for awhile. no i'm not a power seller, i have like 43ish feedback.

If you still have giving out memberships, let me know ;)

You guys get on there and use the site then. He cant always give out free memberships. The fees are 1/10th of what ebay is charging and no listing fees.

I don't see how I didn't notice this before, and I guess by not noticing, I missed out on free membership.

Oh well, site looks nice, I registered anyway - as LegendK1ll3r.

I sell a $50 game on ebay, ebay fees alone are 5.07 for fixed price listing.

Here its a flat 1.50.

Yes its not really 1/10th but its ~30% of the ebay fees, so 3/10ths does that make it worse somehow?

But hey get that membership if you can, I would!

count me in, i've been gradually increasing my ebay sales and am sick of all the hidden fees, especially being tied to paypal and getting double charge :whistle2:(

if you dont need a credit card how do they charge you the fees......

i might try to dump off these SHE RA dvd collections i forgot to return to best buy before the 30 days was up...
Aww, c'mon man. It's not hard enough for us to find deals already?
Good point! I will place in all of my listings "INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS MUST CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING." That way, I can work out a shipping arrangement. I just want to be careful, because ebay bidders will sometimes ignore "SHIPS TO U.S. ONLY".

our system bills out every 30 days and you can use paypal to pay the fees. this will change in the future after we set up a true merchant account.

if you don't use paypal we can always work out other payment arrangements like mailing a check or something.

So far hasn't happened but as we grow this will all be changed. Like I said, i will probably get a real merchant account after a short while. But for know selling fees are simply paid through paypal.

If anyone is wondering about the new hold policy, here is a reply from them on the new change:

Dear *******,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

Hello, I hope all is well with you. My name is *******, and it is my
pleasure to assist you. I understand that you have already shipped the
item through USPS but the funds are still on hold. I sincerely apologize
for the inconvenience this has caused you but I would be more than
willing to help you on your concern. Let me check your account further.

Upon checking USPS, I see that the item was delivered on October 18th.
Please note that the funds will be released three days after the
confirmed delivery date. PayPal may also release the funds if the buyer
leaves a positive feedback regarding the item. In this case, the funds
will be released 24 hours after the feedback is posted.

PayPal may release the Payment Hold when one of the criteria is met:
  • The buyer leaves positive feedback after receiving the item.

  • 21 days without a dispute, claim, chargeback or reversal filed on
    that transaction.

  • 3 days after PayPal confirms item delivery.
PayPal can confirm delivery if you use USPS, UPS, or FedEx to ship the
item and use PayPal shipping labels, or upload tracking information to
PayPal through the transaction details page. This applies to US domestic
transactions only.

If you ship through an alternative carrier or the shipment is not US
domestic, PayPal will be unable to confirm delivery. In this situation,
the buyer must provide positive feedback or 21 days must elapse without
a buyer dispute, claim, chargeback or other action.

I would like to let you know that you are valuable to us, and it is
important for me to help you resolve your concern. If in case you feel
that these information / instructions are inadequate, please don't
hesitate to contact our Community Support Agents at 1-888-221-1161, and
we would be delighted to further assist you regarding your immediate
concern.

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter, and
wish you continued success on PayPal. Rest assured that we are committed
to making your experiences at PayPal pleasant and rewarding.

Sincerely,
*******

yada . . .yada. . . yada - I appreciate your contribution to my thread. But since you brought it up (not me), I can hear a pindrop over there. But he does give away some nice prizes. Some constructive crit would be to take the money spent on prizes and use it to advertise and drive more traffic to the site to bring more buyers so more sellers will sign up and sell more stuff. Then the snowball will start to roll like the Chuckwagon. Take it for what it's worth. Prizes are great and we have had our share, but nothing beats having traffic which you just can't get if you give everything away :)

Not sure what you mean here? Our Login appears to be up and running? Let me know if there was another problem. Thanks,

Hey Everyone -

What does everyone think regarding our domain name http://www.ChaseTheChuckwagon.com? I really like the name form an "old school" standpoint but not sure how it translates to main stream gamers these days.

Let me know what you think. I have also registered the domain name
http://www.Vid-Bid.com.

Not saying I will be changing our name anytime soon, but keeping the options open.

Which name would you vote for and what name do you think would be more likely to draw in new members?

Hope some of you will chime in. And as you will see Vid-Bid.com now forwards to the Chuckwagon so those of you looking to type in a shorter name, here you go :)

Obviously the story goes that Ebay started with Pez or whatever..

Are you able to register a domain name that will allow expansion should a need/desire ever arise?

Vid-Bid is not bad though.

I've registered Vid-Bid just so if I ever feel a name change would better the community, and bring in more buyers to bid on our sellers items then I will consider it.

Or maybe just tieing the two together or something. Maybe have both ChaseTheChuckwagon & Vid-Bid.com on the same title header. I think for the younger, mainstream gamer crowd Vid-Bid.com may be more enticing to join.

But I can't argue with the success we've had as CTCW.com. The name doesn't seemed to have hurt us one bit. But could we have grown faster on more maintstream, modern gaming forums with a more modern sounding name? That is the question?

Thoughts ?
