System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.

Anyone hear anything else about that Blockbuster online deal where you can return the movies to the store (and get another rental for free at the same time)?

Supposedly it starts this Friday (Nov. 2), but I haven't seen anything about it other than the post here.

Just thought I'd point out that Nov. 2 is a Thursday. Halloween is the 31st and that's on Tuesday. I had an employee confirm this rumor the other day. Blockbuster just launched a new online website today and has been promising big changes lately, so I'd guess the deal will happen. Seems to me they are really trying to put Netflix out of business with this move.

Grrr. I went on Saturday and even talked to the manager. He looked up my history and told me that I didnt have to switch. Things dont dissapear and I should get it as soon as it arrives. It has officially been a year and 1 week since I first Preordered. I got the managers name and stuff and left, I woulda argued it more but I was on a schedule. It took longer than I expected but lines were long and stuff.

I may have to go back and make sure to switch it cause I do not want to be screwed out of the game.

Quick question though, they have it listed for GC AND a Dec release. Isnt this a launch title and shouldnt it be released in Nov? Also, shouldnt it officially be for the Wii? I wondered all this while in line so I thought if I have to go back and argue, I better have my facts straight.

Yep, Ravenous, there's your excuse to switch it (and thus refresh the preorder). You have the GC version preordered - you want the Wii, thus they should switch them for you. Note that last time I checked they were still charging $59.99 for Wii titles, so just ask to put the $49.99 as a deposit instead of paying the whole thing off. I'm assuming they will fix that shortly (if they haven't already).

A manager is ideally the person who ...manages the store. The CSRs (or whatever GR calls them) are the kids hired to help the customers the majority of the time. When they can't (the customer needs something beyond what a CSR is able to do) then the manager ought attend the customer. Otherwise, there are little things like scheduling/ordering/payroll/shipping & recieving/et cetera which retail managers have to deal with on a daily basis. And those are best accomplished when the store has fewer customers on site.

Blarf. Nothing like pushing out more games that we don't really want right now. And if your GRs are anything like the ones around here, they don't really have a backroom to speak of. There's a managers office where they keep candy/popcorn/drinks/plastic bags/store files and movies which are waiting to be put on the shelves Tuesday Morning. And that's about it.

Yeah, I picked it up... Not sure when I'll play it, but it's there in my pile of unplayeds :D.

My EB is doing the FF XII midnight thing - just called to make sure they hold one for me for tomorrow. I could drive over there but I don't see the point of going 20 miles each way for that. I'll get it tomorrow.

This week will be an interesting one for GR - did they fix all the > 1 year FF XII preorders, or not? I think most CAG's have gotten it sorted out, but probably not most other people. For anyone that preordered it at GR and still has a good preorder, I would get it sooner rather than later as they might give them to people who had expired preorders and thus run short of copies.
 
anyone know if blockbuster is going to do another price drop on their existing games or should i just pick up the ones i want now?? :applause:
 
Damn, I just realized last night (when going through my preorder list) that I never got around to preordering Children of Mana at GR. That means they probably won't even get a copy (they got one Magical Starsign - my preorder). I guess I'll drop a preorder today just in case.

Edit - FWIW, GR had FF XII in today (Tues).
 
I can't remember, did we know that Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life was $10 new? I think we did, but it can't hurt to remind people.

I also confirmed that Battalion Wars is $10 new but Chibi Robo and Fire Emblem are still at $15 new.
 
There were a few new copies of battalion wars on the shelf tagged at 9.99 and they restocked the guitar hero (2 boxed w/ guitar). Anyone request their history and actually go through it. At my store there was a manager who got fired for 'moving inventory' using customer funds. Would be very important if you had ever had an abundance of credit on your account.
 
Finally got my Zelda preorder credited back to my account. Manager said he put $49.99 back on there, but I'll have to check on that to make sure next time I'm in... hopefully by the end of the week to pick up Children of Mana.
 
How long did it take for your account history to come back?

I sent off for my account history (Zelda here as well) over five weeks ago and still have heard nothing.

Of course the manager here first claimed that the account history comes to my address (even though right on the form it says it will be mailed to the store), but later changed her mind and said that they would get it after 8 weeks.

Is Harvest Moon for Gameboy or Gamecube? I get the various titles confused. Also, did you ever get ahold of the drop list from a week or two ago? I remember you mentioning you saw one.

Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is for Gamecube.

I haven't been able to get the price drop lists for a couple of weeks mainly due to me being busy. I was going to get one today, but they are really pushing the Blockbuster Online thing now and the guy that usually helps me out, was busy signing somebody up with the new laptop they have in the store.
 
Has anyone seen Contact this week at their GR? I've checked 3 different stores but no luck...looks like this one's a no-go...

Yeah, I'm thinking not. I had preordered it at EB and have been playing that copy. It is definitely worth the extra $5 (given that it is trade-in credit). Of course they keep telling me at my GR that it should be in any day now. But I'm also waiting on Disgaea 2, Tales of Legendia, and any number of other titles that are on order but have yet to arrive :D.

Hopefully they will get Children of Mana - I just preordered it yesterday but it looked like they had one copy on order already. So hopefully I'll get their one and only copy (as I did with Clubhouse Games and Magical Starsign).

Oh, and still no Chibi Robo DS or Phantom Hourglass available for preorder.
 
They actually pushed the release date for Contact to 10/27, so they had additional time to claim it wasn't in. I need to follow up on that one - whether that's contacting the DM to search for copies elsewhere, or just cancel it.

It's an Atlus game. They don't sell new Atlus games. I'm confused at why people are expecting them to get this one in. Did I miss something?

Oh yah, that whole returning Blockbuster Online movies to the store thing is supposed to start tomorrow, right? I have a movie I need to go put in the mailbox tonight. Maybe I'll hang onto it and see if my store is ready to scan them in or not. I need to go to Blockbuster tomorrow anyway to take back a rental and use my new coupon.

I wonder if this is something Blockbuster will do indefinitely or if it's something they're doing that's going to lose money, but they feel it's worth it to try to steal a bunch of business from Netflix? I'm already getting 4 in-store rentals and 12+ mail rentals a month from Blockbuster Online, so if I can take my 12 mail rentals to the store for 12 more in-store rentals, I'd really be a devil customer abusing the system...they'd make a lot less than $1 a rental from me.

I think most people figure if a store takes a pre-order for a game, that means they actually intend to order that game. For some reason that just isn't true with Blockbuster....they continually accept pre-orders for games thay have no intention of ordering.

Did I miss something?[/quote]I never expect them to get any game in. It's just a matter of how long I plan on waiting. Unless there's some bylaw in the GR handbook that says "We do not order Atlus games with the intent to distribute them to our stores" then it's just as likely they'll get it as any other game.

It's such a hassle to cancel a preorder at GR that either a sufficient amount of time has to pass, or I have to bug the hell out of them till they realize they aren't getting it.

They had it available for preorder, thus there was a possibility they would get it. They could always change this unwritten rule about Atlus games, after all :D. You'd think they wouldn't add them to the system if they never had any intention of ordering them, but they keep on doing it. I figured it was worth a shot as I would have saved $5 over EB.

I think the only reason they are in the system is because they accept them for trade and sell them used. GameRush has never carried an Atlus title new.
 
Got the call for Children of Mana today, as expected. I'll probably switch Contact over to FFV if they have any on order when I go.

OK, more point/counterpoint - they are there, sure, but also listed as new and they have some on order. Now, true enough, that could just be my local, clueless store, ordering them when they never had a chance to get them, but... Anyway, looks like they aren't getting it for sure. So there's $29.99 more of GR credit I now have. Hopefully they will have those GC component cables anyway.

Botticus - I was going to ask you about Children of Mana. Of course I got no call, I'll have to give them a ring and see if they ever got their one ordered copy :roll:.

Any joy on GRAW 360? With the universal price drop and EB having it around $35 used for a few weeks, I'd be loving another GR delight with their *good* $20 360 games.
 
Called my local GR to see if they will be doing a midnight sale for GoW and doesn't seem like it. They told me that they are expecting it Friday the 10th.
 
Bah... Went in to my GR tonight to pick up Children of Mana and they told me they "aren't allowed" to do preorders (for PS3 and Wii) and will call people on the call list when they know what their allocation is and then sell them "first come first serve". I need to talk to the game guy on Tuesday and see what's really going on. Does that mean first come first served Friday morning, or for a Thursday midnight launch, or some time the following week, or what? There is no way they are prepared for a huge line of campers, so you'd really think they would want to avoid all that - and the way to do that is to sell them to the people on the Call list, in order. Even though preorders aren't allowed you'd think they could take the initiative and sell them that way at least. My only slim hope is that the "first come first served" will be limited to those on the Call list. Though that isn't much hope as it was pretty huge (and I was 2nd :cry:).

I really wanted to use my GR credit on these things. Now I'll have to get the Wii at EB and use my scarce credit there, while being stuck with a ton of otherwise useless GR credit. They at least better get the games and accessories for the Wii.
 
Does anyone know if GameRush will get the NEW 360 accessories this week? Wireless Headset or REALLY hoping for the HD-DVD drive :)

Blockbuster just called me. They said they are doing a LOTTERY for the PS3. So, I have to pick up a ticket on Thursday the 16th, then I have to be there at MIDNIGHT to see if you won. I'm not sure how many people will be there, we'll see. Kinda sucks since I was #1 on the call list.

They have NO clue how many systems they will get.

Trade-in value for X-Men the Movie game for the X360 - $15.

Must resist temptation to "return" it to Walmart...

Also reserved the Gears of War CE. Didn't even think that they'd get the collector's edition. They're expecting it tomorrow or Wednesday, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get it Thursday.

They will also try to go with the call list for the systems, but they're not even sure how since they expect so many people to be there when they open. They said that they would receive more PS3's than originally expected, but they didn't give me any numbers otherwise.
 
i totally forgot about GR as an option for the ps3. I havent set foot in that store since the deals dried up earlier in the year. I will try to get on the call list and find out anything.
 
For those looking for 360 accessories, I haven't seen the HD but I did see a few headsets this evening. However I didn't pay particular attention to them. Is it a funky headset I'm not aware of?


And I have a question. Are we expecting any sort of buy so many get one free or percentage off of used (or new) games anytime between now and Christmas?

No, and I think the biggest surprise from GR (besides the lack of PS3/Wii preorders :bomb:) is the fact that we haven't had such a sale in ages. They used to run one or the other (B2G1 or 25% off) nearly continuously. I'm not sure what they are up to as it would really help them move their used stock.

I wish they would just limit the "LOTTERY" to people on the call list, but I would assume any joe off the street could get one. I wonder how many they will get. Someone report to see if they get the 3660 HD-DVD

I have you beat, but not by any store employee. While hitting some local EBs I heard a lady ask the fellas at the counter, "when is the W-I-I coming out and what does it do?"


pronounced... double ewe, eye, eye.
 
Just got off the phone from my GR where I was #2 on the list, and they told me its going to be sold on a first come, first serve basis. That is so annoying.
