Just looking for trade-in prices? Well, check out what's been reported:
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:
Hey guys, just a head's up. Went to my local Gamerush today (03/24/07), noticed they had put a ton of the NEW games they had for sale on a side counter. The manager told me they were being added to the 50% off sale. These were new additions to the previous sale. He let me look at the list he had for his store of the pulled games. PS2, XBOX, PSP, Gamecube, and 360 were on the list, the majority of the list (about half) was original XBOX, with about 20% PS2, rest a mix of 360, Gamecube, and PSP.

Can't recite the list verbatim, but you may want to check with your local game rush, I believe the actual list may vary from store to store, based what they have in inventory.

If you want, post what titles you are interested in and I will do my best to recall if it was included on the list, but I would suggest going to you local Gamerush and scout it out today!!
The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?
A: Probably.

(All prices are after the 50% off discount.)
As far as I was told, it is on new games only, and is 50% off the marked price. The list was also laying on the back counter and I perused it. The list of games are for the PS2, GameCube, Xbox, PSP, and Xbox360. There are no DS games.

I wrote down the Xbox360 games since I thought those would be the most interesting. There were not many PSP games and the ones on the list were not very exciting. So without further ado, the Entire Xbox360 50% Off GameRush Listing:

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.

Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Thank you kojubat for clarifying what EA means here. I hadn't had a chance to read this thread for a few hours.

Good luck to you nlyonssmith!

So how good is BlockBuster at getting in new games or game systems?

I'm thinking about saving up store credit for Halo 3, RockBand, and Assassin's Creed but will they have these for sale new on release day?

Also, I suppose I could buy a Wii if they come available and then flip it at cost to just turn that all into cash.
I have a non-CAG friend who I told about the EA flip deal at GR. His goal was to get a PS3. Within 3 days he's gotten very close to his goal. Needless to say, he's a CAG now!
Introduce us to your friend. We need to congratulate him on his excellent work. ;)
Is he also grabbing them at Best Buy? I'm assuming they're still $29.99 in their system and some stores have just physically marked them down to $9.99, right? I checked 2 stores near me last night and the 07's were still marked $29.99. If my stores are just lazy in updating the tags and the games will actually ring up at $9.99, I'll be heading back there tonight.
The stores which have marked them down to 9.99 are YMMV. I've only seen one Best Buy that had them clearanced out at 9.99.
So how good is BlockBuster at getting in new games or game systems?
I depends. I think they get the street dated titles in time for 'release day', but everything else comes in on Friday with their other shipments. It's just a guess, though.
I'm thinking about saving up store credit for Halo 3, RockBand, and Assassin's Creed but will they have these for sale new on release day?
Halo 3 should be fine. RockBand... not sure due to the nature of accessories at the chain. Assassin's Creed is possible, since it's been hyped enough to merit an on-time release.
Also, I suppose I could buy a Wii if they come available and then flip it at cost to just turn that all into cash.
That works, too, if you manage to find one.

Yeah, it appears new releases are arriving at a decent rate (for high profile games). I believe MY store had Tiger woods 08 on time....which is semi-mainstream....well, most EA Sports games are mainstream, but TW is not Madden.

I would love to find some $10 EA to swap.....that would be nice.
I would love to find some $10 EA to swap.....that would be nice.
If there was another title or 2 I could pick up with EA I would probably build the credit up. Its a pain spreading out a single title though to get credit built up. I know there has to be a few others out there. Anyone who is holding out come on help out some fellow cags.

Damn miss the good old days when a BB employee would bring us trade quotes every time he worked. I can't remember who it was, but getting a list of 50 new quotes a week really helped out...

Sorry for such a n00bish question but as I've never traded at GR before I got a real simple question: if you trade at multiple stores does your balance go on your account at just that store or on your "main" account? i.e. say you have $30 credit -- do you have to spend it at that store where you traded the game or can you use your credit at any BB/GR store? Thanks!

Thats a good question Penta, I don't know the answer.

I went in search of EA today. 0 copies at my local CC, Toys R Us, and Best Buy. I am going to try ordering online right now and calling to get the 2 for $30 deal. Lets see how this goes.

I believe it just goes on the balance at that store. However, all you have to do is have them put the credit on a gift card or value card, and then you can use that at any BB/GR.

I would suggest always having it put on a card so you can build it up and take it wherever you want. Over time you may find certain stores have better inventory and if its on a stores account you have to go back and get it on a card to move it.

Ok, wow.

I ordered online, 2 for $19.99. The deal 2 for $30 did not show up so I called the customer service. I had to explain the thing to two different people but in the end I received a $10 gift card. I unforunetly paid tax on that extra $10 so really it's a $9 gift card.

Oh well.

EA is due to arrive in a week, at which point I'll try flipping them to GameRush.

D'oh!

I went in to my local store today and they said they took all their Madden 08 copies (for the various systems) and converted them to rentals just a few days after they got them in for sale. These were the only new games they've had in nearly a year and hey claim they will not be getting any more new games. That is kind of frustrating because it would have been super-convenient (only 1/2 mile from my house). The next closest Blockbuster would have been the GR that shut down (about 8 miles). After that, there really aren't any close Blockbusters for me to go to, but I'll have to check out a few of the far-flung ones when I'm out and about just to see if they are carrying new games. I may need a backup plan in case Gamecrazy goes under.

Well, I ended up getting 10 copies of EA for about $130 (some BB, some CC) and traded them in for $330, which got me a 360 for an additional $20. Very nice deal.

Well played.:applause:

Very nice cheapassiness Maxfisher! That's the kind of method I used to get my 360 last year at launch. There were many more games at that time that you could use to your advantage thus making it a little bit easier to build credit.

nlyonssmith, I don't know how long it'll take before you get your EA's from CC. If it's after next Tuesday make sure you check the trade in value before you open the games(if u even do that, that is). Tuesday seems to be the day that values change. That way you can return the games to CC if you don't want to keep them.

I be confused. Isn't it a $20 game? How did you get them for $13 each, new (presumably, from BB or CC? I had heard some deal about a 2 for $30 thing somewhere but that still makes them $15 each.

I found a Best Buy that had a handful of copies clearanced out for $9.99. That's a big YMMV though. I tried 3 stores while I was out and only one had marked them down. The rest were from the 2/$30 deal at Circuit City.

Heh, at this rate, I have a feeling GR is going to do a fresh round of trade bans. I've had a hard time just trading in three copies since there are only two or three employees that ever work when I go to trade. Still need to find out if every store in my district is refusing the game now, or just the one GR.

Yeah a few of my local GRs have stopped taking EA a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, that is what I'm afraid of....it appears a few CAG's have flipped a few EA at my local GR, and I don't want to be stuck with a copy of EA. It's not a BIG deal though.

Do I need to open it before I give it to them? I figure if the trade value isn't so high anymore, I can just take them back to CircuitCity unopened and get a refund.
Yeah a few of my local GRs have stopped taking EA a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah, same here. All the GRs stopped taking them so I just went to local BB stores and traded them there about a month ago.

Yes....must be opened
Do I need to open it before I give it to them? I'm honest about it and even bring it in the bag from the store I bought it at. "What's the trade in value on this? I found it cheap and if it's worth it, I'll trade it in, if not, I'm going to return it."

Almost always some kid will tell me it's better to return it, without having scanned for the TiV. Once you actually get the Trade in Value, you decide for yourself if it's worth returning or trading in..

I usually just call and get the trade in value over the phone.

Success CAGs!

Bought 2x EA from Circuit City this morning for $30 + tax. Then, traded them in at the Game Rush in LaHabra, CA for $33 each.

Price Matched the game at BestBuy and bought 2 more. Tried to trade them in at the same store, but they said only 2 of one game per day.

Went to the Game Rush in Diamond Bar, CA. Traded both games in there for $33 each.

$65 Paid.
$132 in credit received.

mmmmm arbitrage...

EDIT: Oh, and I just went in with unopened games, checked the Trade in Value, then went ahead and traded them.

Now I *really* miss my GR. I pretty much had that place to myself in terms of trade-in exploitation. I also have several regular BB's nearby that no one else trades these types of games to. I'm still tempted to get in on the EA thing just in case I find a BB with new games.

But stupid CC says EA isn't available for store pickup so I can't check stock anywhere (and calling is more often futile than not). I'm still not sure if $15 -> $33 is worth the effort though :whistle2:k.

I'm all for bringing in sealed games if you can get away with it. But I have always opened them. I figured if nothing else bringing in sealed games (and especially sealed multiples) can only lead to investigation of that particular trade-in and possibly lead to a banning or at the very least a reduction in the value of said game (though BB doesn't seem on top of this kind of stuff any more). Maybe some of you weren't around during the mass banning of 2005 ;).

I wasn't around for the banning. Did they just ban people from being customers there because of too many trade-ins?

Too much use at one store will lift an eyebrow I'm sure. Thankfully there are a couple near by.

They banned people for a variety of reasons that was never consistent. It seemed to be at the district level and not corporate. One insider told us anyone in his district that accumulated $10,000 (over the course of a year or so) in trade-in credit was banned. They were banned from trading at the very least but it sounded like some even got their credit revoked, though I'm not sure how they could do that.

But there were other CAGs who reported being banned for much less than that, including some who claimed they never traded more than 1 of anything, so it was very YMMV.

It also seems much of it stemmed from the abuse of the trade 3 get any used game for $5 deal. It seems many people got these games and then promptly traded them back in for $30-$35 or whatever. It was a pretty stupid promo, though nice for customers I suppose. I never did the trade back in thing, but I did eBay a few ;).

I remember all of that. Seems like one kid was bragging on our very own CAG boards about starting with $100 or something and ending with $10,00+ in trade over the course of a couple of weeks. Traded 3 for $15 credit, then turned around and bought them right back for their shelf price ($1.99, etc), repeat. It caused a big dispute that you could probably find more of in the versus forum.

I agree with both CAG's above who just take in sealed games and are honest about what they're doing, as well as simply calling and asking nicely. I have done both and had similar experiences (right down to the guy telling me it would be cheaper to return them without actually looking up the prices).

Oh yeah, and on the banning, one guy said he was banned after buying 1 game, beating it, then selling it back 2 weeks later because he was done with it. Were that an isolated incident I would be more skeptical but as stated above, there was a lot of arbitrary banning going on out there. Seems to have died off. Still, to anybody reading this - don't be stupid. If you trade in more than 2 of the same game at a GR you are going to raise red flags. And if you raise red flags, whether they are "deserved" or not, the red flags are going to bring you more hassle than you want to deal with.

I managed to take advantage of the trade in deals and flip my way to about $6-700 of trade in credit. Most of that was used to purchase an Xbox 360 which was sold in order to buy another 360 which was in turned sold again to pay for my textbooks over two-four semesters.

I almost did get banned though. One employee at the GR I frequented the most gave me a rather nasty look every single time I went in there. Luckily, I had a friend who happened to work at the same location so it ended up as nothing more than a dirty look I guess.

You can't do that in my area, the local stores start yelling about how you're "TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM" if they find out that you buy games just to trade them.

i got banned at one store, but there are 9 stores close enough to me, so losing one wasn't that big a deal. i flipped my fair share, not an exorbitant amount, but a decent amount.

with flipping i was able to build enough credit to fully purchase an original Xbox, two GBA SPs, a DS (at launch), a PSP (at launch), hundreds of games, and finally (just the other day) put $410 toward a PS3.

i was really sad last january (2006) when all the sweet trade deals ended and never came back.

I went to another regular Blockbuster today and lo and behold, they have a new game display set up on an endcap. It is small, but pretty nice - has a Mario on top and various other characters down the sides in little circles including Yoshi, Luigi, Link, and some I couldn't identify. They had 1 copy each of Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8, Bioshock, The Darkness and one or two other games.

The bad news - the games were gutted with the cases on the floor and the games kept behind the counter. Booo!! I was considering splurging my BB credit on Bioshock but not if it's in that condition. I'm not 100% sure this is the case but I asked if they had more than 1 and she said only 1 but they don't keep the games out on the floor (for obvious reasons). Unless they got official game case copies to put out, then they gutted their 1 and only copy of each game.

I didn't have to time to make it to CC to look for EA. If I do manage to get there then it means $30 for $66 in BB credit, meaning Bioshock for about $27. I'm not sure I want that gutted copy even for that little though (I'm not so keen on the game that spending over $20 for it is pushing it for me as it is, and $27 AFTER the hassle of finding 2 EA's and trading them in at different stores just seems like too much work).

The way to make it the most profitable (with two extra stops added onto the process) would be to go to EB/GS & buy NBA Starting Five for PS2. Its only $1.99 ($1.79 after Edge) and FYE pays $15 credit for it, they also sell EA for $15 used ($13.50 with backstage pass) and have a B2G1Half sale. Basically it all ends up as paying less than $2 for each copy of Enchanted Arms. Then of course you can go and bring them to Blockbuster, meaning you've turned at $2 into $33 (per copy) in under an hour's work.

Always remember this my friend that you can only trade in 2 copies of any game per day at the same store but if you have several stores around you take the extra copies to another store.

Sounds like a nice thought but the closest FYE to me is almost 25 miles away and I don't think I want to take that chance.
Can BB track/see what you've been trading at other BB locations? Or is a separate log kept per location?
It is tracked per store. This is the reason why you have to sign a Trade Agreement with each store you trade games or movies into.
I usually just call and get the trade in value over the phone.
That works, too. =)
You can't do that in my area, the local stores start yelling about how you're "TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM" if they find out that you buy games just to trade them.
They have that right, but I'm shocked to hear it.

example: Stopping in my local EB the other day, I asked if they had any used EAs (ps3) in stock. When they looked and saw that they didn't I theorized out loud that they had already been bought up to flip at gamerush across the street. The manager and assistant manager asked how much they get for credit, and I told them $33. One was speechless for about 20 seconds while the manager laughed and asked, "you ever paid for a single game in your life? and its always legit, this kills me!"

He's the same one who asked when I picked up nba starting five why I was buying the game. He knows my taste and the games I play. Aside from NBA Jam on the snes, I haven't played an NBA title in aaaages. I joked at first saying it was an awesome game and I'd been looking for it for ages. Seeing that he believed me, I corrected the story to tell him that it trades in to FYE for around $13 plus (at the time) 45% credit.

But I flip games in there, also. Again, they always know it and I share the info of where to get what for how much. Everyone either ignores me or is too dang lazy to actually go through with it. *shrugs*

At a local GR it's pretty much the same deal. One of the managers even asks for good deals on games he's looking for.

AND you have to have an FYE near you which isn't getting rid of their game section.

Please add to the Wiki:
Resistance (PS3) $33 (ironically, exactly what I paid for it after previously trading:)
NCAA 07 (PS3) $33
Crackdown (360) $22
Midway Arcade Classics (xbox) $6.00 (!)
SSX 3 (xbox) $0.75 (well, I was never going to play it)

Also of note, the Burger King games don't show up in their system and are therefore untradeable.

(This is YMMV until we get verification from others)

Stopped by my local BB today (regular, no Gamerush). They do not have new games, but did get a few Maddens in. He mentioned the $10 off coupon that was emailed out for Madden. His said starting Tuesday, Halo 3 will be available for preorder... $10 off for preordering...no coupon.

Another bonus, for those that won "Extra" gamepacks from Tropicana..

Forza 2 gets $35
Fuzion Frenzy 2 gets $15

So essentially, you can swap those two in for Halo 3...

Somebody in the know, please verify...thanks

Just called my local GameRush (Sun.) was informed that EA is $33 but they also told me that I could only trade one copy in :(

This is a ridiculous deal if you think about it, I did some math and you could pick up a PS3 for ~285...

Here is how: Buy 15 copies of EA at Gamestop, use your discount card for 10% off bringing the total to around $285, go to GameRush and trade in all of your copies of EA and you've just paid for your PS3.

Was able to trade in EA for $33 at a more distant GR, so apparently it's not the whole district that is refusing to take it. $105 from 3 copies give me enough for two new games, woot.
